I was def better with 2 hands than 1 (pretty sure I didn't land a single axe with 1 hand), but it seems I found my calling with the underhand throw. Apparently that's usually the technique people take a longer time to get the hang of, but it came much more natural to me than the other 2. Officially dubbed The Underhand Queen . The food was a nice bonus too. The flatbread pizza was good and I enjoyed my cocktail. The lamb sandwich was also nice, with warm spices that really came through. Our server Karen was super sweet and helpful. Overall the axe throwing was genuinely a lot of fun. Truly a great date night...even as our competitive natures took over. There were 11 of us, so we booked the "Grand Theft Jersey City" room at 4pm because it was the only room that accommodated more than 8 people. The last two of our players showed up 45 minutes after our booked time because of traffic. The employees were nice enough to let us start late, but said they'd have to cut 10 minutes off our time because there was another group starting at 6pm and they needed time to reset the room. That was fair, and letting us even start that late was nice of them. Before we started, one employee thoroughly explained the rules and our objective in order to escape the room: Steal as much money as you can (up to $1B) and crack the code to get out. As for the actual room experience, I thought there were plenty of puzzles for all 11 of us to work on without getting bored or feeling useless. There were even "extra credit" puzzles that weren't there to help you escape, but they added a lot to the "stolen money" value. My group didn't get any of the extra credit ones, but if you try this place out and not get the extra credit stuff, you'll feel really dumb afterwards when they explain it to you lol. I've done two other escape games before (escaped them both too! woot woot!), and based on my experiences - the less people, the better and more fun. The more people you go with, the more chaos that ensues! Overall, I thought it was cool and I'd probably come back to try out Architect's Room (2-6 players).

THREE separate times, the guy had to come in to fix something that was broken or not working (computer wouldn't work, something wasn't plugged in that should have been, one of the locks on a box was literally not able to turn the letters), and when we put the objects in place at the end, whatever was supposed to happen didn't. The guy was like "Well.. something is supposed to be happening right now to show you won but.. it's not." Lots of time wasted on trying to figure things out when something was just broken and not working. I brought my friend who had never done an escape room before and felt embarrassed this was her first experience because it was so bad. The only thing that would have been worse would be if we didn't make it out. Some of the clues were redundant, the answers to puzzles were written on stuff from previous people who had done the room, magnets were missing from one of the boards. One part requiring a light was so dim it was barely visible at all. Guy didn't even offer to take our picture at the end. Very low tech and low immersion. I can't believe for $50 / person we got something I could have done on my phone. Only reason I'm giving it one star is because the website (which for some reason defaulted to booking 8 days in the future) messed up and the guy on the phone (who admitted it happened quite often) was able to get someone to come in that night on short notice. I brought him a cookie to apologize for making him come in. If you're an escape room vet, this room is terrible. If you're a beginner, this room is terrible. Do not let this location sour your joy of escape rooms with its overpriced, shoddily decorated simple logic puzzles. DO. NOT. GO. HERE

All was good except the nachos. Skip it. After a game of bowling, some of us stayed and did some karaoke. Personally think this is a good place to bowl, sing, and do other things like pingpong and pool, but the location is not ideal. Port authority gets really sketchy after dark. My one complaint about the play area was that the tee was very flimsy and had a small base, so it kept popping through the hole in the Astroturf and would need to be replaced. Our server was excellent and continued to check on our needs throughout the evening, which also included some of their excellent food. The Boneless Wings were available with a bunch of sauces, but we had opted for the Buffalo variety, which were spicy, crispy, and delicious. The Detroit-style, deep-dish Cheese Pizza had an excellent tomato sauce that was heavily seasoned with basil. The pizza had been cooked in a small rectangular pan, making sure that each slice had at least one crispy edge. The slices reminded me a bit of cafeteria pizza that had been jazzed up with tons of flavor. Lastly, the thin, crispy, and well-salted Fries were great and came with rosemary aioli and honey dijon mustard dipping sauces. They made the birthday boy feel special throughout the whole party, ensuring he got to practice batting in a spot where all the parents could cheer him on, letting him lead the charge in glow-in-the dark tag, and having him go first with all of the activities. Several of the parents watched in awe as their kids learned batting techniques and improved their skills in a matter of minutes with proper positioning and guidance from the coaches. I've never seen such energy from a group of kids! They had amazing games and relay races set up to entertain the kids and I overheard many parents commenting about how this was the least stressful birthday party because they were able to sit back, relax and socialize while all the kids were entertained, safe and having a blast. It was almost hard to get the kids to come over for cake and many of them didn't want to leave when the party was over! The ladies helping with the event piece were amazing. From helping to set-up to serving food, I was impressed by their professionalism and thoughtfulness throughout the event. They even helped us pack up all of our stuff at the end of the party - something they didn't need to do, but they went above and beyond and it was so appreciated.
