A friend of mine and myself met at The Flight Deck for dinner last night. We had been looking for someplace to meet between our two homes and he suggested the Flight Deck. I was skeptical because it's in the Rochelle Airport. I'm glad we decided to try it out. We went on a Wednesday night, and it wasn't very busy. There was a large group there, but plenty of tables available. The tables/booths do need so updating as they are starting to show the signs of age. Open ceiling, standard bar décor, patio area, view of the runway... This is a standard bar and grill. Nothing fancy. As for the food. I ordered the mozzarella sticks and the Black N Blue Brisket Burger. The cheese sticks were of decent size, had an okay flavor. I feel they were a little over cooked, but they were still good. The burger was above average. Definitely better than anything you get at a fast food restaurant and the fries were also above average. Over all the food isn't anything wowing, but it's good and I did enjoy my meal. Now here's the selling points: !) for all of my Gluten Free peeps out there. They can replace the bread on any sandwich with a gluten free wrap for a $3 upcharge. 2) Everyone one of their signature drinks can be made alcohol free, thus turning them into Mocktails. I ordered a blackberry hibiscus mule mocktail and my friend got the same with alcohol. We both thought they were delicious. Our service was good. The waitress was friendly and attentive. 3rd time is the charm right? WRONG! 3rd time we gave this place a chance it failed completely. Waited to be seated. Not busy at all! Booths, tables and floors we're filthy. Ketchup bottles left open and thrown around a few tables as you walked in. We sat down, waited for at least 10 minutes, no one asked us a thing. Again, NOT BUSY AT ALL! Another table was seated way after us and they got a server before we did. Staff talked among themselves in the kitchen. Kitchen itself was also filthy and looked very disorganized. Do better! Super unique atmosphere and food and service were both good. Is it the best of the best in terms of quality of food? No, but it's decent and it's what I'd expect of a rural bar and grill. Flight Deck makes for a fun meal that I would make a special trip to get to. The restaurant shares a building with a sky diving school and has a patio area where if you can get a table there it's a great place to watch the sky divers. We were fortunate enough to be there for lunch on a Sunday and got a table on the patio. There was no shortage of sky diving action to watch and the food was delicious. I had their version of a Big Mac type burger. My only complaint about the burger was that the bottom bun was steaming hot making picking up the burger difficult. I ended up eating it with a fork and knife. The service was friendly but at times slow which was okay because we had wonderful weather and a lot to watch. If you're nearby or need a day trip destination put this restaurant on your list! read more

Two more additions: We went to The Flight Deck for dinner the other day. We ordered a Raspberry Whiskey Mule, which was actually very good. Not too sweet, you could taste the raspberries, and several were included on top of the ice. It was surprisingly refreshing. I ordered the Jack Melt, which was a burger on sour dough bread, while my wife had their Korean Shrimp. The burger was cooked to order, and tasted good. The fries were hot, crisp and fresh - very good. My wife enjoyed her shrimp - it was spicy without being too spicey. We wrapped things up with a piece of cheesekake (how they spelled it), which was plated with chocolate and raspberry and very enjoyable. Now shift to Sunday - we hadn't tried this place for breakfast, so we decided, let's give it a go. I had their orange juice, which tasted a little off, and my wife had their coffee, which was good. She had their Greek Scrambler, which was feta cheese on top of an omelet. I went with their Chicken and Waffle Sandwich. Let's talk about that for a moment. The waffles had the top one dusted with powdered sugar. The chicken patty was nicely sized, but the breading was not what you'd expect for fried chicken. It was kind of like shake and bake breading - not that it is the end of the world - just not what I was expecting. Taste wise, it was unique and interesting. The chicken was chicken, and the waffles were waffly with powdered sugar mixed in. I did get syrup, but then didn't use it. read more

Not knowing what to expect, we were pleasantly surprised by this offbeat and refreshingly different restaurant. Exceptionally casual atmosphere with a view of the municipal airport Airfield. A nice selection of craft brews, full bar, and daily specials are available in addition to their nice selection of food standards. Our server was wonderful, attentive, and offered some nice recommendations. The salads were large and very fresh. Burgers met everyone's expectations and we even checked out a local favorite of some fried cheese curds which you simply must have once in a while! Been there a couple times around 2 years ago and not much has improved. Had their brisket quesadilla and it was horrible. The meat was old and oily and cheese was melted off in fryer. Will never go back. Which is a shame because Rochelle needs and wants a good place to eat and drink. read more

We went a little earlier in the evening so it was pretty calm in there when we got there but it was picking up the longer we were there. Our server was outstanding, stqyed right on it and we wanted for nothing. There is a large convenient parking lot and as long as someone is there to help with the door it is handicap accessible. The seating is varied from bar seating to booths. The restaurant was very clean and easy to navigate even with a cane, walker, or wheelchair. There were people of all ages dining there today and everyone appeared to be having a great time. In the warmer months, you are liable to see plqnes and skydivers coming and going as it is right on an airstrip. The food is unique and varied, however everything we have ever had in there has been very good. They do change up the menu from time to time so be prepared to order something new, but who knows it might become your new favorite. The bar offers unique mixed drinks that appear to change with the season also. All the beverages we have had have been really good. read more

There is actually a sign that warns you that your wait time may be long. They say it's because they're busy and the food is made to order. But I don't see them very busy and the staff is very slow to respond. The hostess chatted away with a customer while I stood there waiting for a seat. Plenty of tables open and she wasn't seating anyone else. The tables I. The patio had most tables open. I was seated and told the waitress from that patio would help me. She left without even asking if I wanted a drink. Once she came back she took my drink order and my food order. It came out promptly, I'm not surprised, it wasn't busy. The chipotle chicken wrap was ok. That's about all I can say about it. The fries were hot and perfectly salted. The restaurant has a cool outdoor scene. I will try these guys again. Wings Not sure why but this place reminds me of a TV show from the 80's or 90's called Wings. This restaurant is at the airport in Rochelle..... I had no idea there was an airport in Rochelle. Where's Rochelle???? Anyway. It is really just a bar and grill. The website menu makes you think it's more of a restaurant, it's basically bar food. It's a little different in the fact that you can see small airplanes taking off and landing. I was told if you go on a really nice day you might see people parachuting as they do that at this airport. So, this would be a cool place to parachute and then have lunch. read more

We came here to try out the food before booking a restaurant for our rehearsal dinner. Ultimately we decided not to, because they do club volleyball on the night we needed. But, we were pretty on the fence regardless. Inside is pretty dingy and run-down. I get it's a bar/restaurant in the middle of nowhere, but from the second I walked in, the energy was off. Pretzel bites were obviously sitting out for hours. My fiancé ordered some sort of pulled pork burger. The pork was pretty dry. I ordered the veggie wrap and was actually pretty pleased with it. However, the amount of hummus used was WAY too much and overpowering. I wouldn't come here again, but if you live in the area, it's one of the only options. read more

I've never been here before and my friends rave how good the food is. Why not? I'm always up to trying new things. The restaurant also houses a skydiving place right next to it. With an outside patio, you can enjoy watching skydivers while having some grub. I was not expecting to see a skydiving place right next to a bar and grill. Clientele ranges from all ages, and they told us masks were not required to walk in. Staff weren't wearing masks either. Though, I still wore mine. The food menu is eclectic, ranging from burgers, wings, curry chicken, and even a tuna poke bowl. I ordered the traditional chicken wings with Cajun dry rub with a side of fries. You can either get 8 traditional wings or 12 boneless. Now, I like spicy food and this Cajun rub did not pack any heat whatsoever. The wings and leg were on the tinier side but it didn't bother me. The wings were alright. The fries though, were light and crisp, really delicious!! Maybe I'll try their boneless wings and see if they are any better. What a pleasant surprise! Driving back from quad cities on a perfect Saturday afternoon we made a stop to watch sky divers. Decided to go in for a drink. The place was pretty full -- lots of skydivers, gorgeous weather. We ended up ordering at bar where they let you take drinks out in plastic cups to picnic tables to watch skydivers land close up. Although there was only one bartender for table service and bar/walk ups, waits were minimal (maybe 4-5 min was the worst) and drinks were great. I had the vodka drink of the day (delish lemonade-y type thing perfect for the afternoon. They keep it on tap and have a new one each day. Fun.). Not much of a selection of beer on tap but what they had was good (a decent IPA on top of the goose island-type standards). So don't go if you are looking for the craft brew flight type experience--but the one IPA they had was perfect temp and tapped well. Ended up also ordering an app which was outstanding (ordered in "to go" again to sit at picnic table.). Outstanding. Came out quick and hot and they brought it out to us (which was another nice surprise...I had planned on going back in to grab it. I think it might have actually been one of the owners helping running food???). The Reuben tots were soooo good. And huge portion! Would have been fine for 4 people. Next time we will order a full meal -- they have good outdoor seating for normal table service in addition to indoor. (This also might be a fun birthday venue...). So fun to chat with first time skydivers -- everyone friendly. A few friendly dogs too. After a bit of liquid courage we started talking about doing a family skydive! (We have since changed our mind lol but my kids want to go.) I saw Casey's review and what a bummer. I'm sure that was frustrating but maybe try again? We went on a crowded afternoon and service was great, food was hot, drinks were cold. (I promise that I will update review if service worsens in our next trip...). Shout out to the hostess--was a sweet teenager who was super nice and informed -- you could tell she really wanted to make our experience fun--not your typical ding-batty teenaged hostess... All in all great experience, particularly because it was such an unexpected gem. We have been gushing about it to everyone we've talked to since then. If they consistently deliver what they were doing on the afternoon of Saturday July 30th we'll keep coming back. And we live a little more than an hour away! read more

DO NOT pass this place up if you're in the area. And if not in the area, go out of your way to find it! Great food (we had fried pickles, cheese burger, Greek salad), large portions, super friendly staff, airplanes everywhere....and who doesn't love sitting near a runway, enjoying an Adult beverage, watching people fall out of the sky? I went here with my family and we didn't have the best experience. The restaurant it's self is really nice, cozy chairs, televisions, and the entertainment with the volley ball players and watching sky divers is fun. The service here was slow. We ordered one last thing with our check and it took too long for what it was. The food was under whelming and nothing special. My mom got steak that was far from stellar. The margaritas were bad. My sister got told to get water outside from a jug instead of getting it at the bar. All in all this place is only worth it for the sky diving. If that's all you need this place will suffice but there are far better places to eat. read more

My wife and I flew in for dinner and had a terrific time. The food, atmosphere, and service all exceeded our expectations. The Texas Smash hamburger was enormous and delicious, as was the Canopy Wrap. The sweet potato waffle fries were great too. We will definitely be back with friends. read more

Been here 2 times now, a bit in the middle of no where at the Rochelle Airport but worth a stop if in the area or nearby. A bit unique as it shares a building with a Skydiving place at the end of the airport runway. This makes for some interesting scenery watching the skydivers prep, take off and float down outside the big window at the end of the restaurant. On to the food, the menu has a pretty good selection of varied food to choose from so should be something for almost everyone. For an appetizer we had chips and salsa and cheese curds. Plenty of chip and good salsa for about $5 if I remember correctly. My daughter liked the cheese curds and I thought they were good as well. I had the Poke Bowl which was a good portion and well presented as served. It was tasty and I probably could have taken home half of it for leftovers after the appetizers. This time and last the service was slightly slow, not terrible, maybe average and better after we were initially greeted. I would go back and take others with me. read more

Great place to grab lunch and a beer. Had a group of 18 after a funeral service and the Flight Deck was incredibly accommodating. Not only did we all get the correct food (which in a huge group NEVER happens) the service was fast and friendly. All the food was better than the average bar food, and came out to our table quickly. Next time I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere Illinois, I will absolutely go back here! read more

Wow! Things have changed big time since we were last there in 2019. The night started with a server who seemed to get lost every time she left our table. We had to flag down a different server to get our server three different times. It took 53 minutes after we ordered to finally get our food (sandwiches and sides) and when we finally bit into them, they were cold. The heel of my bun was so soggy that it literally fell apart in my hand. The fries were also cold. We showed our server how my sandwich fell apart and she just kind of shrugged her shoulders and got lost once again. The food and service used to be SO good here but we won't be back. read more

Used to love flying here in our plane when it was under previous ownership. When the new owners took over, prices shot up, menu got smaller, specials went away and service slipped. The last couple times it was pretty dead overall and the prices are just high enough that it has to be a special occasion before we will think about coming back. Sometimes too much change is not a good thing. There are other places to fly to for the proverbial $100 hamburger, so it's no big deal, but Flight Deck is no longer part of our regular rotation of places to go. read more

The food was a little less than mediocre, and service was subpar, the patio was nice. Our appetizers were the best part of the meal. Pickels and curds were both excellent. I ordered one of the burgers; I was shocked it appeared to be a frozen premade burger! Even with the horseradish sauce, the burger lacked flavor, and everything seemed lacking in salt. My son got a cheeseburger on the kids' menu, and it appeared to be a fresh pattie grilled nicely. Why use fresh meat for the kids' menu and not the adult menu? Our service lacked a lot! First, we waited at the hostess stand for a couple of minutes; finally, someone came to wait on us and told us we could go out to the patio and take the table on the right. They Didn't seat us, just told us where to go. After sitting there for a couple of minutes without service, a waitress came and very directly said, "did you seat yourself?" We told her we were told to sit there; she was not friendly and said, "this table is reserved for a group with dogs" after moving tables and umbrellas, we finally were seated. My wife and I never received a refill on our drinks. Although the food and service were not great, our kids loved watching the planes and parachutes. We enjoyed the patio and the show. It is too bad they don't take more pride in their restaurant this could be such a fantastic place. read more
