I stopped by Tugooh Toys the other day, for the first time since my kid was little, and we were quickly welcomed by the woman behind the counter (who I believe is the owner). I have long thought of Tugooh as a great store when looking for high quality toys, including well made wooden toys and gift-worthy stuffed animals. They still have those items, but are keeping up with the times so we were there this weekend because my kid wanted the in squishies. We already knew they were out of Needohs. We learned they had sold the last dumpling minutes before we got to the store--but she told us when they're expecting a shipment and even what time of day is best to arrive to get one. They will also add you to a list to get texts when hot items like Needohs and Dumplings are back in stock. So this makes it a little easier to get that one hot item. read more

The store has about 20 different nee doh's and other squishies in the window yet they say they are out of stock. when I asked why they need so many in the window and why I can't just buy one of them, their response was because it looks nice. The people working were rude, unhelpful, talked back to me as a customer, and basically told me to fuck off. I will NEVER step foot in there again and I HIGHLY suggest you don't either. read more

They don't advertise the prices of the needohs because they charge double to triple MSRP. My daughter and I were in line for needohs for 2 hours and they would only let one of us purchase 2 and a dumpling. After seeing the prices we paid I'm kind of relieved they didn't allow 2 per person. We will not be back. They also advertised they had the cake and the fuzzball on tiktok and they did not. They baited us. I felt scammed. Do better!! read more

I was pleased to find that several others have reported similar issues with this store regarding their dishonest business practices. The owner of this shop is rude and I was clearly overcharged. Signed up for waitlist for pokemon cards after I had visited the shop. I asked for one of each of the bundles (which were marked up in price), but the owner claimed that to buy the bundles which were ($39 each) I had to buy 3 other random card games ($9 each) in order to get them. This is called "tied selling" which I'm pretty sure is illegal. I asked her if I could buy pokemon single packs in replacement of the random cards and she declined. I walked away. It's unfortunate, she even acknowledged I was a new customer and suggested this was a "deal". Please be aware of this place if you are looking to buy pokemon cards. read more

I visited the store today looking for a specific item. The lady working in the morning told me they had it but had to wait for someone to come unpack and stock the item. Ok, fine. I received a text telling me the item was available. I texted back inquiring about the price but did not receive an answer until I called the store back directly. I speak with the "manager" and am told a price. The price was a little marked up but said to hold one for me as I was 20 minutes away. I spend money on a uber to arrive at the store. I ask the "manager" for the item and was now informed I had to spend double the original amount and buy useless other items she picked at random. This store is very dishonest and deceptive. We visited this store a week before Christmas. There were no signs posted outside indicating the opening time but the door was open so we (my husband, young son and I) decided to have a look around. There was another mother and her child browsing the store as well. We were greeted by the shop person and told to ask if we need assistance. Then less than a minute later we were told by the same person that the store does not open until 10am (it was 9:45am) and if we weren't going to buy anything we needed to leave and come back when they were open. We love supporting independent business, even if their prices are usually a little higher. And we actually were considering buying a $130 shopping cart. But after being told to buy something or get out, whilst the other mother and her child happily browsed the store at their leisure, we won't be coming back. read more

I purchased a train set toy for my son on June 2,2022. Prior to me purchasing the train set I asked the sales rep "if there is a duplicated purchase or if the train set does not fit in my son bedroom can I return the item." The sales rep stated ," Yes, as,long as you have a receipt you may return your item with a full refund(assuming it was unopened). fast forward to June 20, 2022, there is a sales rep, (who is actually the owners son and apparently assistant manager) who initially proceeded to process my return and tried to tell me they can only provide with a gift card. I told them that was unacceptable because I never opened the toy and the gift card is only available at this ONE STORE. we do not live in Georgetown so having a gift card is also unacceptable.He proceeded to call his mom (but never identified that, the person he was calling was his mother and even attempted to read a sales manager script on how to de-escalate this situation.) After several exchanges with the young man he finally puts me on the phone with the manager(his mom). The lady asked for me to wait at the store for her to come and "investigate the situation ". 20 minutes later, the owner arrives and tells me that she will make an exception even though the return policy is after 7 days & she should only give a gift card. When I refuse to take the gift card as an exchange the son/assistant manager says "mommy I don't like the way he talked to me." The owner then asked for me to return later in the day so that she can investigate wether or not her employee told me that I could return a product with a receipts. I told her that was not possible and I just would like to return the toy that my 3 y.o. Could not use . She told me that she would not give me a refund unless I begged or was more polite to her son. It became both frustrating and embarrassing that I was pleading in front of customers in the store. It was not until I contacted my wife and other customers in the store began recording the altercation that they then provided me with a refund. While doing so, the owner said " we sell toys worth a $1000, we don't need your $200. " I felt offended, embarrassed, and unfortunately marginalized. I typically don't share negative interactions( especially in todays time when the world is upside down), however, this experience is one that no parent or customer should experience. PS. I've been looking everywhere for a really good (even just decent) toy store and it seems like I need to keep looking. We were taking a walk to run an errand and stopped in at Tugooh to see what selection they might have. It has a an ok variety of toys but a very limited supply for babies under 1. There aren't many wooden toys which we are always looking for. The place also smelled a bit like sewage, I thought maybe someone made a stinky fart but it never dissipated and then I thought maybe there was a plumbing issue? Anyway, it wasn't pleasant and I was happy to get out of there. I am still searching for a decent toy store (I hate always turning to amazon) but this isn't it. read more

Tugooh Toys is one of the few toy shops in the Georgetown area. It's a small shop off of M Street, but they make good use of the space. They sell stuffed animals of all sizes, games, costumes, etc. My toddler loved visiting because they have a kid doctor's office and a kid's grocery store set up! read more

I arrived at the store to purchase toys as gifts last week and the saleswoman was somewhat curt but I decided on a few items. When the saleswoman was ringing me up she asked me if I wanted the items in one large bag. I told her that was fine. However, she never gave me my receipt. When I asked her for the paper receipt she retrieved it from the trash bin and handed it to me. I saw that she charged me $10 for the unwrapped items that went in the 'one large bag', which was a green shopping bag!! While, I understand that there is a charge for gift wrapping, this was not wrapped. I also understand that there are fees for bags. But, she never told me that there was a $10 fee to put the gifts in a shopping bag!! How can this information be withheld??? This was not an accident or a miscommunication. Biggest mistake of my life. I went there for an interview that I had made over the phone with the manager, who failed to tell me her name. When I went to the store for my interview the next day, she told me to get out. I overheard her yelling at her employee to never tell anyone that she is the manager. To me, this is extremely sketchy. Especially because she has a sign outside telling people that she's hiring for the summer. It just seems really off. My friend also went to have an interview and he got turned away as well. He mentioned that the manager had yelled at her employee yet again. The store is definitely a front for something. If you own a business, people should know your name. So while visiting DC we found the one toy store in Georgetown and made a special visit with our daughter. fun, educational, eco-friendly. Really stylish toys for aunties and grandparents to spoil their favorite kids with. Much more than children need, but more for the indulgence of parents and relatives to spoil their children (without the children knowing it.) The toys are wooden, natural, of great design, and definitely not the kind that makes you think "Kids these days...." It's the kind of toys that make you think "I wish I had that when I was a kid!" This shop has a decent selection of toys and games for kids. I went in looking for something very specific, and while they didn't have it the nice girl working did help me find the closet thing that had to it. While well stocked, the store did feel a little shabby and dim for a toy store. Prices are fair, especially considering the location (right on the main-ish drag in Georgetown). I do wish it were a bit warmer, and that they carried JellyCat, Angel Dear and GUND items. It's definitely more of a game shop with some stuffed animals, but there seems to be a lack of shops with stuffed animals around DC so they could really fill a void! read more

It's a great store, especially if you are super picky when it comes to toys, and have to inspect each toy for hours, before you let the kids touch it!... it really felt like someone has already done that part for me when I saw their selection. They have a great selection of educational toys, you know, the ones that don't need 100 pages of fine print about hazardous small parts, etc. They are located in Georgetown, without any competition within walking/biking/driving distance, and yet, their prices are pretty reasonable. The staff is a totally different story. They all seem to be forced to be there. you have to ask each question 4 times, just to get their attention, and make them pretend they are listening to you! 've brought my daughter here twice now and she absolutely loves playing with the toys they leave out for kids to "test." A vast majority of the toys here are educational and are intended to build development skills of young toddlers whether it's motor, memory, higher order thinking, etc. Many of the toys are high quality such as Melissa and Doug. Yes, the prices are a bit higher compared to Target or Amazon, but it's a small business. There is a second floor bookstore that is still growing and developing. I bought a connect the dot type book for my daughter to enjoy while we're here on vacation. The staff we''ve encounter have been extremely courteous and helpful each time. This store does a fairly good job of making the children happy. My granddaughter found just what she wanted seconds after walking through the door: an alluring pink plastic hemi-egg purse lodged in the window. Inside there were 60 "surprises" from the L.O.L. doll company. I had never heard of these ingeniously weird pixies, but apparently they are all the rage. But they are hardly eco-friendly, though they may invite (among adults) discussion about the disposable culture our children are living in and the ingenuity of these sly doll makers. They really know how to infiltrate the minds of youngsters, and leave Piaget in the dust. "I am so excited!" my granddaughter exclaimed as we began opening our first shrink-wrapped pod, which is no easy task. Digging out the surprises took more than an hour, and when we were finished I was somewhat confused about what we were supposed to throw away and what was a keeper. We had built a large trash mound of peelings and molding littered with wigs, pencil eraser-sized shoes, baubles, a sand-packed kitty litter box, and more, including a couple big-eyed sisters and a cat. I believe the heads are interchangeable. That night, I felt foolish. My wife found the toy online at Target and Walmart for $69.99. The company lists it for $89.99. Tugooh Toys charged a cool $150.00. read more

Buyer beware: I pass by the store daily on my commute, and finally went in to purchase a birthday gift for my two-year old niece. It was a nice store -- and I found a great present. When I arrived home, however, I realized that the sales clerk overcharged me for one of my purchases. The price tag on the item said $12.50, but I was charged $19.50. No big deal: I brought the item and receipt back to the store the next day to request a price adjustment. When I got to the store, however, the sales clerk informed me (somewhat rudely) that the price was actually $19.50 -- they just tagged the item incorrectly. He went back to check the remaining items -- several of which also had the incorrect price. The implication, however, was that it was MY fault that I didn't check the price on ALL the items. I explained that I didn't want the item for $19.50, and requested a price adjustment to $12.50 (since that was the price that was actually listed on the item). He refused. The kicker: The sales clerk indicated that this happens fairly frequently. WHAT? I returned the item -- and will go back to return the other items as well. As another woman in the shop (who witnessed the exchange, and subsequently left without making her purchases) said: It seems a bit shortsighted -- if not outright dishonest. Horrible customer service. The toys are nice -- just check to make sure the price they charge matches the price on the item! read more

Yiro is full of wonderful, well-made, beautiful clothes that last way longer than a little kid will wear them, and I have two rough and tumble boys who have put them to the test. I have purchased a half-dozen or more pieces over the last 3 years, and each one was a favorite, worn almost daily, and still in great shape for a couple of hand-me downs. The lasting power of high quality organic cotton really does make the clothes worth the boutique prices. Those prices are the only reason I withhold a 5th star; while I totally appreciate fair wage, organic clothes, the price tags have been known to take my breath away. Great store! love this place, everything they have is so cool and unique. The store only sell ecofriendly , mostly wooden, creative toys. The kind of toys which promote creativity. This store has always been my go to for more meaningful and unique toys. Rather than the mainstream Disney and Nerf toys you see everywhere at department stores. They also offer free gift wrapping at this store which is also a plus especially during the holidays. BEWARE the strict return policy, which is not announced in the store. While this store has cute, albeit pricey toys, their return policy and lack of of displaying that policy makes it not at all worth shopping there. The store has a 7-day return policy, which is not advertised anywhere in the store. I bought my daughter a birthday present there and she had received a similar present so I wanted to to exchange it for something else. I went back about three weeks later and the store would not even allow me to exchange the unopened toy for something else. I would have had no problem with this policy if there had been a sign at the cash register announcing the policy, however, I did not know about it beforehand. I could not be more disappointed in the store's service and attitude. We received two wonderful toys for my toddlers as a gift from friends who came to DC on vacation. Unfortunately, one of the cars had a broken rivet on the wheel and I took it back to the store -in the orig. box and Tugooh wrapper. Our friends had just bought it the day before and I figured it would be an easy exchange - I didn't even bother parking. I left my husband and kids in the car outside waiting. My toddler - eagerly waiting for his replacement race car. After several minutes of looking for a replacement, he said he didn't have it. So, I picked a different one, expecting to pay the difference in price because it was more expensive. I was told they couldn't exchange it or do anything for me because i didn't have a receipt. I was dumbfounded - do they have no concept of "gifts?" Isn't Christmas just around the corner? What is the point of shopping in a neighborhood toy store? The car was still in its box and had the Togooh wrapper. What a terrible way to treat customers - especially a toy shop for kids. If the salesperson even bothered to check the receipts from the previous day, i'm sure he would have found the receipt. Sadly, I would WARN people away from shopping here for gifts because who cares how cool the toys are if it's broken and they won't stand behind their products. Here's the thing - I'm cool with paying too much for my kid's toys, especially when they are great quality like they've got here. What I'm not ok with, is a toy store where you get attitude for your 2 year old playing with the toys. I'm also not ok with a terrible customer service policy. My mother-in-law bought a toy for my son, to be given to him on his birthday a month or so later. The box we brought home had a shipping label on it with the name of this store. A few weeks later - just before his birthday - we decided that this was not quite the right item for him. The clerk refused to take it back without a receipt, or even exchange it for something else. Even though the toy clearly came from their store. They were totally unhelpful, snarky, and inflexible. We shopped here a couple of times a month until this incident, but we're done. Now that they have remodeled, the store is much nicer. I think that they have almost every toy imaginable and they have a lot of them out so that you can "Try before you buy." They have everything that you need for gift wrapping and birthdays. It is usually crowded and there are a lot of kids but it is worth it. I went there with grandson and his parents on 5/8/10 14 month grandson saw a toy educo workbench and started playing. He loved it and I wanted to buy. It had a 40% off sign on it. That is all it said. No brand name, no box nothing. I bought it and when we got home, parts were broken or missing. I went on line and this workbench retailed at the highest for $99. I called and told the sales manager. She said she was sorry but they had it a long time, it was a floor model and it was probably $130 a long time ago. I paid $77. She said I could bring it back, but was on the way to airport. I would avoid Tugooh Toys, not enough staff there. One sales person for 15 customers, no web site, toys without prices, boxes, etc. Manager said owner was a private owner. Just about the money. Educo and others should avoid too. read more
