A real hidden gem located on the outskirts of Dixon Illinois. We went for lunch on a Saturday and were seated immediately. They offer indoor and outdoor seating so we chose to sit on their patio since it was such a nice June day. They have an extensive cocktail and craft beer list along with burgers, sandwiches,tacos,bowls,salads and BBQ. My wife had the Rodeo Burger on a GF bun which was loaded with pulled pork,bbq sauce and pepper jack cheese. The burger was huge and came with a side of slaw. I had to try their Trash Can Fries which were topped with Monterey Jack cheese sauce,pulled pork,pico and jalapenos. Absolutely delicious. They offer Daily Specials and are also known for their Chicken George which I have to try on my next visit. Plenty of parking and great for larger groups as well. read more

This was a great place to enjoy a pleasant afternoon lunch outside. The patio was very spacious with nice nature views. Our server did a great job of explaining gluten free options for me with a little help from the manager. When he suggested how he could modify the Rodeo Burger I was sold. It was packed with flavor and huge amount of pulled pork. I had Cole slaw as my side but there are many sides to choose. My husband ordered the Trash Can fries and they too came loaded with smokey, tender pulled pork. I would definitely return when in the area again. read more

Been here twice. The place looks great. Super friendly and quick service. My Philly with Brisket was delicious... but really small. The French fries were nothing special. I've had much better at a mom and pop red apple style restaurant. The value for your money is 3/10. read more

This place is a bit off the beaten path. It is in the same location as a former steakhouse which was torn down and completely rebuilt. When you walk in, you get a kind of sports bar / restaurant vibe. We were greeted and seated quickly, and started looking at the menu. There were sooooo many good things available - I decided to get their Chicken Fingers and Pulled Pork combo. My wife just got the chicken fingers. We started with an order of cheese curds. There were only two of us, and this was an order big enough for four. We toughed it out - the cheese was mozzrella with a very light batter, kind of tempura. The cheese curds were served with ranch dressing, and were fresh out of the fryer. The main courses came later, and when I saw my plate, I thought - DANG - I should have just ordered this for both of us. It was big enough to feed two people - large portions (full portion) of chicken fingers, full portion (6 ounces) of pulled pork, and a large portion of fries. The chicken fingers came with a creamy sauce for dipping - I liked it, my wife wasn't a fan. No worries, I used hers. Service was very good, the food was excellent, and they kept the glasses full. There is outdoor seating so you can be out looking at the sun, and they even have a shaded section. We'll be back - it was good. read more

We came for a large bday party. The service was amazing and the party room was great for the 20+ people we had. Had doors to close off the restaurant and enjoy our party. The food was great. They are known for the chicken George. The chicken was tasty with the dipping sauce. The gluten free bun was tasty. The burger was big and filling. The baked beans were amazing. I don't write many reviews online unless they are extremely good or extremely bad. This one is a little different because I encountered something I never dealt with before. Here we go.... 1. I absolutely loved the food! Had awesome Cheese curds, Burnt Ends (which were delicious and melted in the mouth. Jalapeno Mac N' Cheese which had perfect blend of both. Sounds like a weird mix, but cheesy Mac with a tiny kick was awesome. 2. The service was good not great (but I am chalking that up to the new server in training and having to learn the system). No one is 100% when learning a new job. 3. Atmosphere was great. Many places to sit either outdoors or indoors. everything very nicely spaced apart too. Not too loud or too quiet either. 4. Price (this is where I have to give a "disclaimer" and "warning" if your going to dine here. Ok, here goes.... The menu items and drinks are actually reasonably priced. I felt I had very good bang for the buck as far as portion size, quality, flavor, etc. All 5 stars. But where Palmyra dropped the ball was when I went to use my credit card to pay for the meal. *WARNING AHEAD* I followed the servers instructions and told her I wanted to make it an even $80 tab which included a $12.91 tip (about 21%-22% tip). All of this id done via a portable credit card scanner. It went through and I was given my copy which I reviewed a few minutes later. To my surprise, the amount on the bill was now $82.01 not $80 like I input into the scanner. I spoke to the manager on hand (a male) who informed me that there is a 3% "credit card fee" for using a card. He explained how they can refund my credit card if I wanted to pay cash (and that's what I ultimately did), but the whole 3% fee thing soured an otherwise enjoyable dinner. I felt the whole 3% fee was a little shady especially because I told the server my intentions, and neither she nor the trainer informed me of the 3% extra fee. I explained to the manager that the scanner should reflect that fee since it already knows you are using a credit card, but instead "tacks" it on "after the transaction" is completed. This is just shady in my opinion, even though I missed the "sign on the door" and the "fine print" on my receipt. How about having the servers inform the customer when they are paying with a credit card about the 3% fee? That would be an easy solution that would go a long way. I would definitely come back and not let this incident sway me from eating here again. I'm not a fan of this 2 tier (cash vs. credit card) pricing system, and will be more cautious of it in the future. Just be sure to have enough cash on hand so that you're not paying the restaurant's bills, along with your own meal! read more

This place would have been a total 5 from me, but the food just wasn't that great! The atmosphere on the patio was amazing. They have a projector and screen outside. There's corn hole! What a fun place! The service was awesome. We were helped by like 5 people but it kept the service moving fast and good. The food though. We got the pepper jack Mac n cheese bites which were AMAZING and some really really good cheese bites. Our food came and it looked really good. We got the fried cod with garlic fries, the steak and shrimp with potatoes and a side salad, and the blackened tilapia with grilled veggies and mashed potatoes. No one was really happy with their food. The mashed potatoes tasted like it didn't have any butter or anything in it to make it creamy. It was just kind of meh. The tilapia was incredibly over seasoned and so were the veggies. The steak was very over cooked... With all of this being said we WILL be back next time we're in town because the place was way too nice to let some under and over seasoned food ruin the wonderful service and atmosphere. TERRIBLE! Same tired menu with limited food that might be edible. Tried the smoked Prime Rib, should have known when it was set down, just smelled like it was burnt in a paper bag to attempt at a smoke taste. Overly price and unedible. Manager said he couldn't do anything to adjust because it does disclose it's smoked. It should say you won't be able to eat because it's so awful and deadly smelling. I certainly saved days of being ill and definitive trip to emergency room by not eat it. I usually make the mistake and try it once a year and always leave disappointed. After tonight, I will never go back. Thanks Mr. Manager, good decision. read more

Very Roomy, clean and comfortable! Great place to meet friends and family. Excellent staff and service. Sandwich was Turkey Avocado on Pretzel bread and ranch dressing , side of chips with a great cup of tomato soup! Looks like a great place to be when it gets warm outside with a nice open feel to walk around. Look forward to trying out the other dishes and drinks of choice on future visit. The pork tenderloin was huge and delicious. Also tried the brisket burger which was excellent. Awesome beer list with a few locals from Lena and Pecatonica and others I haven't seen anywhere else. Loved the outdoor patio seating and they accommodated a table of 9 with no notice. Server was attentive and offered great suggestions. Looked like they had a great outdoor area with a fire pit and space for the kids to run around. Great experience! Will be back if I'm in the area again. read more

I don't order many different things from there but I know what I like when I go there. The pepperjack max and cheese bites is my favorite appetizer and the south west chicken wrap is outstanding! They have a good sized drink menu including a wide variety of beers and cocktail specials. read more

My husband and I decided to go to dinner here because they have a very nice out door dining area. They seem to take the covid recommendations seriously so we felt comfortable dining there. The parking was plentiful and convenient with a nice ramp for easy wheelchair access. Our server was outstanding, very friendly and efficient. As soon as we were sat they delivered a little basket of muffins with a sweet butter. We ordered a cheese curd appetizer which was different from any we have ever had but they were very good, I highly recommended them. One order was a combo plate, first choice was kielbasa and chicken george but they didn't have kielbasa so switched it to shrimp with a side of onion rings. The onion rings were awful, they were cold and hard so I recommend choosing something else. The other meal was a pulled pork sandwich which came with coleslaw and an onion rings on it and a side of onion rings which were cold also. Other than the onion rings the food was outstanding. I can't attest to the bar drinks as we didn't partake this trip but in the past the rum buckets were very good. The restaurant was very clean however the floors were very slick, especially the restrooms. read more

My family and I love the Chicken George/Prime George family meal from here. However, what makes us keep going back isn't just the food itself.. the management is phenomenal!! They forgot to include our mashed potatoes in the bag (no big deal), and when we called to let them know, they were extremely apologetic and went above and beyond to make it up to us. So I have eaten here 4 times since moving to the area. The first 3 times were 5 star dinners. The last time I had the bbq and it was horrible. Old and over cooked, could not chew it and barely cut it with a knife, the baked beans were burnt as well. My wife's food was excellent that night though. The facility is very nice it looks like a ski lodge and inside like a wood crafters ideal of comfortable. The service was very good, Cassie came to the table with a friendly attitude only coming back when it was apparent that we may need service. This allowed us the attention to enjoy a comfortable uninterrupted conversation. The food was also good served warm and not burnt. I will come back however traveling here took 18 hours, so not practical though enjoyable. read more

Great little place in Dixon that some business associates invited us to join them at. Party of six started with the sampler platter - typical fried sampler, not all that special. Then we got the entrees ... good eating. I had the chimichurri steak, there were several that ate the fish and steak options and one that ate a grilled chicken entrée. The various sides were of good quality and the prices were very good - even considering a smaller town price points. We all enjoyed a drink or two and the liquor brands were top notch and the pours were generous ... we can't complain. read more

My favorite bar & restaurant in the Sauk Valley area. Not too many pubs around here even quite deserve a review, but this place deserves all five stars. It's a very nice and relaxed place, there's no feeling too dressed up or overdressed. The staff themselves is the backbone to the entire place. I've never had a bad experience with a bartender, waiter, or any other staff. They are all very friendly and welcoming. The bar itself has specials usually every day of the week and there's always happy hour so there's usually time to save a buck! There have a great assortment of beers on tap and bottle selection. The food though is what brings me back. All the ingredients are very fresh and the dishes are very precisely served. If you haven't tried the potato skins with Thai sauce I highly recommend. 10/10.q read more

Since my last review, Place on Palmyra has changed ownership and has overall changed quite a bit. Prices are VERY high, the wraps I wrote about before will now cost you about $15 if you want a side, $11 if you don't. Menu is much smaller, but does now include the locally famous "Chicken George," (this business is now owned by the Candlelight franchise). Food is still tasty, service remains quality, but a shrunken menu and drastically increased prices definitely loses a star in my book. read more

To begin with, the atmosphere of the restaurant was incredible. The employees were very friendly and helpful. We asked the manager for his recommendation that we did eventually try as our appetizer. The restrooms are very clean. We ordered the appetizer "trash can fries." The fries were ultimately delicious. They were out of the pork that goes on top of the fries, but happily substituted brisket with no extra cost. The fries had an array of toppings, but was more fit for a party of three and not five. For the entree, our party ordered what is known to be their signature dish, which is the "Chicken George." I ordered half buffalo and half regular. The buffalo sauce on the chicken made the chicken soggy. I would recommend ordering the buffalo sauce on the side. They have a dipping sauce known as "Jan" sauce. It is kind of comparable to a honey mustard. It is very tasty and I highly recommend it. The ranch was not the most satisfying sauce. The barbecue sauce was very delicious. It should be known that they offer several sides that are not listed on the menu. They also offer items that they were not able to supply due to shortages for the nig Overall service was amazing. The employees are very friendly and happy to help each other. The manager spoke to us several times throughout our experience and was very friendly. Our server was very attentive and friendly as well. Her name was "Courtney" and I would recommend using her as your server. If I am ever back in this area I would definitely choose this restaurant as my dinner choice. read more
