Hadn't been here for years but while getting my car serviced I stopped by for breakfast last weekend and was reminded how good their food was. Luckily got here before the brunch crowd since by the time I left there was a line. Definitely a loval favorite. I had the Florentine omelet and it was loaded with spinach and bacon. So good! The hollandaise was decadent. Hash browns were crunch and hot. Service was friendly and efficient. Constant refills on coffee helped. Glad I stopped by. read more

We had been to the Walnut Creek Buttercup a few times and always had a good experience. Feeling like a late lunch on Friday it was time to try the Concord Buttercup, and luckily they were open all day. We were seated quickly and in spite of the after lunch timing there was still a good number of patrons in the restaurant, a good sign. We wanted to try their omelettes, so I ordered the Denver omelette and my wife the Florentine omelette. The lunch came remarkably fast, which was good because we were hungry! Each order came with hash browns on the side, which were nicely cooked. Both our omelettes were excellent, and we had enough left over for dinner. Our server was very friendly and shared that she had been there 21 years - a good sign that this place takes care of their people. We'll be back to try their desserts. read more

Pleasant staff. Comfortable atmosphere. Great clam chowder today.! I'd been wanting to try it and it was such a wonderful experience. My favorite place to eat out. I'm single and often come in alone. They make me feel at home. read more

We've had brunch there several times, close to fiancée's house. Last night, dinner to go...her French dip sandwich loaded with meat and came with a nice salad. I had the Downtown Club sandwich (trio of sourdough bread with lettuce, tomatoes, bacon, smoked turkey, ham, jack cheese) and great curly fries. Ready on time. Both quite pleased! read more

I love my Buttercup Restaurant on Clayton Rd in Concord. I have been coming here for 20 plus years. The staff knows our names and what we order. Here is to 20 more years. read more

Love their coconut crème pie, it's delicious. I've also had this chicken n waffles. Staff is friendly

This place is cute! Your typical diner vibes--which I love. The service is good, everyone is very nice and quick to help out. The food is just okay. My breakfast burrito was good--nothing to write home about. The hashbrowns were pretty bad, very undercooked. My partner's churro waffle combo was good. Only get that if you have a huge sweet tooth! My friend was pretty underwhelmed with the salad, but said it was okay. Overall, definitely a serviceable place to go to if you're in the area. read more

I had a better dining experience at this place this time around compared to my previous visit. For my main dish, I ordered the country fried steak topped with country gravy, served with eggs (I chose over easy), a choice of hash browns or O'Brien potatoes, and toast. The country fried steak was decent--not overly salty--and the gravy was tasty as well. That said, next time I'd probably ask for the gravy to be on the side instead of poured over the steak. My white toast was also much better this time; on my last visit, the rye toast was so dry it was almost cracker-like. Since I enjoyed the hash browns previously, I decided to try the O'Brien potatoes this time. While they were cooked perfectly, they seemed to have cooked the potatoes with some sort of tomato paste so they had this flavor that I didn't really care for. The texture was spot on, but the taste just wasn't for me--it's just my own personal preference. We also ordered a few sweet items to share at the table: a three-stack of buttermilk pancakes and French toast. The pancakes were excellent--fluffy and springy. The French toast, on the other hand, was a bit disappointing. Although it looked great presentation-wise, it tasted overly eggy and lacked sweetness and spice (like cinnamon). I had to douse it in syrup to get some sweetness in each bite, and even then, it still felt off. I'd skip that next time. Service started out great--our first server was friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, his shift ended during our meal, and the server who took over wasn't nearly as attentive, which left the service feeling inconsistent overall. We were tempted to try the bread pudding but were too full. I've also heard great things about their upside-down apple walnut pie, so I'm definitely planning to come back for dessert sometime soon. All in all, the food here is pretty good, especially if you're really hungry and in the mood for a big hearty breakfast. Portions are definitely generous. However, I'd say this place leans more toward quantity than quality. While I enjoyed the big portions, I've had better breakfast experiences elsewhere. read more

Always a nice comfort meal. Relaxing and chill environment. It was a quiet night and as we get older we enjoy a nice quiet meal.

1st time trying out this place and I ordered for to go! The order was ready in about 20 minutes so it was pretty fast. There's a lot of parking in the lot as well so parking was nice and easy The inside of the restaurant was pretty large and kind of reminds me of black bear diner a bit in terms of ambiance and decor. I got the biscuit breakfast and the portion was HUGE and so heavy. You can literally eat like 2-4 meals out of this. Pretty much it's biscuits covered with gravy, cheese, eggs, and chicken tenders. It tasted good but man it is pretty heavy for a first meal of the day lol. This dish kind of felt like something you'd eat if you had the munchies and was pretty solid. For the onion rings, they were pretty smackin and the ranch was pretty fire As a ranch person, their ranch is pretty legit My wife got the banana foster french toast. It came with 6 half slices of french toast topped with caramelized bananas and sitting in a pool of syrup. Pretty good but also really sweet. I kind of wish that it wasn't sitting in syrup as I feel that it made each piece of french toast really sweet. I would've just preferred all the syrup on the side tbh to control how much syrup goes on it. Otherwise, the french toast itself was pretty fluffy and had a great texture. Overall pretty decent food for a great price! read more

Today we came to this Buttercup location for brunch. We had the pleasure of being served by Luis. He was very polite, pleasant, patient, and most of all very knowledgeable of the menu. Definitely recommend coming here! The food was delicious: Breakfast burrito and Chilaquiles. read more

My husband had never been here before, & I hadn't been here in years, so we figured let's see what it's like these days! It was definitely busy but the staff was attentive & quick -- clearly a popular spot! They have upgraded the decor since the last time I was there, & thought it looked nice! We were very pleased with how many vegetarian options they had, too. My husband ordered a Biscuit Benedict, & was able to substitute the Canadian bacon for an Impossible patty! He said it was super delicious! I ordered the feta & veggie omelette, which had a ton of flavor! They also had blood orange juice which was absolutely to die for. read more

We had dinner in buttercup, concord, ca. I ordered linguine and meatballs but the waitress delivered Fettuccine Alfredo without any meats. I thought i was confused. I looked at the menu again and was sure I ordered the linguine and meatballs. That waitress did not even apologize. Later she delivered the linguine and meatballs, and I noticed there was 1 meatballs with a few pasta. I didn't want to argue. Very disappointing experience and ridiculous service read more

Walking in & welcomed immediately! They were very kind and sat us down quickly. Our waitress was very kind and great memory. She took our orders without writing it down and everything came out right. The food was delicious and there was plenty of it. Buttercup is hands down the best breakfast in Concord. Wait staff is extremely good and always friendly and spot on. Just enough attention that you never need to ask for anything. Coffee refilled before you need to ask. The bananas foster French toast warms the soul. Comfortable inside and tables aren't on top of each other and always clean and maintained. The vegetarian sandwich is one of favorites and I can order it for breakfast. Many of the wait staff have been there forever.. that in and of itself, speaks volumes. read more

Good is great and the churro waffle is a must ! Service is super pricey reasonably good . Coffee is good .

Despite some "rough edges," ButtercuP on Clayton Road remains our reliable destination. We live close by and have few other options for All American food in the neighborhood. On our most recent visit, we were happy to see the new Autumn menu. I had gone with the idea of comfort food in the form of either the meat loaf or a patty melt. A new item, a meat loaf melt, sounded like the best of both worlds. Large portion, a bit on the greasy side. Glad I opted for the horseradish sauce on the side. Not to my palate. Would have totally ruined the sandwich. Sweet potato fries were quite good. Two of the pies for the fall season were tempting: pecan and pumpkin. Next time. Past experience shows I shouldn't expect much from the wine list. Often the server doesn't even know what wine is available and it is rare to even find a printed copy on the table. This time I ordered a Merlot, not the best option. In recent visits we have found the bread underdone. Inedible! Also salads are not up to quality of the past so we usually stick to sandwiches, the low cal salmon plate read more

First time at ButtercuP today. Our server was a ray of sunshine and the food came out quickly -- hot and freshly made to order. My son snagged the last slice of coconut cream pie and said the filling was quite good. The crust was just OK -- not flakey. He is spoiled by my homemade pies. Very nice, casual diner with a few tables for outdoor dining available. We will be back. read more

This is our family favorite for a Sunday meal after church. We have come here for years and the kids have grown up with Ben, Nicole, Pearl "The Doctor" and countless others. The food is always amazing and makes the kids think of home and many happy celebrations held here. Whenever they are visiting the Bay we always have to make a special stop to on of our favorite nostalgic meal stops for some "home cooked food". We love this place and the family that runs this establishment. read more

My family and I recently visited Buttercup, and I wanted to highlight the amazing customer service we experienced. There was a small misunderstanding with one of the menu items--my stepmom thought she was ordering something different than what came out. When the manager came by to check on us and we explained the situation, he immediately stepped in and offered to remake the dish. Not only did he fix it quickly, but the new dish was absolutely exceptional--honestly a 12/10! Unfortunately, I didn't catch his name, but he went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience. Mistakes happen, but great service like that really stands out. We'll definitely be coming back! read more

A straight-up solid spot for breakfast if you're local. I rolled in and got the French Toast Combo. The French toast? Eggy as hell, and that's exactly how I like it. None of that dry, sad bread nonsense. Every bite was golden, fluffy, and soaked with just the right amount of syrup--absolute breakfast perfection. Great for my non-diagnosed pre-diabetic ahh. The service here? Always on point. Our waitress was super attentive, didn't forget a single thing, and had that genuine "we appreciate you being here" vibe. You can tell they really care about keeping you happy, which makes the whole experience even better. Price-wise? Very reasonable for the portions and quality. And that classic American diner aesthetic? Can't go wrong with it--it just feels homey and welcoming. I've only been here for breakfast, so I can't speak to lunch or dinner, but for breakfast? It's a solid go-to. If you're in Concord and want a decent breakfast spot with good vibes, Buttercup's got you. read more

This was a great stop! We are traveling and needed a good lunch. I had meat loaf which was delicious! It wasn't dry at all. It came with great homemade mashed potatoes and mixed veggies - all fresh. My husband had the chicken pot pie and a side of cheese broccoli soup. He said that soup was the best he had ever eaten. Yum! The pot pie had a nice crust that came over the dish. It was a bit on the small side but still very good. Our server was kind and attentive. Our food came out quickly. The setting is nice and comfortable. We were happy with this stop! read more

Very good home-made tasting meals! We ordered thru DoorDash because we had a gift certificate. Our orders traveled well. We had the Mom's Meatloaf and the Chicken Piccata. Again, so delicious .... At first we thought the meals were pricey, of course, when DoorDashed. But for seniors with lighter appetites, we could eat half and save the other half for another meal. So, it's a reasonable value. But we will definitely eat in at the restaurant next time, and that price point would be reasonable. The portions were generous. . The meat loaf and accompaniments were home made tasty and seasoned just right. Included fresh steamed veggies, grits (an option), soup. read more

Sometimes I need to ask, "why me". Especially when I want to go out and enjoy a nice meal. Why does the food arrive lukewarm. Why do I need to check the menu again because I thought the meal came with applesauce and I see no applesauce and the garlic mashed potatoes taste like plain mashed potatoes. Why me? Why is the meat overcooked and the vegetables undercooked. The menu stated the meal would be cooked to perfection. Why not my meal? With the exception of the lovely lady who showed me to my table, the remaining staff working that evening need to do better. I'm very sorry, I really wanted to enjoy my dining experience, but could not. read more

We must've come on the wrong day, or maybe ordering breakfast at dinner time is not a good idea here. The french toast seems as thought it was soaked in the egg batter as all you could taste was mushy eggs. Yuck! I didn't realize it until I took a bite of my kids meal and asked why he didn't say anything...he just didn't want to waste the food! Grrrrr The side bacon was cold, even some of the bacon grease had already started to solidify when it was delivered to our table. The best thing besides the water was the cup of oatmeal. That was really hot, so you had to let that sit for a little before enjoying it. The sad part about to top it off, they no longer serve cornbread! :( Sadly, not a good visit this time around. Hopefully next time we decide to come it'll be better. Be careful when ordering the French toast. read more
