What a wonderful independent toy store! Tons of fun and educational options for kids. The store owner graciously wrapped two presents for me and they looked great. Very impressed, will come back. read more

Such a local gem! We get all of our toys and gifts for kids at this shop. They are super knowledgeable and have the best suggestions.

I've been shopping here for 30+ years and I'm just so pleased with the selection, guidance I receive and the stellar personality of the proprietor. I loved purchasing gifts for my kids (way back when), my friends' grandkids, my nieces and nephews and now their kids! read more

One of the last few remaining small-business toy stores. It's jam packed with quality items and brands. I'm lucky to have 2 young nieces to shop for, and I recently picked up a Playmobil recycling truck (among other puzzles and games), since my niece likes to wave to the garbage truck in the mornings. She absolutely LOVES it! Please support this local gem! I bet you'll even find something nostalgic for yourself. read more

I wandered in here a few weeks ago with my son and I practically had to drag him out because it was time for dinner. Looking at him, he clearly highly values food and does not miss meals so this means he LOVED the shop. The owner was so kind and played with my son and made him laugh and smile. The collection of toys is well curated. Prices seem a bit high but these are pretty high quality toys (ie: a lot of Melissa and Doug). As a single mom I don't have a lot of extra money but my son seemed to really enjoy this sensory spike ball in the store so we got it and still, weeks later, he is playing with it regularly. I love that they have a lot of old school board games and items that take me back to my childhood. I can't wait to show my son these memories of mine when he gets older! I definitely plan on supporting this local shop in the future! read more

Excellent place to shop for toys! The owner was so kind and took the time to get to know us. Thank you for excellent customer service, especially when it feels hard to come by lately. Shop small! read more

For a small store, there are lots of hand-selected high quality toys and games to pick from. Thank goodness the owner was able to help me pick two popular games for 10+ yr olds for gifts. Lots of interesting toys and games, not the wall of mostly junk you see at big chains. I'll be back! read more

I came here to pick up some toys for a baby shower gift. Charlie, the owner, was so helpful at helping me find some newborn-appropriate toys. I wasn't sure what to expect, since I haven't had reason to go into the shop before, but it was great. Charlie was able to work with my budget, give great suggestions, and the selection was incredible. Prices seemed comparable to the big box stores or online, and its great to support a neighbor and local business. The store has toys for all ages, and I can't wait to check it out as my friend's baby gets older! Tips: There's free parking in the lots (check the signs to make sure you're not in a reserved spot), and they will wrap gifts for you! read more

I walked in just before closing with my 1 year old and asked how much longer they were open, and the owner said, "As long as a child is in the store, we are open." It was a great store filled with carefully chosen toys, but it was the owner who won me over. We need to keep men and businesses like him in business. read more

I've spent a lot of time in Shirlington over the years, but never visited this shop - what a mistake. It's stuffed to the brim in the best possible way; everything is high quality and original, with lots of "blast from the past" type toys (fun for adults, too!), books, puzzles, puppets, and stuffed animals for a range of ages. I've been twice within the last 2-3 months to find birthday gifts for newly minted one year olds, and the owner was remarkably helpful on both occasions. I gave him the age and price range I hoped to stay within, and he provided several excellent suggestions. Gift wrap is complimentary, which is a god-send if you're like me and wrapping is the bane of your existence. I can't recommend this store highly enough, both for the selection of toys and the high level of personalized service. Forego Amazon and support a wonderful small business! On a related note, do NOT double park next to the fountain, even for 5 minutes - Arlington county's predatory parking enforcement practices are out in full force and will hit you with a $50 ticket swiftly and without mercy. read more

November 19, 2022 - yet another successful shopping expedition at our favorite toy store, One Two Kangaroo in Shirlington, VA. As usual we got great recommendations! Peter and Lizanne read more

We stumbled on this place while walking through Shirlington Village. Amazing little toy shop! This place is stuffed with quality toys you will not find in a big box store! The owner is amazing and KNOWS his toys! He was able to point us in the direction of some wonderful games for our young son that will be enjoyed for years to come! It was hard to not buy out the shop! The owner has an amazing collection of Green Toys, Brio construction toys, stuffed dolls, and toys for all ages! Prices are reasonable and shopping online doesn't compare with the experience of visiting a local toy store. Our little boy loved playing and interacting with toys and hanging out with the owner. There is a much higher quality selection of toys when compared to Toys R Us. We will be back! This is our new toy store! read more

I needed a cute but useful gift for an adult friend to hide a hand injury. I decided upon a hand puppet and called One Two Kangaroo Toys. They had a lot of options, including puppets to fit adult sized hands. Charlie helped me find the perfect one and then wrapped it for me in adorable paper and ribbon, free of charge. So, the store is pretty perfect, even for grown kids. (The friend loved the puppet, named it, and put it to use immediately.) Thanks Charlie! read more

This is the best toy store in the area. The selection is highly cultivated and the owner makes EXCELLENT reccomendations. My son has loved every toy from here more than I expected. Also their prices beat Amazon. If you need a gift for a child, this is the best place to find it. read more

This place is magical. I'm in love and will come here for all future birthdays. The store is filled to the brim and every corner you turn there is a new treasure. There are items that you will never find anywhere else and many brands from Europe. Places like this are a gem and hard to find. Always support local businesses if you can! read more

What a great store! We found wonderful gifts for our niece and a few fun things for ourselves. The owner was delightful to talk to and even wrapped our presents for us. If we ever visit Virginia again we'll happily go back. read more

This is the best toy store around. Because it is a small store, every Item is carefully selected. And the customer service is outstanding. Shop here to support small businesses especially this year when Amazon will over promise and gifts won't arrive in time for Christmas! read more

Great selection of toys. Super friendly staff. Right in the center of Shirlington. Highly recommend!!

I recently shopped for the first time at this store based on the reviews I read. I was delighted with the store, the selection, and staff. The owner's sister Susan was working and she helped me select multiple gifts and then kindly wrapped them. I will certainly return As this place rocks. read more

Very helpful staff They only carry the top sellers for each brand THink about Toys-R-Us.............ok... this place is not like that at all. Very attentive and in tune with customer needs. They have some original oldies in there Like THe RUBIX CUbe They have a little bit of everything in there from inexpensive to pricey stuff... The Best of all is FREE WRAPPING.......as in they neatly wrap the gifts for you! Awesome!! read more

I think this would be a place to take your kids to and tell them that they can get whatever they want. It's a small toy store with many creative toys and no video game. The way that I would describe this place is like a filtered down version of the internet where you put in parental control on what the kids can surf. The owner was very friendly too. read more

This store is a hidden gem in the Shirlington Village. 1) They gift wrap the toys. Great for busy moms and dads. 2)They make personalized gift selections for you if you give them the information about the budget, recipients, occasion, etc. Because the owners have been in the toy store business for more than 40yrs(including 32 yrs in the exact store they are in now), their advice is spot on. In other words, a high-quality consulting service comes with the price you pay for the toys. 3)The store is cozy, fun to explore and has a unique selection of toys. 4)Their price might not be competitive against Amazon, but because of those reasons listed above, it is all worth it. I hope we don't lose stores like these to Amazon. read more

We have been coming to this toy store for the last 13 years. The toy selection is amazing. The owner really knows his stuff, and can help you find a gift for a child of any age. Every time we came back he would ask how our son liked the toys, and he was always spot on in terms of matching the toy to our son's interest. We feel like he helped us raise a smart, inquisitive kid :) ... Our son is now in his last year of Middle School - and he is very interested in science and mathematics. Which is partially explained by the toys he played with : electrical circuits, science experiments, brain teaser games. We are very fortunate to have such a great store in the neighborhood . PS - you can always count on your gifts to be nicely wrapped. read more

I returned to this store after moving out of the neighborhood a few years ago. GREAT service. The owner remembered me and my kids. He knows every product in the store like the back of his hand. A great variety of educational games and toys. I teach in an AAP program (gifted) and he sells a lot of items that are used to stimulate kids who learn differently. I go there to buy gifts for kids I don't know well because he knows what is popular and cool. He also gift wraps (saving me $3-5). Can't say enough nice things. Shop local! read more

I love this store, especially in light of the demise of the only remaining chain toy store, Toys "R" Us. The customer service is amazing. The selection is thoughtful, creative, and unique. The prices are competitive. The location is incredibly convenient. Maybe I'm an old-fashioned kind of person, but I prefer touching and feeling my kids toys before buying them. Amazon just doesn't offer that tactile experience. read more

Very good toys here and a very helpful and friendly guy behind the counter every time we've gone here. We asked for toys for grown-ups (no, not 'adult toys') and he had complicated puzzles and Rubik's cube type things, so we grabbed those. Dolls and doll houses and lots of other stuff to stir the imagination. Bit of tight squeeze for a wheelchair use, though!... read more

One Two Kangaroo is one of the few real toy stores remaining. We still shop at Target and Toys 'R Us when we need to get "the latest whatever" for a birthday present or as a reward because one of our kids actually did their homework or put their dirty clothes in the laundry basket. We go to One Two Kangaroo when we want to find a good creative engaging toy. The store itself is fairly small, which is its only downside. I can just imagine the sort of stock they could keep if they had twice the space. They tend to have a good selection of Playmobil, and high quality car, heavy equipment and aircraft miniatures. And a huge selection of "creative" toys -- drawing, painting, building... It's in a nice location as well, with lots of restaurants, a coffee shop, and the public library near by, so its a nice destination (much more pleasant than the megaplex mall...) read more

Please shop here if you need toys; 12k is magical. At first visit you'll be impressed with the great selection of unique items, but it's the outstanding service that will keep you coming back. Fantastic local toy store. Owner is incredibly knowledgeable about toys for all ages and price points and is not pushy at all. So rare to have a store that is both locally owned and has great customer service. Highly recommend supporting this place instead of big box stores or Amazon! read more

An amazing toy store. This Christmas they will have been in business 30 years! The owner is incredibly helpful- he even wrapped our presents for the birthday party we're going to for us. All of the inventory looked like quality goods. A lot of wood items, quality plastic toys. There was a great variety too; a little but if something for every age. The store is very tiny and really jammed packed. If you're looking for something in particular the owner will gladly help you find what you're looking for. We will absolutely be back for to buy additional toys for next years birthdays. read more

This adorable independent toy store is filled to the brim with high-quality toys for kids of all ages, and will take you back in time. The owner is as nice as can be and helped me pick out some great toys since I have no idea what kids like these days. Yes, the prices are a couple dollars more than what you'll pay in soulless big-box store, but that's a small price to pay for the personalized service and experience of shopping in top-notch independent toy store. read more

I love this toy store. I was able to find unique gifts that weren't "Made in China" They have a great selection of toys that also double as learning tools. I will be sad when I stop buying gifts for kids, but one never truly grows up, right? read more

Love this place. Great toys, helpful but not pushy owner who gives it that personal flavor that corporate stores can't. So glad it has been able to weather all the change to the area. Forget Amazon, shop local and personal! read more

This is an excellent little toy store, particularly for simple 'old' toys (think 1950s-'70s), although there are modern things mixed in also. The things in the shop are mostly for young kids -- a few months to 8 years old or so -- and the selection is wide for such a tiny place. It's a small (have I mentioned that yet? ;-) ), comfortably cluttered place, with a great old toy store feeling. This is my regular pilgrimage spot before buying any gifts for kids or when I just feel like a hint of nostalgia. read more

Great toy boutique with reasonable prices. Owner gives you a list of options depending on age that you're buying for.

Really cute toy store. I dropped in here to buy a gift for a friend's kid and ended up buying a whole lot of gifts for my nieces. The staff is friendly. Most things are reasonably priced. They have some really old school toys and it was very nostalgic. It was nice to see a wide array of selection. Do not get fooled by the exterior. Peek in and you won't wanna get out. read more

Super cute store, I LOVE Hape toys and other genuine, legit, old-fashioned, quality toys. This is the place for that. The staff is knowledgable and friendly. It got 4 stars because of the ambiguous hours. Google says it's open at 9 am, most stores in that area open around 10-11... The girl at the restaurant next door said they open at 11:30... PLEASE POST YOUR HOURS ON YOUR STORE FRONT!
