Of course there is a lot of political themed books, its the area we are in. I was lucky to find Kamala Harris's book, "107 Days." Pricing was what I expected and supporting a local book store than the large box store down the street was where my heart was at. The books were well organized, and everything was nicely categorized. There was one employee working. They were not super engaging, but I chalk that up to library atmosphere. But, whenever they were asked a questions they were helpful. There is a lot of local advertising and they are supportive of the LGBTQ population.

Don't forget to take some time to observe a huge replica of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar", a well-beloved children's picture book. It makes for a fun photo op, I think. There's a nice YA section with a sizable manga inventory. My son was so taken with manga, filling sketch books with manga-inspired drawings for years. Politics, sci-fi, travel, history, sports, personal growth, romance...it's all here, and much more. There's a cornucopia of non-book gift possibilities too. An easy 5 stars.

They converted an old historical building into a large bookstore. As soon as you enter the store you feel the classic renovation and great vibes. Other Barnes and Noble have the same regular retail feel but this location has a vintage originality that you don't find anywhere else. There were three floors filled with books of varying types. It was surprisingly filled with college kids and tourists who were in the area. I was like a kid in the candy store. I went from browsing nonfiction to graphic novels to self-help books. I was able to find a seat and spend my evening going through a good classic self-help book. The only downside was that it was almost nine and the store was closing. I had to head down and make my way out. I wished I had a longer stay in DC to come back here. Most of the Barnes and Noble stores in my area were closing down so it was great to experience a classic bookstore again.

The books/textbooks are upstairs, clothing and computers are downstairs. They have numerous employees wandering the store asking if you need any help. I asked one for a medium sweatshirt size and she promptly went to the back and retrieved the right fit for me. They also have a great selection of birthday cards, snacks, baby accessories, and general school supplies. If you want to pick up some Georgetown memorabilia, or if you are a student and want to unwind after a test and get a little shopping therapy. Either way, I recommend this bookstore.

Their selection and feel was good. Though, I was specifically looking for Agatha Christie books and was kind of stunned they really did not have any. Though they did humorously have some sort of John Grisham original collection for way too much money to the point that I have no idea who would love/care about Grisham to that extent. Anyway, I enjoyed the experience there, worth checking out while being in the popular area that is Dupont Circle, and still am using my Second Story Books bookmark.

On top of that, they're a true community bookstore, giving back by providing free meals to people in need, which I find really admirable. My go-to order is usually an iced coffee (or hot, depending on the day), but I've also had their biscuit with egg, cheese, and bacon a few times. That biscuit is perfectly fluffy, the egg is creamy, and the bacon is on point--so good that I've thought about ordering a side of bacon just to have more. If you're in the area and need a cozy spot to work, this is it. I love that they have plenty of outlets (a rarity!) and even window seating. Great coffee, great food, and a mission worth supporting.
