We usually LOVE Burtons in South Windsor, CT. It's always a safe choice in terms of customer service, ambiance and food. We went to the Hingham location last night, and it's probably the LAST time I will give them my business. I made a reservation for 8, we showed up at 750 to see if they could seat us early. They informed me that my reservation was for 8:15, no big deal, but the hostess over the phone told me 8pm. It was very crowded and they kept telling us we were next, however they kept seating people right as they walked in who did NOT have a reservation. Then the hostess snapped at me when I asked her at 8:25 if our table was ready yet. She went from nice to very rude. Not to mention there were about 8 open tables at this point. Our waitress was nice and we ordered the stuffed haddock and salmon with beet salad. After a long wait, the food runner came out, basically threw our plates on our table because she was in such a rush, before giving us a chance to see if it was ok. My haddock and vegetables came out cold, but the plate was warm which means it was sitting under a heat lamp for too long, and there were no seasonings or sauces with it so I had to send it back. It took the waitress another 15 minutes to come over to check on us, at this point it was 930, and she was nice about making it right, it took another 1/2 hour to get my plate, which was good the 2nd time around....was it worth the $29 price tag? Not at all, but at this point I was starving. I asked to speak to the manager but was told they were "tied up" Left a very bad taste in my mouth, literally and figuratively. read more

Had a business meeting here. Saw some great reviews on Yelp. Cool location in the Derby Street Shops and nice decor. Service was good. Started with a tomato and broth soup that was reminiscent of a tortilla style and had great flavors. What degrades my review to "Meh" was a component in the fish tacos. If you are going to use avocado, they need to be ripe. These slices were so fibrous and tough that it detracted from the entire dish. I don't mean to be harsh but if you're going to put yourself out there as an upscale eatery chain, this is a never can happen event. read more

Meeting a business partner in the area and he recommended this local spot. What a great choice for dinner! Plenty of other shopping in the area. We ended up just sitting at the bar for dinner and the service was awesome. I selected the Roasted Beet salad and the Scallops with Corn. The scallops were cooked perfectly and the bed of corn was unbelievable. The bar has a large drink menu and for beer drinkers like myself, I had no problem making a selection. Restaurant was way too crowded to observe safety for Covid. Filet was ordered medium and arrived rare. Sent back while husband continued to eat. Came back still rare. Sent back second time and came back so overcooked couldn't eat it. Manager apologized but had attitude. Finally after second send back he offered to comp meal. Will not return. read more

We came in for a birthday lunch for my mom. She wanted to do some shopping at the Hingham Derby Shoppes and have a nice lunch. I had never been to Burton's Grille so I checked out the menu online before coming in. I read they had Macaroni and Cheese on the lunch menu... My mom loves macaroni and cheese and I knew she would come just for that. Unfortunately the menu online hadn't been updated and the waitress told us they just had just taken if their menu. Luckily my mom wasn't too disappointed and she ordered a Cobb salad. It was a generous size and she really enjoyed it. The salad was fresh with warm grilled chicken and plenty of egg and blue cheese crumbles. I had their bolognese pasta and the flavor was good but I could've done without the super hard piece of Parmesan bread on the side. It did nothing for the meal and it was much too hard to even eat. It was a smaller portion which was fine since it was lunch time but good thing my husband didn't order it or he would've still been hungry. The hubby ordered the lunch burger and he loved it! Cooked just the way he likes it and the flavor was great. The restaurant decor is modern and cool. The service was friendly and I saw the manager walk a round a few times smiling and greeting people. The prices are on the higher end. It's a place I would go for a special occasion or for lunch. Have been a loyal customer of Burton's for years, it has always been our go to. The past fee experiences have been awful. We got the same waitress every time, who is very inattentive and poor service. Our food has been inconsistent and while good quality food, the portions are getting smaller and smaller. I'm never one to care about the cost of dinner, but with the inconsistency and lacking portion sizes, I will be bringing my business elsewhere. read more

We had our first visit to Burton's tonight...at the tail end of a September heat wave. We didn't feel like cooking and we had a gift card so we figured why not?! What we experienced was a truly delightful meal with excellent service. We walked in without a reservation and were greeted by a young but apprehensive hostess who was hesitant to seat us as there were two pending reservations on board. A man who we assume to be the general manager looked at the seating chart and without hesitation gave us a comfy booth near the front of the restaurant. Out waitress was very sweet and attentive. Drinks were refilled promptly and our order was taken at our convenience. The food was absolutely wonderful! I had the crabcakes which may be the best I've ever had, or at least close to it. The manager who stopped at our table a few times mentioned they only use four ingredients because who really needs more than that? They had a nice sear on the outside but were tender and fluffy inside. You could taste the crab and not a lot of filler which was really enjoyable. My meal came with coleslaw which I didn't eat because I don't like coleslaw, and fries which were a nice hand cut fry with the skin on them. My husband loved these! Speaking of the husband, he had the fillet mignon which was buttery and cooked perfectly. It's very difficult to cook a perfect fillet mignon but Burton's manages it effectively. We were made to feel quite special. We are an average couple, we're not dressed up, but did not feel out of place or different from any other diner. Due to the impeccable service and delicious food we will most certainly return to Burton's for another fantastic meal. read more

My family came here Sunday afternoon for my mother's birthday. This location is pretty big and nice inside. The herb bread they brought out while we waited came with a garlic butter that was really good. We ordered the California chicken sandwich with bacon, the Mediterranean chicken risotto with shrimp instead of chicken, the crab crusted haddock, the salmon romesco, the lobster shrimp pasta and the 6 ounce fillet mignon, medium well. The steak was super dry. It was completely well done. I felt bad for the one who ordered that. The lobster shrimp pasta was just okay. It lacked some flavors. This full sized dish only came with 2 tiny half pieces of the claw. The salmon dish was just okay also. It should be ordered medium so it doesn't come out so dry. The crab crusted haddock was the best thing I tasted. The flavors were there and the haddock was flaky and cooked perfectly. The Mediterranean chicken risotto with shrimp was also good. I wish I asked what the seasonal veggie was. All the dishes came with only string beans and I hate string beans. I didn't try the California chicken sandwich, but my little sister enjoyed it. I don't see how you can go wrong with bacon, pepper jack cheese and avocado. I ordered the berry mimosa sangria, which was huge and really good. For dessert, we all shared the key lime pie, chosen by our waitress. It was so good and had a nice creamy consistency. Overall, it was a nice time with loved ones. Burtons Grill is one of my favorite places. The burgers are excellent and one of the best dishes on the menu (in my opinion). The bread always comes out warm from the oven, and although I'm not a fan of the butter, everyone else in my family loves it. For an appetizer, I'd strongly recommend the buffalo chicken dip. And when something did not go right with my partner's meal, Melissa and Jill were wonderful at righting everything, they went above and beyond to make sure that we were satisfied and had a great experience. First time diners, very pleased! Went on a Tuesday and were surprised by all the cars lining up for curbside take out, steady line from 5:30 to 7PM! 14oz ribeye steak cooked perfectly medium rare along with 2 sides for $37, can't be beat. 2 blue crab cakes over an inch thick, all crab meat, so sweet, comes with fries an awesome slaw all for $25. Above mentioned meals 10 out of 10. The filet mignon dinner only gets a 9 out of 10 as the steak was overcooked to medium well and not medium but very, very tasty! Also the firecracker shrimp app was excellent as well as the drinks and service! Will be on our list for a big Family Party when the Covid Restrictiona finally passes. read more

After the stress of flying up from Miami, and the traffic getting out of Logan Airport, I was ready for a hearty steak and a good drink. Yelp Search led me to Burton's. My friend that I'm staying with gave his nod of approval to this choice. The restaurant is located in a fairly new open-air upscale mall, and there's plenty of convenient parking. On a Wednesday evening, we were greeted immediately to comfortable booth seating. Our server was competent and professional, and all orders came out promptly. I started off with a Tito's American Mule, well crafted and delicious. Our app was the Buffalo chicken dip. It had a nice baked crust, a tangy cheese flavor, and wasn't too overpowering in the heat department. Tortilla chips for dipping were fresh and crisp. Trying to stay on diet, I had the Paleo NY strip. This cut of angus beef was nicely proportioned and seasoned. I had it done medium, because as most kitchens do, it came out medium rare, which was perfect. The steak was topped by very fresh wild mushrooms, grape tomatoes, and carmelized onions which were delicious. My friend, who's a New England native, raved about the crab cakes, served with fresh, homemade style cole slaw. The meal was topped off by a large helping of banana bread pudding, which was sinfully scrumptious! The restaurant lacks the intimacy of a independent business, and has this "chainy-franchise " feel, but I'm giving it 5 stars because they delivered exactly what I came for with a quality dining experience. read more

I could not bring myself to pay $13.95 for an Angus Burger when I can go to Arogosta in North End for a Kobe Burger for $14.95 with fine dining experience. Sorry, I didn't not want risk trying the burger at that price to be disappointed. I was delighted with the Haddock Imperial ($14.95) I chose for lunch. It was done right for sure but I wish it had a generous heaping of the stuffing (I guess it's $14.95 for a reason!). I would come here regularly and try the rest of the menu if it wasn't so pricey! I came to this area for work. There are not many restaurants around here and rave reviews of this place on yelp caught my eyes. It's a spacious restaurant that serves both American and Italian foods. Due to its location off the shore, I had seafood pasta. It had a few big shrimp and a few slices of lobster with a cream based sauce. However it was not too heavy and pieces of tomato was a great match to the sauce. Also our server was very friendly and attentive to us. I am so mad at myself I can't remember my servers name it began with a C... but she was fantastic! You can get good food anywhere but the point of eating out is great service and she provided that effortlessly. We started with the spinach artichoke dip and it was delicious. Just joining Yelp, but dined here with my sister and son in March and was very pleased with the service and food. I ordered the General Tso's Bowl with Cauliflower and skimmed too quickly to realize there were almonds in the dish (I have a sensitivity, but better safe than sorry). I felt like a jerk as it was my fault, and offered to pay for another, but they promptly replaced my dish and the manager came over and spoke with me unprompted. Everyone was incredibly sweet and service was quick! There was some sort of zucchini pasta appetizer that was on special and my incredibly picky toddler was mowing them down! Needless to say, we have and will be back for more. As a vegetarian, it can be tough to find dishes beyond a frozen veggie burger at many restaurants, but the veggies and sauce were to die for! The service here is excellent, the hostess and waitresses are very good. The food is usually good, but unfortunately, the last time I went, the Caesar salad was boring, and the dressing was terrible. There was hardly any Parmesan cheese on the Caesar salad, and very few croutons as well. It is sold as a dinner salad, so scripting on the Parmesan cheese did not help the salad at all. When I asked why it took so long the waitress dismissed us and said "oh the computer broke sorry" while o observed outer tables behind served that arrived long after us . Was a pleasant experience. Service was so slow. Our server seemed overwhelmed. She walked by our empty water glasses and cocktails multiple times. Food was very good. Crab crusted haddock, chopped salad with salmon, salmon was awesome and a Max burger. Creme brûlée was also very good. When it was time to get our check, we literally had to wait 15 minutes to get the check and then another 10 minutes to come back.
