This place was fine but honestly I prefer Chipotle based on my experience today. This location was clean. I had the burrito bowl. The one thing that I did not like at all was their rice. I just went with the plain rice, it tasted like Uncle Ben's. They have a decent variety of protein options, I went with the Baja Chicken which had a nice kick to it. I came here to order Birria tacos that they advertise, they come with consome so you can dip the tacos in. When I opened my food I was not able to lift the taco at all it all came apart. I called them to let them know and I was told sorry nothing we can do about it, stated if I wanted to I could come back and pay for another taco. False advertising. I spent 10$ on a bunch of mush. When you go to eat at a place named Burrito Beach, you probably know what to expect. This is a taqueria-style casual place where you stand in line, go through the food assembly line, and carry your food on a tray to a table. I was not terribly impressed. I noticed a fast-food Mexican option across the street, and I'm pretty sure I would've been happier had I dined there. My sirloin steak burrito was pretty bland, even by fast-food Mexican standards. The guacamole was good, but certainly not great. And my wife's nachos with chicken plate was decent. To be honest, the best part of the meal was the two cookies we bought. The oatmeal raisin and chocolate chip were actually pretty superior. The experience was not enhanced by the fact the place seemed understaffed in the evening. We walked in with one person getting served and one person waiting, and the two people staffing the food assembly line couldn't keep up. After scooping our meat onto the burrito and nacho chips the food sat there getting cold while the person at the cash register struggled to check one person out and the second employee served the person before us. No one was moving very fast, and our food didn't get served very hot. This is a place to stop for a quick, cheap, fast burrito. It won't change your life, but it will fill your stomach. If speed and price are your primary options, Burrito Beach is an okay option in Streeterville. read more

First time I've ever had Burrito Beach before. I was skeptical because I'm a fan of authentic Mexican food so I kinda figured it was going to be a knockoff Chipotle but I was pleasantly surprised. It was pretty good. I ordered the Chicken and Chorizo Burrito. Its roughly the same size as a Chipotle burrito but the glaring difference was the taste. The add chorizo added another level of spice to it which was perfect. The one thing I liked about it is they had different options of meat you could put in your burrito besides just chicken, beef and steak. The one negative to my experience is I had a $5 off coupon that the workers there did not know how to honor. So I had to spend 10 minutes waiting on a worker to call his manager on the phone and talk him into how to discount my meal. But after that was resolved, everything else was good. read more

Easy on the wallet and hearty, especially after a day shopping the Magnificent Mile. This location was solid with traffic the whole time I was there and the many times we passed it going back and forth to our hotel down the street. It seemed to get a good crowd of locals eating in or picking up dinner on their way home and tourists or shoppers in from out of town. It's a Subway style Mexican place with a simple menu. Pick your frame: tacos, burrito, bowl, nachos. Then add a protein, and end with some toppings: salsa, sour cream, guacamole, cheese, lettuce, onions, tomato, etc. They have standard sodas and homemade cookies, too. I had shrimp tacos with corn tortillas. They were well-seasoned, but not too exciting. The hot salsa was hotter, better than I expected, though. It was rich and not bitter. The ingredients and toppings seemed fresh and tasted good, and the tortillas were handled well. I am honestly bored with chipotle flavors and was looking for an alternative and I think this place serves the need . Tacos were delish with right amount of kick. Servers were very friendly and theirs sauces are def worth trying ( far better than chipotle version ) . I will be def coming back to this place and try their bowls. I'm always down to try new Mexican places whenever I can. This place is right around the corner from where we stayed while visiting Chicago, so I of course had to check it out. Don't be fool by the 3.5 rating. Though similar to Qdoba and Chipotle in concept, Burrito Beach offers a lot of options that the other two don't, such as coba shrimp, barbacoa style beef, and a variety of different styles of chicken (buffalo/ asada/ baja). I'm obsessed with the barbacoa beef. It's sort of slow cook style. The beef is thoroughly cooked and really tender. The flavor infuse over time so it has a much deeper taste. Overall, one delicious Mexican bowl of rice that I've eaten thus far. Not to mention the price is awesome, whether or not you use 10% student discount (only for Northwestern Uni though). Will be back when I'm in Chicago for sure. read more

I have been going to Burrito Beach since it opened in the mid-1990s. I have eaten at this location several times and I have taken carry out from here too. I really love the location. It's right off the Magnificent Mile. So, anytime I've wanted a good quick bite, it's been there. This is especially important at this location because there very few places to get fast eats around the Magnificent Mile. Also, the food is very good. Back when this location opened there very few fast food Mexican food options other that Taco Bell. It was a breath of fresh air to get a rolled burrito near Michigan Avenue. Even with the advent of places like Chipotle and Qudoba, Burrito Beach has held up very well. They offer certain toppings and dishes that are not offered at other equivalent Mexican chains. Most recently, I got carry out from them at this location. I got their taco kit and nachos kit. First, it comes with literally everything you need. Whether you want to build more traditional street tacos with corn tortillas or do something more "Americanized" with flour tortillas they have you covered. Second, it's super easy. The tacos come ready to build right out of the box and you only need heat up the nachos for three to five minutes. Third, and most importantly, the food is awesome. Despite transporting it back to my home, there was no droop off in taste or quality. Overall, I highly recommend Burrito Beach. read more

Think really good Mexican food with a Chipotle-like set up. You walk in to a line, you choose your meal base, meat,toppings etc. I had the Chicken burrito with a spinach wrap. They offer tacos (3per order) and comboa. They also had the option of guacomole and chips for $2.99, lots of the people that work in the area kept purchasing it-but I was already extra stuffed with my burrito I opted against the additions. With the burrito and a fountain drink,my total was $9.15- about 85¢ cheaper than ordering just a burrito in NYC but much more filling. There are multiple areas for seating-a countertop with stools along the window and multiple chairs tables I did not need to use the bathroom,so I have no review for it. But, I appreciated that they had a revolving door for patrons to use, so less cold air came in from opening and closing the regular door. But, its still there as an option. I went on a Month day around 2pm, The staff didn't rush you to finish your meal or give up the seat thank goodness. The downside to the place is the way the cashier rush you, while you're trying to ask them about other items in addition to your food. Also, the soda and iced tea dispensers looked like they've never been cleaned since last month, you could see dust and dried splash spots all over. Back in my Chicago traveling days I would always breeze through security, head to burrito beach and order the exact same chicken burrito and belly up at the Admirals club. This week I happened to be staying at the Doubletree downtown and noticed the Burrito Beach a few blocks from the hotel. I wandered down for a late lunch and the place was relatively dead. The staff was clearly cleaning up from their lunch rush. When I unwrapped the foil I quickly remembered that glorious smell and dug in quickly. In any other Burrito shop I go for the hottest salsa, but the first time I had BB I accidentally ordered the mild salsa......and never looked back. Although not spicy at all, the flavors are incredible! I would highly recommend a visit to BB if your anywhere nearby! read more

I personally like the burrito in here. I like the other location better honestly but this location is still just literally the same with the other one. When I do not have food in mind for breakfast, brunch and lunch and I do not want burgers or hot dogs I would just go to this place and order their burrito. I eat their burrito for a lot of times that I cannot almost count it and never have I ever had a bad experience or anything. Their burrito and basically or their food is delicious and of course fresh, with fresh ingredients and freshly cooked each time I would order. Prices are fair and reasonable and just your typical price for a food that you could get in a fast food. I also like the fact that their staff is nice, accommodating and friendly. woohoo, a stars upgrade! Burrito Beach have overhauled their rice.... now it has full yumminess and no sogginess. But even that old soggy rice probably would have been fine in the most delicious burrito invention ever: black bean and goat cheese. This is the best idea. I loved it. I suppose this is Chicago's chain alternative to Chipotle, but honestly it's not even close. We came in early in the morning, that meant they had a breakfast menu in effect. Can't argue against having breakfast burritos and bowls. So breakfast seemed promising given the options on the menu. I Ordered the chorizo breakfast burrito and my girlfriend chose the veggie breakfast burrito. Immediately after I ordered the breakfast burrito a man had came in and asked about that, and the lady that first took my order tells him that the veggies aren't that fresh. Where's the heads up for me? Also noticed the guacamole and the chorizo were sort of discolored. So as you could imagine, my girlfriend wasn't that satisfied with her burrito and my chorizo burrito was just ok. The spicy salsas they have made it taste better, but I've had better. I don't understand why there are so many mediocre reviews--maybe it's because it's a small/local/relatively unknown chain. But I was recently convinced by a friend to stop by and finally try a burrito, and now all I can think about is the mouth-watering cabo shrimp! Seriously, it has a really distinct taste--tangy/robust with fresh vegetables and salsa and sour cream to balance out all the flavors. Lots of shrimp, too. No other local burrito place has that kind of flavor and quality for that low of a price (~$6)! Competitive Analysis: Qdoba: similar in terms of "unusual" flavors, but the closest location to Burrito Beach closed down recently. Burrito Beach burritos tend to be a little larger and more robust than sweet/zesty like the Qdoba burritos I've tried. Disclaimer: I don't eat really meat/chicken at these places so I can't compare those types of options. Chipotle: always delicious but no shrimp/flavor like this! But Chipotle burritos do tend to be bigger bang for your buck, because the burritos are often stuffed to the max. Bottom-line: Add a Northwestern or University of Chicago 10% discount (show your student ID) and you can get a really great deal for lunch. Plus, it's owned by a UChicago grad (sign posted by register about the restaurant's history), and I like supporting entrepreneurial initiatives! So I was in Burrito Beach last night ordering up a trio of tacos and a side of guac (fyi, their guac is delicious), when this jerk strolls in and starts harassing the counter staff. Seriously, why do people think they can be rude to people who work in customer service for no good reason? In my distraction by this freak of nature, I left my wallet on the counter. Lo and behold, the staff found it and held onto it intact until I came back looking for it today. That is amazing. Especially in this city. I love you BB staff! Also, I was obviously ordering food there because I am a big fan. I recommend the Cabo shrimp. Take that Chipotle, you don't have anything like that on your menu! Also, Northwestern staff gets a 10% discount, which is always handy.
