This is a great bakery. There is a wonderful variety in baked goods--multiple kinds of croissants, pop tarts, 5 different kinds of cookies--the molasses was so soft and chewy--different danishes (sweet and savory), eclairs, so so much more. We particularly enjoyed the unique cacio e pepe danish and hazelnut croissant--so flaky and full of flavor. The seating is limited and we took our pastries to go, but the line wrapped in front of the display case, in front of the seating, then out the door. So to get to seats you have to break through the line if you are lucky enough to find a seat. Pricing was good--we got a big box of pastries and cookies, expected it to be much more than the $40 we paid. read more

A friend recommended stopping here for delicious pastries, and apparently so did many other friends as this place was packed! The line moved quickly and the service was friendly. We got the savory danish, chocolate croissant, and blueberry pistachio pop-tart. These pasties are not to be missed and were devoured instantly! It's a cute shop front, but we weren't able to enough since it was such a busy morning. read more

Great baked goods! I enjoy popping in when I can to get something. They are the only place around that has certain things, which is a major plus in my book. Recommendation - if you know you want some things, pre-order! You save a bit a money and you're guaranteed your products. It's a great system and wonderful to have a half dozen baked goods for the week. read more

First of all the neighborhood itself is pretty cool! Those are some friendly ass people! It was really odd just having people randomly speak to you with good mornings and positive gestures! So just alone on the neighborhood you can't go wrong! The croissants were lovely! The kiddos loved the homemade oreos as well as the cookies! Since things are "legal" there... Be careful with the cookies! They're very rich! And after ingesting so much Devil's lettuce, a stomach ache could occur when greediness leads you to eat 3 of those big cookies back-to-back! They had a Savory Danish that my cousin just loved. I only got a corner because he really wasn't trying to share. Didn't get any coffee which I hate that I didn't. Definitely going back when I go back up there next year! Hope to see them again! read more

Very frustrating because I've reviewed this place a bunch of times. In its various iterations and locations. I've been buying her things for years. But the storefront is nice. It's got a nice counter, makes easy to see things. As everyone probably knows by now, her treats are very very good. Street parking. read more

It brings me nothing but true joy to write a review for Butter Block. My heart gets excited thinking about all the delicious smells, tastes, and all the friendly faces behind that counter. I moved from Orlando, Florida a year ago and have been looking for a bakery that reminds me of the delicious tastes of Saturday morning and coffee hangs. Friends, it's here, and it's a good time. There was a long line outside but it moved quickly! They are very effective at moving through the line. You can also pre-order if you don't want to wait in line as well and walk in to pick up your goods. The best part is that in the shop while you pick out your goodies, there is a window into the back area where you can see all the treats being made. It's really neat to see the care and attention to detail with every single treat. To eat I had a few of the following: s'mores pop tart Apple fig pop tart Almond croissant Hazelnut croissant Onion Gruyere danish Grape danish Homemade Oreo Everything I put into my body was a good time and on the top of the list was the apple fig pop tart. Y'all, run to this place. It's worth the time! read more

This, hands down, THE best croissant I've ever had in my life. The review could end there, but I'll elaborate. I made my way down to Butter Block this morning after a great workout. What better way to celebrate a fantastic lift than with a croissant? Y'all, I'm not wearing socks but they would have come clean off & have found their way to Kalamazoo by now. That's how incredible this croissant is. So flaky, so buttery, just the right amount of sweet, and a heft that will leave you satisfied & wanting more at the same time. Their shop is beautiful. A clean, modern aesthetic with wood details that helps soften the edges. Very reminiscent of Overwinter in Williamsville. I found parking pretty easily in 18th Street and it wasn't a far walk to get there. I was a touch confused when my GPS gave me less than stellar directions for where Butter Block is, but I'm going to boil that down to my general unfamiliarity with the area. Their display case was fully stocked when I got their and choosing what I wanted was soooooo hard, because if I'm being honest, I would have bought one of everything. They had a MASSIVE selection if croissants to choose from: plain, almond, hazelnut, & coconut. I don't think I've ever seen so many flavours in one place. They had gourmet oreos, éclairs, buns, and a pretty awesome array of coffees & drinks, too. I'm both glad & sad that I don't live closer to Butter Block. It's definitely a place that will require planning to go to but it's good that I don't have daily access to them because I would be there every. single. day. I will 100% be back to Butter Block soon. Once you try them once, you're spoiled for life! read more

My oh my! Butter block has got the right technique and flavors for awesome pastries!! I heard they were the best in town and they sure were delicious. Morning bun: laminated dough with cinnamon sugar. Fancy version of a cinnamon roll and perfectly flavored with enough cinnamon sugar to not cover the laminated flavor. It was reminiscent of eating one of the butterfly cookies! Chocolate croissant: I was so excited for this one as I love chocolate! However, the amount of chocolate they put it in was not substantial at all. It was a tiny sliver of chocolate. The croissant itself was flakey, buttery and flavorful. I put it in the oven to reheat it and it was amazing! Sweet pastry: blueberry basil. This was so far my most favorite item. It was a sweet pastry square with a mixture of blueberry and basil filling. The filling was perfectly sweetened (as in, not that sweet) with the perfect hit of basil flavoring to make it a refreshing dessert. Super creative with the filling and I was super impressed! I have to come back for more! Advice: order online early and pick up. They only allow 4 guests inside the store at once for social distancing purposes. read more

I am obsessed with this place and can't believe that I haven't written a review yet! I first had their croissants at the Elmwood-Bidwell Farmer's market and got hooked. They are amazing and so fresh and worth the price. I have been to the actual storefront a few times now and the staff is so friendly and polite. It smells amazing outside as well. The last two Mother's Days we have pre-ordered the "bakery box" which includes a plain croissant, almond croissant, coconut cream croissant, pain au Chocolat, and one other raisin thing I'm not positive what it is. The almond croissant is the best thing I've ever eaten and I'm not even exaggerating! The almond filling is so rich and delicious. My husband is a big fan of the pop tarts, cherry is his favorite but they are all good. It's definitely worth it to pre-order as they sell out fast of many items and if you have your heart set on one thing you might be disappointed. I also tried the "morning bun" one of the last times I went which is croissant dough rolled up into a rose looking thing with cinnamon sugar on it. Delicious! I almost don't want to tell people about this place because I don't want the line to be longer or sell out even more but it's amazing! read more

This place knows what they're doing when it comes to pastries. I sampled a variety of different things here and couldn't find anything I didn't absolutely love. Some things are seasonal, but their maple bacon croissant changed my life read more

I'm pretty sure these are the best pastries in Buffalo. Period. They have a tent at the elmwood farmers market in the summers which is where I found them initially a few years ago. But I absolutely love their brick and mortar. The almond croissant and the chocolate filled pastry are my absolute go to's. Though it honestly doesn't hurt to just get a bunch and munch on all of them, not that I've don't that... anyway awesome pastries and super cool shop. A Buffalo must! read more

We are visiting the area after being in Canada, and are very happy to have found this little gem. We had latte, americano, matcha, and iced mocha all were absolutely delicious. The pastries were fresh and so very tasty. My favorite was the almond croissant! Definitely worth coming in. A little pricey, but worth it for fresh and delicious. read more

Sometimes it just fun to be a grown up! I've been eying these grown up " pop tarts" for awhile now and I finally ordered them when I saw they were accepting orders and had sold out but reopened for some more orders. I knew that was a sign. I hopped on their website, which was very easy to navigate (and I must tell you I truly want to go back and order their bread pudding next) and ordered the assortment of pop tarts. That includes 2 strawberry 2 blueberry 2 chocolate chocolate 2 brown sugar cinnamon I placed my order Wednesday late afternoon and they were ready anytime Friday after 9:00am. So I decided to go pick them up at noon. They had a really efficient set up with every order boxed and marked by the front door. The door was blocked with their sidewalk sign , and the really friendly staff was ready at the open front door to pull my order. The sidewalk was marked with foot prints to show people, if there was a line, to maintain their social distance, and the staff were all masked as well. Now on to the joys of butter.... yummmm The chocolate is super chocolaty! The strawberry was filled with strawberry jam. The blueberry was not too sweet or too tart. My favorite was the brown sugar cinnamon!! It's chewy and buttery and full of brown sugary goodness. The crust on all of them was just so darn good with that flavor of really good quality butter and flaky too. They also had Buffalo Bills special order pop tarts for the game this weekend. They have lots of other things on their menu including amazing looking croissants , plain and chocolate, Quiche Lorraine , and my next fantasy , croissant and brioche with custard , vanilla, cinnamon bread pudding!!! I would definitely recommend following them on Instagram and ordering these treats because they are very good. @butterblockbuffalo read more

I live in Seattle but my partner lives in Buffalo and I swear I come visit because I like him but also.... for Butter Block. Usually I'm in the area for 2-3 days and I try to stop by "The Block" every single day for a different treat. The pastries are SO good! As good as any pastry I've had in France. Kind staff, sweet buttery aroma, and infinite flakes. *chef's kiss* read more

My wife and I like to come here whenever we're looking for a nice (non keto) breakfast. I'm normally a huge fan of their almond pastries, but lately my new love has been the onion gruyere when I'm feeling like a savory treat instead of something sweet. Besides just pastries, they have a good selection of wonderful homemade pop tarts. Despite having a lot of choices, I can honestly say I've never had anything from here that wasn't completely amazing. We like to bring these to family events and holidays and they are a massive hit every time. Always an absolute delight, butterblock churns out top quality pastries and for my money I'm not sure you could find a better patisserie in WNY. read more

Butter Block - Onion Gruyere Croissant - Bakeries Near Me - Buffalo, New York

If I could give 6 or 7 stars, I'd give them. All the stars. This is the best bakery in Buffalo, hands down. We usually hit them up at the Elmwood Bidwell farmers market in the summer. Today we hit up the storefront to grab a holiday item- the candy candy croissant. They open at 8:00 and were sold out by 9:00 when we arrived. Heartbroken, I consoled myself with several other items. Recommendations: Literally any croissant. My favorite is the coconut. My best friend swears by the almond. My husband likes the chocolate hazelnut. Literally any of the HOMEMADE POPTARTS. Yes you read that right. Any flavor is a win, they tend to produce flavors with what's in line with the season. Today they had eggnog and gingerbread. In the summer you'll find lots of fruit flavors. Any of the bostocks or danishes. The onion gruyere is a lovely savory option. Things to know: There's always a line. And it's always big. Get in the line. Just do it, your mouth will thank you. They take cash and cards. You can pre-order croissant packs, pop tart packs and other items on their website. Please check them out if you haven't! read more

I love Butterblock and was their biggest fan when they first opened but I've noticed lately that quality and flavors are not the same as they used to be. Now it's dry, fake buttery and barely any filling ;-( I hope they can go back to how it was when they first opened. read more

Oh the croissants. The croissants! Chocolate is a treat, but the plain croissants are melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Them croissants are just *chef's kiss* and don't even get me started on their homemade Oreos!

Went here because it was highly recommended, called to make sure they were opened and was told they were baking for the next day meaning today, well went today and to begin with the steps to go in are so high that even my husband who is 6'5 said they were extremely high, then they only had 4 croissants, no muffins and only a couple of other items still very Christmas flavors. I don't recommend it and will definitely not go back. By the way the young woman behind the counter was not nice, it looked like she was mad she had to work. read more

Visiting from out of town and found these folks at the Elmwood Bidwell Farmers Market. I've learned that when you see a long line of people at a market you just join it automatically. It was not a mistake. A pop tart, a pesto tomato tart and the absolutely best cinnamon morning roll I've ever eaten proved me right. The morning bun is croissant dough with cinnamon filling and some sort of citrus glaze that was unbelievable. I would never eat a yeast cinnamon roll again if I could get these regularly. Oh well my waistline is better for it I guess. read more
