What an incredible find. We came here recently for their puzzle swap, where you can bring your old puzzles and swap it out for another person's donated puzzle. During COVID, my partner and I did about a puzzle every week. We now have cases of puzzles that we did one time, then packed away! I brought a few, so we could swap them out for a few "easier" puzzles that my kids could do. It's such a cool idea and love it and came back with 3 kiddo options. The store is so wonderful, located right across the way from Eastern Market on Capitol Hill. All of the staff is not just incredibly friendly, but quick to offer advice on games and puzzles to take home. There is a room where you can attempt puzzles and games. We spent several hours here just enjoying all of the entertainment. It's a great rainy or snowy day activity. The bookstore just next door is a perfect pairing. read more

I have been intentionally moving away from shopping at Amazon and to support our local businesses. My friend introduced us to Rummikub over the summer and I searched for stores around the DMV that have a wide selection of games and would deliver promptly. We stumbled upon this spot after searching for board game cafes in DC. I was originally bummed that it seemed like there were none to be found, however, this spot is like an unofficial free board game cafe! If they don't have any other event going on, you're able to play any of their demo board games for free. They have a lot of seating and tables in the back. My fiancé and I loved this board game store. They had a great selection of board games as well as a section for kids and puzzles. It was huge. There were plenty of people there able to answer any questions you may have about games. We got off at the Eastern Market metro. It was a quick walk from there. We had an incredible Sunday at this spot. They have a gender neutral single bathroom here. Games are reasonably priced. We played Carcassonne, a game we've been trying to play for year. First time visitor. Online shows product and available. After entering the store the "Pokemon" showcase was empty. After asking if they had anymore available I was treated with unnecessary sarcasm. Being out of stock is fine especially considering how popular Pokemon is right now. I've been to Labyrinth before, since I come to Eastern Market a lot. However, I recently got really into board games, so the last time I visited, I knew I had to buy a game that I really liked (King of Tokyo). The employees are very friendly and willing to help you pick out a game, and they have an excellent selection of games, including traditional games, modern games, and kids games. They also have a seating area in the back where they host various game events. When I last visited, they were hosting a kids event for Pokemon cards, which seemed pretty cool. The games are admittedly pricier than they are at a place like Amazon (the game I bought was over 20% pricier), but I personally don't mind since I'm supporting a cool local shop, and I knew for sure that I really loved the game that I bought. . I definitely plan on coming back here and buying many more games. read more

I am not surprised that this place has full 5 stars. The store is very impressive. It is tight and not a whole lot of space but they maximize every inch of it well. We came here looking for Pokémon card singles. It's not that common for stores to sell them and we weren't surprised to find out that they did NOT carry Pokémon singles. They do have some packs but no single cards to be bought. They do have single Magic cards if you are interested in that. They have a lot of different color card protecting sleeves to choose from and also a multitude of different types of dice. They had so many different board games to choose from...probably more than I had never even heard of that I have. A board game lovers heaven for sure! This would be a great place to come if you're looking for that different and unique birthday gift for someone. They had lots of different unique card games, children's games and educational games as well. They sold quite a few Lego sets as well. read more

Hubby and I are hardcore gamers, as in we got rid of over 100 games before we moved to MD and it barely made a dent in our collection. So we've been to lots of game stores and IMNSO we're a pretty good judge. Labyrinth isn't the largest store we've been to, by far, but for a mid-sized store, it is one of the best I've seen, and here's why... They have games of just about every genre and experience level, categorized by the type of game and complexity. For example, they have "Social Deduction" and "Cooperative" clearly marked (which is great, because I can skip right over them as I can't stand either! But also great because that's what most casual gamers actually want.) They have a whole section with collectible card game stuff that we didn't actually even go see, because that's not our thing, but again, it's the "thing" for a lot of people. They have a large puzzle section with great variety (which I will visit when it's time to buy my husband his yearly present.. I am such a non-imaginative gift giver, but he loves puzzles, so...) and a kids game section with cute little play tables (again, not my thing, but I can appreciate that it's easy to find or skip). So now that I've pointed out all the stuff they have that is not interesting to me, I'll talk about what is. They have a pretty decent selection of complex strategy games of a variety of types; euro, wargame, train game etc. with a lot of the "new hotness" as well as "classics" represented. They don't necessarily have EVERYTHING you might want if you've been collecting games for years, but they had a bunch of stuff we don't yet have that is on our list, and sometime when it's the LAST stop of the day for us and not the FIRST we'll stock up. (I didn't want to carry a bunch of board games around all day for obvious reasons). Here though is the piece de resistance: they have an open copy of almost every game they are selling in their library, and over a half dozen tables where you can try them out. They actually want you to show proof of vax before sitting down to play the library games, which I greatly appreciate even though we weren't carrying our cards yesterday so oops, now we know. There were a couple games there we were interested in that we would have actually sat down to try out if we'd been prepared. The store was very clean, and there was a very friendly and knowledgeable staffer walking around helping folks, talking to everyone (not just those who looked like they had sufficient geek cred to be worth notice *cough*games workshop*cough*). The bathroom was also very clean. They also had one room with a large table that had doors that could be closed for hosting a larger game, I'm guessing that one might be reservable? Not sure about that. Beyond all that - the shop is super close to the Eastern Market metro stop, and there are a bunch of restaurants and coffee houses nearby so you can make an outing of it and you won't have too far to carry your purchases back to the train assuming you're heading home afterwards... next time we'll plan better. I also want to make a note about the game prices being full MSRP, targeted to combat the ignorant reviewer who was encouraging everyone to go buy online for cheaper and made an even more ignorant comment about how they could "give something back" to their customers. Before you decide to shop online - consider this. Can y'all imagine how much rents are on Capital Hill right next to a metro stop? This shop is probably paying several times for their space what any online retailer pays for their warehouse. On top of that, the game library that they maintain IS a huge "give back" for the customers. You can literally try almost anything before you buy. Or you could spend several hours playing here and suddenly decide you don't want to buy anything - as far as I could tell they aren't charging for the game space (I could be wrong though as we didn't use it.) Most public game libraries, even ones that sell games, that I've been to either have a per hour charge or a food/bev minimum. I'd say they are providing quite a lot to the gaming community that more than justifies them charging retail price for the games. If you patronize the store and want a game, buy it there. Save your online purchases for games that aren't available locally. If your budget is too tight to do so (which I get, having extra money is a privilege) then don't hang out in the store taking advantage of what they provide for free. Ok, I'll get off the soapbox now. TL;DR: Great store, good selection, very well organized, great staff, great library. 5 stars. read more

Recently moved to the DC area and wanted to get involved in a local DnD campaign. The guy behind the counter acted like he didn't understand my question and told me no events like that were offered here or elsewhere. Luckily someone else in the store mentioned a Discord on the store's website where i might find locals hosting events. Imagine my surprise when right in the center of the website was an official events calendar with adult introductory DnD campaigns hosted within the next week. That really sucked. read more

Labyrinth is a true local gem. I've been in quite a few times, and it's an incredibly fun place to browse- there are Magic decks, dice, and figurines near the front and a ton of board games in the back. They have pretty much every game you can imagine and a bunch that you may have never heard of. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and makes great recommendations if you tell them what you're in the mood for. Labyrinth has also been great in the past for pre-ordering games- for example, they were able to pre-order the Game of Thrones edition of Settlers of Catan for me before it released, which later became a lot harder to find. Really glad that we have a place like this in DC. It's definitely worth stopping by to find a new favorite! read more

The clean, well lit, bright and welcoming place, the friendly staff, and the unwillingness to spike prices even when they could. They all spoil us as players, and it's occasionally easy to forget. I often give five stars to many local stores, some more deserving than others. Labyrinth is def a solid five stars! They have sooo many options for games and puzzles, learning toys and all. One can spend hours here easily. My kids and husband had lots of fun just playing with the marble run along the wall by one of the entrance/exits. I had fun walking around looking at all the different options to buy (though I had to quickly because we were in a hurry). Then there's also the game room where you can try all sorts of opened board games and puzzles etc. We'll definitely be coming back! read more

My favorite board game store in the DMV area! The staff are incredibly helpful, friendly and knowledgeable about the games. There are many tables for people to trial and play demo games in the back of the store. The staff who was helping us out explained the game to us and was so attentive and kind! The store itself is very organized and clean. There is also a separate section for kid games which is perfect for children. Labyrinth is fun for people of all ages. We went on a Saturday afternoon and it was busy, but not too packed that it was hard to navigate around the store. We also were able to find an empty table easily. read more

A shout-out from someone in Chicago who has great game stores here; I think Labyrinth would be an excellent fit in any city, but it's then easily (EASILY) the most diverse collection of people to meet up for game nights of any shop I have been to in the US, although Toronto takes the cake in this respect elsewhere. I've been now for two game nights in Q4 and I'm very impressed by the people I have met and the staff who works at the store. Sure, prices for games are just fine (I still don't know how game stores survive on this front given the prices you see online, but that's a post for another day), but the pure selection of games here was quite strong. And the game library here features enough of the classics so that if you come in on a Thursday night, there will definitely be something for you to play. On my most recent visit, a Northstar rep was showing up Quacks of Quedlinburg and another person had Food Chain Magnate on display, which I had never seen in person before since the price for games from that producing duo are a bit steep. If you love board games of any kind, please be sure to make a visit! Also, as a person that has kids, the family games/toys section is very good here too. I was surprised how well one of the reps (maybe it was Arsenio? I might be making that up?) knew some of the games, so kudos to the staff for playing a lot of the family games too. read more

Fiancé and I were looking for a hobby shop, to get something fun that we could do indoors (because ain't no one have time for this winter weather). This place has great reviews and we can see why. Spacious, Well lit, neat but well stocked with a plethora of games for anyone of any age or degree of nerd-dom. You want to walk around and discover all the cute knick knacks in their corners. The sales people are friendly, very knowledgeable about their products and extremely enthusiastic. Their enthusiasm is infectious and we ended up wth a 1000piece puzzle and the game Odin's Ravens (sales clerk recommended this game to us based on our age and it's meant for 2 players) I also love that this place has several entrances (since finding parking around that area can be a little difficult). It's also quite spacious so they can hold events (with impressive turnouts) and still not disrupt the shopping experience for others. Finally, apparently there is a boozy board game night on the first Sunday of every month, might be something I have to check out. read more

Labyrinth Games is a great game shop in the Eastern Market area of DC. I visited on a Tuesday and was pleasantly surprised to see a bustling crowd of gamers participating in Magic: the Gathering card tournaments. The purpose of my visit was to learn more about the card game, and Alex helped me get started. He recommended some products and let me know about their sealed deck tournaments. The store also has a really impressive stock of board games, chess sets, dice and figurines, etc. I'll be back just to check out their board games in more detail. What I really enjoyed about my visit was the time the associate spent with me to help answer my questions, give me advice, and talk to me about the products I purchased. It can be intimidating to start a new hobby then you feel like you're behind everyone else. But Alex was really helpful and made For those of you already into Magic, this store supports the community through a number of different events. Local game specializing in board games, card games, and puzzles. They have an extremely large selection, including things I don't expect in an independent games store, like a wall of Legos. They also regularly host tournaments for various games (they had a Magic tournament the day we popped in). The staff are knowledgeable and helpful. They don't treat any question as beneath them, but they're also happy to get into the weeds about particular games. Many of the games they stock you can't find on Amazon (and wouldn't know to look for!). You can certainly go in and grab a classic game, but the fun part is exploring with their very experience staff at your side. read more

This may just be the most well-stocked and complete gaming store I've ever had the pleasure of walking into -- every nook and cranny is filled with games, hobby pieces, cute bits of paraphernalia, and more. They have the store split into more of a kid-friendly section and a more adult-focused gaming area, and their staff is extremely knowledgable and approachable. It's too bad my experience with this store was one of rejection. This is a great store with friendly staff and what looks like a healthy gaming community. However, I had forgotten my vaccination card and was turned away at the door, despite being fully vaccinated and presenting a picture of the document. Labyrinth is a really amazing local game and puzzle shop! I walked through Labyrinth this summer while exploring my new neighborhood and discovered their massive puzzle collection. We have a family tradition of doing puzzles when we get together, and I immediately became excited about being able to get my parents a Christmas gift here. I returned recently and picked up a great puzzle for them for Christmas (I'd tell you what it is, but my mom reads my Yelp reviews. Can't risk the secret getting out!). The store even has free gift wrapping, which made it all easier. The staff here is so nice and friendly. They seem to have done most of the puzzles and played most of the games. As someone who finds more time to puzzle than anything else, I can tell you the quality is spot on.
