Somehow, this roll captured all the flavors - savory, sour, crispy, and sweetness all in one go. Unique and exceptional. The rest of my family got the Tonkotsu Ramen, Salmon Bento Box, and Alaskan rolls, all which were excellent. A special word must be made for the staff. We were seated promptly, our kids' orders taken first so they could start eating earlier, we were promptly offered a free switch to a different bowl of Ramen when, on delivery, we were informed it may be somewhat spicy (which we didn't employ - it was perfect!), and all food came out within 10-15 minutes. The inside is unassuming and spartan, as is common for sushi joints, and prices are quite reasonable. We both loved to support local businesses in our old neighborhood, so we were excited to see what the new restaurant did to the place. Was it a blissful evening filled with sake, sushi, and stories, or was this place a bit far off from what we happily remembered it to be!? PURCHASE(S) Sapporo Breweries Sapporo Premium Beer 4.9% ABV 22floz Bottle ($9.00 x2): Rich amber color, malty sweet aroma, low body, light malty sweet flavor, clean smooth finish, and light malty sweet aftertaste. Always a favor with sushi! Deep Fried Shishito Peppers ($9.50): Butter sautéed shishito peppers with ponzu sauce, these slightly spicy tasty treats were fun to nibble on between sushi rolls! When the food server brought out the plate, there were 4 pieces of salmon, 4 pieces of o-toro and 2 pieces of chu-toro. I immediately took a pause bc I swore I only ordered 2 pieces of o-toro. Before I could even bring it up, the same server came back and asked if we order 1 or 2 orders of o-toro. I said we ordered only 1 order. After about fifteen minutes, the two waitresses seated us indoors and grabbed our waters and menus. The restaurant itself was on the smaller side but had counter seating, five tables, and outdoor seating. We think Carlos was actually working diligently behind the counter. I couldn't take my eyes off the Carlos jewel box, tempura scallop, shrimp, and squid served with fresh ahi, salmon, and yellowtail over a bed of rice. I ultimately ordered the Carlos jewel box AND the premium tendon bowl (eel, shrimp, and mixed seafood tempura). My wife opted for the tuna bowl with cold soba and mooched off the kid's shrimp tempura. Now, we have been to Japan before and indulged in fresh sashimi and fried tempura. One bite of Tendon Tempura's food transported me back to a small mom-and-pop shop in Japan.
