Went for the first time with a group of 9 this weekend and had the best time! It's such a cool, laid back space and atmosphere which I loved. Our instructor was Billy and thankfully he was patient with our group while we figured out what to do because it was a tough start, lol. He was also helpful in giving us tips on how to improve and have the axes stick! We were able to go at our own speed, play some games and just practice our throwing. What I really loved about this place is that you can bring in your own drinks and food! We brought some beer and wine to drink and then ordered pizza/wings that we were able to eat at the picnic table by our throwing lane. Some groups next to us really had the right idea by having catering trays and a bunch of stuff to make mixed drinks! I would definitely go back! read more

This place is pretty cool. There's games to play while waiting like giant connect four and giant jenga. The people that work there are mad cool, Gavin was the shit! Only "complaint" is having to share lanes and not being able to reserve your own lane unless you have 9people but if you're friendly it's easy to make friends and have a good time with strangers. read more

What an awesome experience, once again! Never disappointed when we come to this location. We had a group of 12 friends, alcohol, pizza, & the best time at Bury the Hatchet! Warning: get there EARLY! If you do not, you are cutting into your throwing time! We were supposed to start at 9:15pm. However, my group of friends are always fashionably late and we didn't start until 9:30pm. Luckily, our axe master, Irene, was the bomb and gave us until 11:30pm as opposed to 11:15pm. She was sooooooo much fun! She helped us with multiple games, demonstrated how to throw the axe properly, kept the group interested, and made the entire two hours fun. Christian was also super helpful at the desk & made things go smoothly with the ID's and checking in/checking out! Overall, this experience was one of the best I've had at this location. Personally, I think it's a better experience with a larger crowd, so I will be returning with a larger party again! Except this time we will be early!!!!! I've been here twice now. The place is great! I wish they served food. It's very fun. Santiago was my host. My partner and I came early and waiting for our friends, while we waited there were games we could play: pool, air hockey and connect four. Everything was done online and the waiver was conveniently able to be pulled up using a QR code. My review is based off of a company event we had on a Friday afternoon at Bury the Hatchet. Typically, Bury the Hatchet does not open to the public until 2:30pm but our event was from 1pm to 3pm. The facility is not hard to find, but you may miss it if you are not familar with the Bergen County area. It is located in a thriving area of Paramus near Paramus Park Mall, Berkely College, and a few other local hot spots. Just like most places in NJ, you can easily get to it by either Route 17 or the local streets. There is a large parking lot which provides plenty of parking to their customers. Once you arrive you will have to complete a waiver on an iPad. The front desk seems large enough to accommodate multiple people at one time. You definitely cannot tell how spacious Bury the Hatchet is from the outside. They have axe throwing stations lined against the right and left sides of the wall. There is an instructor assigned to each station who will teach you the proper way to throw the axe. Some people seem to pick it up with ease, and others simply cannot get the axe to connect to the wood. I will definitely come here again with my own friends and family because it is so much fun. P. So fun! Ive been wanting to try this for a while now, so when I came across the Groupon, I thought, let's do it! After purchasing the groupon, I called to book our time slot. The woman on the phone was very pleasant and the process itself took about 3 minutes. There were 8 of us in total that went. When we arrived, we had to fill out a waiver, and our bags were checked. Although a BYOB, hard alcohol is not allowed, so they do check your bags to make sure you aren't bringing any in. We were there to celebrate a friends birthday, so we did bring a cake and some snacks to much on, as well. There are plenty of tables, usually one right behind your board, where you can set up your food/drinks/anything else you bring. The instructor that we had was very nice, gave us a 10 minute run down on how/what/what not to do. He interacted with us, and played some fun games with us to keep the competitiveness up! Okay, let the adventure begin... Every year my Bestie talks me into things that I would never ever dream of doing. Hatchet throwing was one of those things. At first I was like, "Here we go again." We walked in and were handed a tablet. This tablet was a contract letting us know all of the liabilities. Once we signed our lives away we were directed to our area. Jason, our instructor came over and showed us the Do's and the don't's of hatching throwing. While going through the hatchet tutorial another group joined our area. Side Note: in order to have your own table you need nine or more people. Okay, back to my hatchet experience.. Jason let us practice several rounds to get the hang of it. Once he was sure that we understood, it was time to show the teacher what we learned. Jason gave us numbers and it was game time. At first I was so nerves. Jason made sure that I had proper form. As time went on I really started to enjoy throwing the hatchet with anticipation of hitting the bullseye. I missed more than I hit the target, but I did it with a smile. Jason was very patient with my group and the others that shared our table were so much fun. The competition was intense, which made it interesting and fun at the same time. Once again my Bestie took me out of my comfort zone and I had an amazing time. I do recommend you give it a try. I will be returning. read more

My friends and I came here this past weekend and we were more than pleased with our experience. Having never done this before, we didn't really know what to expect. But we were worried over nothing. It was a Saturday evening, so needless to say it was busy. But we had scheduled our appointment 2 weeks ahead on their website. We also signed our waivers online. So our check in was speedy. Just checked our IDs, and was told right where to go. When we arrived to our lane, we set up our cooler (since it's BYOB). And everyone brings something, whether drinks or food, so don't feel shy. Then our Axe Master came right over and introduced herself. Her name was Alex, and she was great. Very helpful and made the experience awesome. She gave us tips, and advice on how to perfect our throws. Because of her, we will definitely be back. Highly recommend everyone try!! read more

What a cool concept! I heard about different locations opening up and was really intrigued to try it. I was here with a large group and the "ax masters" made the process very simple. They explain things in a way that ensure the safety of everyone around and even give you tips on how to throw the ax better in order to get a bulls-eye. Once you get a hang of the process, they show you different games to play that pose greater challenges. I definitely recommend checking this place out with a group. I've always wanted to try axe throwing and now I can cross this one off the bucket list, 8 months preggers nonetheless. (No, there are no restrictions as long as your doctor clears you). Hubby and I booked a lane (2 hours standard) for about $90 to celebrate an anniversary. When I called to book, to be honest the front desk sounded pretty unprofessional, not offensive, just kept asking me to repeat everything (called from a quiet house with solid reception) and inevitably took down the wrong email address for the invoice confirmation. When we arrived at 7pm on a Saturday night, there were about 25 people gathered at the front desk. It was chaotic and unorganized, no one knew how to check in as there were no instructions given. After a 15 minute wait, we spoke to the front desk who led us to our lane and demonstrated the art of axe throwing. From there we had a great time especially when we got the hang of it, and by the looks of it so did other patrons. I still can't believe that they allow you to bring your own alcohol while throwing a sharp object but lo and behold no casualties reported. The facilities (bathroom included) were clean which is always a plus! I think this place is great for groups. Little healthy competition never hurt especially if alcohol is involved. read more

Had so much fun here today! Craig was the only person working and I was impressed by how he spent ample time with each group! He was very helpful with his tips. I've previously gone to one other Bury the Hatchet location, and found Craigs tips to be a lot more helpful! He was a really good teacher! I felt like I was *almost* a pro in no time. We walked in and were set up right away with Eddy (WHO WAS AMAZING- HE SHOULD GET A RAISE!) who helped us keep score of all our games and gave us throwing tips!!!! Clearly, giving a review without a frame of reference (throwing axes isn't something I've done before...). Nonetheless, I came here with a group of 4 at 10 am. Wasn't crowded, and the axe master was amazing. She gave quick and easy tips, allowing my entire group to pick it up quickly. They have a variety of competitive game "modes", check on you often (and provide more guidance as to throw better), and simply make the entire experience worth the money. Now, I don't know how soon I'll be back, simply because there is only so much axe throwing I want to do. And, they give you a two hour session, more than enough time! Overall, I had a great time hatchet throwing, but I think some improvements could be made! First off, check in for a large party is a bit of a nightmare, despite prepaying! It took so long for our group of 8 to fill out the waivers, and the front desk was not super helpful or friendly. That was a bit disappointing. Once we got to our lane, our instructor saved the day and was very funny and sociable - he made sure we were all having a great time. Hatchet throwing seemed way less scary/intimidating because of his enthusiasm and instruction! My main bit of feedback is around the lanes and appearance. We were paired with a group of 4, and 12 people cannot fit in a lane comfortably. Upon looking around, everyone seemed to be on top of each other with VERY minimal room to sit. As a BYOB spot, I wish we had more room for our food and drinks! The targets also appeared to be very worn out - I think they should replace them so you can at least see the numbers! The place was clean and ax throwing was a unique way to spend the evening. There was a problem with the group next to us that could have been resolved if management or the "ax master" spent time in our lane. He was often in another lane seemingly flirting with the group that had asked him to "remove his shirt" during the mini lesson he gave at the beginning. The group we shared the lane with was drunk when they started and often didn't follow the safety rules. They were getting their axes when we were throwing ours, snagged our ax out of our target when we had thrown them, threatened to cut us, beat us up, etc. When management had been notified of the situation, nothing happened except a nod in agreement that they were out of hand. This was a safety issue that was not addressed and the person who was threatening us literally had many weapons at her disposal. It was unnerving and the fact that no one cut off her alcohol consumption or addressesed her behavior is deeply concerning. While the ax throwing itself was fun, safety is a big concern. The way this situation was handled is concerning and could have ended badly. I'm not sure I would feel comfortable going back at this point in time. read more
