I've been here twice now as the first stop from Aurora to Galena. The breakfast is high quality classics. Staff is super friendly and attentive. Good prices. Love the coffee. read more

Perfect. I was looking for a ham biscuit for breakfast to-go, on my way to Quad Cities. Found Butterfly. Stopped. Greeted by a friendly, efficient server. A clean and 'just right' looking breakfast place. My request was not really a menu item, but was made very quickly and it was delicious. The biscuits warm and flavorful with multiple slices of 'almost country ham' very tasty. [BTW, the skillets looked really good as a cadre of regulars were seated nearby while I waited]. I would not hesitate to return if I'm in the area again. read more

We were in Rochelle Saturday morning and wanted not-fast-food breakfast. The Butterfly Restaurant was great. The lot was very full when we pulled in and I was afraid there would be a wait for a table, but we didn't have to wait. DH was hungry and ordered the platter with 3 eggs, 3 sausage patties, hash browns, and 3 pancakes. Wow. Everything was very good -- and I got to share the pancakes because that is a lot of food! I ordered Eggs Benedict and it was perfect. They were generous with the hollandaise sauce which suits me just fine. The American fries were delicious -- a very generous serving! My only complaint is their iced tea is either instant or made from concentrate. I should have gotten coffee. We'll go back the next time we're in town. read more

Great food! Great service! So glad we found this along the way and decided to try it out! Nice size portions of food. Nice experience. We would go back again. read more

I love this place only down fall is the location is small and fills up fast, but they are very skilled in rotation of the tables and never lack in the customer service!,all the classic favorites and the portions are a great size!!! We love this place and would and always recommend it to anyone passing through Rochelle read more

Good food. Reasonable prices. Had the monte Cristo. It was great. Real turkey not deli meat.

We have been here to eat several times. The last time we went I was extremely disappointed. We had ordered a gyro Sandwich and a cup of soup and also four other entrees. When it came time to pay the bill they charged us I believe $3 or so for sharing a meal. I don't understand how you get charged for sharing a meal when they have one gyro on one plate and one small cup of soup. read more

Food wasn't bad. Service wasn't good. The server comes up and asks, "are you ready to order?". Didn't offer a drink and never checked back on the food after it came out. Only to drop the check and the box. I was however pleasantly surprised that the bathroom was as clean and updated and it was. read more

On the road breakfast is the number one meal for me. Wherever I go finding a great local breakfast joint is of paramount importance. I can do breakfast at any hour of the day or night. Rochelle is small town yet a very traveled town out in the parts of central Ill. In a town full of traveling truckers and hard working farmers there is always a local gathering spot to start your day. It's these kind of places that you get the nitty gritty, the local news, and real flavor or a town. Like most places I stumbled upon Butterfly restaurant while on the scout for good filming locations. The job gives me the opportunity to look into places that if you're not a local you might pass by. When walked though the door a bell rang the kind that announces a new customer has entered. A few folks turned and looked and threw up a kindly wave even though They didn't know me from Adam you couldn't tell by the welcome. At the counter a man chatted up with the counter girl about his farm and the seasons crop as she offered to pick up any shifts he might have available for extra money. This small town America. The service was prompt and friendly as a young girl sat me at a booth and left me with a menu. The offerings were various and all seemed good choices but I came for breakfast and in the menu it said 'Breakfast served all day". Words that are music to my ears. The coffee was strong, like farmer strong and tasted like good coffee should. I ordered the Country Breakfast made up of two eggs over easy, (I always add an egg for three), home fries, which is nice chunks of potatoes with green pepper and onion, as opposed to hash brown strings, and covered in sausage gravy homemade sausage patties and rye toast. Sounds simple right? Well, you'd be surprised at how many places can screw up a good breakfast. Thankfully, Butterfly is not one of those places. It was a hearty plate, with excellent cooked eggs and the home fries covered in sausage gravy were excellent. I judge a country breakfast by its sausage gravy and theirs is right on point. The sausage patties are homemade on their line and likely made from fresh pork. It's in the taste. The patties were cooked well and crispy on the outside while tender on the inside. Even the rye toast had a good amount of caraway seeds with that warm, sweet, peppery taste they offer. I am not sure but I would not be surprised if the rye toast is locally made. This was no small breakfast and it was excellent and just what I was on the hunt for. I returned for breakfast several times during my month long stay. I will be back to try their dinners which I am certain and just as awesome. The service is super friendly and the restrooms are really clean and well taken care of. Even the napkins are quality which is a huge indicator for me of the care with which they order supplies. It's no wonder the Butterfly Restaurant is a local meeting place. read more

Food is great so is the service. They have a lot to choose from on their menu. The restaurant is clean and they are always nice.

Traveling through and car upon place by accident. Impeccable friendly service. Food was phenomenal. And homemade and made to order. Serving sizes are huge. My husband had an omelette and I had a burger. We both had hash hash-browns and were hand shredded and awesome. read more

We were in Rochelle visiting, so we stopped by. The food was delicious, I had the senior special (baked cod) , which included soup, salad, potatoes and a vegetable. Our server was very nice and saw that we were well taken care of. As a popular diner, the tables were clean and our meals were served hot, so I was very pleased overall. read more

This place has some of the tastiest meals! We walked in and due to some server errors we waited quite a while to get served. I went to the host and asked him to please inform our server that we were waiting. She showed up and apologized and from that point everything improved. The drinks were promptly served and our meals came out quickly. The food was well prepared and there was a lot of it! Whoever was cooking in the back had their A-game going. I definitely will return. And you should definitely give them a chance. read more

The food service and atmosphere were all very good for a small town restaurant. It was very much what was to be expected. It was clean and efficient and very friendly staff good food and plenty of it. read more

Ate here while passing through. The food was typical quality for a decent diner, and it was very reasonably priced. My daughter and I were able to share a meal and both went away full. We took the last table and were still served quickly. It shares the look and feel of a local diner...carpet could be cleaner and decor updated, but it kind of adds to the charm. The menu was huge, offering a variety of options, including all day breakfast. read more

Excellent restaurant. Salad bar was outstanding and what a menu. They have a little bit of everything. All meals come with soup, salad bar and dessert. Prices are very reasonable. What an great little gem. Glad I choose to stop. Spotless and service is some of the best. read more

Butterfly Restaurant - Excellent Salad bar - Diners Near Me - Rochelle, Illinois

This was a fantastic little restaurant to stop at on our trip home from Wisconsin Dells. It was only a couple of miles off the Interstate and very easy to find. The pictures on line showed a salad bar as one of the draws, which it doesn't actually have. While we were initially disappointed about that the food and service were so excellent that we didn't miss it at all! It was very family friendly and with a comfortable atmosphere. You can't beat the pricing for the size of the potions either. We were able to feed 4 teen/preteens and two adults for under $75.00 and all left stuffed! I would highly recommend this place if you are looking for a good place to stop for lunch off 39. read more

Today is Sunday and they are indeed open, unlike what this website states. Suggest you call if you are going to head to the restaurant.

We stopped here for lunch one day and the service and food were great! It has a great, hometown feel.

Great food, great service, and a great staff!! You won't be disappointed. Breakfast is served anytime.

A nice, sit down restaurant. The owner is very much involved with the goings-on. Family oriented, diner setting. Would definitely frequent more than once. Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner Menu available. read more

Very good service, delicious food and great oldies aesthetic. Welcoming vibe. Highly recommend eating here if you're new In town.

Waited 25 mins for a server. After benign seated Asked for chicken and rice soup. Was told there was no chicken and rice soup. Watched other before and after me receive chicken and rice soup. Asked for dinner rolls and butter multiple times and received them after dessert but watched other tables receive it timely with their soup. French onion soup was missing the cheese. After 2 years stopped by took over 20 minutes Before a different waitress decided to help me & take my order I ordered roast turkey full order not the one on sale; which the waitress & I discussed When she brought my order looked like a kiddy order she saw same thing as me she did correct it ; but what i saw is the chef on his phone a lot! Not paying attention to the ticket order; while 2 years was not long enough this place still has its problems read more

I love this restaurant! I have never had a menu item that I didn't like. The staff is so friendly and helpful. Come to think of it they always get the order perfectly and the food is always delicious. I first visited here in 2004. And when I moved here in 2017 I became a frequent customer. I moved back to San Diego for a while and told everyone about the Butterfly Restaurant. I moved back after yet another heartbreak from trying again with my boyfriend. First place I stopped was the Butterly. I even like to come here for special occasions. I live in Mt Morris but I would move to Rochelle because of this place! read more

Not too bad of a place to eat, it is your typical all-in-one restaurant. They have Greek, American, Polish cuisines. I choose the traditional patty melt sandwich. Not too bad - the bread was nicely toasted and diced onion oozing out as expected, tasty but not exceptional. Parking was plentiful and pretty crowded during the lunch hours. I would come back because the prices were reasonable for the location that I was in. read more

Excellent down home dining. Just plain love it. Excellent food, clean & pleasant decor, ample parking, waitress pleasant-friendly-efficient. I will return here as often as I can. Highly recommend read more

Love the home cooked food. Never fails. The service is great. The restaurant just needs a little updating and cleaning

Great find! Had an awesome breakfast, while my guy had a philly cheese sandwich. Which was just as great. Highly recommend!! Will be back again! read more

Typical small town diner-fare. Not bad, but not great. Breakfast is probably their strong suit. Try the 2-2-2. Two eggs your way, your choice of either two pieces of french toast or two pancakes, and your choice of either two pieces of bacon or sausage. It's a really good value and very filling. If you're there for lunch or dinner, you probably can't go wrong with their chicken noodle soup, which is consistently delicious, and/or the salad bar. read more

We stopped here after church on Saturday. We read the reviews and gave it a shot on the word of a fellow pastor. People who expect five star restaurants in small towns need a dose of reality. The food was good. My wife had an open face sandwich. I had the Julienne Salad. We shared coconut cream pie and drank water. The waitress was more than pleasant. Our bill was less than $21. If you want a good meal at a great price in a small town, eat here. read more

Went for a late breakfast on a Friday. The restaurant was clean and seemed well staffed for the amount of customers. Ordered the biscuits and gravy special. The gravy was different from what I make but tasty. My scrambled eggs were not dry/over cooked. Food came fast and was warm so it hadn't been sitting under a heat lamp. My only complaint would be I'm not used to asking for a refill on my coffee. That being said I think that was an issue with my waitress not all of them. Overall I would definitely be back for breakfast and would like to try lunch. read more

The soup was okay, but the ubiquitous brown gravy was not! Homemade has to mean "cans opened by hand"! Even the bacon had no flavor. On the bright side, the server was great and the prices were very reasonable. read more

The usual serve everything diner. A bit bland. Breakfast is a good value. Service is diner efficient. Corned beef hash is not from a can and they accommodate changes and special requests as best as they can. Coffee is nothing special but not bad. It's hard to mess up breakfast. Nothing on the menu will make you go out of your way to go here but you shouldn't avoid it if you are hungry for breakfast food. Better than a dennys or Waffle House for sure. The mediocrity and lack of enthusiasm of this review sums it up. Not bad. Not special either. read more

Yelpers steered me wrong on this one. Homemade cooking? If your mother reheated frozen dinners for you, maybe. Here's the details on why this isn't nowhere close to a 5 star rating... 1. Walked in and we were by far the youngest people in the place, and I'm 45... 2. The menu had about 30 entree choices, or 20 too many. 3. A lot of it was seafood. It's Illinois, folks. 4. The rolls came in a basket and each one was individually wrapped. I'm guessing that is so they know which one has been touched so they don't reserve it to the next customer. Gross and weird on every level. 5. Daughter's hamburger had no blood in it, and quite obvious it was not only prepackaged but precooked. Just heat and serve. 6. Wife's "homemade" meatloaf was sliced in perfect circles, as if shaped in a can. It didn't taste good, but it looked worse. 7. Everything came with the same brown gravy. So why more than a 1? 1. The prices were very low, but you get what you pay for. 2. You get more food than should be allowed. Meals come with soup, salad, and dessert! 3. The salad bar was the best part of the meal. But it's still not half as good as a Ruby Tuesday salad bar, so don't get your hopes up. 4. Service was friendly, but for some reason the waitress felt comfortable enough to eat off another diner's plate. From my eavesdropping, I think her friend was babysitting the waitress' kid and brought in him to eat. I felt bad for her so still tipped her 20%. I wanted to give a local place a try, but I would have been happier at McDonalds. read more

After my morning cup of wake up at the hotel, we met our friends here for breakfast. Typical breakfast place? Maybe. Outstanding service? Definitely!!! Low prices? Most assuredly!!! The coffee was fresh, the waitress was friendly, the food was fast and delicious. The first day I had the french toast, and the second day I had Butterfly's Favorite Swedish Pancakes, which were crepes filled with strawberries and bananas. Yum! The prices were well below what I was expecting, and like I said, the food was twice as good! I'll be back for breakfast the next time I'm rollin' through town! read more
