Have been 3x to Cafe Louis betw Sept 2024 - Dec 2025. The first visit was on Labor Day Monday 2024...it was uh-mazing! I thought it was the bomb, esp the food and service. Have returned twice since then. As the menu is small and hasn't changed since my first visit, the charm has worn off. I usually share the roast half chicken plus 2-3 sides. The meal was absolutely flavorful on my first visit but not so much the last visit in Dec 2025. Maybe it was a bad night? I thought the flavors fell flat and service was not as attentive. I was celebrating the holidays by treating friends to dinner and had to wave down someone twice to order rounds of drinks. I will give any establishment 20 stars if they are paying attention as to whether your glass is half empty. For me, the food can be excellent or blah but excellent service can make or break a restaurant. read more

First off the food was delicious. The question is what are you willing to ignore to enjoy it? Starting with cleanliness -- spider webs above our table and food stains on the walls. (See pics) Hospitality is completely absent. No one made eye contact for a prolonged period of time after we entered. Yes, it is a very small space, but there was one waiter and one bartender. Never received set ups. We rooted around in an exposed cabinet and snagged our own. And they don't carry any sodas whatsoever. So... enjoy the food but pack your patience and perhaps don't look too hard at the walls of the dining room. read more

One of the highlights of my short time in Camden. Being at the end of the summer season, finding availability for dinner was a challenge, but we were able to snag a late reservation on a Tuesday evening. The vibe was cozy, warm, and inviting, which was a far cry from most places we had visited which seemed a bit exhausted and ill prepared to deal with lingering fall tourists. The food was phenomenal with complex and interesting flavors. The calamari was crispy and the chilis and sauce were the perfect complement. The chicken was also perfectly cooked and seasoned. But by far the best dish was the mussels. The broth with the soft chunks of sweet potato and bread to soak everything up was perfection. Cocktails were also unique and tasty. 3 alcoholic drinks, one small plate and 2 entrees was $100, which was well worth the price for the quality of the food and atmosphere. read more

The Achiote Chicken is literally the best chicken ever! Chef's kiss. Literally the best chicken we have ever eaten. The combination of flavors is just stunning. The Maine Halibut was also superb. The quaint house this restaurant is in just adds to the awesome atmosphere. The service was also great. One thing to note: you cannot enter through the front doors. You have to walk around to the left of the house (follow the signs) to the back and enter into the door in the back. We will definitely be back! read more

Super chill, delicious, reasonably priced. We showed up at 7:30 on a Friday and there were plenty of seats both inside and outside - which really shouldn't be, given how great this place is! Highlights were the burger (we agreed it's the second best in the world, after Sammy's Deluxe), fish tacos (perhaps the very best), plantains, and rice and beans (really!). Server was new, but friendly and attentive, and the rum cocktail with leche de Tigre amazing, if a bit spicy for the person who ordered it (the better for the rest of us!). And the hibiscus limeade was extra extremely extravagantly extraordinary too according to the person who ordered it. read more

This might be the best restaurant in New England. Everything is perfectly crafted, incredibly original, and most importantly delicious. The staff is friendly and forgiving of our over-tired dogs. The patio is beautiful and we wish we could have stayed all night by the fire with their unique cocktails. 11/10 experience and worth the 3 hour drive to Camden. We're shocked this place wasn't completely slammed in a Saturday night. Definitely come with a group and try everything! read more

We were so happy to stumble upon this small, unpretentious place just off the main downtown street in Camden. The website and Google info are kinda messed up -- it shows up as Costa Media though it's apparently (also?) called Cafe Louis -- so it's confusing. But the food is delicious and really innovative -- eggplant Milanese: lightly fried and wrapped in delicate strips of cucumber; delectable "pinchos" of the most tender and flavorful carne asada I've had; seasonal salads of tomatoes and baby gem lettuce with tastiness like "toasted macadamia nut vinaigrette" and "caramelizad fennel salsa" and cacao nibs ... wow. We even asked for bread, so we wouldn't miss a drop of the different sauces and toppings. Seriously good. Same goes for the cocktail menu (margarita with Underberg?!!) and simple wine list. Just super creative and delicious. Unfortunately we didn't like the flan, one of two desserts offered. It was really dense, like cheesecake (which seemed by design) with a weird crumble. Maybe personal preference, but it was the only low point of the evening. Still, our overall impression was that this is a restaurant that understands flavor and is not afraid to mix things up. One of the best restaurants I have been to in recent memory. Delightfully unpretentious, Thoughtful, and . We came here with my parents as our final meal in town, completely unsure if we would be able to find something good to eat here or not, but the reviews offered some promise of a good meal. Wow, we were shocked. We got the Pinchos, salchipapas, and the salad out first to see what kind of restaurant we were dealing with here. Every single item we got was made with thoughtfulness, creativity, and a focus on big flavors. The salchipapas were perfectly rich and indulgent, the salad was surprisingly substantial and with house made dressing I loved, and the Pinchos steak skewers were bright, hot, and delightfully spiced We were genuinely shocked by how good the first round of appetizers were, and opted to get two more share plates: the smoked chicken and the Skate Milanese. The smoked chicken stole the show; a blackened exterior contrasted night a bright orange sauce on the plate, flanked by a Honduran crema. The chicken was profoundly flavorful and tender, the sauce perfectly balanced between bright and rich. The skate portion was impressively generous and perfectly fried. It was balanced by a jalapeño crema and some fresh microgreens. We couldn't get enough. We finished off with some tres leches doughnuts which were made to order and, you guessed it, divine. A delicately fried hush puppy doughnut hybrid soaking in a sweetened milk that soaked into the doughnuts just a little to make a tres leches you've never experienced before. The cocktail I got was called the Cabeza verde or something like that, a mezcal based drink with house made pepita orgeat, served with a cocktail rock in a lowball glass. Legitimately incredible. I would be remiss if I didn't mention our lovely waitress, who was so delightful, unpretentious, and helpful. She had only been there a month, but had a comprehensive knowledge of the ever-changing menu and was genuinely helpful in explaining what dishes she thought we'd like best. 10/10 perfect service. We were so taken aback by the quality, thoughtfulness, and immense effort put into each dish. If this place were in any major city, it would be booked out for months. read more

Cabbage salad was topped with black rice you couldn't chew. Told the waitress, she took it away and still charged us. Burger had good flavor but no fries at Happy Hour. Wanted dessert but we couldn't get it at Happy Hour. Waitress couldn't care if we were happy. Wouldn't go back. Very disappointed :-( read more

Our lovely waitress, Isadora, was great! We order four small plates to share with one non- alcoholic bev for a bill total of $61. For me the food was delicious, for Matt it was a little too sophisticated and the operative word was "small" on the small plates. He ate the scallop ceviche without realizing that the thin wedges here and there were scallops - LOL. The steak skewers is two small skewers - but they were so yummy! So, definitely more of a me place than a him place. We did not order any of the larger plates, which probably would have provided him with a bigger dose of protein. I let him eat more of the delicious double-fried plantain, which he really liked. Very cute location in a converted house - cozy. read more

I ate there last night for the second time in one month. The service is great. The first time I had the hamburger, absolutely delightful, the next time I got the buffalo chicken wings for an appetizer, a huge mistake, the meat was as dried out as shoe leather left in the desert sun. My friend got the chicken dish, again same dried-out disappointment. The had a flan/cake dessert was horrible. The hamburger again was superb and the steak appetizer was nice. They may be trying too hard. How about making a traditional flan skipping the sprinkles and over-the-top sweetener. read more

My husband and I went here after facing an hour + wait at a place down the street, saw the great reviews and figured we'd give it a shot. We were so glad we ate here. The bartender was incredibly knowledgeable about not only the drinks but how all the food was prepared. We ordered shishito peppers for an app, then split the eggplant and the burger for mains. Every last bite was amazing. Every review is spot on. Don't be deterred by some of the food descriptions. This place offer innovative takes on common fare and it's delicious. We were headed to another restaurant that we discovered was closed so on a whim thought we would try Cafe Louis based on Yelp reviews. When we arrived the waiter was very kind and brought us menus. Looking at them we wondered where were we? Speaking with the waiter he made suggestions so we went with it. The food was absolutely amazing and nothing we had tried before. He described it as Costa Rican style. We will definitely go back when in Camden. read more

Our first visit to Cafe Louie we had a chance to meet the owner and chef. What a delightful person with roots in south American as I am from Colombia. Our summer home is in Camden and we have enjoyed our first meal at Cafe Louie. You have to get their early to get seating since seating is a little limited. We give it 5 stars and we will be there again soon!! read more
