I can't say enough good things about this place. The food, the atmosphere & the people are amazing.

We met my parents here for what was supposed to be a late breakfast/brunch situation, but ended up being lunch. We found out after we sat down that they stop serving breakfast at 11:30 am on Fridays, in order to prep the kitchen for all the fish frying they do. The restaurant feels like you'd expect for a place called "Pop's"; very homey, a little old-fashioned, but comfortable. We snagged a table for four to wait for my parents to arrive, and the nicest waitress I've ever met brought us coffee and water. (The coffee was surprisingly good, by the way.) Once my parents arrived, we were able to order: Chicken Fried Steak, corn bread and macaroni & cheese and potato salad for me (plus a bonus biscuit brought by our kind waitress); French Dip sandwich for my husband; chicken livers with corn and mashed potatos for mom (don't judge her...I already did haha); beef steak with mashed potatoes and tater tots for dad. My husband also ordered a plate of the spicy pickles for the table, though my mom - who will eat fried chicken livers at 12 pm on a Thursday - refused to touch them. The pickles came out quickly, and were served with two spicy ranch and one regular ranch for dipping. My dad, husband and I went to town on them - crispy, perfectly fried and paired well with the sauces - while my mom looked on. It didn't take long for the menfolk to clear the plate of pickles, so we waited. And we waited. And then we waited some more. Our waitress stopped by a few times to refill our coffee and water, and to give us updates on the food. She did apologize that it was taking so long, at least. Once the food did come out, we all fairly fell on our plates. The chicken fried steak was decent, and had some good flavor. The mac and cheese was good, the potato salad was zesty. The biscuit was big and fluffy on the inside, with a slight crisp to the crust. Perfect. My least favorite thing was the cornbread muffin, it was bland to me. Everybody else loved their meals, though my mom kept saying how big the serving was. It was like the kitchen took every chicken liver they had in the fridge, fried it up and dumped it on her plate. There was no way she was going to eat everything, so she pushed some over to my husband, the only other human at that table who would have been inclined to help her with her meal. If you are looking for down home Southern cooking this is the place for you. I understand that they've had the same cooks and owners and staff for quite a long time and they get to know their customers and treat them like friends. These folks are really doing a good job at serving the large crowd that comes for breakfast. They have a wide array of side dishes including vegetables, which is great and keeps it on the healthier side if you chose some of them. They don't rush you out either. Definitely a comfortable staple for homey food. read more

Stopped in for lunch. First sign was the extra 3.5% charge for card users then the seat yourself sign. We found a corner both and waited 10 minutes for a server. Didn't seem like they wanted to serve us. Mostly elderly couples having lunch. We ordered sandwiches with chips, fries, and onion rings. Sandwiches where good but onion rings where just terrible. The batter was so salty we could not eat them. Atmosphere was very dour and staff not very friendly. I thought about giving 2 stars. But the sandwiches where good. read more

This place is an anomaly in a great way! Went here for lunch with a coworker. We split the fried pickles that has some pepper but not spicy. You can tell they are hand dipped in house and fresh. Hamburger was spot on. My friends savory corn bread was very good. Im usually a jiffy sweet corn bread kind of girl but I really enjoyed this. Check this place out! Price is nice! read more

We found a gem in the back of a BP Station. We had the fish platter and boy the hushpuppies are the bomb! If you want a clean restaurant you have found it. Fast service and good country food. We will be back and I am excited to try breakfast. read more

This restaurant is a little hole in the wall right behind a gas station. Easily missed if you're not paying attention. My mom told me we used to come here when I was a kid and wanted to stop by for breakfast here since we were in town. It's relatively quiet and the decor is home style and cozy. It's seat yourself so we just found an empty table in the back. Our server was very friendly and accommodating. After looking over the menu i decided to order the sirloin steak breakfast. I had to make sure to specify 'sirloin' because if you just say steak breakfast they will bring you country fried steak. I ordered it medium rare and it came with eggs, toast, and hash browns. The food came out quickly. I was quite surprised since the place was just about full. The steak was gray and pretty lifeless but I kept my hopes up that it would taste better than it looked, especially for a 10 buck breakfast. My hopes quickly diminished as I took my first bite. Salt and pepper can go a long way on a steak, but this poor piece of meat didn't even have that. The eggs were decent, the hash browns were greasy, and the toast was way over buttered... but that was probably the highlight of the meal. My mom ordered the 2 tenderloin and egg breakfast. She said it was good even though she thought she was ordering steak (turns out the tenderloin was pork) I'm giving three stars (barely) for the service and my mom enjoying her meal. It might be nostalgic for my family but if I can avoid it I probably won't come here again. read more

Pops is just good comfort food at a good price. They recently stopped opening on Sundays (Boo!) but I understand its just so the people working there can go to church with their families. Considering Pops is attached to the back of a gas station & kind of hidden from the road, we were pleasantly surprised to find a sweet breakfast place on an early Sunday morning. Nice servers, good menu with variety. Good wss good, nothing fancy but it's worth the trip. Not many local places open on an early Sunday morning so we were happy. We will be back. read more

For a restaurant in a gas station, this place is pretty good. I LOVE their club sandwich platter. In fact, me and my dad meet up once in a while for a club sandwich at Pop's. I have also heard they have great breakfast. read more
