A cozy, little bookstore in the heart of Reston. They offer a wide range of books from foreign children's classics, language textbooks, adult romance, historical nonfiction, and much more. The shelves are lined up to the top and they have overstock in the back should you be looking for anything in particular not presented on the shelves. The pricing is half-off the list price for paperback and then hardcover was whatever price was written inside the cover. Overall, a fun local find, but not somewhere I'd go out of my way to check out.

Call me old fashioned but I like real books, not e-readers. I enjoy the rustle of pages and the smells of their spines. And since I also love the thrill of discovery I was in my element at Reston's Used Book Shop. RUBS has thousands of books to choose from; they're literally floor to ceiling. It's a two room shop with titles organized by their areas of interest. I saw labels for poetry, black studies, science fiction, mysteries & thrillers, humor, health, languages, religion & philosophy to name a few. A lady manning the shop left me alone to browse undisturbed. Or to be more accurate, she was curled in a chair near the front door and was so lost in her book that I assumed she was a customer. I didn't need her help to explore, so no biggie. I found an out of print New Orleans cookbook that looked new except for a few dogeared pages. Amazon had used copies from $28.19 to $56.99 and eBay for $29.99...I got a copy at RUBS for $8.80 with tax. At RUBS, paperbacks are half their original price but they won't sell any book for less than $1. None of the books are marked with stickers so you have to open them to find the price. It's written in pencil inside the front cover. Parking is free and convenient in the huge Lake Anne Village Center lot. The patio offers a charming view of the lake or, if it's raining, you can enjoy your book in the coffee shop a few doors down. Poking through Reston's Used Book Shop was a good way to spend a rainy afternoon. I'm a fan of their satisfying selection of titles at bargain prices.

Very nice lady. She worked very quickly and only took the books she was going to sell. While we waited, we walked around the store and they had books piled on bookshelves around the store. Lots of selection. Very nice feel.

HUGE used book store and well worth the drive!…read more Their trade in process was really straightforward - when you walk in there's a trade in counter where they ask you to put your books into bins. I had one large bag that I sorted between two bins, one for books and the other for single issue comics and DVDs/non-books. About 45 minutes later I got a text that my trade-in was ready. I came back to the same counter after browsing the store and they offered me in-store credit or a lower amount in cash. They also returned the items they didn't want and I had the option to take them with me or leave them as a donation. I think it was a fair deal for what I donated, and I opted for the in-store credit. The store has a great mix of used books, dvds, comics, vinyl, and more that's pretty well organized. I will say there's a fair amount of duplicates of certain titles and it was interesting that some were priced higher than others - so check all the labels! In general the prices were reasonable with a few exceptions - I saw a really worn copy of a new hardback that they were selling for the list price ($35!) even though it had been out long enough that other books sellers were discounting it already. But then I also got a box set of dvds for $10 and a bunch of kids books for $0.50-2.00. It was easy to spend that in-store credit!

I have been shopping at this store for years now, unfortunately todays trip will be my last. Mckays…read morehas always had inaccurate pricing, but today they were so bad that I almost thought I was dreaming. Tell me why I saw Star Wars the Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels for $18... Currently this game goes for $3.67 on pricecharting, heck when it game out in 2008 its peak was only a measly $5. Multiple gbc/gba shovelware games all overmarket, by around 10 dollars as well. In general the amount of 3-5 dollar games that they are trying to pass off as 15 - 20 dollar games is dis gracefully disgusting. The point of traveling to these stores are to get the good deals. All of the inventory they have are traded in for or donated so it makes NO sense! It seems that the employees make guesses when it comes to prices, that or they are being told to overprice by upper management. By the gaming section there was a sign that claimed that all of the consoles and equipment is tested beforehand by "gamers with over 30 years of experience" whatever that means. I got an Xbox One Kinect from them back in December, and worked normally. A couple days later I wanted to try using its mic functionality, was not functioning. So it was never fully tested by "gamers with over 30 years of experience" lol. The worst part is that they give you a 3 day warranty... it's not like people have kids, jobs, or other commitments I guess. The media (dvds and blu rays) were also overpriced per usual. Usually only by 5-10 bucks. My main discrepancy today was that I saw multiple dvds and blu rays with dirt and filth smattered on the covers. Your telling me that they have the audacity to up charge, and still refuse to even spend 10 seconds wiping the cover with a lysol wipe? Is it that hard to do? Disgusting! I can't speak on their book pricing as I am not well versed but pretty much everything else is overpriced in this store. It really sucks because these type of stores are supposed to be for lower income families who can't buy new. And instead is being treated like a greedy gaming convention booth. I genuinely feel bad for kids nowadays who want to start growing a small gaming collection post pandemic. With greedy "thrift" stores like this, even the shovel ware games are off-limits.

Not too crowded which I liked as it can get pretty tight since there's many books and many shelves. Service was fine although I didn't really talk to many people while there (was more preoccupied with finding the books and checking them out). I'd say this place has great value as the books i got (3) were charged a total of just under $5. I can see why the staff put up flyers stating to be mindful with how many books the customers get as they're priced pretty low, allowing you to collect a decent amount. I'll definitely be back to check this place out again :)

Want three aisles of kids books like Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys? Go here. Need every book C.S. Lewis wrote? Stop by Second Story Books. After visiting nearby ZavaZone with our seven-year-old daughter, we stopped into Second Story for a few minutes, which easily turned into an hour. Every book is 50% off. We left with 15 books for just under $21. The books are well organized and maps help navigate visitors to each section, but know that the warehouse's narrow book aisles can get cramped. It adds to the appeal! There are even harder-to-find rooms with other items like posters for sale. They also sell CDs and DVDs. Staff are helpful. I lost my wallet and within an hour a staff member messaged me on Facebook letting me know they found it and it was safe at the checkout desk. If you have used books, Second Story Books buys them from people.
