My family has been to buns in the past and however it's been a while and we thought we would try it again. Sooo, we tried it again and decided to go out for dinner. The food was just okay. That's being generous. I got the Rueben sandwich (11.00) and the menu said it was smothered with sauerkraut (see below). The sandwich had very little sauerkraut on it, I had to ask for the dressing and it only had two slices of meat. What a joke. My husband got the chicken parmesan ( $16) and he said it was okay, not much flavor. Another member of the family got a burger and said it was dry. Mashed potatoes had no flavor as well. The indoor restaurant space was nothing special, dark and lifeless. The outdoor area was very nice with an outdoor bar. If you're going there to drink, you'll enjoy yourself. If going for dinner. Four of us went on Easter where they had a special menu to choose from. The prime rib was so over cooked it looked like leather and very dry. The stuff flounder I was told would be stuffed with crab meat. The stuffing was 98% breading and 2% imitation crab meat. Not very good and tasted as if it sat under a warmer for an extended amount of time. Garlic mash potatoes very good. Took 2.5 hours fro When we sat down to when we left. Very disappointed in this place. Ate here pre Covid and was very good. Lived up to reviews. Came in for lunch. My wife wanted the meat loaf that they are supposed to be known for and the garlic potatoes had sour cream in them. The alternative vegetable had cheese and we could not get a baked potato. So she ordered a salad to go with meat loaf. Ugh I ordered lasagna and fish and chips so my wife would have something besides salad and meat loaf. The meat loaf came out cold and dry I suspect it was left over from the day before. The fish was frozen and the fries were cold. The worst was the lasagna. It came in a bowl and was soupy There were almost no lasagna pasta. Should have come with a spoon Also it was served with no bread but on the positive side it was no cold When we got the bill they had charged us dinner prices instead of lunch. They fixed this for all items except one where they continued to charge the dinner price but we decided to leave and not make an issue.The waitress was nice and did finally bring some bread when I was pretty much finished I don't know if Covid had anything to do with their demise but if you want fish go to Culver's. One of the guys in our party ordered a Reuben sandwich and no kidding one half of the sandwich had maybe one small slice of corned beef on it. He complained to waitress and manager and especially the manager seemed to care less. Waitresses finally brought out a few slices of cold corned beef to put on his sandwich which was of no help. No offers to make it right. Also two of us had burgers and wasn't asked how we wanted them and they came back well, well done. Won't be going back! read more

Used to attend this place years ago when it had a sterling reputation. Went back for a nostalgic reminder of childhood. Was greeted with a sparse crowd and inattentive staff. After we sat down 10 minutes went by whilst staff carried on conversations with each other and customers, while our drink order was not placed. Will not be returning. read more

My boyfriend and I and his parents came to dinner last week and though our server was really great, everything else was VERY disappointing. My boyfriend and I got 2 different meals so we could share and try things we both wanted. He got the fish dinner and I got the BBQ bacon burger. The fish was so incredibly tough I couldn't cut it with a fork. It was terrible. The coleslaw was cabbage and vinegar and absolutely no seasoning at all we both had to spit it out. The bacon on the burger was so limp I could wrap it around my fork..absolutely was not eaten. We both had fries and they tasted like they had been made hours ago. All of this was expressed to our server with the utmost of respect and kindness but nothing was done about it. He talked to the cook or someone and all that was said was the bacon was not uncooked because they use precooked bacon. Even precooked bacon needs to be crisped. Nothing else was addressed or said and our bill was $35 for two horrible meals. His parents were not thrilled with their meals either. I am very disappointed that it was so bad and absolutely will not be back. None of us will be. No apologies, no discount for meals we couldn't eat..nothing. We visited yesterday with family members. As others have recently commented this place is not what it used to be. A zero star would be in order. The place was nearly empty mid afternoon. It took a few minutes for them to get a table ready to seat us? Waitress clearly didn't have a clue as she didn't have anything to take our orders and was distressed that we asked to see menu's. Once we ordered our bar drinks she needed to ask multiple times what we wanted clearly she didn't understand a simple Vodka/Tonic request.She came back 3 times to ask us and confirm what we ordered to drink. Our drinks took over and hour to get. No water served. The bartender was also not educated on how to make drinks. The Moscow mule was in copper mug but had 1 shot of vodka and 1 shot of Ginger beer that's it. When asked if they forgot to fill the mug with the other ingredients we were told that the bartender said this is how a Moscow Mule is made. The food was horrible. It was 90 minutes to get our dinners. Many items not available. Salmon was so fishy it was inedible. Turkey was cold, fish and chips were out of a box. Chicken kabobs were the best thing ordered by our group. Barbeque pork chops special was OK. Please do not go to Bun's! Clearly no management, no training and they don't care if you are happy or not. Keeping in mind that Delaware has few good dining choices, Bun's is a Delaware institution, and they have a really nice patio, they deserve at least 3 stars. Yes, the menu needs some updating but the meatloaf is good. Before dinner, they bring a bread board with a loaf of white bread and sunflower seed bread with an herb butter and plain butter. The sunflower seed bread and the herb butter are good. I had the stuffed flounder which was stuffed with shrimp and crabmeat and was good. Each main course at dinner includes one or two sides such as a vegetable or garlic smashed potatoes. The dinner prices tend to be in the mid teens. Food arrived quickly and our server was friendly. I stopped into Bun's for a late lunch with a buddy on Saturday. It wasn't busy, but it was after 1:00, and raining. The facility is really nice, with a large and cozy bar and inside dining area, and one of the best covered patios I've seen in a while. The location is excellent too, being just off of the main drag in Delaware. That's why I gave them 2 stars instead of 1. The service was adequate, but not great, and the food was a disappointment. I ordered a staple of pub dining - the fish and chips. It ended up consisting of two frozen and heavily battered formed-fish patties like you can buy in the grocery store, and some small, coated wedge style potatoes that obviously came from the same freezer. This may be one of the easiest meals to produce using fresh ingredients, and this was a real disappointment. My friend ordered the signature Bun Burger, and he was not impressed either. The meat was dry, and everything looked like it was tossed onto the plate from across the room. I haven't been here before - primarily because of previous reviews - so I can't say for sure if this is normal, or if they were just having an off day. That said, the decision to trust the Gorton's Fisherman rather than use fresh ingredients is enough for me to assume that lots of bad choices have been made in the kitchen. This is the first time I've been to Buns in many years, since before the fire. We were in downtown Delaware for the Winter summer night music series and decided to try dinner on their patio. We were seated on the patio, our server stopped by to tell us she would be back "in a minute" and then vanished like Harry Houdini himself couldn't pull off. We were waiting over 35 minutes ( I know this because I had a call from the restaurant telling us our table was ready) and no server. I drink order. No food order. I finally asked the hostess if we could get someone to take our order and she also disappeared. I finally ordered our food from the bar so we would have something to eat. I had visions of a beautiful plate of ham loaf as I remembered it from years ago, but the Wednesday night menu was very limited to burgers and wings. Sigh. My wife and I visited Bun's for the first time since we built a home in Delaware two years ago. We had been influenced by prior reviews and comments. We arrived on a Thursday evening-5pm-and were seated in the main dining area. Immediate service by a friendly and informative waitress. My wife had plain chicken breast dinner as she is gluten-free. I had the 24 ounce NY strip. Both meals were delicious and well accompanied. The prices were very fair and service was excellent. Can't rate the food because we left before the food arrived. We waited 45 minutes and the appetizer never arrived. We ordered cocktails and beer but the bar was so slow we had to order the next drink as soon as they brought the first one and still we waited. We sat with a clear view of the bar and they were doing nothing except for the older gentleman who kept getting himself another beer. They could care less about paying customer. We feel sorry for the wait staff and even suggested they find a better place to work. read more

My husband and I had the worst meal at this place since it got taken over.... Tried the breakfast this morning, which was overpriced, and the eggs were not cooked. My husband came home not feeling well and is now vomiting with diarrhea. I suspect salmonella. If his symptoms or fever get much worse, we're headed to urgent care. I had the pleasure of dining here a few days ago. I had liver and onions, and mom had Monterey Chicken. The service was spot on, the bread basket was delightful, the atmosphere was just this side of high end fine dining, and the prices were very moderate This place is probably the best bang for the buck in Delaware, Ohio. Two stars just because the outdoor bar area is nice. The food is simply the worst in town, notably only people 60+ go there to eat, I can't imagine anyone under 40 eating there. Poor quality food, service is hit or miss even when they aren't busy. Disappointing the owners seem to have thrown in the towel, waiting on retirement. We have been coming to Buns for almost 10 years. This evening we stopped with my 94 year old father at 6:45 pm. We put our name in and we're told 10 to 15 min. We checked back in 10 min later and the hostess said she was seating the party ahead of us and would be back for us. 10 min later we checked again and were told they were not seating anyone else tonight. Pretty cool place in Delaware. I do like their gyro platter pretty well. It's not like you're traditional gyro but the meat was loaded on the plate and the pita was cut into fourths I believe. I found this a bit strange the first time but I've grown to love it. Very cool bar area so sit there. The entryway dining hall is a bit dark and too "formal" I guess. Back to the bar area, it has roll up garage doors for good weather and a patio for summer. Prices are good and service has been on par for the most part but there is one waitress that is super good but I cannot for the life of me recall her name. Ordered the Gyro Plate and the lamb was so overcooked it looked more like shoe leather than anything even remotely edible. I could not help but wonder how the waitress who served this 'dish' could not have noticed. In addition it was missing the tzatziki sauce. The accompanying French fries were also deep fried to a hard rock consistency. Amazing...As the food was not, in my opinion, even remotely edible I told the waitress who did take it back and returned with a new gyro plate which she described as having juicy meat. We recently went to Buns . When we went in we were told 15 minute wait . There were 5 tables in the dining room . We were told the patio was full and that's where we wanted to sit . 3 other tables came in behind us and was told there was also a wait . They all looked around and noticed the near empty dining room and left . The manager told them to go on a wait . For what ????. We were finally seated in the outside bar area . It was far from full. There were 4 tables out there. There were 3-4 servers . So 3-4 servers can't handle 10 tables total ??? The food was ok . The fries were old and put down in the oil again. Was disappointed that all of the desserts were boxed now . Nothing homemade. I'm afraid being on a weeknight that people were basically being turned away your not going to make it long. We ordered fish and chips and the stuffed shrimp, 45 minutes later the food came out without my companions vegetable medley, which was another 20 minutes. My chips were warm and the fish was just okay. The stuffed shrimp could have baked for a bit longer. They were very busy with tables really close together and the enclosed patio over capacity. Elle our waitress, was really nice but so busy! The busboy was not sanitizing the tables but just wiping all of them down with the same cloth and never touched chairs. First time in Delaware, and we really liked the downtown area. Not at all what we expected. After stopping at the two local breweries, and walking through the town, we spotted the Buns sign hanging in the middle of the street. Never seen a store sign hanging like that. It was a nice day and The patio area looked comfortable, so we decided to give it a try. We had the meatloaf, one of their specialties. It was really good. The sides were quite good too. Plus they served two small loafs of bread, which appeared to be home made, and were delicious. Only slight negative was that server could have been more attentive. A special shout out to Mariah (she said it was Maria with an "H"). This server was one of the best and chances are will find a job elsewhere if the management/owners of this place don't realize that she is really pretty darn good and is a good part of the reason for this 5 star review! There was plenty of parking, which made going here for lunch easy and convenient! The place itself looked as good from the outside as it did from the inside, but the room outside would be the best choice during nice weather. I normally check the restroom out if I think I'm looking at a five star and this was one of those places - happy to report that the people who prepare your food here, have a nice clean restroom as well. That might not mean anything to some, but to me - a clean restroom is a good start and typically means that someone cares, which means the care about many things! The selection on the menu was just the perfect amount and I would have to believe anyone should be able to find something they'd like to try and everything was reasonably priced. My two colleagues ordered some rabbit food (salad) and it came with REAL turkey, which they said was a huge portion and delicious - I guess having a hard boiled egg in the salad made it top notch for them. I on the other hand couldn't really decide so I asked the server what she preferred - after a few choices I ended up with the Bun Burger with saute'd mushroom and onions and it was GREAT! A really nice simple burger cooked perfectly to my specifications. Perhaps the best part of the meal though was the cole slaw - THE MOST AMAZING and FRESH stuff I've ever had! It was so creamy with just the right amount of sweetness and everything was SO fresh - I wouldn't just say I'd go back - I WILL return to this place and most likely two more times this year! I checked some reviews and I'm not surprised by a one star review from a Yelper with hardly any other reviews, friends or pictures. Typically this is a sign of someone who may work for or know someone who works for perhaps a competitor. If this isn't the case - the review or any review less than 3 stars most likely comes from someone that was simply having a bad day. I've gone to many places while traveling and thought I don't normally give out five star reviews - I do give them out and do so when everything I care about is top-notch - and this place walked away with my five star review. If you want a good meal, great pricing and portions and served by friendly staff - I'd certainly stop and to this place. The atmosphere is lovely! However, the food and service was terrible. All of the food was brought out cold when it should have been hot. Two people ordered shrimp and it was rubber- completely overcooked. The waitress forgot an appetizer and brought a soup out with the meal when we asked it be brought out with appetizers. All of the food was clearly frozen and not fresh. The fudge cake which Buns used to be known for was the worst of all. The cake was super dry and so crummy that it fell apart in your mouth and not in a good way. The service was very very slow and the waitress did not clear plates until we directly handed them to her. It hit me when I walked in!!! In the display case was chocolate layer cake! Kaleigh our server was a joy - quick, helpful, and anticipating our tables needs. Our meal included their famous chicken salad sandwich, a plate of chicken Parmesan, a Bun burger, and a plate of chicken stir fry. we also had their bread plate which was amazing! Baileys and coffee warmed me up from the 28 degrees outside. We sat in the large room that had a bar and lots of roll up garage doors - great atmosphere and temperature.
