See my separate review of this wonderful musical performance. The Scarlet Oak Tavern is situated in an historic colonial house that has a fireplace and outdoor seating. The atmosphere here is always charming, wide plank wooden floors, cozy rooms, and plenty of them, and a charming bar. The servers are always polite and smiling. I have been here many times over the years with many different people, friends and family and it is fairly consistently wonderful. I don't recall having a bad meal here ever. There is a lovely room that has a fireplace when you first enter the establishment. It is especially nice in the winter when the fire is roaring and we have a toasty drink to make everything extra cozy. However, it is equally pleasant in May! My sister and I shared several appetizers, which together constituted a delicious meal for each of us. We ordered an appetizer called Bourbon Brown Sugar BBQ Ribs that came with four very meaty flavorful ribs. We ordered two separate sides of the delicious mashed potatoes that they serve at this establishment. We also ordered one very large crab cake appetizer we ate the crabcake first. We then placed the ribs on top of the mashed potatoes with a couple of the delicious pickles that were served with the ribs. It was absolutely scrumptious. See the photo! For dessert, I ordered a flourless Flourless Chocolate Cake with crumbled peanut brittle served with a generous scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. The cake was moist and delicious with almost a rich pudding consistency inside it contrasted amazingly well with a flavorful crunchy topping of peanut brittle and a smooth cold refreshing mound of ice cream. In a word this dessert was as maddeningly delicious as it sounds. Highly recommend!

We were first served a basket of complimentary warm cornbread with butter. Delicious! We each had a glass of red wine with our brie & carmelized onion burger. The burger was cooked to a perfect medium, as requested. Unfortunately, the service wasn't quite as good as the food. We requested side salads in lieu of fries & were not told there would be a $5 upcharge (each!). We also asked for our dressing to be on the side; it wasn't. Luckily, the salad wasn't heavily dressed so it was edible. The craisons & fried shallots were a nice touch. I had an Affogato for dessert & it was brought out with a candle & a "happy birthday" chocolate disc. My friend was charged twice on her credit card for this meal. We were told the extraneous charge had been removed at the restaurant, but it wasn't. My friend had to resolve it with her credit card company the next day. Atmosphere & food - 5 stars. Service - 3 stars.

What I didn't like as much: The Sultan was great but I quickly realized that it didn't come out as hot in temp as the chicken & waffles & the corned beef hash. I'm a temperature girlie & like my food on the hotter side but the dish was warm at best. With that being said, the flavors & food still tasted good but I think I would've enjoyed it a teensy bit more if it was hotter. Rafiki's coconuts was the drink I personally got & it was okay but not that great. It was a more watery coffee, even with one shot of espresso (not that big of a glass). Coconut espresso flavors didn't come out as much as I would've liked/hoped for. Overall, we did really enjoy having breakfast at Yaz's Table. I'm not even a breakfast/brunch food type of gal but I liked the food here. The mushroom risotto in the scallops and risotto was very tasty, but the scallops themselves were not worth eating. They had been seared, but then served on the plate sitting in liquid so they were just soggy and chewy. I took them home and literally gave them to the dogs. The cod with basil pesto was similarly bad. The cod was overcooked, the pesto strangely blah, and everything was sitting on mashed potatoes so it was just mushy on top of mushy. We actually added salt at the table - something we never do - to try to make it taste better. Didn't really help, unfortunately. We tried to salvage the meal with the warm flourless chocolate cake. This was so overbaked that the ice cream couldn't save it. Cheever Tavern - please do better! We need a consistently good place in Norwell!

In warmer weather there's a nice selection of outdoor dining but year round the bar and dining room offer an elevated feel. I recommend the bread along with dumplings as they are my two favorites while my wife found her most recent scallops dish to be excellent. Their drinks menu is substantial with a favorite of mine being their martini selection.

Besides our waitress stumbling around our table, drunk, the food was good! At first she seemed really nice and attentive...a little too attentive. My friends and I decided to meet up and have dinner, one being from out of town, so we had plenty of time to catch up.... As the night progressed, from overly attentive, to trying to find someone just to give me water (I was 7 months pregnant at the time), our waitress slowly became a mean, angry drunk....It was almost like we were bothering her. After complaining about her 1 year old, for the first 10 minutes of table talk, she proceeded to take our order. She then brought my 2 girlfriends their first 2 of a total of 4 glasses of wine ordered the entire night. After being rushed through our appetizers, served our main course, and not being able to find her to order anything else, we were greeted with a bill for some additional food we did not order, and 7 glasses of wine (the wrong kind of wine rang in). We realized that she was progressively worse as the night went on. We were trying to be cool, seeing that she was a single mother with a 1 year old daughter to support. We figured, lets give her the benefit of the doubt. You never know what someone is going through in their life....maybe she is having a bad day. After we asked her to fix the bill, she returned to the table with a bill for $18 (our original bill she provided us was $166). LOL I ended up getting a manager, having them fix the bill, and we paid and left. I pray that girl found some help with her problem, and they found a new server. Management was very accomodating....that is why they get 2 stars. read more

My male partner and I stopped in for lunch but we quickly left the restaurant even before we had a chance to order our drinks. The hostess and waitress were both pleasant and accommodating. Our waitress asked for my drivers license to verify our age but she wanted to take my ID to the back room to verify it. I expressed my concern about my ID leaving my table due to the high risk of identity theft in this day and age. The waitress said she could have her GM come to the table to verify it. When the general manager Elena came over to my table, she became upset at the fact that I didn't want my ID leaving my table. Elena the GM slammed my ID on the table and stormed away to the back of the restaurant. She took her time, but she eventually came back to my table with an ID verification book. She verified the accuracy of my ID, but as she was leaving she said thank you ladies and gentlemen. Was she insinuating that I was a female or a transgender person? I'm sorry but I was born a male and I have never been anything else otherwise. As we were leaving Burton's Grill, Elena loudly told her hostess, "I don't know why they act that way". My partner and I decided to go to the restaurant a few doors down and we had a lovely meal at Rustic Kitchen. read more

This is a very classy, modern restaurant. The seats at the booth were clean! We had ordered a calamari for appetizer. The squid is definitely fresh. They seasoned the calamari to perfection. The fried peppers that comes with the dish are great. I ordered the fish tacos and that tasted amazing. The rices that comes with the dish is unbelievably good. My husband's fish sandwich was interesting. The fried fish was so big that it was very awkward to sandwich it between the buns. It tasted very good. I was disappointed that they did not have the raspberry creme brulee. I actually came for that purpose. I had the chocolate creme brulee. I am not a big fan of chocolate but it was pretty good for what it was. I would definitely recommend the chocolate creme brulee for those who really like chocolate. The food did not take that long to come out. That herb butter served at the beginning of the meal is so savory. That was very unique. My server was friendly but she disappeared towards the end of our meal. That is okay since she was very nice and thoughtful. She also acknowledged my allergy to shellfish. I love Burton's Grill... Particularly their Derby St location. I have severe Gluten and Dairy allergies but never have to worry about cross contamination. The wait-staff is well versed on ingredients and food preparation, and when they're not sure, they go back to the kitchen to ask. Allergy meals always come on square plates, hand delivered by a manager, so I always know I'm safe. There's always several items on the menu (a separate GF menu) for me to choose from and they're happy to adapt dishes to meet my needs (the short ribs are fantastic). They even have gf/df rolls that are delicious. read more

I completely disagree with Emily M.'s review. I have been to Burton's numerous times and each time it gets better. The food and service are phenomenal. The burger is the best I've ever had! They have a wide variety of delicious appetizers as well as entrees that can accommodate the any appetite. I recommend the Risotto Fritters to start with the Cobb salad. The seasonal drinks as well as a wide selection of beer and wine only add to the impeccable menu service and environment. I love Burton's- in fact I'm going there tonight! read more

The food is always consistent. Maybe varies by 10-15%. But essentially will always be spot on. Service is average based on how busy it is. If your waitress smokes, she might disappear. Last night I had special HADDOCK OSCAR .. out of this world and he had the seafood casserole from the regular menu! Both were a 10!! Kelly was our server and she was spot on as always! Great family-owned restaurant sitting right across from the ocean!! They have the fireplace going every night. Warm, cozy and great food what else could one ask for? The first time, I had the baked scallop (day's specialty) and they were perfectly delicious! The second visit I had the pan-seared scallops [the special for the day], and OMG!! They were absolutely perfect!! In addition to the food being so great, other remarkable aspects to this restaurant: excellent service, free (close by) parking, AND, an unobstructed view of the ocean! I have recommended the restaurant to several friends and family members. I am actually already planning on visiting again within the next few days!!

Keeping it simple..we give all restaurants 3 tries and this one struck out. His prime rib was just ok and my broiled seafood casserole was also just fair. Service was good and the place was packed. Still not sure what the big draw is to this place but we are done. There are so many wonderful restaurants around us with much better food.

After a refreshing stroll around World's End, we happened upon Corner Stop Eatery for a nice early…read moredinner. Nestled into a nice granite cliff, this restaurant features its own large parking lot. The restaurant is really beautiful inside and the building allows a lot of lovely sunlight to come in. Our server was super nice and very accommodating, he checked on us frequently and really made us feel at home. He seemed genuinely enthusiastic about serving and providing us the best experience possible! The south shore oyster is so good. I loved how huge and juicy it was. It was the standout of the evening for me. They also had a nice cider selection and I quite enjoyed the north hudson cider. We got the niman ranch burgers and they were so good and perfectly done. This is the perfect spot to take someone you want to impress, for an anniversary dinner or dinner with in-laws :). We chose the key lime pie for dessert, which delighted our server. He shared with us that this was described as a "death row dessert" by a previous patron. It truly was quite good, and an exemplary example of a key lime pie! The whipped cream was also extremely good. A wonderful little hidden gem in Cohasset! A must-enjoy if you find yourself in this part of the south shore!

The appetizer options were plentiful and definitely recommend the flatbreads. We had the Wild Mushroom that had a heavy dose of the kale-basil drizzle. And it's a big round pizza, not one of the typical small rectangles that get downsized for apps. The "Seriously Roasted Brussels Sprouts" were indeed well roasted and had a generous amount of bacon mixed in. So good for those where bacon is always a plus, not so much for vegetarians. I opted for the scallops as my partner doesn't care for them so I don't fix them at home. They were excellent and come typically littleneck clams. They were out that night so substitute 3 big shrimp. All for shrimp and good size but definitely overcooked. It was all served on top of a bowlful of corn chowder with potato. Thinner than a chowder frankly but it was a nice combo of flavors for the underlying carb. If there was a downside it was the room. There are multiple but we ended up in the bar area with the towering ceiling that made it really loud. Great that there was some sort of locals celebration at the bar but their volume completely dominated the room so it was hard to hear among the four of us who were a distance away.
