Buns has been so amazing recently. I love the food and the service is great! It's really improved since the last time I visited, which was two years ago. Everyone should check out the new Buns!

    Ham Loaf and Mashed potatoes

"Come for the ham loaf, stay for the banana pudding." So, my buddies and I decided to hit up Buns (yes, that's the name--already a winner in my book). We went when they opened, which meant we got prime parking in their lot just past the entrance--no meter, no ticket, no downtown-parking-induced rage. Score one for me. Inside? Clean as a whistle--seriously, you could probably perform open-heart surgery in there if the health department would sign off (they won't, but you get my point). The service? Excellent. Friendly, efficient, and nobody gave me the side-eye when I ordered ham loaf like I was in 1954. Now, let's talk food: Fish & Chips - Golden, crispy, and enough to make a Brit consider dual citizenship. Ham Loaf & Mashed Potatoes - A meatloaf, but if it put on its Sunday best and said, "Excuse me, I'm ham now." Came with honey mustard that made me feel fancy. Potatoes were a little thicker than I prefer, but hey, I still cleaned the plate. Liver & Onions - My buddy said it was great. I believed him, mostly because his eyes lit up like he'd just won the Powerball. And then came dessert. Oh boy. Blueberry Jello with pineapple and cream cheese topping: refreshing, like church potluck nostalgia, but I secretly wished it leaned harder into cheesecake territory. Banana Pudding: unanimous table favorite. Creamy, dreamy, and made me wonder why I even bother pretending I'm "cutting carbs." Peach Cobbler w/ Ice Cream: warm, sweet, melty perfection. The kind of dessert that makes you want to stand and salute. Final Verdict: Buns isn't trying to be trendy--it's just doing good food, good service, and good desserts with a touch of small-town charm. Bring your friends, skip the meters, and save room for banana pudding. You'll leave full, happy, and maybe humming "Sweet Caroline" without knowing why.

I am very sad to say that I don't think we will be making it back here. This place use to be super busy, have a big extensive menu, and be very home style. Now, they aren't too busy, the interior was remodeled to a more contemporary style, and the menu is small on a printer piece of paper. We came for the Hamloaf which we have been getting for a long time throughout the years. It came out sliced very thin, and pretty dried out. It has definitely lost its charm.

    Spicy vodka chicken penne

Had lunch here today. Beautiful old building, very clean and the staff was very professional and nice. Our waitress was great, she checked on us quite a few times and kept our drinks full. I had the spicy vodka chicken penne, it was outstanding, maybe my new favorite pasta! Perfect pasta in a spicy marinara, topped with grilled chicken breast and a piece of garlic bread. My wife had a salmon Cobb salad that she said was great. We will be going back for more!

An honest review. We were sat right away outside on the patio. My wife had the shrimp skewers and they were awesome. The mixed vegetables which she shared with me were spectacular. The Tavern chips were also very good. Cobb salad was ok, and the fish and chips were a little small. The biggest problem we had was with my chicken fried steak. It was pretty tough because I think they just cut it thick and it doesn't come out as crispy and tender as the hamburger inn which is located across the street. I also wonder if the quality of meat used as there was grizzle in mine throughout. Maybe just not well trimmed? It might've been soggy more so than usual since I had to wait about 10 minutes to eat it as I was just being polite because that's how long it took to serve everybody in our party their food. We were a party of 10 so I completely understand but I'd rather have the food under a warmer and come out at the same time. Service was friendly but there certainly were some mistakes made. I may try again but definitely won't be ordering the chicken fried steak again.

Buns was established in the mid 1800's. A large restaurant filled with booths and tables. The bar area is located in an adjacent room with out door seating. Plenty of space to have a party. I have to say, now I know why they have been around for sooo long. They know how to do food!! Definitely delicious! Worth a trip back. Do yourself a favor and stop in. The staff is top notch.

    STAY AWAY!

Having just watched a bag of ice been dropped on the dirty bar floor and then not only emptied into, but the now dirty (with debris on one side of it) bag been completely inserted into the ice bin contaminating all the ice. The bar lady did not care even after we pointed it out and continued using the "dirty" ice: this was disgusting! THIS IS A SERIOUS HEALTH VIOLATION, there is no way I would trust the food coming from their kitchen!!!

Disappointed all the way around. Will not go back. Food marginal, server could have been more attentive & helpful.

I think Gordon Ramsey desperately needs to come save this place! The food tasted frozen and the place was really drab.

My friend and I had…read morethe pleasure of dining here, and from the moment we walked in, the vibe was spot-on: super cool atmosphere, somewhere between "hip date night" and "I could happily live here." Our server, Tony, deserves his own fan club. He was the perfect combination of kind, attentive, and genuinely funny--the type of person who could probably convince you to order a shoe if it came with the chef's balsamic reduction. Speaking of which, I had the filet medallions with said reduction, and let me just say: if I could marry a sauce, this would be "the one." My friend ordered the scallops with risotto, and she ate every last grain of rice like she was guarding treasure. Special shoutout to Matt, the manager, who went above and beyond to accommodate my many food allergies without making me feel like "that" customer. Instead, he treated it like a fun culinary puzzle to solve. Food? Phenomenal! Service? Flawless! Atmosphere? Just the right mix of cool and comfortable. Regrets? Only that I didn't take a picture... but that just means I have to go back.

I enjoyed the French omelette and the dressing on the side salad was probably my favorite part! My mom loved the smash burger and the waffle fries were amazing and crunchy. My dad enjoyed the country fried steak with egg and also liked the fries. My brother ordered the best out of all of us! The shakshouka was to die for! Definitely give that a try if you have a chance. We finished up with the beignets which were okay but needed more powdered sugar. We also tried the whiskey bread pudding and it was pretty phenomenal! Overall great experience here and my family and I look forward to going back for dinner!

Backstretch is super casual (given Ohio Wesleyan is nearby - its almost a college/town bar) but great to come in a sit at the bar or one of their booths. It isnt big, maybe 15-20 bar stools and 12 booths and 1-2 tables. This time we picked a booth and a great server (Jacobi) helped us right away. Fun part of backstretch is the staff. Servers are friendly, you can watch the cooks prepare your food, and they have a full bar. Note they dont have many draft beer options, but servers tried hard to get us something we liked. Food here is fresh off the grill and tastes like home cooked food - from their Reuben(which was amazing) to Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich (has kick but so good) - you cant go wrong. This time we added Tots, Mac and Cheese, and the Deviled eggs (most sandwiches are served with a deviled egg - tasty). We also tried Jacobi recommendation of Hencock Tots - wing sauce - cheese and bacon. Should have just made that my meal. Amazing. They dont take reservations but unless there is an event in downtown, you can usually walk in for dinner. This was our third visit in 60 days! Just had dinner tonight at City Barbeque and let me tell you... I left full and happy…read more I ordered the Not So Sloppy Joe sandwich -- and this thing does not play around. It's piled high with shredded brisket and rib meat, all mixed in their BBQ sauce, then topped with housemade pickles and crispy onion straws on a soft bun. It's messy in the best possible way. Smoky, saucy, savory -- every bite delivered. I made it a combo and added fresh-cut French fries and an Arnold Palmer (half lemonade, half iced tea). The fries came out piping hot and clearly fresh from the fryer -- crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Exactly what you want. The Arnold Palmer was refreshing and balanced, not overly sweet, which paired perfectly with all that BBQ goodness. One thing I really appreciate here is the sauce bar. There's a variety of BBQ sauces available so you can customize every bite to your liking -- sweet, smoky, spicy, tangy -- whatever mood you're in. And bonus: the housemade pickles are free for the asking. If you're a pickle fan like me, that's a win. Overall, tasty sandwich, hot fresh fries, solid drink, and plenty of sauce options to make it your own. If you're craving barbecue that hits the spot without overcomplicating things, City BBQ is a dependable choice.
