Breaded, pork tenderloin sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy

I went back there again and this time I tried the huge pork tenderloin sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy! It was delicious, but I couldn't even finish the whole thing...

A view of the dining are with the bar and video poker area

The restaurant is right along the Rock River with a nice view of the river birds and boats going by. There is plenty of free parking, most of it is not marked and gravel so it is difficult with a walker, cane or wheelchair. The restaurant is handicap accessible as long as there is someone to open the door for you. The restaurant was very clean and well appointed. We went had a table of 5 and ordered a variety of things from sandwiches to steaks the dinner meals came with the soup and salad bar. The food was served hot and fresh but it it was very spread out time wise and we had to ask for things that should have came out with the meal for example the top of the pork tenderloin's bun. The server was very friendly and as soon as we reminded her of things she brought them right out. The kitchen might want to work on it's timing and prep as sending out the same table's meals spaced out over 10 minutes could make the server look bad. There is a full bar and video poker machines if that is to your liking.

    H U G E onion rings. And soo good!

Great surprise! Very friendly & fast service. View was beautiful & relaxing. Onion rings were HUGE & delicious. Everything else was great as well but I ate it and forgot to take a pic!

    You pick 3 for 15$

My mom wanted a restaurant that was on the water in Dixon, and I was able to find this place 2 miles away from downtown area and it was worth it. The decor was very nice and we got to sit right by the window. They had a soup and salad bar which was nice. Then we both ordered the you pick 3 for 15$. It should be a steal by how cheap it is for how much you get. By the photo below, it was definitely a lot of food and it tasted very good. All of the staff was very nice as well as well as the owner coming to talk to us. If I'm in the area, I would definitely come back.

Table tops are sticky. They need to just redo the whole place. It's mostly for truckers and the cliental is mostly retired people.

It gets uncomfortably warm inside, especially by the doors. Lots of people mean the wait staff have to navigate and at two times during our meal they had to have one of my family members get up from their seat to allow someone to pass. They really need to properly accommodate the people having to wait to be seated. That's my one star deduction. That said, the food is good. The wait staff are very attentive. And it is my family's favorite breakfast place in Sterling. I have not been during the week but have to assume it's much less crowded. Enjoy!

Pros: + Service and the operation was incredibly efficient for being in a busy breakfast rush. + The swedish pancakes were some of the best I've had in recent memory. Very fresh and stayed hot until finished. That's not very common for this dish. + Ample space in the parking lot. Establishment itself seemed well kept. + Very cost effective price wise. Cons: - While not bad, I've had better in both the hash browns and especially sausage links. This is a nit pick however and not a true problem. - Like many establishments of its kind, I wonder if the menu is too extensive. While not directly proven, it does create questions of quantity over quality dish to dish. Side note: -The restroom had a strange scent that reminded me of a bait and tackle ship right after one gets down after cleaning fish. Just an odd observation. Bottom line: If I was a local this would easily be a regular stop. the busy breakfast turnout is well deserved. Maple Pancake House completely nails classi American morning diner. A great place

From fave to least fave: Croque Madame: incredibly good! They were nice enough to make a fresh one for me since I can't have mustard. The egg was perfectly cooked and all the flavors blended seamlessly. Swedish Strawberry Cake: absolutely to die for! The lemon curd was fresh and perfect with the strawberry rhubarb sauce. My only thing is the frosting was cream cheese and that wasn't mentioned on the menu, so it should be added. Norwegian Handheld: I loved the overall concept of this dish and all the flavors themselves. However, the ingredient ratios were off for my 100% satisfaction. There wasn't enough pork belly and too much of the herb whipped cheese. I did still enjoy the dish and wouldn't mind having it again. Other than having to deal with a freight train that stopped on the tracks right as we were trying to get to the restaurant from the theater, and having to go way out to the west end of town to get around it, everything about our experience was superb! I'm pretty sure we were seated by the owner, who was amazing to talk to. You could tell she loved what she did and what they provide to their customers. She put us in the charge of the bartender, who brought our drinks, took our orders, and checked on us regularly throughout the meal, even though she was doing double duty. We had a large lunch, so we weren't going to eat much for dinner. As soon as I read the menu I realized I was going to have a hard time deciding, but I love cinnamon ice cream, so I knew I needed to leave enough room for dessert. I ended up ordering the grilled cheese, which came with bacon (hold the tomato), and the homemade chips as my side. Everything was delicious. I brought half of my meal home, and it was just as delicious when reheated with my air fryer a few days later. My husband had the Acres Pretzel, which was huge and yummy. (I had a bite to try it!) The cheese sauce with it was thinner than expected, but very good. We started out with a Manhattan for me and some Lena Brewing caramel pecan coffee stout for him. Mine was perfectly crafted, and I took a sip of his, which was also yummy. In addition to my cinnamon ice cream, we each had a dessert drink. He had the Chocolate Caramel Kiss, and I had the Banana Bread. Again, very yummy. The cost of all of this came to under $75, which we thought was marvelous. Coming out from the city, the prices here are definitely more reasonable and much appreciated! We have this restaurant on our radar now, so anytime we are out this way again, we will head there. We are already making plans to come out and see a show next summer, if not before that. To the owner and all the other staff, thanks for such a lovely experience! You have a wonderful establishment!
