John's expertise in his job and past experience in building many homes makes him the perfect person to trust in your investment! We felt comfortable and confident in working with John within minutes of meeting with him. It was very evident that he has the best interest of his clients in mind, performing the inspection with great care and in detail. He went far beyond any expectations we might have had. John offered several useful tips, opinions based on past experience and detailed explanations that really made us feel that he was genuinely concerned with our knowledge and awareness of the house that we were considering investing in. We felt that John not only went through the house with an objective eye, but he also invested great thought into what would be a good alternative for rectifying any situation, when/if one was found. John answered any questions we had promptly and with professionalism! This is so important because time is of the essence when you're under contract and trying to meet tight deadlines, etc. As first-time homebuyer's we really didn't know what to expect, but know now how lucky we were to have John as our Inspector and can't thank John enough for going above and beyond for us!! He even agreed to meet with the seller's to better try to understand one issue and was able to resolve the issue with the seller providing proof and documentation allowing us to have comfort in knowing that the home was a safe investment for our future. There should be more people like John Mulhern who really enjoy what they do and care about their clients read more

John was highly recommended by a trusted friend who works in real estate to do an inspection prior to buying a home. He was extremely thorough and took time throughout the inspection to explain what he was finding and how to correct issues. I was blown away by how knowledgeable he was about HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and so many other specified areas. John provided a very detailed inspection report with photos and highlighted concerns the next day (after doing the inspection on a weekend, which I very much appreciated). He also sent a potential recall notice for the furnace, which I personally would've never thought to check. I had questions about some of the things he noted (because of my own lack of knowledge and experience) and emailed John to clarify and ask for advice. He immediately called me and took time to speak with me to explain everything I asked about and offered continued support. I feel that I can absolutely trust his expertise and feel much more confident moving into my first home knowing it was so carefully inspected and that all of the current and many potential future issues have been identified and can be addressed. Considering the amazing quality of services, the inspection was very affordable and absolutely worth the peace of mind that it brought. I highly recommend Builders Home Inspections and intend to use them for any future needs. read more

We used Builders Home Inspections for our inspection of a new home being purchased. This is our 3rd time using John, and each time he has been PHENOMENAL...!! John is easy to work with, very knowledgeable and communicates well while performing the inspection. We have made numerous home purchases in various states and John is by far head and shoulders about others we have used. In fact, once we decided to move back to the area and purchase a home, the first words out of my wife's mouth was, "we are using John for the inspection right...". and of course, he is still as great as he was the very first time we used him. If you want to ensure that your future home is thoroughly inspected, I recommend going with John at Builders. read more

I have used John from Builders Home Inspections 5 times within a few months. I have been able to count on him for fair and accurate assessments. He really understands the distinct features of architecture and construction in the area where I live. Builders Home Inspections is a stand-out because of John's direct experience in construction and inspection in the west suburbs. He knows how and what to look for, and not just simply going through the checklist. I'm sure he delivered an accurate assessment that was detailed, fair, and helped me understand the condition of my home. John is professional and so easy to work with. I totally trust that he is committed to helping me with the selling and buying of my homes. read more

My husband and I were very pleased working with John during our home inspection. He was very thorough. He pointed out things that wouldn't have been visible to an untrained eye. Initially, we were interested in purchasing another home prior to the one we decided on. Thanks to John's inspection, the first home proved to be a lemon and after much consideration we decided to continue our search. We were so happy with our first experience with John that we brought him in to inspect our second choice. This time the home was in good shape and was worth buying. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking to hire a home inspector. He is very personable, honest and good at what he does. read more

John was amazing start to finish! As first time homebuyers for a 100 year old home, we did our research and made sure to pick a thorough inspector with experience with older homes. From the first phone call we knew John was our guy! His inspection was extremely thorough, and he is very friendly and patient. We were able to schedule the inspection just 3 days after our offer and He and his son Joe came out and did an incredible job. We received a 95-page report on every little inch of the home and John even took the time out to schedule a conference call with us to talk through the results. We feel so much more comfortable with our home purchase after having John inspect every corner. read more

John was extremely thorough. He arrived before the time we were supposed to meet, and was already inspecting the outside and setting up shop. His report was very professionally done, and he answered all of my questions and concerns along the way. Because of his findings we were able to have a lot of work done on the house before we moved in, by the sellers. Even after the inspection date he has been extremely helpful and responsive, as we had a few extra questions arise from the insurance company. I would recommend John for anyone looking for a home inspection. In fact, he did an inspection for my future in-laws as well. read more

John Mulhern was referred to me by my realtor. I knew from the inspection process on the sale of my house what to expect....John exceeded those expectations! Cost effective, timely and thorough. He was very knowledgeable and took extra time to walk thru special areas of concern on the aging property I was purchasing. He was resourceful, not only documenting and clearly communicating his findings, but also offering proposed creative solutions and alternatives. He followed up after the receipt of the report to ask if there were further questions or clarifications. Five star, super impressed with John's services! read more

I normally am not the type of person to leave reviews, but in this case my experience with John and Builders Home Inspections was so great that I think it required it. John was incredibly professional, thorough and even showed up early to the house to get started photographing the roof and exterior issues. We had such a bad experience with our first home purchase because of a lousy inspector that I went in a little cynical, but you can tell immediately that John takes his job seriously and wants to make sure you and your family are protected and informed. I could not recommend this company enough! read more

John was great. He went through everything with great detail and patience. John arrived earlier than expected and gave me his honest feedback. John provided a father figure type approach which made me feel even more comfortable. John saved me from buying a home that was beat but came with electrical issues along with much more. I will definitely continue to work with John and recommend him to ANYONE who states they need an inspector don't hesitate if your thinking of calling him TRUST ME he's definitely worth having on your team. read more

I can't say enough great things about John!! He did a pre-closing inspection for us on our first home and saved us a fortune!! He was very thorough, checking every single thing in the house from top to bottom. He was very knowledgeable and informative. He let us know what he was finding wrong and how much it would cost to fix those things along the way. We will be using him again in the near future and recommending him to all our friends and family who are buying or selling! Book your inspection with John, you won't be sorry! read more

John did an excellent job completing an inspection for our home! We were very pleased as he explained all the things that he was inspecting and answered all the questions we had throughout the afternoon. He was very thorough and he was able to find the important things to be fixed prior to our move. His report was very detailed and included pictures which was helpful. It was clear that he is very knowledgeable in his field, espicially given his work history as a builder/contractor. We would highly recommend using John! read more

John did the inspection on a foreclosed property for us, with quite a bit of damage. He spent many hours thoroughly going through the property to capture any issues. He was willing to crawl into attic space to ensure proper insulation and check roof issues from inside the house. His very detailed report is a great starting point for starting construction on our new home. John is very easy to talk to and made us comfortable with our purchase. His background in home building definitely is a bonus! Highly recommend! read more

We were referred to John from a very close friend and he did an amazing and thorough job with our home inspection. He was able to explain all of the issues very clearly and was very fair with his pricing. Buying a new house can be very stressful and having him on our side gave us peace of mind and left little to doubt about the home's condition. I would certainly recommend him to anyone who needs a high quality home inspector and will be using him in the future with any other purchases. Thanks John! read more

John is the man! My fiance and I needed an inspection done as soon as possible. John was able to come out and check everything we needed 2 days after scheduling the initial appointment. He was very thorough with the inspection. Walked my family and I through every step and gave recommendations on what we needed updated before moving in. Charges a very reasonable price for an A+ job well done. Would recommend John to anyone looking for a home inspection. read more

Had the pleasure of working with John recently. Great guy, very courteous and on time to the appointment. He explained everything very thoroughly- how to maintain appliances, approximations on each item would last(roofing, appliances, etc.). John took a couple hours and covered pretty much about everything, and super impressed with John and the company. He was very detail orientated and cannot say enough good things about John. read more

John Mulhern did a very thorough inspection of a condo we were purchasing. In an otherwise nearly-perfect condo, John found a potentially dangerous gas leak at the hot water heater. The owner has the gas company out while we were still there and had the problem fixed. Further repairs were done afterward. I would highly recommend John Mulhern to anyone looking for a thorough and professional home inspection. read more

John was a thorough inspector, and along with performing the inspection, he taught me much about homes, how they work, and what to pay attention to for the years to come in my home specifically (as a first-time homebuyer, this was incredible value). I would recommend John to anyone in need of an inspection. His fantastic attitude made the inspection process fun and enjoyable as well. read more

John was amazingly thorough. I've done a lot of renovations and updates, but would have never found the things he did. Don't think you can pass on a home inspector and don't pass on John. I will not use any other inspector. He takes the time to explain all the findings with you. I highly recommend the radon test, mine came back at an actionable level, and I almost opted out of it. read more
