After reading some of the other reviews, I wasn't sure what to think, but I was pleasantly surprised they had the menu you could order from or the buffet. The buffet was well stocked with fresh food items, and the baked chicken was hot and moist. So a good experience all around. read more

This had got to be some of the worst food I have ever even tried to eat! To start things off with, I walked in and the sign said seat yourself, in which I did. I guess there was only one lady working for the entire store because it took her over five minutes to even notice that I was sitting there waiting on her to take my drink order. They are only doing buffet and have some god-awful heavy steel skillets in lieu of plates. The meatloaf was extremely horrible, and actually looked and tasted like dog food with ketchup on it. The baked chicken tasted like it's been sitting there for over a week. The only decent thing I found to eat was the mashed potatoes. Horrible, horrible, horrible !!! read more

On 7/7/2024 at 2155 hours, my wife and I walked into the Iron Skillet only to be told they were closed. We only wanted the salad bar, but were turned away anyway. After the closing waitress upset us we walked out, she then placed the section closed in the middle of the dining entrance walkway and then went to count her drawer. I then told her I would lodging a complaint as it was warranted. She said not really as no customers had been in there for some time. She then said Y'all have a good night. It would be a great night and if I had some food in my stomach after a long day of driving. Will be speaking with the manager, Jill, in the morning, as well. read more

Didnt look like much of a joynt but, I was heavily involved in mucho travel on that day. My friend called and said he would be in the area I was passing thru, did I want to meet up for a quick lunch? Sure I said. Busily behind the wheel with no time to research , I let him pick the place as he'd eaten there before . It did not disappoint. I had an elk burger and told them to make it rare. Ive had game meat before, and know there is almost no fat in game meat. It goes from rare to well done in a jiffy. I didn't feel like eating a hockey puck. Well , wouldn't you know... they listened to me. A perfectly rare elk burger. Order game meat rare, as it would be just like eating a medium rare hamburger. Very tasty with all the trimmings and sides along with mixed veggies, it was worth the $10.99 they charged. Service was nice , the waitress a young lady in her 20s was very pleasant and smiling. My friend had a regular burger and expressed satisfaction with his meal. Yes the Iron Skillet did us , just fine. Thank you very much. Staff was very friendly and attentive, but order off the menu. The buffet at first sight looked good, but when I started digging into my meal it was less than satisfying. Everything was hot, but chicken was dry and over cooked, meatloaf was not good. Salad was the only redeeming part of buffet and even that didn't help much. My family (2 adults, 2 kids) stopped on a Thursday while traveling and had the lunch buffet. I can't say anything bad about any of the food we chose from the buffet. It all tasted amazing! Very impressed. So glad we decided to stop here instead of fast food. My son said the chicken nuggets tasted like McDonalds but even better. read more

Been here 2 times now. The first time I had breakfast and it gave me heartburn before I even got up from the table. The second time I had breakfast again but I had the buffet. No heartburn this time but ended up waking up a few hours later with an upset stomach. Don't eat here unless you want to be sick. read more

I really used to like this place, it has been some time since I have visited. Lunch buffet wasn't so good. Basically all potato and noodle dishes, so all carbs. The salad bar was great! They had a pan of baked chicken quarters, completely overcooked and dried out. read more

It's a truck stop and the food is what you would expect. Their buffet has a pretty good selection, however if you're looking to eat healthy, go to the sandwich shop on the other side of the facility. The waitresses are always there when you need a refill and manage to be around just enough to be helpful and not so much as to be annoying. I try to make a stop here every so often when I am in the area. read more

The buffet today as exceptional. I've never had the corned beef and cabbage there before. I think the cabbage could have stood a bit more cooking but the beef was moist and tender as can be. I enjoyed all the items I tried. I will be back. read more

no choice to eat but Buffett that's it and it's nasty af. waitress was very rude when asked if they had anything for a 3 year old she said buffet but nothing he would eat. they brought fresh food out and instead of taking old food out they put fresh on top of old. Ibeleibe that is a health violation not sure. dude picked his nose twice and touched everything like the spoons and forks. this one must be closing soon cause I have seen it in last few months just go down hill this use to be one of my favorite places to stop at not anymore. just nasty. does no good to say anything cause they don't care either. read more

It's a shame that Petro keeps Iron Skillet as its anchor restaurant. Their food really is low quality overall. The buffet is fair, but there is a lot of unhealthy and poor quality dishes. Salad bar is decent though. Every time I have to eat here because I'm stuck at a truck stop with no real choices I wish I'd have just eaten ramen instead. read more

First impression..... the waitress did not want to be there. You could tell by how she acted and treated people. 2 people ate. 1 ate the buffet and 1 ordered off the menu. Buffet did not look very good but figured they would be putting new items out. Got 1 plate and they changed over to the dinner buffet. The waitress failed to say that it would be changing over. Even what was on the dinner buffet was not the best, in fact you could tell it's been sitting awhile. Food off the menu you would have thought it would be better..... NOPE! Chicken was dry, tasted like it was frozen, taken out then cooked.... and the BBQ sauce.... that was the worse I've ever had... Best thing I ate..... the fries (after I seasoned "seasoned fries"). When I checked out they didn't ask how things were or even tell me what the check was (even though I knew but it's still a nice gesture) then as I was leaving never told me to have a nice day or to come back. I ordered 2 eggs bacon sour dough toast, this what I got, 2 eggs complete with egg shell bacon cooked in the deep fryer and white toast. when I asked the waitress about the toast her response they told me it was sour dough. Just finished lunch here and it was good. Chris was our server and she was very pleasant and helpful. The food was hot and fresh. We didn't get the buffet but it had a lot of items on it. The seems to be some discrepancies in their menu and what they serve. The pictures don't match their options. Didn't bother us or mess with our order but a little weird. read more

As truck stops go, Petro no doubt has the best food, even putting TAs to shame but I was very disappointed with this one. I ordered the salmon and what I got was a small overcooked dry portion and there was only iceberg lettuce on the salad bar, which I'd expect in the south. Later, I went back in and ordered a slice of hot apple pie with vanilla ice cream and what I got was barely warm pie with a few large chunks of ice in my ice cream to which the waitress said was attributed to them dipping the scoop in warm water. Years ago, this used to very good truck stop restaurant. The buffet had very tough roast beef, dried out ham, salty soup, inedible green beans, plastic cups of pudding and jello for dessert. No homemade pie like they advertise. The sausage from the brunch was the only good meat. Meatloaf, corn on the cob, fish were empty and never filled. $13.49 cause it was Sunday. Waitress came once, gave us water and the check. Go inside McD's and eat if you are looking for a sit down meal. read more

The place is set up weard it's not a private place were u can go and injoy a coffee and meal after trucking all day it's so open were u are right beside someone. Or u are facing someone it's not comfortable at all that way. The foods ok. It wasn't the best and the servers didn't give u the time of day. I wanted a coffee refill and it finaly came when I was ready to leave. I went into the store and actually bought one there to bring with me. we were in unfamiliar territory and very hungry. Saw the sign for Iron Skillet, surprised to see it was a truck stop (usually means good food) even more surprised to see it was a buffet. The surprise was on us. We didn't ask for a menu or the price of the buffet, just jumped right in. The salad bar was being filled with fresh items, all the things we love in a salad. That's where the pleasantness ended. Corned beef and cabbage is not my favorite but it was the one thing I enjoyed, maybe because I only took a small portion. The ribs weren't bad but I've had much better, the lasagna, mostaciolli? couldn't tell what it was all mushed and dried together. The mac & cheese had absolutely no flavor. Only two choices for dessert, cobbler and bread pudding. The cobbler was decent but there should have been ice cream. The waitress offered us ice cream but after the ridiculous charge for the buffet we turned it down, knowing it would be additional. The service was good, the dishes were cleaned up promptly and the waitresses kept checking on us. It was seat yourself and we didn't realize there was more to the restaurant so we sat with the truckers who sat at the semi circle bar surrounding us so it was a bit awkward. We were happy to have found a restaurant on a blank stretch of highway but I would never go back to another one. read more

A friend had mentioned that they had eaten there while traveling a few years ago and it was good food, so I had high hopes.
