Restaurant was nice and food was good. We were in town for a camp for our daughter. The service was mid, our server wasn't very attentive. I was incredibly disgusted with finding a dark hair wrapped in the silverware. When I mentioned this to our service she shrugged it off like it didn't matter. We'll, it did too me! The restaurant was really full, but there was no wait so we were really excited to give this place a try. The one thing that I did not like is that the tables are really close together. The table next to us was less than a foot apart (see video). So if that will bother you make sure you tell them you want a booth. You hear every conversation because they have instrumental music playing in the background but you can barely hear it. Our waitress was very sweet and nice. She paid good attention to us. She kept out beverages filled without us having to wait too long so she was an A+ waitress. I ordered the two egg breakfast with pancakes and I told him to keep the hashbrowns because I believe that is way too many carbs for one meal. I wish they would let you substitute the hashbrowns for cottage cheese without the $2 up charge. I would eat here again, but I don't think I would go out of my way to dine here again. They do have salads so that is probably what I will have if / when we dine here next time. The restaurant is very clean and everyone working here is really nice and polite. We tried to come here for breakfast a couple of months ago but the wait was too long. We came back on a Saturday noon in February, and we got lucky this time. We were seated as soon as we walked in. The place was clean, and bright. The servers were friendly and efficient. My kids ordered the BUTCHER SHOP BOWL and the FARMHOUSE BOWL. Both dishes were filled with goodness. Wow! Amazing hidden gem on the border of dekalb and Sycamore. Amazing food, very flavorful and fresh and exciting features cleaner than conventional ingredients. Staff are very friendly and attentive, and everything looks very well maintained and put together. Spent the weekend in town due to homecoming and had to stopped here before heading home to the city. This was one of my favorite breakfasts spot when I lived in Dekalb and attended NIU. Took my mom out for breakfast after I had fasted overnight for a morning procedure, so I was definitely hungry!! First, very clean and pleasant look and feel when you walk in. Device was spot on. Host staff made you feel welcome and we were sat immediately. I had the traditional eggs Benedict. Well done. The hollandaise sauce was velvety smooth and so full of flavor. The food and service was amazing except we couldn't hear our name being called out because there were children and adults being so loud. It is the best French toast i had in America! Fruity, jammy and cheese. Fresh, tasty. Slightly sweet, sour from the fruit but not overwhelming! In other breakfast places they put toooooo much sugar and sweetener and they kill all the taste and fun. This place here prepared food like I would bc they obviously don't have nothing to hide. I also tried the strawberry orange juice- very sweet! I did like it, however it did taste better once I got alcohol in it. My daughter had a dance/cheerleading competition at Dekalb high school.... they performed at 8:30 and awards is 12:30 So my BF and I checked out Yelp and wanted breakfast Egg Haven had good reviews so we decided to try them out. My favorite place for brunch. You have the choice, later in the morning, between the breakfast or the lunch menus. I never get to the lunch menu because the breakfast menu is varied and food quality and preparation is excellent. I have to eat gluten-free. While G-F items on the menu are limited to toast and pancakes, I have been able to eat here safely. For all the different breakfast and brunch places I've tried I can say this honestly is the top 3. Based on recommendations from friends they said this is the place to eat on a Sunday after waking up from a night out. They were right. The wait was about 10 minutes around 12PM, which was not bad. The overall food portion size was huge. A skillet could feed two people and it came with a side of pancakes too (this can be subbed for toast). The Espanola skillet was off the chain, with 2 sunny side up eggs and chorizo all melted together. The spicy flavor was bursting with flavor. The cinnamon roll pancakes were pretty good. I felt like the pancakes were a little on the dry side, but the icing helped make up for it. Overall an amazing place to try out and would go to again. read more

We came into town and thought we would have a good experience based on the other Yelp reviews but we did not. Egg Haven Pancakes & Cafe nickel and dimed us based on our dietary observances. My party and I don't eat pork so we asked that the bacon and pork sausage on the NIU French Toast option be substituted for chicken sausage. I wasn't happy with having an upcharge just because I can't eat the pork but okay, I was willing to let it go until I was told by the server Mike that there would be two service charges per person because of having to substitute bacon and sausages. I asked for the manager and Karen came to our table already with her voice elevated and an attitude telling me that chicken costs more than pork. Ok but when you look at the sides menu you see that they are both priced the same at $3.95 but I digress. When Karen finished trying to shut me down, I still spoke my grievance with having two upcharges per person. She then tells me "oh no, we do have a way to just charge one upcharge for all chicken but let me just check first before we charge you". Server Mike comes back then tells me that even though we are substituting 4 pieces of pork that we will only receive 3 pieces of chicken which is a ripoff. We then get our meal and it's cold. The eggs tasted watery. The french toast didn't have any other flavor to it except butter. And these chicken sausage that all this fuss was over was bland and greasy. We took leap of faith and made the 40 minute drive to Egg Haven. HOLY COW we love this place. This was our first time, and we were so impressed. The hostess was friendly, sat us right away. And the skillet was delicious! The coffee was outstanding and they bring you real cream! They offer a senior discount! I really need to point out their Crepes though. I LOVE crepes and this my new favorite place for crepes. So light, so fluffy, so delicious! The apple cinnamon crepes are new my all time favorite.
