Smoked brisket pie
Annabelle R.

Grabbed a couple different pies this past weekend at the Lei of Aloha Festival on Mare Island. Service was fast and more than sufficient. Got the homestyle chicken and smoked brisket. I preferred the latter, but both items were yummy! The homestyle chicken was reminiscent of a handheld chicken pot pie, but with the essence of curry. The smoked brisket had thick layers of ingredients inside, like perfectly cooked potatoes, and a generous amount of bbq sauce. Both pies came in a crispy, buttery, flaky crust. They were definitely satisfying.

I have been seeing this place online and I was finally able to stop by! Damn this place is good! I love the music playing outside when you walk up. When I walked in the woman at the front counter was super nice and welcoming. I got the smoke brisket, mince meat/cheese, and a pineapple pie. They were all delicious but the smoked brisket was my favorite. I love that they have frozen pies that you can bake at home. I will definitely be coming back!

Highly recommend. Noticed this place back in late 2023 before it went viral and was always curious to see what they served. Driving by back then, they never looked open so I thought maybe that was their commercial kitchen to prep for food/vendor events. After finally seeing them on social media, I decided to give them a try. We were headed to a family gathering and thought it would be cool to bring Bula Pies to share. I will admit I was surprised by the prices, it was more than expected. I originally planned to buy a dozen, but quickly decided on half a dozen. Hehe! Needless to say, the pies were a hit! It was fun sharing. I cut them up so everyone can sample each flavor. I recommend the smoked brisket, beef stew, and mince & cheese. There was a seasonal pie during Christmas. I can't remember the name but that one was my favorite. You can enjoy the pies as a stand-alone meal. You can even take them home and add veggies or a salad on the side. The pies are also available frozen to purchase and bake at home. This small business is worth patronizing. Definitely go and show your support!

I always drive by this place, but decided to finally give it a shot. When you park in front of this restaurant, you start hearing Polynesian reggae music. The restaurant is small inside, but they do have some tables inside and out for you to eat. They have a good selection of pies. You know it's good when you see the paper starting to have that oil seep through the paper. I also love the flakey skin on the pie. I ordered the mince and cheese. It had a good amount of meat and was very flavorful. The staff was friendly and help point me out to the post popular pies. Definitely give this place a shot. They also sell frozen pies if you want to cook some on your own time.

My friend and I stopped here on December 28th after we had seen multiple tick tock videos about this fabulous little food place.. It is located in a little strip of stores and make sure to look at the signs I almost walked into the wrong place. So the space itself is quite intimate you have some seating inside by the window and then outside as well probably a total of 12ish people in all can be in those two spaces. Our experience was really nice. The individual behind the register greeted us with a seasonal greeting and then asked us if we had any questions about the menu. My friend had already decided what he wanted based on the tick tock videos and I was all for the lamb pie that they had. He chose the beef stew and barbecue pies. We also got the banana pudding and the very swirl pudding. Overall our favorite was definitely the lamb pie it had just an amazing assortment of flavors and the lamb did not have any gaminess at all. The other two pies were also delicious and for those for me personally they were enhanced by using their chili sauce that they had in the store. I really appreciated the size of each pie definitely a meal. The pudding themselves we liked the banana pudding but the very swirl definitely had more of a bite to it when you bit into the actual berries. The tartness mixed with the sweetness really enhanced the entire thing. Definitely would like to go back and try the rest of the pies they have.

I can't say enough good things about this spot. Their workers are friendly and greeted us at the door. They have many different flavor, but my favorite is the smoked brisket. I have also tried the minced meat and cheese, and my daughter loved their beef stew pie. They were all good, and their flakey crust is the best part. I saw that they also sell frozen pies for you to make at home, so I look forward to trying those next time.

Tried the guava strawberry ripple. The essence of guava wasn't strong. I wanted more guava. We also tried the sausage rolls. They were delicious and satisfying. We also tried the mince and cheese. I loved the flakiness of the pastry. It was definitely a heavy meal but very satisfying. Definitely would come back to try the other flavors.

Bula Pies Fiji is such a hidden gem! I tried their Smoked Brisket and Beef Stew pies recently, and both were incredibly filling and packed with flavor! They were not lying when they said the pies are packed with flavor! They are hearty, rich, and perfectly seasoned. It felt like a homemade meal in a flaky pie. I also got to try their Mince and Cheese pie at a music festival, and it was just as delicious. The pies are comforting, savory, and full of that homemade goodness you cannot fake. They even have dessert pies which I'll have to try next time! Each pie has that golden, flaky crust and warm, flavorful filling that makes every bite sooooo satisfying. You can really taste the care that goes into their food. Definitely worth a visit! Parking may be tough but it's worth it, I promise it. They also offer frozen pies that are ready to bake, and an option to ship bulk to your home! I'm definitely thinking about it for the upcoming holiday season! Service: Amazing. You'll feel right at home as soon as you enter.

RUN RUN RUN straight to this restaurant!!! How amazing is this place you say, I mean amazing. This place I found on a little secret app and I won't tell you because I will be coming back every time I get it. I was greeted very nicely was so excited to meet the owner because I had so many questions. I wanted to buy the banana pudding and the strawberry dessert but he gave it to me on the house. How nice is that. Well I, was so excited to see the dessert in the spot light, and let me tell you it did not disappoint. Best banana pudding ever!! I mean so good! Like I was invited to their family reunion and everyone cooked a delicious meal! Anyways, sorry I digress, there are so many pies to choose from, some have an American twist, and some with traditional tastes. I hate pie crust on the bottom, but, best believe i ate it all. I swear the whole thing is delicious. These are also pretty heavy, so they will keep you full for a long time. I won't say this is a place to sit and enjoy your meal it's more of a grab and go. Very clean environment and had hot sauce and other items to take with your pies. There were some interesting items for sale, which you can see in my photos. Again, family owned so I appreciate it. I wish we had a place like this in Martinez so I can save a $8 bridge fee. But man, this was worth it! It closes pretty early and I think that is great. The owner can actually enjoy an evening off. I totally forgot, the frozen area is a great idea. I asked the owner and he said they last up to a year! A year! Omg pop these in and eat a delicious hearty meal. At any moment. They need to wholesale this! I have to say.... SHARK TANK. I AM NOT LYING! DELICIOUS So mad I can't add more photos...

When you have a taste for something savory wraped up in crusty ,flakly, buttery pie dont miss out onnthis place. Bula pies is putting out the best pot pies ive ever tasted. I had to try a few and i was not dissappointed. Best one I had was def the Brisket....the meat inside was so tender and juicy.Butter chicken was for sure 2nd runner up. You cant't leave without hitting up a dessert cup of banana pupping! Small eatery but big enough to grab a quick lunch in or outside and the service quick and easy. I will be picking up some more delectable bites soon.... ciao for now

Great stop in Vallejo! Ambiance - This is a pick to go place only. Limited seating, a standing bar inside and two bistro tables outside and no shade if you catch the early morning sun. Food - They have a variety of pies, including vegetarian along with sweet and savory. Pies average $10-$13 each. Service - The ladies behind the counter were efficient, friendly and answered my questions. I ordered the: chicken curry pie $10 (spicy), smoked beef brisket pie $13, banana pudding $6, kumquat limeade $3.50. I loved everything I tried. The chicken curry took me back to my Brooklyn days of a Jamaican patty. Nostalgic! The Brisket had a hint of sweet which complimented the chicken curry pie. Limeade had just the right tartness and not too sweet. Overall I give this a: 10/10 - flavor, size 9/10 - limited seating area 9/10 - service Yes! I definitely recommend to give them a try.

Found Bula Pies online and shared with a friend who visits Vallejo often. She actually beat me there! I get an unexpected FaceTime and it's my friend, standing inside of Bula asking me what I'd like to try. Say less! I ordered curry chicken, lamb, butter chicken, and smoked brisket. The crust was buttery, flaky, think of grandmas chicken pot pie on steroids..absolutely delicious! My hubby and I sampled the pies and my faces were the lamb and curry chicken. Will definitely have to visit myself and try the other flavors.

Pineapple pie

Rating is for the pies and customer service from their booth at the Aloha Festival in San Mateo. The Butter Chicken pie was the best food I had at the festival. The crispy flaky crust just went so well with the savory butter chicken. The butter chicken had a very slight spiciness to it but the slight curry flavor and the blend of spices were more noticeable. The pie is like a combination of butter chicken and samosa stuffed in a crispy pie crust. The Pineapple pie was just ok. It had a lot of pineapple but could use a bit more sugar. You can taste the pineapple but at half the intensity. Reasonably priced. Lots of filling. Nice staff at the window. Wish I had tried this before getting the other food.

They really do have amazing tres leches cake! I asked around…read morefor folks' recommendations of where to get a really good tres leches cake and this place came up several times. While they take special orders for larger servings (20+ sheet cakes, etc) they actually have a lot of different cakes that you can simply order on the spot. We ended up with a mocha tres leches (birthday) cake. It was beautifully decorated AND delicious which is the really important part. It wasn't too sweet and the frosting was that really light fluffy kind. Not the heavy overly sweet. Would go here again for special occasion cakes. They do though, also sell cake/pastel by the slice/rabana.

I've been coming to La Michoacana regularly for a long time and have always enjoyed their ice…read morecream, pan dulce, and other items. I've never had an issue until this visit, which is why I feel the need to share this experience. This was my first time purchasing a cake from here, and unfortunately it was extremely disappointing and concerning. When we cut into the cake at home, we noticed odd gray/green discoloration inside the cake, uneven texture, and areas that looked wet and broken down. It also had this awful smell and the appearance alone was enough to make us stop eating it immediately. This does not look like normal cake coloration or texture, and it raised serious food safety concerns. Cakes, especially those with moisture, fillings, or cream, should be closely monitored, and it seems like this one may have sat on display far too long. This is not just about taste or quality; someone could genuinely get sick from consuming something like this. What's disappointing is that I genuinely like this place and come here often, which makes this experience even more frustrating. I really hope management takes this seriously and re-evaluates how long cakes are kept on display before being discarded. Freshness and safety should never be compromised. I'm sharing this not to bash the business, but because I believe they can and should do better, especially since many families shop here regularly.
