#71 Steakhouse Black Pepper
Ritvik N.

Juicy burger joint sequestered in the heart of Loudoun Station. Buttressed by Blackfinn Pub and Famous Toastery, a solid go-to movie theater right around the corner, and the brand spanking new metro station in Ashburn within walking distance. I came around noon, debating on brunch at FT or a quick-and-easy lunch at B-21, my fave local spot to grab a burger at. I decided to cast caution to the wind, and play shotgun roulette with B-21. I swung by here, and was presented with a near-deserted ambiance and a non-existent line. This place sorely needs more patrons, if you ask me. I rolled the 20-sided dice yet again, and went with the Steakhouse Black Pepper (#71) -- a limited time burger, and a likewise signature shake to go hand-in-hand with it -- the Triple Shot Espresso. At the end, I was presented with one of those fancy flag things that flagrantly flew my order number -- #69. Right on, brotha. I would've preferred a digit higher though -- almost hitting the nail on the head, my fave number knocking right next door. Wait was not bad. I chose one of those fancy, four-seater booths adjoining the window. Milkshake arrived first, with presentation on top-tier level. Black, chocolate-coated espresso beans with what looked like cinnamon sprinkled atop it. I had a few sips, and it truly hit the spot, on what felt like the warmest day in the cold, biting heart of Virginia winter. The burger arrived later, shadowing the footsteps of the shake. Luxurious angus beef patty, Swiss cheese riddled with miniature holes that would even make a mouse proud, smoked bacon that skirted the edge of grandeur, and a brioche bun that provided the fitted icing on a medium-rare and well-seasoned cake. While I ate and drank my milkshake in the warm and languorous peace, I thought about my experiences, life choices, and a little of everything. I appreciate the peace that the atmosphere offered me, on a deep and altogether personal level. Burger, pretty solid and a home run in terms of presentation alone. Milkshake, never tried but a signature and unforgettable flavor. All in all, solid experience at B-21. Burgers here are reasonably priced, and have never let me down so far.

$41 for 2 burgers, 2 fries and a tip is A LOT! But they were good. We got the OMG burgers w/ egg and the shared fries, half regular, half sweet potato. We tried the apple cider and toasted marshmallow sauces as recommended with the sweet potato fries, and DAMN! Perfect complement! They're definitely made to order, so be patient. They don't take terribly long, but it's not fast food fast, either. Enjoyed it!

Great customer service and was very helpful and kept the place clean. Menu is simple yet decent and has awesome options. I ordered the sliders got the shareable fries which is still A LOT for just two people. They have a huge selection of sauces for your food and I was amazed at how good they actually tasted. Normally, places that have numerous sauces have a lot that are just "ok". B21 all except one tasted delicious and my favorite was the Thai Ketchup!! Definitely will return to try the milkshakes and sweet potato fries.

Probably should not have ordered a salad at a burger joint but c'est la vie....my son and I stopped in before going to Christmas Village at Leesburg Animal Park. It was a Tuesday around 5:15pm and it was pretty empty. Order at the counter, pay, and they bring out the food. My son had the cheeseburger kids meal with fries and an Honest berry lemonade. He ate all the fries (which I vouch were tasty), but his burger was on the burnt side. My salad left a LOT to be desired. It had no nuts on it or romaine lettuce as noted in the description. It was all iceberg and very little goat cheese. The chicken was cold and rubbery-seemed like it came out of a Tysons bag. The one thing that was good was the sauce bar. The spicy Thai ketchup was delicious. I probably would not return based on this visit if I were in the area. Should have gone to chick-fil-a.....

Melt Gourmet Cheeseburgers

MELT Gourmet Cheeseburgers must be operated by culinary lunatics. I mean that as the highest…read morepossible compliment. A normal person looks at a hamburger and asks, "Would you like cheese on that?" The people at MELT apparently look at one and ask, "How can we make this so extraordinary that customers begin questioning whether everything they previously called a burger was actually just meat occupying bread?" I ordered the Paris Burger: Premium beef char-grilled with roasted garlic, then topped with melted French Brie, balsamic-glazed onions, baby spinach, and a smear of Dijon mustard on a house-made bun. This ingredient list sounds less like a hamburger and more like several upscale appetizers became trapped in an elevator and decided to form a government. I do not know what kind of inspired nut job first assembled this combination, but everything contributes to everything else. The Brie, roasted garlic, sweet richness of the balsamic-glazed onions, spinach, and Dijon do not compete for attention; they cooperate with suspicious precision. The flavor is exquisite. This should not be placed in the same category as ordinary burgers unless the category is titled "Round Foods That Technically Contain Beef." And then there is the bun. Most hamburger buns eventually choose one of two career paths: Damp sponge or roofing material. This one rejected both. It was cooked to that nearly mythical point between soft and soggy, firm and crunchy. It supported the burger without collapsing, disintegrating, or scraping the roof of my mouth like an edible Brillo pad. Perfection. For a side, I ordered the sweet potato fries. They were already very good, which apparently was considered insufficient by the resident mad scientists. Someone had the completely unreasonable idea of serving them with marshmallow fluff. Marshmallow fluff. With sweet potato fries. This sounds like a suggestion made at 2:00 a.m. by someone who should have been politely escorted away from the kitchen. Instead, that person may be a genius. The combination is incredible. The salty sweet potato fries dipped in marshmallow fluff produced one of those moments when your brain objects on principle while your hand quietly reaches for another fry. This proves that not every insane idea is crazy; some merely require dipping sauce. I also had the Thin Mint shake, which was excellent except for the only legitimate complaint I could manufacture during the entire meal: It came with an ordinary straw. Every attempt to drink it became a small plumbing emergency when a piece of Thin Mint lodged in the opening. Sip, blockage, investigate, clear obstruction, repeat. I was not drinking a milkshake so much as performing routine maintenance on a delicious cookie pipeline. A proper milkshake straw would eliminate the one defect in an otherwise outstanding operation. This was not merely a good meal from a burger joint. It was a culinary experience disguised as casual food. The Paris Burger was phenomenal, the fries and marshmallow fluff were an act of benevolent madness, and even my complaint involves the shake containing too many actual pieces of Thin Mint to pass through standard beverage infrastructure. MELT is almost worth traveling to Virginia for by itself. If the people running this place are insane, nobody intervene. Whatever treatment would make them normal might ruin the menu.

I stumbled onto this spot on a whim, and the setup immediately struck me as legit. I'll admit I was…read morea little nervous walking in -- we dropped $45 on two burgers, one fry, and a beer, so expectations were high. The nerves come from the fact that I consider myself a "Burger God." I've hunted down some of the best burger joints the country -- and the world -- has to offer, so I was trusting this place to deliver. Right away, the dressing felt sloppy. The cold toppings were piled on top of the meat, pulling heat out of the patty fast. The beef itself was fresh and juicy, but the bun paid the price -- soaking up oil and fat until it lost all structural integrity. You can see it in the photo: completely flattened. Summary: Melt Gourmet's burgers are genuinely good, and it starts with the quality of beef they source. Where they're leaving points on the table is in how the burger is dressed -- and a stronger hand with seasoning would take it even further. The patty itself was a little under-seasoned, but the freshness of the beef and the crunch of the LTOP (lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle) kept me engaged. Fresh-baked buns daily are another point in their favor, enough to bump my score from a 6 to a 7. What kept it from climbing higher was the construction: the way it's dressed and presented practically guarantees a mess with the first bite. The fix is simple -- onions, pickles, and lettuce should sit directly on the bottom bun, with tomato layered above them. Stacking the wet ingredients on top instead cools the cheese and patty fast, and every bite sends juice running rather than staying put. The result is flavor that ends up on your forearm instead of your tongue.

Patrons are mostly locals and repeat customers, which I love. They do Thursday evening football games and have some soccer affinity too. Usually there's ice hockey playing as well. Ragz loves their chilli burgers and gets one pretty much every time. I usually get their quesadilla. They are very good with customizing orders for me - for example, I ask for less chicken and lots of veggies in my quesadilla and they always get it right. I also like their soups, which rotate. The chicken and rice is a good one, as is the tomato soup. Not a huge fan of the wings I have tried so far, honestly. Service is great. Ashley is my fav! When they arrived they seemed oddly small for what you would expect, more so trimmings than "Steak Tips." For dinner I was between a couple of items, but I rushed myself to order the Steak and Cheese. When it arrived it appeared that I received the previously mentioned "steak tips" sandwiched between bread, with some condiments and cheese. Maybe I should have read the description a bit more carefully or maybe I expected something more typical of a Steak and Cheese. I did want to order the steak tacos after both, just to see if they were the same. Someone please let me know.
