Buffalo chicken dip...The best of all time, place is a bit pricey but good atmosphere for being in a strip mall.

My husband and I visited Burton's Grill in Hingham today at about 2:00. The place was crowded and we were greeted at the door by the hostess who said there would be a 10 minute wait. We were seated about 10 minutes later :) As we were having a cocktail before ordering our meals, 2 women with a young child were seated next to us. Within a few minutes the child began to cry. Not a simple cry but a screeching screaming cry. Although the women were oblivious to the crying child, the Manager, Steve, was not. He promptly came to our table and told us that he had a booth for us (we did not ask for it) We both really appreciated this. We love kids but have not been out together in a very long time and had we not been relocated, this would have been unpleasant to say the least. The rolls and butter were very good - nice and soft and butter had a garlic taste to it. We ordered Buffalo Chicken dip for an appetizer...DELICIOUS ! Then our burgers arrived. Again - DELICIOUS. Haven't had a burger this good in along time. Cooked just the way we ordered and served with crispy seasoned fries. Good sized portion which is a plus for my husband who has a healthy appetite :) We had a great time....food was very good-atmosphere was very comfortable-Wait staff was friendly and attentive. We will most definitely be returning to Burton's Grill very soon. read more

We were exited about returning to Burtons having had a great experience the last time. When we walked in, we were totally ignored by two hostesses and stood by while they assisted the people that they knew who were behind us. Once seated, however, all was fine until the waitress forgot my friend's coffee, then forgot my coffee........this was after 10 minutes and several attempts at flagging her down. Apologies were given, but the service and food and total experience was not such that we will return any time quickly. This was a dual birthday luncheon and they would not honor two coupons for a free appetizer each. Most establishments would make an exception to keep the customer happy. Also, the prices are a bit high. There are so many other similar restaurants that are so much better. Sorry, Burtons. read more

Good food and good drinks (lots of martini options!). Plenty of bar seating if you want to dine while watching the game. The food was good but didn't completely WOW me. I may have to go back to try a few more dishes. We ordered two fo the specials - stuffed pork chop with manchego cheese, roasted peppers and oregano and wrapped in prosciutto, served over a polenta cake and the stuffed flounder with lobster and crab. I don't remember seeing any lobster in the barely there stuffing. The pork chop was the winner of the two. I forget the name of the dessert -- chocolate chip ice cream with some marshmellows. If anyone came to the South Shore and asked me to take them out for a great meal, Burton's would be on the list. It's got an urban feel to it that most restaurants don't have around this area. It's always busy but never overcrowded. I went for lunch yesterday and got the clam chowder and the Grilled Zucchini appetizer, which was amazing. They seemed to be out of everything we ordered, but it happens. As a former waitress I know that things seem to run out just as someone orders them, and there really isn't anything you can do besides apologize. So anyway, we ordered what we wanted second-most on the menu, which is very nice, by the way. There is a nice assortment of sandwiches, salads, entrees, and appetizers. The menu resembles something you might see at 99s or your local sports bar. But since they turn the lights down low, have a wine menu instead of a bar menu (and for that matter, don't have any beers on tap!?), they're allowed to charge much more than the 99s or your local sports bar would. I've been back to Burton's a few times. The food is ALWAYS amazing and up until this weekend I have never had anything but great service. Yesterday however, was a different story. From the second we walked in, we could sense that the staff was flustered. Maybe they weren't expecting it to be busy, but they certainly didn't seem to be understaffed. If anything, I think they had too many people on but it seemed as if it was every single one of their first days. No one smiled, everyone seemed very out of sorts. I'm giving this rating 3 stars because although the service was lacking, the food was still spot on. I don't think it's possible to get a bad meal here! My boyfriend and I shared a little bit of everything. The soup of the day was crab bisque which was the best I've ever had. A must order every time we go is the Baked Stuffed Zucchini appetizer... the only issue with it this time was that it was cold. We ordered it to come out with an entrée, the Haddock Imperial which was pretty good (crab stuffed haddock), and we think the waitress forgot to course out the meal (i.e. tell the kitchen that we wanted the appetizer with the entrée). If you're looking for a salad, try the Mediterranean Salad... it's delicious! Again, I really love this place but the service last night was subpar. Hopefully it was just a fluke! read more

I have been to this location twice and have been pleased with the food both times. The only thing that I will say is that service can be a bit slow. It's definitely a plus that they space courses, but sometimes the lag between seemed overly long. Crab Cakes - Definitely worthwhile. Mostly crab, very little filler. Firecracker Shrimp - Large, about six to an app, very good. Calamari - Standard, but great dipping sauce. Burger - No real commentary from the two at the table that ordered burgers, but no news is good news? Both people ate the full thing. Dessert - The special of the night was an ice cream sundae. Very big and very good. Just a tip... If you're a beer drinker, it's all bottled. Nothing on tap. read more

Burton's to me is a very typical upper mid end restraunt. Fairly decent wine list they do use fairly good cuts of meat for their steak. If you are looking for a diverse menu with lots of different options this probably isn't your place. But if you are looking for a good steak with good service than this place maybe for you. The sides with the steak were kinda bland as was the caesar salad I started my dinner with. The waitstaff were knowledgeable and helpful. read more

This was my second time at a Burtons, my first time being at the Burlington location. I did not like my experience at the other location, but I wanted to give Burtons another chance. With a friend, I had the risotto fritters, steak frites, haddock imperail, and rasperry chocolate cake. All tasted delicious and well worth the bill. The service was top-notch. Burtons Grill proved to be more upscale than expected...the items on their menu are set at high prices, and I haven't decided if I think the quality matches. It was pretty crowded on the Thursday evening that my date and I went; so we grabbed a couple drinks at the bar. My lemon drop martini was very good, but was priced at city prices. The staff is very nice here, and they are trained well. Once seated, we ordered two appetizers: the Firecracker Shrimp and the Sesame Crusted Tuna. The shrimp included "rock shrimp lightly breaded and fried, tossed in a spicy aioli sauce, topped with creamy ranch dressing and blue cheese crumbles, served on a blue corn tostado" for $10.95. The tuna included "seared and chilled, served rare with spicy cucumber salad, wasabi, pickled ginger and ponzu sauce" for $12.95. I was underwhelmed by the appetizers and had different qualms about each. I thought the blue cheese was an odd pairing with the balls of shrimp, and I thought the tuna was seared for too long. However, I enjoyed the entree that we split. We shared the Lobster and Shrimp Pasta ($25.95), which included "jumbo shrimp and lobster sautéed with sugar-snap peas, fresh tomatoes, seasonings and reggiano parmesan, with a touch of light cream." I really loved the lobster and shrimp as well as the sauce and pasta. They also paired well with the complimentary rolls and whipped butter. Burtons is rather expensive for a regular night out, but my overall opinion is that it's "A-OK." I also think it's interesting that they have Monthly Specials on their menu rather than nightly or weekly specials. Treat yourself to Burtons if you're in the area, but maybe stick to just drinks and entrees. read more

Summary: Burtons is a great place for a good meal in a nicer atmosphere. More: We finally tried Burton's this week. It's been on the list for a while, but we somehow hadn't gotten to it. When you walk into Burton's you can immediately get the feeling that you in a nicer steak house (don't fear, there are many other great items on the menu). The interior decor is a step up from other local restaurants. The bar area was buzzing during our week day visit. There was a 20 minute wait, but with the Apple Store and Barnes and Nobel on either side, this or likely the longer wait on a weekend would be a non-issue. The restaurant is a bit loud, perhaps this isn't something they can control with sound deadening materials. It just might be the nature of a restaurant of this type. The staff was very friendly and helpful. You expect this given the setting and the price range, but sometimes it just doesn't work out that way. Our waitress was very helpful and friendly when we ordered and when we were wrapping up. The food was outstanding. We had the Salmon special and the Scallops. The side items were outstanding, everything was fresh, cooked properly / as requested, and seasoned well. While we can't review the steaks (likely a focus for many visiting), we have some friends who visited a month ago and they had positive reviews of the steaks. Great place, prices seem a bit high, but not for the food and experience. read more

Finally made it here for dinner, and it was very good. We had steaks for our entrees and I think that is the way to go if you are a carnivore. I had a NY Strip with asparagus and baked sweet potato (served with a brown sugar butter). My husband had the special which was NY Strip with mushroom risotto and a salad of pea shoots. Our starters were gazpacho for me and a mango, avocado, and pea shoot salad for my husband. Lots of pea shoots -- good thing we love them. Good eats all around. Service was better than previous visits so I have to give them an extra star for that, especially since we had our 4 year old with us. No kids menu (at least we were not provided with one), which is fine but I noticed lots of groups with young children. I guess it isn't worth the hassle for them. Too bad. Based on my experiences eating at Burton's grill I have nothing but good things to say about the food, decor and service. The Steaks here are excellent, I would recommend a burger and they have a good selection of wines. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and a good friend of mine worked for them for many years and says they are a great employer to work for. It can be somewhat pricy but believe me, you get more than what you pay for here. read more

Well intentioned staff could use better training. Following a full glass beer spill into the lap of my lunch partner, things were partially mopped up by our very apologetic server using our napkins. A second staff person brought us a small stack of cocktail napkins which we were left with to finish cleaning up the table and chair ourselves. At least they took away the wet napkin items! Our napkin and small plate set ups were never replaced so we stole some off the nearby table. Eventually a third person approached with a dry cleaning offer if we brought the receipt in. As we drove over an hour to shop at Derby Street we laughed that off. Restaurant spillage is fairly common so we would recommend better rescue operations in place. Food is decent. But, it becomes kind of too pricey for lunch now. Otherwise, I would rate it better.

Still enjoy dining here, but so disappointed in the fish tacos. Cold tortillas?!!? Warming them takes minimal effort (ideally they'd be grilled, but no excuse for cold). And they're also too thick - the tortilla overwhelms the fish so much so that I ended up eating the fish alone (no longer a taco). And finally, the tacos are flavorless - how about adding jalapeño or a chipotle sour crema? I am THRILLED they finally got rid of the Disneyesque abstract wall treatment above the wainscoting - I could never understand it. They really did a lovely job updating the space - new light fixtures, art work, paint etc.. read more

We have eaten here about a half dozen times, usually lunch after shopping the Derby Shops but dinner once. The burgers and fries are pretyy good but the rest of the menu is pretty uninspired, The ambiance and service is good but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. We always eat at the bar and the bar is fairly small so it has always been a challenge getting seated. It probably is the best restaurant in the Derby Shops though. read more

We stopped here for lunch on the way from the Cape to Boston on the advice of friends. The Mediterranean Chicken Risotto was simply excellent and more than enough for lunch. I don't understand all the rave reviews. My family and I went here last night, and it was fair at best. Service was very slow. Menu was more like a lunch menu--not only were the choices pretty dull, the menu itself was cheap and unattractive. We thought we were going out for a nice dinner, but most of us ended up with a hamburger since there was nothing particularly "nice" to eat. The burgers were fine, but nothing special. The fries were good! Service was so slow and our server so disinterested that we didn't even ask to see the dessert menu. Won't go back. read more

Gluten free menu=awesome. I had a fish sandwich, which I haven't had in a long time since finding out I have a gluten intolerance. They are really good about making sure you are comfortable with the menu and explaining how the food comes out on different plates and everything. Maybe this will say a lot: I used to work at this restaurant, for a long time, and it's STILL my favorite place to eat. Every other food establishment I've worked at before has been "ruined" for me after seeing how clean the kitchen and employees are NOT. But Burton's is different. Bottom line, they are top-notch. In service, cleanliness, consistency, food, ingredients....everything. Highest standards all around and it really shows. They are popular for a reason. Go get a burger for lunch and some seafood & salad for dinner. A wilted piece of lettuce wouldn't be caught dead in this place. read more
