    "Vegetable" Tempura

Came here in search of a decent bento box for lunch. Ordered the salmon teriyaki, which came with a $1 up charge. The piece of salmon was UNACCEPTABLY thin compared to a standard filet (see photo). I have no doubt it's the scrap meat they trim off when preparing their sashimi from the whole salmon. Also, the assorted vegetable tempura was literally just potato and squash -- no eggplant, bell pepper, mushroom, onion, broccoli, carrot, or green bean. Which is... technically acceptable? But like, where's the variety? Got the beef teriyaki as well which was just really sad. Under seasoned, overcooked, and just meh. To put the cherry on top, they charge 25¢ for EACH container they use for your take out order, which I wasn't made aware of when I scanned the menu, placed the order over the phone, nor when I went in to pay. Overall, just pretty disappointing and sad, especially considering the price, quality, and obvious penny pinching. Probably safe to say I won't be coming back again because you can definitely do better elsewhere.

I changed my mind the toro uni bowl is amazing, our server tonight was efficient and accommodating , and looks like there was a change in management! Good job :)

Had an amazing meal at Buko Restaurant today! I ordered the chirashi plate, and it was beautifully presented -- super fresh sashimi with generous cuts of tuna, salmon, yellowtail, and even octopus, topped with little touches of radish and sprouts that made it look almost too good to eat. Everything tasted good and high quality. Our waitress Saku was also great -- really friendly, attentive and welcoming , she made sure our water was always refilled. She checked in just the right amount and had a warm, genuine energy that made the experience even better. Definitely a spot I'll be coming back to. If you go, ask for Saku and try the chirashi -- you won't be disappointed.

10/10!!! Buko restaurant is currently my absolute favoriteeeee spot for comfort food. It reminds me of the "Midnight Diner" show on Netflix; hole in the wall kind of Japanese restaurant with really kind people that work there. I've ordered all sorts of items here (trying to go through the menu...!) Some of my favorites: - Their udons are so good. I've gotten a variety of them, my favorite is the Nabeyaki Udon as it comes with a variety of yummies in the soup (chicken, a piece of shrimp tempura, naruto fish cake, egg). It's a little salty but in the most perfect way and comes out piping HOT just how I love it! I've also gotten their tempura udon which comes with a generous portion of nicely fried tempura. - Sushi rolls are delicious!!! For such a small hole in the wall, you don't necessarily expect the best sushi but here it is fresh, made with love, and oh so good in rice to fish proportions. I love their dragon roll, their white dragon roll (with shiso in the roll yesss), paradise roll (with MANGO, surprisingly freaking good). - Bentos are so good for dinner. I usually get the chicken teriyaki with spicy tuna roll combo, and it comes with miso soup and salad. Chicken teriyaki sauce is perfect, chicken is moist and juicy, rice is cooked perfectly, and the dinner bento comes with ice cream at the end. Such a great deal! - House salad appetizer - I know this is an odd one to bring up, but it's SUCH a great size for the price ($8) and even includes slices of avocado. The sauce is the usual house salad Japanese sauce which I love. I can't really go through everything I've had here, but I can say for sure I haven't had a single dish I disliked. It's homey, comforting Japanese food. Thank you Buko for being such a gem!!! ** Parking is a little intense, they share a lot with some kumon / dance studios that make it jam packed.

Salmon Rice Bowl, Popcorn Lobster, Baked Scallop Roll

Buko is an unassuming local sushi joint that offers solid sushi at an excellent price. We ordered takeout on a Sunday evening, ordering six items and quoted a rapid 20-25 min wait time. We ordered a generic and safe salmon teriyaki rice bowl ($11.50) and three item dinner special - teriyaki chicken, pork gyoza, and a (very) spicy tuna roll (+soup and salad: $26). The entrees were, for our pediatric contingent, intentionally uninspired but they were each tasty and very well priced. The fried gyoza were a surprising hit, with rich pork within. Complementing every dish was a nearly packaged sauce container which paired perfectly with each. Next was the exceedingly light, crisp, and acidic white dragon roll ($14.50), and the sweet paradise roll ($14.50) which combined salmon and sweet mango. These two (and the gyoza) were the standouts of the evening. Completing our succulent Japanese meal was the rich popcorn lobster ($15), a highly fried, but succulent indulgence scant on shellfish - a surprisingly shaky showing. The baked scallop ($14.50) was heavy on the mayo and very generous with many scallops. Both it and its lobster counterpart sat upon a dozen simple sushi pieces. We got take out so I will not rate the ambiance but the interior did appear run down, perhaps expected for a strip mall location near a highway. I do not recommend dining in for this reason. The staff was friendly enough but our interaction was limited in a way that obviates a rating. A special word must be put for value. Despite fairly high quality sushi, the prices were quite modest (see above). Perhaps it is the unassuming interior, perhaps it is the location, perhaps it is a business model built on take-out, but overall the prices were excellent. We were able to feed our group of five and have leftovers to spare at just over $100. In sum, Buko is perfect for the budget-conscious Glendale or Eagle Rock resident looking for speedy, solid sushi take out at an excellent price. Food: 4.5/5 Value: 4.5/5

Combo Chix Teriyaki and Pork Katsu

Buko is a Glendale institution that serves consistently good Japanese food, large combination dinner portions, and reasonably priced compared to other Japanese restaurants. The place is small and parking can be frustratingly difficult due to so many businesses in this tiny mixed bag corner mall (tae kwon do, cake studio, market, hair salon, banquet room, etc) ... But if you persist and snag a parking spot, then you'll be rewarded with a great dinner (or lunch). New ownership as of late 2025 but an expanded menu and the new owners kept our favorite dinner combination plates. This is our go to Japanese restaurant

I love coming to this place so happy it is walking distance from home . This place is always busy. Free parking, great service

Well, I want to change my negative review and apologize. We gave the new Buko a 2nd try and the place is beautiful, service was awesome and the food was as usual (yummy). I love how the menu has lots more options with fun names and the decor is really cute. The music choices are cute too and very Kawaii. Certainly will be coming back and recommending. I love Buko OG and the new Buko!

While visiting our daughters in Glendale, we always go to Buko for very good Japanese food! It's a nice quaint restaurant that is good for families! They have an extensive menu for Lunch and Dinner Specials! Also, they offer all types of Sushi, noodles, rice bowls, tempura and sashimi! We had a party of 8 and our server was excellent in getting everyone's order correctly! Please check out my pictures showing the menu and what everyone had! I ordered the 2 item Dinner Special that comes with a nice large salad with thousand island dressing, hot miso soup with small cubes of tofu, entree and vanilla ice cream! Where can you get a complete meal like that with soup, salad, entree and dessert?! What a deal!! I chose the Tempura and Sashimi. The tempura portion was huge: 3 shrimp, potato, carrot and broccoli lightly battered and crispy! The Sashimi was fresh tuna, white fish and salmon! Please check this place out for good authentic Japanese food at a reasonable price!

First time here. Posting the new menu photos. It looks lowkey from the outside but the ambience is warm and welcoming inside. Quality of the fish looks great! I ordered the waba toro roll and the spicy yellowtail roll.

Susuru Ramen Bar is a real neighborhood spot for ramen, and worth the walk and the drive! The Chicken Karaage is the perfect blend of moist and crispiness, and didn't feel heavy or oily. Some places serve chicken karaage over-breaded or drenched in oil, but not Susuru! The Mayu Ramen is really where it's at though. This pork-broth base ramen with black garlic oil surprisingly uses egg noodles, so it's a richer, different taste that certainly stands out. This is one ramen bowl that is literally good to the last drop!

Saw the high reviews so had to check it out. Susuru Ramen Bar is located on the corner of Hollywood Blvd and N Kingsley Dr. The lot is small sharing spaces with other restaurants so your best bet is street parking, which can also be tricky especially later in the day. The restaurant is small, with the register counter as the first thing you see walking through the door. There's bar seating against the wall, and 2-3 tables for groups of maybe 4-6 people. The lady manning the front counter as well as taking orders and serving was fantastic. Very friendly and checked up on all tables through out the night. For ramen, my bf got the Tonkotsu ($1 extra for spicy), and I got the Mayu. I see why it has such high reviews, both were delicious. The roasted garlic oil was amazing and complimented the pork broth. The seasoned soft-boiled egg was our favorite part, not just lightly seasons either. It was sweet and savory with each bite, and the creaminess from the jammy yolk was fantastic. The charred cha siu slices had a slight sweetness too, and the fat through the slices gave it this wonderful melt in your mouth, mouth feel. The tonkostu spicy used the same broth just added the chili oil to it and gave it a good bite. The noodles had a nice chew to it. It was just the perfect bowl on a chilly May evening. Definitely worth checking out for a great bowl of ramen.

If I'm extra hungry I will add extra noodles but their other appetizers such as their fried rice have never really wowed me, but hey, not for me. One thing that I do not get even though I am rating five stars is why they serve extra noodles immediately with your bowl of ramen. By the time you're done with your first portion of noodles, the second portion is a noodle brick that you have to pry apart in your bowl with your chopsticks. Ramen Tatsunoya handles "kaedama" wayyyyy better in the respect that it's to order and they bring it out almost instantly after you order it with extra green onions, wood ear mushrooms, etc. Tatsu definitely has the ability to pump out a bowl of ramen fast - so I know they could do this too with just a little extra care between front of house and back of house staff. Please consider it. Your customers ordering extra noodles will immediately notice a quality difference getting to eat fresh noodles!
