You're unlikely to find this eatery by accident, so make the effort, it's worth it. A unique menu , with nightly specials that are not the same old thing. The salad bar has some different things, as well, like pickled herring. I ordered the massive fried pork tenderloin and a side of onion rings, some of the best I've had anywhere, and I've probably had them in 30+ countries. The tenderloin had a light batter crust, crispy but fried just lightly enough that the pork retained it's juicyness. They have a number of fish offerings, I hope to return to try some of those. read more

We love Rivers Edge! They have great food! Do you love a fantastic pork tenderloin, they have it! Do you love a great steak, they definitely have that! The cowboy butter ribeye is great but the NY strip is equally as good! If you go for dinner you have to try the twice baked potato is really good! Every dinner comes with soup and salad in the price! They don't charge us for a shared plate in the case my wife and I are alone for a dinner and want to share a meal. Great service also! It's the only restaurant in the whole area with a view of the Rock River! The facility could use some updates for sure but the food ! read more

Food and service were excellent. We were a party of 5. I was visiting from Nebraska and had heard great things about the restaurant so I encouraged my family to try it out. The table next to us had a child who brought her violin and thought we needed to listen to her practice while we waited for our food. After being there for an hour we were asked by the hostess to leave because they needed our table. In my 66 years I've NEVER been asked to LEAVE a restaurant before. We went here on a Saturday and it was pretty packed and busy. Even so, the staff was attentive and the service was quick. They have a small salad bar, but the selecting is good for being so small. The food was good and the portions are pretty hefty. There's a good view of the river, and if that's not your thing, there's some video slot machines by the bar (the wife won $300) It's a little off the beaten path but I'd say it's worth the trip. read more

We went there on a Sunday night. It was busy but we got seated within 5 minutes. The waitress said she would be right back with menus. That took 15 min. We ordered cokes. They were completely flat. We waited another 15 minutes. We noticed the man next to us had finished his salad before we got there and was still waiting for his dinner the whole time we were there. I'd heard their ads (featuring Rolling on the River from the Doobie Brothers) on the radio numerous times, so when we had the chance to try it out with friends, we jumped at it! When you pull up, you have to look for this place. It looks like a house on the river, but it's a restaurant. Dinner was quite good. My first impressions of the bar were well, no draft beer? Why not? They did have a full bar otherwise. The salad bar is average - a few cold salads, along with basic iceberg lettuce and toppings. The salad dressing was good. If you get there at the right time, you can get a view of the river, which is nice. The food was good. I had their top sirloin, and my wife had their Fish Fry (walleye) for her entrée. The inside of the place smacks of the 70's or early 80's. It's got that kind of vibe to it. Good food for decent prices so what's not to like. read more

The restaurant is right along the Rock River with a nice view of the river birds and boats going by. There is plenty of free parking, most of it is not marked and gravel so it is difficult with a walker, cane or wheelchair. The restaurant is handicap accessible as long as there is someone to open the door for you. The restaurant was very clean and well appointed. We went had a table of 5 and ordered a variety of things from sandwiches to steaks the dinner meals came with the soup and salad bar. The food was served hot and fresh but it it was very spread out time wise and we had to ask for things that should have came out with the meal for example the top of the pork tenderloin's bun. The server was very friendly and as soon as we reminded her of things she brought them right out. The kitchen might want to work on it's timing and prep as sending out the same table's meals spaced out over 10 minutes could make the server look bad. There is a full bar and video poker machines if that is to your liking. read more

My mom wanted a restaurant that was on the water in Dixon, and I was able to find this place 2 miles away from downtown area and it was worth it. The decor was very nice and we got to sit right by the window. They had a soup and salad bar which was nice. Then we both ordered the you pick 3 for 15$. It should be a steal by how cheap it is for how much you get. By the photo below, it was definitely a lot of food and it tasted very good. All of the staff was very nice as well as well as the owner coming to talk to us. If I'm in the area, I would definitely come back. read more

The huge fried tenderloin and fries was ABSOLUTELY wonderful. It was a massive piece of pork loin, almost as big as the plate, battered and fried (rather than breaded and fried as is standard for huge Hoosier Tenderloins) and served on a comically small bun (in comparison), with tomato, onions and lettuce and some cole slaw on the side. In spite of the massive size, the meat was thick, tender and flavorful. The fries were excellent as well, and seemed to have very flavorful light batter coating. The service was very fast, efficient and friendly. We loved the tables by large windows overlooking the Rock River. It appears that the place has recently been updated and remodeled on the inside, with newer flooring. read more

What can I say. Great place right on the river. Service fantastic. Friendly servers and easy to talk with. They give suggestions to us newer costumers. This is obviously a popular local diner. The good reviews brought us in, but we found it was not the fresh food we expected. Salad bar is the throwback offering head lettuce and bacon bits/chopped boiled egg/misc toppings and potato salad. Tomato soup tasted just like the simple Campbell's canned soup. Cod dinner was akin to Vandekamp's frozen fish with canned green beans and choice of potato. View was nice, service was great, people were friendly. For beer lovers, no beer on draft and selection is basic. read more

They have this awesome dinner meal where you can choose all kinds of meats and sides for a good price with a nice salad bar. Called on Fri to verify prime rib was served on Saturday. Asked if I needed to come early Was told if I came between 6 & 7, I'd be OK. Showed up at 6:30 for my Birthday dinner & no prime rib! River's Edge Inn is tucked into a residential area along the Rock River west of downtown Dixon - a bit out of the way but easy to find. I grew up in the area and visited this restaurant on a tip from a family member. There weren't many places open for a good sit-down meal on a Sunday night, and we were pleasantly surprised when we stopped here. I had the half-pound bacon cheeseburger, which was very filling and cooked just right. My girlfriend is a vegetarian but found options on the appetizer menu and at the salad bar. We enjoyed views of the Rock River as we dined just before sunset. Service was great, even though we walked in the door a half-hour before closing. I'm sure we'll be back and I look forward to trying their steak! read more

The place is filthy. I only stayed because I was with 2 other people. The carpet looked disgusting, the windows were smeared, the men's bathroom- Ive seen clesner port-a-potties. And there was just a musky, moldy smell. I just had a coffee because I just could not bring myself to buy food from a restaurant that's obviously not much concerned about cleanliness in their dining area- didnt want to think about what the kitchen area might be like! read more

My wife, daughter and I had dinner at River's Edge this evening. We've been there frequently but tonight we had an issue with our order. You can measure the quality of the people that run a restaurant by how they handle an issue. I ordered the "Pick 3", with chicken, steak and pork. However they were our of chicken. I asked for 2 pork and one steak. Was told that you can not pick 2 of the same thing. I asked them to make an exception due to them being out of chicken. The waitress was very hesitant but finally went to the kitchen to ask. The cuss words that my wife and daughter heard from the kitchen were totally unacceptable and the waitress came back and said "sorry, the kitchen won't accommodate you request". I ordered something else and we ate, but our visiting River's Edge will probably be much less frequent in the future. When I go out for dinner I want good food and friendly, accommodating service. River's Edge did well on the quality of the food and our server was friendly, but they failed on being accommodating of their customer. read more

Was in town for business and someone recommended this spot and I'm glad I stopped in. It is your average watering hole but with a beautiful view of the river and a good amount of tasty homemade comfort food. Friendly waitress and very attentive. Great home cooked food! The fried mushroom appetizer was fresh and not frozen and a large portion! Even as a vegetarian i was able to get a salad bar and baked potato. The salad bar has the usual stuff but also so very good homemade bean salads & macaroni salad. My husband had the 3 plate combo with ribs, shrimp, and cod with mashed potatoes and said it was great. Table tops are sticky. They need to just redo the whole place. It's mostly for truckers and the cliental is mostly retired people.

Rivers Edge has too be the most disgusting restaurant in the area the place was absolutely filthy the salt and pepper shakers the jelly packs and the silverware were covered in filth very sticky. The food was sub par at best. Would not recommend. After eating I felt sick too my stomach I can't believe people actually go their too eat with all the other good choices in the Dixon area. the only place in dixon on the rock river.julie's breakfast is great. the food comes on a platter and the hash browns fills the whole plate. there's nothing better than cruising up by river on a sunday morning and docking your boat and going in, ordering breakfast, and enjoying it while watching the boats go by on the river. read more
