The Sauce. Seasoned ketchup. Seasoned mayo. Seasoned mustard.
    Shawn H.

First time at the new location. Have previously tried this joint when it was located in Lewiston, ME. They have moved to Auburn. Usually, when checking out a "new" bbq joint, I like to order a sampler platter of some kind. No such thing is available here. So, the order was for three items. The Brisket platter with fries and beans. The Beef Burnt Ends platter with slaw and mac'n'cheese. The 'by the pound' Four Bones. All of the orders came with pickles, corn bread and butter. After ordering and paying for the food, we moved over to the bar to order a beer. Yes, food and beer are ordered separately at separate locations and separate transactions. We took the numbered basket of sauces, and our beer, to a table. The food was brought to us when ready. Beans: hard, and tasted like the pan burned and this was scraped from the bottom of the burned pan of beans. Fries: soggy and mushy Slaw: probably the best food of the day. Fresh tasting and pleasant. Mac'n'cheese: pasta was overcooked. Bland and not very cheesy. Corn bread: was actually cold, like it came fresh out of the fridge. Whipped butter was tasty, and warmer than the bread. Ribs: fall off the bone, literally. Thoroughly charred, but no smoke ring. Tasted like a house on fire at the char, no flavor to the meat. At least is was not dried up. Brisket: dried up. No smoke ring. Charred, but no flavor. Brash taste of fire, but not the subtle flavor of a good slow smoke. Beef Burnt Ends: huge chunks of greasy pot roast that was somehow dry to chew. Again with the char, but lacking the art of slow smoke. There is a Jenga and some bean toss boards. The "private room" is a section of open floor and tables with a 3/4 partition from the rest of the restaurant. Oh, the sauces: Ketchup with some other seasoning. Really, read the label. Ketchup with some other seasoning. Tastes exactly how it sounds.

Trying a new BBQ places smells amazing

In the area and looking for a lunch spot with gluten free options. This place popped up and it didn't disappoint. You can smell the BBQ in the air when you step out of the vehicle. The staff were friendly and responsive to allergy and other questions. The wings were Smokey and plump. The hand cut fries were awesome. Inside the seating is vast, eat family style or at the bar or at a table for 4. Want to hang out? They have corn hole set up. Full bar, local brews. Nice find

Brisket platter with cole slaw and hand cut fries. Added burnt ends

I had high expectations based on some of the feedback I was hearing, but unfortunately I was very disappointed. I arrived around 12:19pm, about 1 hour and 20 minutes after they open. My thought is arrive early and get the freshest meats off the smoker. The establishment is very clean and well kept. Staff is friendly and young even the ones I saw in the kitchen. For the prices they were asking, again I was expecting good quality meats with great flavors from the smoker and their in-house sauces. I ordered the Brisket platter which includes 1/2lbs of beef brisket, cornbread and two sides. I chose their handout fries and coleslaw. I also ordered some of their beef burnt ends (1/4lb) because it's in their name and I am expecting mind-blowing flavors. When my number was called and I retrieved my platter, I could immediately tell it looked delicious so I was looking forward to it. That's where the excitement ended. I started with the burnt ends which were good size (you got 2 pieces for 1/4lb) and they were lightly brushed with bbq sauce. First bit took a little effort to break through and once inside immediately tasted how dry the meat was. I was having difficulty understanding how burnt ends are dry given I am used to seeing BBQ places smoke the fat cap more and then serve that as burnt ends. This felt more like poor man's burnt ends using a chuck roast. The consistency just didn't seem like it was brisket. The brisket was dry and you could tell visually before diving into it. The ends were the only moist parts. You can see a nice smoke ring, but I was not a big fan of the dry rub they used on it. It just didn't give it any flavor that made me want to devour it. I tried to impart some form of moisture with their house sauces which were good, but nothing to write home about (yet I am talking about it here..lol). What you see in the picture is 1/2lb of brisket which seem like a lot consider the two pieces of burnt ends were 1/4lb. I think I got the burnt end (no pun intended) of the stick on that. The coleslaw was really the only item worth writing about. They use just enough celery seed that it gives it some good flavor which goes well with the meats. The hand cut fries were...eh...as you can tell they reached in with their hands and placed it on the platter given some of them were crushed. The corn bread was moist, dense and to me felt like a muffin you would get a donut shop. Overall the customer service and the coleslaw is what gave them the 2 stars. I am very disappointed given I heard they had a good reputation. I have other local BBQ joints I will go to because this experience doesn't make me want to go out of my way to try them again.

Good food and a great beer menu, has a decent sized bar and regular seating, the smoked wings are excellent: Atmosphere has both quick go get your food options as well as sit down and dine. Bartender was super friendly and very prompt. Love the fact we can play corn hole there while watching the Bruins as well!

Lunchbox - Pulled Pork, Mac & Cheese, Cole Slaw, Cornbread
    Sue L.

Delicious! It does not look like much from the outside, but it is very good Bar-B-Q! Excellent pulled pork, very tasty house sauce (made by them), fresh coleslaw - not too sweet, very creamy/cheesy and well seasoned mac & cheese, and very good cornbread. They even make their own ketchup! The owner answered all my questions and was very nice. My only fuss is that they do not offer a sampler plate. How hard would it be to make a plate of 3 or 4 ounces each of brisket, chicken, and pork with a couple of sides?

My first review got deleted some how . This was the worst BBQ I've ever had. Cold food . The burnt ends were all fat no meat . There were three pieces . The Mac and cheese was not homemade the pasta was pre made and stored in water then jarred Alfredo sauce added . Didn't even taste like Mac and cheese . The chilli was beans with meat in it . The only good thing was the corn bread . The service was horrible . The set up is strange . An older woman with a short blond bob just stands there looking around instead of saying welcome . Weird vibes . We walked in and had no idea where to go or what to do . Customers who were eating had to direct us . Come for a drink and corn hole but the food is horrible and pricy ! Id give it a zero if possible .

The issues were glaring though. We arrived early for a group reservation of 10 and started at the bar. The service was very slow and we got the sense that the bartender was frustrated that we showed up early with the idea to have a cocktail before our reservation. Bar service continued to be painstakingly slow throughout the night. The restaurant was somehow out of several of their menu options (despite the restaurant not being busy on a weekend day). Not the end of the world, but it left us asking some questions. The major issues really arose when our entree courses were served. They had somehow ran out of french fries, and you could see that in the portion size of the frites in our steak frites (the picture included in our review was our plate -- we had BY FAR the most fries out of those at the table who ordered steak frites). And they ran out of steak - one of the people at our party who ordered steak frites was served a hamburger (which isn't even on the menu). Overall, I thought that we overpaid for the food and if it wasn't for the good company at our dinner - I would have been very frustrated.

Not by any means bad, but so many flaws and so far below my high expectations from other reviews…read morethat my 2 star rating is appropriate, though it gives me no pleasure to do so. I have no issues with my waitress, Brianna or any of the other staff I interacted with. And, while the food certainly sounds interesting on the menu, it doesn't translate to tasty, attractive plates and this needs attention desperately. The menu is very small, all fitting easily on one page. There were no specials. My appetizer was the best thing of the meal, Roasted Cauliflower, with fava cream, roasted almonds, fresno puree, mint oil, and duck crackling. The plating was attractive. I liked the subtly minted fava cream (think hummus), the cauliflower florets tender and sweet from the roasting. But the mint leaves were whole (should have been julienned), the almonds didn't seem particularly roasted, and as for duck cracklings? I forgot they were even there until I reread the menu this morning while writing this review. There were 5 specialty cocktails listed on a card on the table. My Water Street Ol' Fashioned was made with Knob Creek bourbon, Liqueur 43, maple, honey, burnt orange. It wasn't sufficiently chilled. But the flavor was good, it seemed strong enough, and the cherry was of high quality; perhaps Luxardo. The wine list included some unusual selections, including an ice wine from Ontario by the glass, which I had with dessert and enjoyed. My entree was - there's really no other way to put it - a disaster. Braised Lamb: charred eggplant, blistered red pepper, polenta cake, mint gremolata. First impression: what incredibly sloppy plating! Everything piled onto one side of the plate, stray crumbs on the other side. Like somebody tripped but caught themself on the way to delivering it. This was not a cohesive dish. It was a collection of ingredients. The meat lacked flavor (what was it braised in - water?) and was divided into two odd-shaped chunks. The eggplant was chewy and sour, not noticeably charred as described. The greens (pea greens?) were a tangled mass off to one side, uncut and difficult to eat. Even with these flaws it might have been saved by a flavorful sauce to bring it together but there wasn't any. I would have added salt but there was none on the table and I didn't bother to ask. I hoped maybe they could redeem themselves with a good dessert. Sadly this was not to be. Just 4 things on the menu, none of them sounding very interesting. I should have just settled on the Affogato - hard to get this wrong. Instead, and untypically for me I chose the Chocolate Pot de Creme, unimaginatively described "... strawberry jam, vanilla granola." Like chocolate pudding out of a box (or how I remember it, being over 50 years since I've had it). The granola? Literally like they opened a box of cereal and dumped some on top. The jam unmemorable but it added contrasts in sweetness. Some whipped cream and maybe chopped mint would have been welcome additions. They had the audacity to list "Bread & Butter" in their small plates section. Described as "warm bread, lemon chive butter." How unimaginative! And while it is unfortunately getting more common to charge for bread, I believe strongly that table bread should be free. Always. Some good things too. The main dining room and bar are beautiful, with an uncluttered, modern look mixed with country touches like a farm table adorned with some wine bottles and potted plants, a worn oriental rug beneath. Knick-knack shelves on the walls, painted vines on the walls. Mostly soft jazz playing for music. But the long and thin layout is a drawback because no table gets good views, especially on the porch. I could have faced the outside windows with a view of the parking lot or the open windows to the inside, where I sat, where my views were cut off by large plastic plants. Really the best place to sit is at the very attractive bar. Where, by all means if you're staying at the hotel have some drinks and a snack, but I suggest you seek other alternatives for dining.

Not having been here before, my friend and I appreciated the clear signage of where to go for food vs. gear. We looked at the menu and went back downstairs to order food and drinks. The drinks we carried upstairs, but the pizza we ordered was brought to us. To pay and to order more drinks, downstairs you go. And with the free x-country ski trails, on a nice day, this place jams up pretty fast. Soon tables are packed, there are lines to get food and drinks, and to use the 3 individual non-gender restrooms. Just a few things I found a bit odd or inconvenient - 1) They have a wonderful beer selection, but don't do flights :( 2) The hybrid service model is a bit confusing and certainly inconvenient. Technology could certainly help smooth this out. 3) To pay, you either have to pay in full (and tip) when you order, or have to wait in line at the same line where people are ordering in order to pay, 4) 3 single bathrooms are not enough for the peak capacity Aside from the wonderful beer selection, the highlights were free x-country skiing with a warming hut, plenty of parking and friendly staff.
