    Halloween is near

THIS is specifically why I brought my grand-niece to National Harbor. It was so quiet in the store; we had it all to ourselves. What's the hardest thing about bringing a 16-month old to build a bear? ...getting them to focus! There are so many options. You can pick your bear, give them a heart, give them a voice, dress them, and buy them furniture. Soooo much to consider! My niece finally honed in on the purple kitty (I can't remember her name there were so many). It was a Halloween kitty that we could dress in a Halloween get-up with a witch hat and broom. So cute. The store employee filled it with stuffing and asked if we wanted more. The baby chose the heart and handed it over to be placed inside. The outfit came separate. Once purchased the store employee asked if we wanted him to dress the cat. Lol.... Too cute. They were very helpful. You could easily spend hundreds of dollars in here if you purchase more than one outfit, furniture, voice options, etc. But it's a key memory for the baby and she loved that cat.

9/26/20 This Build A Bear Shop has more to offer than the other shop we visited today. However, the music I heard was atrocious. I can't remember who was playing, but this is a good thing. We were the only ones to stop by at the time so the employee who greeted us was dancing to the music playing. Still she had a sense of humor, but I think she would have rather been by herself. We didn't buy anything even though this store had Baltimore Ravens Merchandise for your stuffed animal. Maybe next time.

    She was so happy!

We went to take my daughter to make a bear for her new baby brother. It was completly empty, every single staff member was super sweet! There was even something wrong with the price, and they caught it before i even noticed!

I…read morevisited Pippin Toys today with my six-year-old niece and her parents, excited to buy her some toys from this shop. She and her parents are visiting the D.C. area from out of state, and visiting a toy store was at the top of her list. (We made plans yesterday to spend the afternoon in Old Town partially so we could take her to this toy store.) We weren't greeted when we entered the store, and one of the two employees made no effort to conceal the fact that she was following us around while we browsed various sections of the store, rummaging around pointlessly with items in the exact places where we were looking, but never asking if we needed help at any point during this charade. When I finally couldn't help but ask the employee what was going on, and why she had followed us around so closely but hadn't taken the the trouble to ask if we needed any assistance, the store's owner (or perhaps manager), who might have instructed the employee to closely follow customers she believed might be planning to shoplift, simply frowned at us from behind the counter, and made no effort to apologize. (My brother, I, and my niece were dressed in outfits that I thought looked absolutely perfect for a day shopping in Old Town [I've lived in Alexandria for the past fifteen years], but maybe I was wrong.) There's a toy store and children's clothing boutique approximately one and a half blocks east of Pippin Toys called the Pink & Brown Boutique, where we made several purchases, stopping on the way from Misha's Coffee to our destination of Pippin Toys and being pleasantly surprised by its existence. Both the toy and clothing selections at the Pink & Brown Boutique are impeccably curated, and the store's owner is incredibly friendly and doesn't treat her customers (which every small store needs these days, I'd imagine) like potential shoplifters. She'll continue to receive my family's business in the future, and I won't be visiting Pippin Toys again.

I was told by the manager that teachers receive a 10% discount, but when I asked to apply it, she insisted I present a physical teacher ID. I explained multiple times that I didn't have a physical ID on me, but that I am the owner of a preschool. I offered to show my professional email and even attempted to log into my school's website to verify my identity. Unfortunately, the reception inside the store is very poor my phone calls dropped as soon as I walked in making it difficult to pull anything up online. I asked if she could simply look up my school on the computer behind the counter, and she refused. For a toy and bookstore that promotes educational materials and community engagement, I expected more effort and support toward educators and school owners especially those who have direct access to hundreds of families and students. Instead, I was met with rigid policy enforcement and no willingness to problem-solve. It's disappointing to see a business that markets itself around education and community be so unwilling to work collaboratively with local educators over a modest 10% discount. Customer service should feel supportive, not transactional and dismissive. I think I should take a peek at when their contract is over.

I have never pushed a stroller before 2. The price of a stroller range from a minor purchase to exceeding one thousand of dollars... what do you get for your money?? You'll never figure this out by looking at them online or reading. You have to push it around a bit. ChatGPT will tell me? Nope. You have to try it out. 3. How do you collapse these things? Or extract out the detachable bassinet? Or put the second bassinet in there? They do not let you do this at Target or any other store we've been to. There was staff giving impromptu lectures on how they work, can they be carried onto a plane, do you have to gate check them, anything you'd want to know. Frankly, I have no idea how you'd make this purchase otherwise. Sure, maybe you're a baby-strolling veteran, and know all the latest, but I didn't. Same thing with car seats. Some swivel out and make it easy to extract your child. Others let you pop the bassinet out of the car seat and put it right on the stroller... but not all of them... and not all brands mix and match. I'm telling you... as a soon-to-be first-time dad, I left there so much more knowledgeable about how to approach this problem. I learned pitfalls, preferences, and, most importantly, what it feels like behind the wheel of a baby-moving contraption that seems on par with the Mars rover.
