Pitcher of Autumn Spiced Sangria
Nana C.

We sat at a hi-top in the bar area by the windows; football was on the tv, and the background music was soft. The Autumn Spiced Sangria was perfect for the gloomy, rainy, almost fall night. The Butternut Squash Flatbread, also on the Oktoberfest menu, was sweet and savory with roasted squash, Brussels sprouts, and a balsamic glaze. The toppings overwhelmed the flavor of the sage-pecan pesto. The flatbread had a nice crusty edge, but the dough was undercooked on the leftover pieces that I brought home. The Waldorf Salad was a nice mix of flavors, crunchy apples, nuts, and warm chicken. Service was friendly and prompt but I was surprised that our server didn't ask if we wanted the signature NYAJ bread and oil. We've been going to Not Your Average Joe's for many years but had never tried the Oktoberfest menu. It's only there for a limited time; check it out.

Extremely friendly and extremely slow service. Cauliflower appetizer was super salty. Not my Average Joe's, brother...

Braised brats? How about burnt. How does this come out of a kitchen?
Paul K.

The service is always excellent but the quality control and consistency of the food has gone way downhill over the years. Today I ordered the brat special that was to be braised. They came out completely burnt. The photo says it all. We also ordered the chicken piccata. What we received was two pieces of fried chicken and a side of pasta the had the capers and piccata sauce in it. In the past few years when ordering pizza it was always hit or miss. It's stinks to see the restaurant slowly get worse and worse.

Really Bad Food Quality.. My family ordered a few small pizzas and some gluten free rolls for our son who has a gluten allergy. We ordered three sides of the rolls where they were completely stale I mean really bad almost moldy where my wife and I were surprised they would even serve them like that so we threw them all out. The pizza was not even that good and Uber Eats did not even refund us for the rolls. No big deal not much money but we would never eat here again that is for sure.

Not Your Average Joe's is just above average due to the awesome service by our waitress Meaghan. Meaghan is the best. Refilled our drinks before we asked. Friendly, attentive, professional and polite. The restaurant is clean. Well lit since the last time we went before the pandemic. The Bread with olive oil to start is one of the best any restaurants have served. The food is Okay. A bit on the expensive side. Taste great. Ordered the Cobb salad with chicken and the ahi poke bowl. On the small size for the price. Plenty of chicken with the Cobb salad. Not much ahi in the poke bowl. About 6 cubes.

Went here during covid, when the weather was getting a bit cooler. The staff had masks, tables were spaced appropriately and them seemed to be following the covid protocols. We did call ahead for a reservation as they get booked up pretty quick. Luckily they are still serving the bread, yum. We had a view of the reservoir from our table which was nice. Food was decent, and my husband is now trying to replicate their mustard chicken. Like most places, they seem to have a smaller menu due to covid, but was easy to find something to eat!

Fast friendly service; menu changes since last time I was here but hoping the food is still as good. Food was disappointing; very bland. Our service went down hill quick as well to the point we had to ask another waiter to get our server after waiting to pay our bill for ten minutes. The fries were the best thing but couldn't get ketchup

Yum! Seafood Alfredo and baked four cheese al forno
Shelly Y.

Aw Joe! You are definitely not average! Right brain and I were visiting family and happened on this eatery. First off the coffee was amazing, hot and full bodied. Right brain ordered the baked four cheese al forno, filling, tasty and cooked al dente. I ordered the seafood al fredo. The shrimps were large, portobello mushrooms large and copious. Pasta al dente. What was super good was the orange zest in the lobster sauce, mmmm! Nice place to stop on our way to Ptown

Very slow service and mediocre food. The highlight were the ahi wontons. The jambalaya had zero taste.

We came with a large group, and let's be honest, that can go left real quick at most places...not here. The service was seamless, attentive, and genuinely warm from start to finish. No one was forgotten, no order was mixed up, no delays...just top tier customer service across the board. Now let's talk about the food...because wow. The bread basket came out fresh and warm (dangerously good), and set the tone immediately. I had the stuffed fish, and it was cooked to perfection--flavorful, well seasoned, and not heavy at all. Paired it with a fresh salad tossed in a mustard vinaigrette that was light, tangy, and just right. And the mocktails? So good. Crafted beautifully, refreshing, and not an afterthought like some places make them feel. What I love most is the consistency. Whether it's date night, a casual dinner, or a big group outing, Burtons shows up every single time. Great food, amazing service, and an experience that just feels easy. 10/10...every time.

AHI TUNA BOWL - $28 This was one of the most disappointing…read moredishes I've had in a long time. The "togarashi-crusted" tuna was not crusted at all--completely bland, with no seasoning or flavor. It tasted like it had been frozen, thawed, and simply dropped into the bowl. The rest of the ingredients were just as underwhelming. Everything was placed in separate, unappealing mounds around the bowl: a pile of tasteless sushi rice with a few sesame seeds, hard and underripe avocados chunks, unseasoned raw shredded carrots, smashed vinegar cucumbers with no trace of cilantro and beside that were the overpowering pickled red onions. To make matters worse, it all sat awkwardly on top of a mayonnaise ginger-soy aioli that did nothing to bring the dish together. There was no balance, no cohesion, and absolutely no flavor. It looked unappetizing and tasted even worse. I barely touched it. The server never asked why, and even if she had, I was with coworkers and wouldn't have felt comfortable saying how bad it was. For $28, this was unacceptable. Honestly, it felt like something a child threw together--bland, poorly executed, and completely lacking care. Would not order again.

The menu offers a great variety, with a mix of both sweet and savory items, that are able to appease anyone coming in. I always look forward to seeing what new seasonal items they have. I swear theres always something new and appetizing every time we come in. I also really appreciate the sweet server who gifted our party of 6 roses during my friend's bachelorette. We so happened to have our brunch with the bride-to-be on Mother's Day, and despite how busy the staff was, they made an effort to extend kindness and make our friend feel special. Yazs deserves to be recognized for going above and beyond in everything they do.

Ordered, received coffee pretty quickly but didn't receive food until 12:12 pm....No pressure here. I don't find this message on the table welcoming at all. I definitely don't love it. Welcome but hurry up and leave, lol. It's in poor taste in my opinion. I've never seen this before in a restaurant and probably wouldn't be likely to return given this makes patrons feel rushed and I drove an hour, out of state to visit. It kinda says our time is more valuable than yours when you limit patrons to an hour but give them 20 minutes to eat and eff off. My mom had the garden bene and she really enjoyed it. I had the banana Nutella foster French toast. Portions are really huge. You can easily split them. Lattes are really good too. Our server was very kind and attentive. A little pricy for brunch. Our bill came to 52.50 and I wasn't able to use a visa gift card which was strange. Luckily I had my credit card. Overall it was pretty good. Would I return to feel rushed for expensive brunch, probably not.

They offer an assortment of appetizers, salads, pizzas, sandwiches and burgers plus some very good main dishes. I was in the mood for a full dinner so I opted for the meatloaf dinner that they offer and it came with mashed potatoes, carrots and green beans. The meatloaf was very good. The only thing I really wasn't crazy about is the ketchup glaze that comes on it. Next time I will see if I can possibly get it without the ketchup glaze and have them just serve it with the gravy that is also served on the meatloaf. Plenty of seating here. You can either sit at the bar or there are also plenty of tables in the dining room if you'd prefer to sit there. When the weather is nice they do have outdoor dining tables as well. Everything was clean from the dining area to the restrooms. So I can tell that the staff really takes care of this place. I went with a friend for lunch yesterday (Thursday), and after trying pretty much all of the major restaurants in the Hingham/JNorwell/Cohasset area, this restaurant was clearly at the top of my list. We were served the Wagyu Beef Sliders and the Bacon & Carmelized Onion Arancini for appetizers, and the Pulitzer Short Rib Burger and Norwell Hot Chicken Sandwich for entrees. I say that we were "served" those things because we actually ordered the Bavarian Pretzels and not the Wagyu Beef Sliders, but because the sliders were so delicious, we figured that we'll try the pretzels on the next go around. All four of our dishes were absolutely fantastic. The sliders and arancini were absolutely top-notch. I've had so many average arancini that I forgot what it's like when cooked at a high-level. It's as good as any I've had anywhere. And the Pulitzer Burger is now my favorite burger ever. Just the right amount of char on the outside with the inside a perfect medium. The chicken was moist with fantastic seasoning. The unexpected surprise were the fries. The fries here are outstanding. And they achieve something that I've never seen anywhere else: their fries are "pillowy". They are crispy on the outside, but the inside is remarkably moist and fluffy. I'd have to categorize these as steak fries, but steak fries are usually a bit denser. Service was terrific, and the decor of the place is not "dated", as another reviewer commented. The place was clearly built to give off a classic and intimate vibe. I didn't try any of the fish offerings this time, but I plan on returning and checking them out. It blows my mind that I never heard of this place until a few days ago.

Unfortunately, the service felt rushed and somewhat impersonal. Our waitress was responsive when she was at the table, but she tended to disappear for long periods of time. As for the food, it was honestly just average. I ordered the Eggs Benedict, and I'm sad to report it was a disappointment. The hollandaise was cold, the eggs were over-poached, the English muffin only was toasted on one side and the hash browns lacked flavor. Even the coffee I ordered with my meal arrived lukewarm. Surprisingly, the best part of the experience was the Bloody Mary I had at the start of the meal. Maybe the the food would be better during lunch or dinner service. I might give them another try in the future and hope for a better experience.
