Used to be " Down Home " type of place but just got too expensive to go . Good burger for tourists. Not for locals .

Great atmosphere. No question about that. Solid food, decent burgers and chicken, didn't try the hot dogs. Fries good, onion rings very good. On the burger, I'd lean in on the toppings - the burger has a decent flavor, but I found the patty cooked a bit to the dry side, not overly dry but not dripping moist and juicy as is ideally my preference all else held equal. Hank Williams supposedly ate his last meal here, hopefully you will not. read more

Don't believe the hype. Greasy and gave me instant diarrhea. So many better places to eat in Bristol than this one. You may be tempted to eat here based on a legend that Hank Williams stopped here but it's not proved and probably untrue. Excellent burgers. Too often I find too much grease leaking out the bottom of a burger but not here! The burger was perfect! My family and I throughly enjoyed our burgers and fires. The atmosphere is quintessential with dollar bills lining the walls broken up with various accolades. Would certainly return! read more

We were a group of 6 just walking around sightseeing Bristol and happened on this place. It looks like a little hole in the wall burger joint but it's worth stepping in. Not a ton of seating but we were able to sit at the high top next to the window. Gave us an opportunity to do some people watching too. They have a long list of shakes and burgers. My boys got shakes and watched enjoyed them. 2 people got the hotdogs and they were huge. They looked pretty good. 1 person ordered the triple cheese burger and enjoyed it. Great little burger joint which is a "must stop" when we are in Bristol for the Rhythm and Roots Reunion. Their chili dogs are my favorite, plump dogs and tasty chili. So supposedly this place is the place where Hank Williams was last seen on earth. Apparently this diner was a local hangout for the musicians during the birth of country music. I decided to come here on a Saturday to give it a shot. Food: Basically Burger Bar lives up to their name by serving pretty much only burgers and the usual sides, although they do have a few other sandwiches on the menu. I opted for the BZ burger, which is a burger with an egg on top. I asked for medium, but it came out well done. The patty is advertised as a 6 oz patty, although it seemed more towards 8 oz to me, so that was cool. The burger was good, but not outstanding. The patty itself was a little overcooked and not that juicy, but the rest of the burger made up for the patty. I also got Parmesan fries; the Parmesan was great, the fact that the fries came out room temperature and soggy, not so great. It was pretty bad, I didn't even finish it. If the fries came out hot and crispy, it probably would have been a different story. The two sauces it comes with are tasty though. They don't serve beer anymore, so I got the sweet tea instead; it was really good. I also asked for an order of onion rings, but apparently the rings weren't coming out right so the cook decided to stop making them. Someone mentioned a Kobe beef burger for $14 in a yelp review? I didn't see it on the menu....maybe it's a secret menu item. Service: The waitress I had was really attentive and fantastic; she was definitely a very good server. Decor: This place is a very small place; probably could seat 20 people if that? It's not fancy, but it's cool in a nostalgic sort of way. It'd be okay for a date, probably just not the first one. I can recommend trying this place, as the food was relatively good, but not great; I wouldn't mind giving it another shot one of these days if I'm in the area, but I wouldn't make a special trip just to come back. read more

Still my favorite hamburger place, and I'm hoping it will eventually return to glory. Unfortunately, it has dropped off quite a bit lately. Seems to have a different staff? Several young men behind the counter always goofing a bit, with maybe one or two doing the actual work. Skinny kid seems to be on the ball however...don't know his name, but he's the one you want for your sever. Our group regularly goes here at least one weekend night - sometimes multiple. However, lately we've shown up on a Saturday evening to find a hand written sign on the door saying they'd closed early (at 6:00) and things like that. Happened more than once. We've also found lately that if you order, say within the last hour they are open, the food will be bad in some way. Also happened more than once. We used to enjoy eating at the picnic tables outside, but homeless people now seem to hang around there...and will pester you while eating. Staff doesn't run them off. Inexplicable. We now resort to just ordering to go and taking the food to one of the two next door breweries who so far have been forgiving of us bring in our food (with sodas). Of course we also bought beer afterwords to make good. We also tried ordering twice having our food delivered (to Bristol Station Brewery) and ended up with items missing. Please owner / manager - take note of this review! Once again, this was our group's absolute favorite hamburger place. Please bring it back to it's former glory. However, if it's changed hands or something, maybe this review was futile. read more

The Fire God was a hit with my husband and the very 1st burger on the menu AMAZING! Their Aoli sauce was a hit with us too. This round we tried the parm fries these we awesome too. If you're looking for a good burger, this is the place to go! I ordered the half burger as a meal. Meat was cooked well done and it was phenomenal! The French fries were great too. The bathroom is hidden in the back so ask your server if you can't find it. Only comment is that it was super busy during Bristol R&R and people were rushing to eat because someone would be waiting for that table. Will never be back in this place again!! They messed up my husband's burger, put a raw egg on it instead of a well done egg, he took the first bite and the raw yolk shot all over his clothes. He never got an apology, instead he was humiliated in front of a lot of customers because the waitress lied to the cook/manager and caused him to come talk pure trash to my husband!! I understand it's hard to find good help these days, but you really scrapped the bottom of the barrel with these two!!! This was a shame because we really loved coming here, I hope you can find better employees before these two run more good customers away!!!! On food alone, I probably wouldn't go quite to 5 stars, although it is a great burger, but the service is what puts this place over the top for me. I came through Bristol the other day on my way to DC. I always stop there because I have a thing for state lines and it doesn't get much better than State St. I was excited to try the place because it was closed last time I was there. I was greeted by easily the most friendly young server I've ever had. I can't remember his name, but I really wish I could, because he deserves some serious praise. I got a burger and fries for $6, and it was well worth it. Definitely a diner burger if there ever was one. I soaked up plenty of grease before I dug in. It was very well cooked and seasoned, and the fries we perfectly done. I will absolutely be going back on probably every trip I make through the city. Stopped into Burger Bar (on recommendation) while traveling to Tri-Cities Airport. This recently remodeled iconic diner is a quaint gem. Enjoyed the "Your Cheatin' Heart Burger": The YCHB consisted of Burger + secret sauce + green chilies + sauteed mushrooms + grilled onions + cheese (I went with the pepperjack cheese). Delicious burger. The meat is a locally raised grass fed beef. The fix'ins were all top notch. Also enjoyed the parmesan fries as a side. Burgers range in price from $4 to $7. There is a kobe beef burger at $14. All of the entree names reflect a Hank Williams song/theme. Rumor has it that ol' Hank shared his last meal here. Topped off the above with a $3 draft Bud. Gotta love a large plastic cup of icy cold draft with a juicy burger. Good stuff. They do have freshly made shakes and malts here............maybe next time. Enjoy. read more

Overall, very good. Burger was good but on the dry side. (The cook committed the 'unforgiveable sin' of burger cooking; namely, he repeatedly pressed the burger after it was cooking, squeezing all of the flavorful juice any much of the flavor out of the patty.) I ordered the double cheeseburger with fries. $9.99! Yikes! Add a soft drink and tax and the bill was over $13 plus tip. Too much for lunch. The fries were hot and crispy, very good. And the wait staff was friendly and very attentive. I overheard the manager bragging up his Reuben sandwich, stating that he made the corned beef fresh in house. This is an awesome place. I found it while out looking for some place to have a nice breakfast during race weekend. Pancakes and bacon were fantastic. The biscuit and gravy were homemade awesomeness. They have been in business since 1942, and still has original décors. It feels like you stepped back in time. I'm coming back to Bristol just for the food. read more
