Why can't you veiw the menu on their website? For days now. What appears to be the menu you would click on is covered with an unrelated, unclosable pop up ad. As well as text being super imposed on other website text. This menu hiding seems to be an awful trend with better restaurants. Burton's is not haute cuisine. So just publish your menu. JHC. This is a way for restaurants to make more money. They feed you what they got left over from the week before. Gross. Screw the menu. We went to a very pricey ($400 pp) chef's tasting menu at a Boston restaurant in February. Wine pairing was extra. No preview of the menu. We were assured the chef would accommodate my veg diet and another diner of our party's olive and caper intolerance. Four of the small plates contained bacon, ribs, pork belly and meat grease. No alternatives. Disgusting. Even the salad had pork grease vinageratte and also capers and olives. The main was duck. With bacon. Stringy, greasy nasty overcooked duck. The cheese coarse was very sketchy. Cheese menu was not provided. Definately not artesian or organic. Or from Vermont, as we were told. The skimpy slice of cheesecake with hazelnut ice cream for dessert smelled moldy. For $400 I ate two small squares of what I know was Cracker Barrel. Which I enjoyed. 80 percent of our table's food was not eaten or taken home. Over $3K. The chef said we are not sophisticated enough to understand his "food genius." That was pretty funny. read more

I would have always rated this a five. I'm gluten free and the GF fish sandwich is something I dream about. It's the only reason I come here...simply divine. And they are so good about allergies here! I also have a shellfish allergy, which is very common. I ordered the fish sandwich today and was told they now have "firecracker shrimp" on the menu, and it's cooked in their dedicated "seafood fryer" so the fish sandwich is no more, for me. I asked if they could cook the fish in another fryer, but was told no, because it would contaminate the other fryers for those who are allergic to fish. Seeing how shellfish is such a common allergy, and white fish is not, this makes no sense to me. And for whatever reason, they also aren't offering bread now. The GF focaccia was amazing. I had lunch at Burton's Grill, Hingham today with my sister. We both had the lobster roll. I'm not usually shy about sending my food back but I did not complain or call my server over regarding the lobster. I also did not ask if the lobster was fresh while ordering, another mistake. I could tell the lobster was not fresh. The lobster was cold and had little taste. Either it was frozen previously or shipped in packaged but it was certainly not from a fresh lobster. The only saving grace was the warm buttered brioche bun. The price was $21.95 and I expected much more. I did finish it because the bun masked the flavor of the lobster. My sister took her's home. It was our first time going there and we had a dinner reservation for five to celebrate a graduate. Our waiter was great. Three of us enjoyed our chicken and seafood meals. We had one overcooked underwhelming overpriced steak and one undercooked well done burger. We were seated by the hostess station near the door. We mentioned people hovering around the booth as we were being seated. The hostess assured us they wouldn't allow that to happen. By the time we realized that was not true we had already had drinks and appetizers and didn't want to make a scene to move. Horrible table for a party with dinner reservations especially when there were other booths available in addition to us expressing concern. I shared our experience via the text message I received from Burton's asking about our visit and they didn't bother responding. Such a disappointment! Great service every time I've been here. Attentive, kind servers. To start, doughy rolls with a creamy herb butter are brought to the table. Even if you're trying to save room for the main course, the rolls are a must-try. Menu offers a variety of options, as well as separate menus available by request for vegetarian or gluten free diets. Had soup of the day, black bean and corn, and it was delicious. Great start to the meal. Followed up with the beet salad, one of my favorite salads around. Beautifully presented with goat cheese on top, beets diced with onions and nuts beneath. Veggie burger is outstanding as well and a filling meal for any hungry visitor. We live 3 minutes away and used to dine here a couple of times a month. Although the food is good and we always found it to be consistent. We decided to stop going not because of the food, but the chaos in the bar area, where we preferred to eat. The management elects not to control the tables in the bar area so when it's busy, it's a free for all to get a table. Our last visit there was after a verbal confrontation with someone who had just arrived and rudely cut us off to grab the table. We were waiting over 30 minutes but the manager shrugged and said "first come, first serve". Yeah, that's my point. I personally spoke to the restaurant manager on more than one occasion about this easily solved problem by suggesting that anyone who wanted a table check in with the maitre 'd upon arrival to reserve a table just as one would for a dining room table. Burton's lost me as a regular customer who not only dined there but brought large groups as well. read more

Burton's can be a hit and miss. We've eaten there at least 12 times. We've been there when the service was excellent and the food was hot, delicious, with excellent service, which is why we are repeat customers. However, it is unfortunate to say that there have been 3 occasions where the service was not good-the waitress was preoccupied or had too many tables to service, and the food was ok -the presentation was sloppy and the food was lukewarm. We've been going to Burtons for years and it is usually our go to for special occasions. We went there last night, however, and were pretty disappointed. We noticed all the prices have gone up, the menu has become smaller, and the service was not nearly what we remember. My husband always gets a steak, but now it only comes with a starch and no vegetable- for more money. I always rave about their seafood options, but was disappointed when they offered their "catch" of the day as a fish from Australia. I'm having a hard time believing that that would be a fresh catch. I ended up getting a pork chop, which was delicious, but not what I went there for. It also seems as though the service has become a little more lacking. I always appreciated when the server took the time to explain the specials, and now, they simply leave an extra menu with the specials listed. When I asked a question about the menu the server seemed annoyed. The runner for our food dropped our food and never asked if we needed anything else. She barely even looked at us. At least if we are paying more for dinner, the service should be a little more involved. As much as I rave about their risottos, I think we will be trying other restaurants for our special moments for a while. I'd rather my husband and I have positive conversations over dinner, instead of complaining about the restaurant to each other. read more

Good and drinks are usually really good. However, I eat here often and get take out frequently, and one thing you shouldn't expect is a warm greeting, or a "you're welcome". Very cold, poor hospitality quite often. Don't get me wrong, they'll sort you out if a meal is cooked poorly or screwed up, they'll take it off the bill, or get you a gift certificate depending, but for the type of place/environment they're going for, and the price, you'd think basic manners and a greeting wouldn't be too hard to manage. And it's not just wait staff, they're actually better than how the management behaves. If you want good food and are fine with being judged, dismissed, and looked down upon, then check them out. read more

As most of the reviews have stated, the service at Burtons is outstanding! The cocktail I got from the bar was top notch, and one of the best I have had in a while. The food was quite good though not so outstanding that it could earn itself a 5 star rating. I had the catch of the day, Sea Bass with a Seafood Risotto, each prepared quite well. The risotto was nice and creamy with large chunks of vegetables in it and the Bass was juicy and quite the experience. We also had the pork chop, where the pork was clearly the star of the dish, however what kept Burtons from a 5 star was that the broccoli felt a bit over cooked, not by much, and the potatoes had a bit of a raw garlic bite to them. Very minor things that would never keep me from recommending Burtons, but keep me at the "I'm a fan." level instead of "as good as it gets". All in all, if you're looking for a nice place to have a quiet and refined meal, check out Burtons. read more

I have been going to the Hingham location since it opened. After this evening's experience, I'll be going elsewhere. There was just the 2 of us. After a half an hour, I checked with the host just to see where we were on the list, he said another 15 minutes. It nearly killed him to convey this information. Imagine the pain he must have suffered to look at the list and then to actually have had to engage with a potentially paying customer. My daughter checked in with his counterpart 15 minutes later and she said another 10 minutes. We were given an expected wait time of 45 minutes when we originally arrived, and after watching larger parties that did not have a reservation be seated prior to us, we walked out. Legal Seafood was a quick walk across the parking lot and their staff was more than happy to serve. We had the spinach dip for an appetizer. For dinner my daughter had the salmon and I had the fried clams. I also recommend their mud pie, Amazing! read more

I shouldn't start my review agreeing with someone else's review but Katie C. hit the nail on the head. I walked in the door and didn't even get a single head looking up at me. Two people at the hostess counter didn't head no attention. Strike one. Went to the bar to eat lunch, water no drink, beet salad and a sandwich. The beet salad was decent, water had ice and the sandwich was not memorable enough for me to write down what I even had. No strike given for mediocrity. The bartender, a Sunday fill in, was talking to the girl sitting at the bar. They had both worked at Legal Seafoods, knew the same people, experienced the same Legal Seafood drama and decided to talk about it. How freaking boring. So the little cute girl gets a drink and the bartender pours himself the excess. I took my camera phone out and filmed him drinking the bar while ducking down behind the bar as not to get caught. Ummm, the people at the hostess counter are to busy ignoring everything so he drank his whole drink (isn't that illegal in MA) and got her another drink and ... OH. got a drink for her boyfriend without him being there. That's right, he put a drink up on the bar without seeing him and without knowing if he was of age! Strike two. I paid (don't think the cute lil girl drinking and flirting with the bartender even got a tab) walked past the hostess stand again and still NOTHING spoken to me (the place was not busy at 1ishpm) got into my car and noticed three other restaurants in the complex. I won't be back to Burton's Grille anytime soon. They need to work some wrinkles out. read more

Just a fancy place where they hike up prices because it is on Derby street. I had the spring rolls (which are actually egg rolls if you want to get technical) when I ordered it I was expecting spring rolls not the fried egg rolls. I guess Americans wouldn't know the difference but being Vietnamese we know! anyways the order came with 3 "SPRING ROLLS" for $15.00 this blew my mind. I would never in a million years eat this dish which is nothing compared to the original egg rolls which costs around 2-3$ for 3 egg rolls. Then I went ahead and tried their Calamari dish which tasted like it sat in room temperature for a week meaning, they were not fresh. Secondly our waiter kept taking away dishes that we were clearly still using and dishes that still had food on it. just completely rude. Lastly I would like to address the fact that they did not seat my group the order that we arrived (at 11:30 A.M) they seated people who were behind us in line, first. I wouldn't even send my dog to eat here if it was the last place on earth that has food left, thats how horrible the whole experience was. read more

Had a phenomenal meal celebrating my friend's birthday this past weekend. We had 6:30 reservations and the host was very candid that they were running about 15 minutes behind schedule. I appreciated the honesty and it was no big deal at all. We sat at a high top in the bar area with plush leather seats. Our server Angie was awesome. She went over the top making us feel comfortable and welcome, and didn't push us to order quickly as we were catching up. We started with the Spinach Dip and tortilla chips, which was one of the best we've had! It was very cheesy and spinach-y with diced tomatoes on top, not the creamy type I usually think of. My two friends both ordered the full portion Mediterranean Chicken Risotto and I had the Filet with mashed and broccoli. My steak was perfectly cooked and the bone marrow butter on top was sinful. My friends both loved their risotto, and we all completely cleaned our plates! Angie brought out a complimentary piece of a decadent 7 layer chocolate cake with strawberry sauce for my friends birthday, and it was the perfect way to end the meal. We all drank wine, but I started with a Dirty Martini with Blue Cheese Olives..perfectly made and man do I love BC Olives! Where to begin? In the past several visits to Burtons, my experience has been a consistent 3-to-4-stars. Not great, not bad... but certainly not last night. it was like a cliff-dive. My friend and I decided to go to Burtons to catch up and enjoy a nice dinner out. When I politely asked how long a wait is for a party of two, the host (who wouldn't look me in the eye and was more concerned with looking at a couple in the bar) quoted the wait between 45 and 60 minutes. No big deal for a Saturday night, right? An hour and forty five minutes (that's 105 minutes for the mathematically challenged) and we were seated. What's worse is the host had my cell phone number as a point of-reference - no phone call to say they were running late. No manager to apologize, either. Instead, the Harry Potter look-alike host, had the audacity to call my cell phone as we were standing in front of the host stand waiting for a table, glaring at him, while there was only one another party waiting for a table, too. The food was okay - I had the bronzed salmon special that was just, "okay." Dessert, the chocolate torte, was just "okay" but still a sweet treat. Overall ... very turned off by the substandard service. The restaurant experience begins and ends with the host; welcoming guests as they arrive and wishing them a good night and hopes they'll return as they leave. If I'm going to spend money at a restaurant, I will spend it where I feel welcomed as compared to feeling like a burden. Time for a new place to visit. read more

I had thought Burton's was a national chain, something in the vein of The Cheesecake Factory, until my parents set me straight and told me it was a small local chain with just three or four outposts in Massachusetts. I ended up there last night because my mom is caesar salad obsessed, to the point that she carries a little notebook with her to keep track of her opinion of the caesar salads at various restaurants. Well, Burton's scored high and she was determined for me to try it, so off we went. I ordered the caesar salad, of course, since not ordering it would be akin to slapping my mom in the face. I was not disappointed, it was definitely one of the best CS's I've ever had. It was perfectly dressed with an incredibly fresh dressing and had just the right amount of cheese and toasted croutons. I also had the crabcakes, in hopes that I could make up for my terrible experience with crabcakes last week. It worked. These crabcakes were loaded with jumbo lump crabmeat, which might be the greatest protein on earth. I wasn't into the red bell peppers that were in the crabcakes, but they were easy enough to pick out. The entrees are a bit steep, but you can get a delicious and inexpensive meal if you stick to a caesar salad and the clam chowder, which my mom also raved about. I'd just been there for lunch and had an okay (3*) experience so I decided to give it a go. I called early in the day to make a reservation but was told that they don't take same-day reservations. Huh? While this might make sense in the math of running a restaurant (although I'm not sure how), it is decidedly customer-unfriendly, which is an apt characterization of Burton's at dinner. It was 7ish on a rainy Thursday in spring. They seated us in the lounge area, which is very large, very noisy area of maybe 30 tables. Our table for two was part booth, part bench seat that backed up very close to another much larger booth with no partition. I was closer to the people at the adjoining booth than I was to my date. They were so close that I could reach out and touch them, not that I'd want to, especially since I knew them, a detail that made the already awkward situation of the table even more uncomfortable. Do restaurant designers think that people have nothing private to say when in restaurants? I don't get it. In addition, one of the seats jutted out into the walkway, which is what I might expect at the mall food court during Christmas season but not at a restaurant with $30 entrees Oh, right. This *is* a mall eatery. Next to us on the other side were four empty tables. I'll never understand why restaurants jam patrons together even when there are empty seats or, when crowded, why they don't time the seating of diners so that as one party ends their meal, the adjoining party would be starting -- you know, alternate -- so that strangers don't sit atop each other from app to dessert. We asked to move to one of the empty tables. No, they said. Those are reserved. Hard to believe that all of them were reserved, especially since they don't allow same-day rezzies, but whatever. They offered us a table in the bar, which we agreed to take. I mean, how bad could it be? Bad.They squeezed us into an end table between a wall and another table where once again we were closer to the people at the next table than we were to each other. The tables were so close that the server couldn't even stand beside us (or between the tables) to take our order. Not that we could hear her, what with all the noise. How do you spend $150 on dinner under these circumstances? We waited for two seats at the bar, which, after the fiasco with the seating, felt like a huge relief. Maybe it's not always this tough to get a decent seat? Maybe we were in a bad zone? I'm not going to deduct stars and whatnot for an off-evening. But if you come here expecting elegance, you should know that the seating sucks, the noise is overwhelming, and they're more corporate than craft, all things reflected in the ambiance and, as I was soon to find out, the food. Cocktails are mediocre. There are a few with cutesy names on the menu but if you ask the bartender to go off-menu -- and I mean for standards -- he or she -- I asked both -- will balk. They're not mixologists. They're cogs. Food is mediocre. The vegetarian risotto was like bland fried rice -- just an unimaginative melange of veggies tossed together without any of the creaminess so characteristic of slow-cooked arborio rice. Why bother? The beet salad was bland. The pork just okay. But you'll be glad to know that the chicken wings were tasty. I suppose if you've never eaten at a nice restaurant you could be fooled into thinking Burton's is good. But here's a measure: my teenage son thinks it's the bomb. It's probably okay for a beer and an app. Granny and the rugrats will probably be happy. But if you're stuck in the burbs and want something real, keep yelping. read more

I was excited to learn that Burton's has a totally separate gluten-free kitchen and they are so great with making a dish vegetarian/vegan too. However, I (wrongly) assumed that since they are SO careful about gluten and vegetarian, they must be just as careful to avoid the most common food allergens. (dairy and soy being mine). I took my family to Burton's to celebrate my birthday. When ordering, I almost felt too cautious when I mentioned that I was also allergic to soy. I mean, what are the odds? About 5 minutes later, the manager came to our table to explain that the only oil they use is soybean oil. I had a salad. Everything else has meat, dairy, and/or soy. Bummer. read more

I love Burton's and always look forward to going. It is a fabulous place for after work, the appetizers are phenominal, the wine list fantastic and the cocktails are delicious (Espresso Martinis are worth a trip alone). The quality and preparation of the food is also excellent. Nothing is overly complicated or overdone - just great steaks and seafood. The bronzed seafood is a favorite!! The atmosphere is great as well - there is definitely a great energy to the place. Lots of professionals but not stuffy by any means.
