On a side street in Georgetown, there sits a quaint little house stocked with bookshelves, which are stuffed with the shop's latest finds. Just as its name implies, this bookstore is a very bright source amongst these cobblestone streets. As you enter, you're greeted by a nice lady (or two) as you browse the very reasonably priced books they have. Once you walk upstairs, you get a more 'homey' feel. There is a chair, and a window that lets just enough light in for you to actually take a few moments from the busy day and just read. I came in with nothing in mind, but left with a couple of classics that I'd been 'waiting' to read. I wish I could spend more lovely afternoons chitchatting with the ladies and sitting with a book in my lap. The proceeds from our purchases go towards a scholarship fund for a school in PA. They have a great collection of rare books on the first floor. What's not to love?

Such a beautiful bookstore. Both ladies that are in charge are so polite. I'd visit again.

A wonderful old school used bookstore right in Georgetown. Particularly great because proceeds benefit Bryn Mawr.

Big selection, very low prices, and it's a not-for-profit that donates its proceeds to Bryn Mawr college.

We both love to read and love bookshops. I love big bookshops, little bookshops, romance bookshops... Lost City Books was a wonderful surprise and immediately became one of my favorite bookshops in DC. Why? It isn't huge, but it makes such good use of its space that I found it to be one of the best stocked independent bookstores I've visited in a long while. I always try to support local independent bookstores when I can, and some of them are tiny (if your neighborhood bookstore is one of the tiny ones, remember they'll probably place orders for you if you want/need something they don't have in stock). But - at the risk of sounding silly - we got lost in time at Lost City Books. We meant to just pop in and quickly pick something to take home. But we wandered through their fiction section and staff picks, pointing out books to each other we loved or have been meaning to read and all of a sudden a half hour had passed and we only really explored one tiny section of the shop. We walked out with four books between us, too. The customer service was friendly to boot. Just a great independent bookshop and another reason to love Adams Morgan.

Sure it's a kids book, but sometimes that's what we need - a reminder that everyone deserves love and respect. I glanced around this small shop - books are organized by topic with kids on the left and grown up options on the right. The person in the line ahead of me seemed to be dropping off some books and purchasing others. So maybe they have trade in options? When it was my turn the employee noted they had a lease for the next month or so. They're going to see if this location works out. Checking out was quick and easy. I was asked if I wanted to donate extra to the charity they fund. My kids book was $3 as it was a softcover. This seemed like a pretty good value. I plan to return.

Mckays…read morehas always had inaccurate pricing, but today they were so bad that I almost thought I was dreaming. Tell me why I saw Star Wars the Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels for $18... Currently this game goes for $3.67 on pricecharting, heck when it game out in 2008 its peak was only a measly $5. Multiple gbc/gba shovelware games all overmarket, by around 10 dollars as well. In general the amount of 3-5 dollar games that they are trying to pass off as 15 - 20 dollar games is dis gracefully disgusting. The point of traveling to these stores are to get the good deals. All of the inventory they have are traded in for or donated so it makes NO sense! It seems that the employees make guesses when it comes to prices, that or they are being told to overprice by upper management. By the gaming section there was a sign that claimed that all of the consoles and equipment is tested beforehand by "gamers with over 30 years of experience" whatever that means. I got an Xbox One Kinect from them back in December, and worked normally. A couple days later I wanted to try using its mic functionality, was not functioning. So it was never fully tested by "gamers with over 30 years of experience" lol. The worst part is that they give you a 3 day warranty... it's not like people have kids, jobs, or other commitments I guess. The media (dvds and blu rays) were also overpriced per usual. Usually only by 5-10 bucks. My main discrepancy today was that I saw multiple dvds and blu rays with dirt and filth smattered on the covers. Your telling me that they have the audacity to up charge, and still refuse to even spend 10 seconds wiping the cover with a lysol wipe? Is it that hard to do? Disgusting! I can't speak on their book pricing as I am not well versed but pretty much everything else is overpriced in this store. It really sucks because these type of stores are supposed to be for lower income families who can't buy new. And instead is being treated like a greedy gaming convention booth. I genuinely feel bad for kids nowadays who want to start growing a small gaming collection post pandemic. With greedy "thrift" stores like this, even the shovel ware games are off-limits.
