Margherita Flatbread and Nachos
Troy C.

Going to the Burgee Bar when staying at the Ocean Reef Club is a must. It's located in the Fishing Village and has fantastic views of the harbor. Since the last time I went there, it seems like there menu has changed quite a bit. As a result, I decided to try both the Margherita Flatbread and the nachos. Both did not disappoint! The margherita flatbread was a great size and unlike other flatbreads I have had in the past, it is actually round shaped which made it taste so much better! The nachos were also great and unique! The different cheeses as well as the assortment of toppings made for a great appetizer. Several menu options I have enjoyed in the past were no longer on the menu so that is the only downside I had about my experience. However, I can't wait to go again in the future!

OK per comments from other Yelpers, please note this restaurant as well as all the amenities on the property of Ocean Reef Club are for members only. You cannot dine at any of the restaurants, use the amenities , book a hotel room or anything else unless you are a member, with a member of ORC or with a corporate group that has booked space there. Just an FYI. We arrived later tonight for our week stay and decided to do something casual on property. This was a place we had not eaten during our previous visits. It was loud to say the least in the bar area where we were seated. We could barely hear one another but could hear the rowdy crowd in the bar. I am not sure what happened with the long standing ORC dress code, but there were plenty of violations of that tonight. Anyhow, on to the food. I quizzed the waitress about the seafood being wild caught and she promised everything but the salmon was. Hubby and I decided to share a Cobb salad with modifications to start. The ingredients were really fresh but the dressing was very garlicky which was not good for me. Overall though a good salad. I chose the Mahi tacos and I was pretty disappointed. The fish was really fishy. I was not impressed. Not sure about the quality or freshness of this dish. My hubby chose the French dip sandwich and fries and he was happy. I can tell you I stole more than a few fries from his plate and they were awesome! We tried the cookie/brownie sundae for dessert and OMG this is one of the biggest desserts I have ever seen. Four people could easily eat this and be happy. Our server was nice but there were some fine dining things that didn't happen here. When you pay the price for everything you do at ORC, you expect the best. Our meal fell way short of that. We will probably pop in again during our stay and hope for a better experience.

Burgee Bar is a great casual pub-themed restaurant in Ocean Reef. It's a dim-light atmosphere with a lot of TVs, pool tables, large bar, game room for kids, and outdoor seating. We enjoyed this spot for a late-night dinner. The blackened snapper was excellent! I would definitely recommend this spot!

Blueberry beet salad! So delicious! Lots of nuts and cheese on the bottom of the bowl.

Great service, fast and attentive. Menu selections are really good! We also had wings and chicken noodle soup which were amazing. The drink selection is great though my husband was disappointed his margarita was small with too much ice it tasted fantastic! We've had the flatbread before and are huge fans. The ambiance is great with large tvs they are happy to put your game on if you ask. Casual and fun! The hostess was super cool.

I was at Ocean Reef and decided to stop off at Burgee Bar for a quick and casual meal after playing some tennis outside. I was at Ocean Reef during June, which is offseason for them, but the restaurant still had a nice amount of customers. However, there was nobody sitting outside, so I decided just to sit inside, especially because of the humidity. I sat down in a comfortable booth near the sports bar, which was showing a variety of entertaining games and programs including Sportscenter, Baseball Night in America and the Women's World Cup. I started off with the French Onion Soup, which came out steaming hot. I didn't find it to be spectacular, especially because it did not have a ton of cheese on top, which I like. Further, while the soup had a lot of onions, the soup lacked much flavor. Rather, it just tasted like steaming hot broth with hints of onion. While I would have liked to have finished the soup, I could not because my entree cane out and I felt rather rushed. I ordered the Margarita flatbread for my entree and it was very large. In fact, it was so large that I was unable to finish it. However, it was very tasty. The flatbread had a nice crunch to it and there was the perfect ratio of cheese to sauce. The tomatoes and basil on top were also a nice touch. The bartender Matt was great and the server Caroline was very sweet and nice. Altogether, the Burgee Bar is a nice, casual restaurant at the Ocean Reef and is right on the water.

Admittedly we visited Ocean Reef during the off-season, I have a feeling this spot would be crazy when it's peek time, especially since it's one of the more laid-back dress-code-wise. Not crazy about the number of kids, but fairly well-behaved ;). We ate here a couple of times, both times the food was expensive, but great. The tuna nachos were awesome as was the salmon poke bowl, bison burger and crab/artichoke dip. Super tasty drinks too and a huge bar! The prices are definitely up there, but include tax/tip as it's all on the member card, club is cashless. I would probably be closer to 3- or 3.5-stars, but Tiffany and the other staff pushed me up a bit to 4. Reading the other reviews I can only imagine that they have made changes to staff and food ;).

Elite modern review:…read more Very modern and trendy place to be. Perfect for young adults and college crowds looking to have a great time. The music was on point, creating an energetic vibe all night. The bar setup was amazing, fast service and great drinks. Overall, a fun atmosphere with good energy, stylish crowd, and a place I would definitely come back to.

It is a little tricky to find it, once you find the parking lot, it is super confusing as to where you enter. There are two floors and multiple doors. Finally someone directed us up the stairs and to the back of the building. We were greeted and given menus fairly quickly, but it took an extraordinarily long time to get our food that day. The hollandaise sauce was atypical as it tasted like there was cheese in it. The smoked salmon on a bagel tasted okay, but fell apart when it was picked up. The breakfast burrito lacked a lot of flavor. The blueberry pancake, although slightly overcooked, was actually very good. The bacon and fried potatoes were not crisp, as I prefer them. So if you like crispy bacon and fried potatoes, ask for that when placing your order. The windows and floors are dirty and the women's bathroom had a round hole with a dirty sock stuck in it on the floor. I actually tripped over it. And the bathroom could have been much cleaner. With a few improvements, Sharkeys could be more appealing to tourists going through and visiting the Keys.

Went in for their happy hour and ordered the smoked wings. It was a great deal for 6 good size wings for only $5. You can't get a wing for under a dollar anymore these days so I decided to try them out since they're a BBQ spot and probably smoked the wings pretty good. I was surprised to find out that they make their own blue cheese and ranch sauces. They were super good and haven't had great ranch and blue cheese sauce with a bunch of decent sized blue cheese chunks in a while. I also tried their BBQ sauce and it wasn't bad, not too sweet and pretty smokey. Great deals on a pint ($5) and pitcher ($16) of Florida Keys Brewing Co beers. I think it may even beat the actual brewery's prices. I noticed their AC was blowing pretty good and strong. It was a cooler day when I went so I got a little chilly but I'm sure that is a huge bonus when it's the hot summer time there. The bartender was busy with all the football games playing on the big TVs but she was attentive and seemed to have given me the best service she could. I was very pleased with this establishment and would like to come back again.

Everyone seemed to be playing. We arrived to late to join. The place was packed yet there were only two servers. Our server was running around like a chicken with her head cut off. However she managed to keep up with out party of 9. There were times we were waiting for assistance however we could see she wasn't just sitting on her ass. We order burgers, flat breads, tenders and steak tacos. Steak tacos were horrible Burgers were delicious Flatbread were good Tenders definitely looked like they were frozen tenders from the grocer. The beverages were nice not too strong but not weak. We were kinda profiled however as a black person you get use to it. My husband and brother stepped out for a smoke break..although everyone else was still seated at the table. We watched security run out after them. We laughed cause they looked stupid. When security ran out there they pretended to be looking at something when they noticed they guys were right outside the door. Irish pub we didn't expect any less. However it was kinds funny how the guy darted out after them then aimlessly looked around after he realized they were smoking a cigarette ‍

I realized that I had not actually been to this location since it was The Playwright (or whatever it was called) 4 or 5 years ago. The updated interior is nice - very "pubby" - and they offer a good variety of seating from bar seats to high-tops to couches. Two things here that were standouts: First, the burger is one of the best burgers I've had on South Beach. So much so that I'm craving it again this morning. They've done a good job with the menu in that it still has all those bar foods that you look for in a place like this, but they've put some thought into elevating a number of items (e.g. the short rib poutine!) Second, the service was great. Our server (sorry, can't remember his name - a nice guy from Kendall) was very friendly and provided excellent service. As many reviews mention, this is definitely a place to watch a game. While we weren't there for this purpose last night, the TV setup is great and I could def see myself camping out there with a few beers on a weekend afternoon. As someone who lives in the neighborhood, I'll be back again for sure.

We ate inside (Floridians like us know better than to expose ourselves to the heat and No See Um's outside at dusk). We thoroughly enjoyed the inside ambiance. Well done. The spacious patio out back did also actually look nice. I wanted to give this 5 stars but my husband was not impressed by the taste (or lack thereof) of his bacon burger so I had to take away a star. I had a delicious Woodrow Chicken sandwich piled high with their signature onions and bbq sauce. When they brought it out, I wondered how I could possibly get the huge thing into my mouth. It was enormous (see photo) and tasty. I cut it in half and ate leftovers the next day. Service was good except our waitress did seem to struggle a bit. She either could not hear us or did not understand us (language issue?). At least she kept asking us until she understood. I do appreciate that. We were skeptical but our order came out right, yippee! We even splurged by getting dessert. Can't pass up chocolate cake when it appears on the menu (rarely). It was a beautiful presentation (see photo)! Next time you are in Key Largo, give these folks a try. You won't be disappointed.
