A frustrating experience with not being able to participate for 1/3 of the time. Would not recommend this venue. We paid for 3 people for a 1-hour session, but were told only 2 could throw at a time (2 targets in one lane) due to "corporate policy." That left each person standing around for about 20 minutes--roughly a third of the time we paid for. What makes this especially hard to justify is that the venue was nearly empty, with multiple unused lanes (including ones right next to us) sitting idle the entire time. This policy wasn't disclosed when booking, and charging per person while limiting participation like this significantly reduces the value of the service; and of course made us unhappy and unable to enjoy the experience as much. Contacting the management produced excuses but no meaningful resolution. read more

Went to BTH Paramus after a while for a friend's gathering. This is a much improved place now, with lots of bright lights, other sorts of games like pool, connect 4, air hockey and dart. Looks very cozy and fun now. The axe throw area is relatively same, with two boards and netted cage for each section. We threw axe for an hour. Some of the special weapons were fun to try. Few of them were difficult to use as the edges were broken, so they didn't penetrate the board. Post axe throw, we played connect 4 and darts for a while. Nicole was a wonderful friendly host for us. Took the dads in my life here to celebrate Father's Day (we were a group of 5). I called to booked our reservations (two of the dads are veterans and one is a firefighter); they gave us a discount for this. When we arrived, Nicole was absolutely the sweetest; thanking the for their service. Our lane wasn't ready, so we played pool until to pass the time (we arrived 20 minutes early). Jack, our coach/instructor, was extremely patient with us as we laughed and awkwardly threw the hatchets. He gave us pointers that helped improve all of our throws. Once we were comfortable with the hatches and played a game, we were able to pick other items to throw with (added on when I made the reservations). We threw ninja stars, knives, batarang, and throwing cards. Jack was again, able to coach us. After a warm up, we played another game. The winners of both games went head to head to see the ultimate winner. Once the champion was determined, he was given a trophy (also an add on). While we were there, I ordered pizza from Anthony Franco's. They delivered it with plates, napkins, cups, etc. After we were done with our games and pizza, Nicole set up balloons for us to pop with our weapon of choice. Needless to say, we will be back. Brand new business. Just opened this week. Came for a friend's birthday and this was where he picked. This is BYOB and food. Very hipster decor. If you like chopping wood and wearing flannel this is your place. Picnic tables to hang out and watch your friends get drunk and throw axes at a wall. What a concept! You rent it by the hour and you sign waivers like the kids do at trampoline parks, on an iPad. We had food delivered with Uber eats and brought coolers of beer and girly drinks. We were taught how to throw axes "correctly" and yep. There is a correct way! You will end up sweating and getting a work out! This is a pretty large place and when we were there, there was not enough people working. Leaving people to just start throwing axes before anyone told us the "rules." The rules are basically, don't throw axes at the same time. Move away from the person throwing the axe. There was lots of girls here too and I'd say this is best for groups of friends because it's pretty entertaining watching a very girly girl throw an axe or a strong guy think he can throw an axe and suck. Great experience here for our company team building event. Super accommodating since we were running late from lunch. They have a few different types of axes to throw. Our axe master, Ace, was so friendly and helpful to us. He took his time to go through safety and how to procedure. This place was so much fun! Came here to celebrate my birthday. We brought our own drinks and food. They did have to hold my Rum coz they don't allow hard liquor but it doesn't say it online. I think they should update that, but it's not the biggest deal in the world. They have picnic table to put all your food and drinks. Don't forget your plates and cups. Came here last night to celebrate my sisters birthday. For 2 hours with a private lane for 11 people was about $42 each which isn't bad all. We really enjoyed our time and liked that it was BYOB and BYOF. It's a great location to celebrate a birthday or any occasion, or just a fun night with friends. Reservations are required so be sure to book online or over the phone. Be aware, parking gets a little tough since there's very limited spots in front of the actual location. For a shorter walk, park in front of Gold's gym. The lot is huge, and there's plenty of parking on the opposite side as well. However, I'm sure during 25 degree weather parking closer is better especially if you have a few cases of beer you're holding. Checking in they advise that you come in at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time. You must sign a waiver prior to starting. They also take a quick look at the liquor you have brought in. I thought the waiver process was a bit chaotic and disorganized. Unfortunately that isn't where the disorganization ended. When our party went to our lane at around 9:10 our table was filthy with cups and spilled drinks all over the table. At 9:15 when we were supposed to begin, I had to ask one of the axe masters to clean our table. We began shortly after our scheduled time where the axe master showed us the basics of axe throwing and giving everyone a chance to practice. After everyone had a turn, we began a game. My sister and I thought the overall experience could have been better if the axe master was more engaging and had better games for us to play. He looked like he had a miserable time being there and never helped us to correct our form or give us tips to improve. I don't know if it was our specific axe master or if it's just this location but they really should hire people that are more engaging with parties. read more

Well, the evening was amazing. We had 4 lanes and 4 awesome axe-ineers overseeing us. (One per lane). Ace, Nick, Kim and Gary gave constructive criticism to get everyone motivated and then kept the games moving. They were energetic and fun. The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is that booking for such a large party has two issues: 1. The best price they would give me for 40 people, matched the price they were offering on Groupon for 12 people. It seems that there should be some kind of super-bulk discount. 2. Must say, I had a great time at Bury the Hatchet. Who knew hatchet throwing could be this fun. It was my first time ever throwing hatchets and my first throw was a bullseye thanks to the brief training a worker named Pedro gave me. Don't get me wrong, your going to miss a lot and not connect properly with the wooden targets but that's part of the fun. Oh and some of the staff are hilarious because they yell out "Bullseyeeee!" after each time you hit the bullseye. They will also keep score on an app for you if you want to have competitions against each other whether it's one on one or group against group. They first teach you to throw with two hands which is definitely the easiest way to hit the target but they also teach you how to throw one handed and throwing the hatchet upside down. I had the pleasure of being taught these other two techniques by a lovely worker named Jymis :) , she was a great instructor and I learned how to improve my throwing skills thanks to her. Overall It was a great experience and the entire staff was very friendly. I will definitely be coming back here again. FYI It's also BYOB!! It's a bit chaotic when you enter the place, though they do their best to get everybody signed in, checked in and ready to go. Our guy, Nick, was funny, patient and simply awesome. He put up with our group of 20, made sure each one of us had a turn, gave great tips on proper axe-throwing techniques and made our whole evening fun! Each lane comes with it's own picnic table so you can bring food and booze in. They do not allow hard liquor like vodka and tequila for obvious reasons. Went for the first time with a group of 9 this weekend and had the best time! It's such a cool, laid back space and atmosphere which I loved. Our instructor was Billy and thankfully he was patient with our group while we figured out what to do because it was a tough start, lol. He was also helpful in giving us tips on how to improve and have the axes stick! We were able to go at our own speed, play some games and just practice our throwing. What I really loved about this place is that you can bring in your own drinks and food! We brought some beer and wine to drink and then ordered pizza/wings that we were able to eat at the picnic table by our throwing lane.
