I love a greasy spoon cafe/diner. So I gave Sloopys a try. Authentic old school short order grill diner feel. To my surprise this greasy spoon is not all that greasy - in a good way! I have been here twice in two weeks. My 8 year old is asking to go back. The first time I had the Philly, it was good, not a cheese steak from Philly but still good. Onion Rings = A+ Kids sliders = A+ Fries were crispy The second time The wife and I had the Jalapeño Burger There is nothing new here with the burger - unless you call Fresh and delicious new! A few years again while in Yellowstone we got a burger that was amazing, locally sourced fresh beef etc. This is the first burger since that has the same quality. A snack shop kinda place, reminds me of the lake snack shop when I was a kid. Very personable and friendly staff and owners. Everything was clean inside. Vintage tin signs is the decor. Reasonable prices. I had the small cheese burger and tator tots. The burger was a good size and if had been served to me as a regular burger I wouldn't have thought it was small. It was good. It was cooked well and the fixins were all fresh. I had to remove a star though because it was a preformed patty and had that compressed texture they all have. As I said though, it was good, pretty high quality for a preformed. It was seasoned well. The amount of tator tots was appropriate. I'll be back to try some of their other things. Sloopy's is one of our must visits when we visit Kingsport. We have been eating at Sloopy's for years. The employees are always friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual. The food is really good too. They have great burritos, burgers, tater tots and hot dogs. Our favorite is the fish tacos. I highly recommend Sloopy's and give it a 9/10 rating. read more

Grilled Cheese was half cooked. A grilled cheese used to be a staple. My daughter did not like her burger. The tater tots were still delicious. Prices are a little outrageous. Get there 10 minutes later and wait 20, the rude older lady behind the counter was too busy talking so she let me food sit for 20 MINUTES and made me late for work since she didn't check to see what food was ready. It's an old fashion hamburger stand that you temper from when you were a kid. Do not let that fool you! Nicest staff ever. The manager Matt was friendly and all smiles. He knows his regulars by name. I had a BLT. Great sandwich, plenty of bacon and the bread was toasted. My husband had the Chilly burger. The chilly cheese s made from scratch and was just spicy enough. We ordered tater tots extra crispy and he delivered. When I order them other places they say they will and they don't. I asked about the chicken salad and it's made in house. That's my next pick. Once a month my friends and I pick a new restaurant to try around the area. This month we chose Sloopys in Kingsport. It is a small local place and it was a pure delight. The decor was homey and welcoming. The staff was all very engaging and helpful. We loved the place and hadn't even eaten or ordered yet. All three of us ordered the patty melt special with fries and drink. Now, anyone who has ever had a patty melt knows they are either really good or really bad. Sloopys was excellent. The flavor was taste bud electric and just juicy enough to be mouthwatering. I prefer crinkle cut fries as I feel they are the best fries and theirs were phenomenal and plentiful. We had nice conversations with several staff members and as I realized when I got home, lost my cash as it must have fallen out of my pocket. I called and they not only had my money secured for me but, remembered who we were. This is a definite new local favorite. The tots were a little skimpy in my opinion compared to other places where you can get tots. I counted like 10 tots (they are small) piled up under the burger in a smallish cardboard container. My wife got a burger and onion rings and they gave her like 5 small/medium rings. My expectations from a diner is a large pile of carbs to accompany a burger. While they let me down there, the burger quality more than made up for it. The diner was clean and well maintained, too. Great conference option! In town for a conference and we were looking for an option that wasn't a chain. Sloopy's was such a refreshing option to the usual restaurant! The owner was present and gave us an overview of the menu as well as a brief history of the restaurant. The food was amazing. Our group of 7 tried the fried bologna sandwich, the burrito, cheese steak, fried pickle, burgers and 2 in our group even took the challenge. Local diner with cheap eats and friendly staff. We were staying at a nearby hotel and decided to try it. I had the tuna melt and fried pickles, both were great but a salty combination. The tuna melt was served on Texas toast. My fiance had the chicken parm sub which were two fried chicken breast topped with marinara sauce and cheese. He enjoyed it! My first experience was not pleasant. Today is 10/03/2019, it is lunchtime. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger, fries and and drink. $11. & change. I had to remove the hamburger pattie, not sure what it was made from but not good beef hamburger. I did eat the bun with the lettuce, tomato, onion, ketchup, mustard and shredded cheese though. Great place to grab a quick bite. Low prices and decent sized portions. Not a ton of seating so if it looks busy you may struggle but it is a small town diner. Sloopy Burger was great, everything was cooked fresh. My girlfriend got the chicken tenders and they were huge! Not over cooked, juicy and she liked them especially for the price.
