I wrote the following note to the staff at Scramble on February 2nd. I received no reply - it apparently registered no concern with them. I am writing with some concerns about the way my family was treated by your staff on Saturday morning at the Alexandria location. First, let me share that my wife and I discovered Scramble at Christmastime, and have now been several times to both the Alexandria and Falls Church locations. I felt we had discovered a true gem - a place where we could retreat with our now two-year-old for a morning or afternoon of fun. The whole environment is designed for fun, and I appreciated how inclusive things felt, as we interacted with your staff and strangers with smiles all around. But our visit on Saturday left us feeling unwelcome, embarrassed, and like second-class citizens. We visited the Falls Church location a few weeks ago and asked about birthday options outside of hosting a party, because we envisioned a very small gathering. The staff member there explained that if you do not book the birthday package, you cannot bring in outside cake or balloons and that we would only be able to purchase food from you all. Got it - all good! We invited two friends and their little ones to gather with us on Saturday morning, we paid the entry fees for everyone who joined, and we ordered a few pizzas to enjoy while our little ones ran around. We were first approached by your staff member, Cora, shortly after receiving our food. She came to our table and told us to move the two tables that we had pulled together apart. Her approach was curt - she didn't start by explaining any rationale for what the issue was - she simply gave us the directive. I asked her if she was serious because of the tone - I was honestly surprised - and then she explained that it was a fire hazard. So we moved the tables apart and returned to our fun. About twenty minutes later, while we were all away from the tables where our belongings were sitting, Cora approached again. This time, she snatched a gift bag while my wife was nearby. She told my wife that gifts were not allowed, and proceeded to move it outside of the play area. I intervened to ask her what the issue was, and she explained that we could not have a gift without having a party. I then went to the front desk and spoke with her and the party manager for a while to ask what the issue was and to share that I felt like we were being targeted because we had two separate interactions, and none of this was explained when we checked into the venue. We are not rule-breakers. I am fastidious in honoring the rules of any space I enter. My wife jokes about me being too straight-laced. I understand that Scramble has rules, and have no desire to work around them. I believe that this interaction could have been resolved through a simple dialogue where a member of your staff could have politely shared the policy and asked us to make a shift. Instead, we felt like delinquent teenagers, and the experience was deeply embarrassing and off-putting. Our guests, visiting for the first time after our rave reviews, wondered what the issue was. After Cora removed the gift bag without approaching us to explain things, I felt unwelcome and uneasy about even staying. I felt the message she sent to us was that we were second-class citizens that day - those deserving of respect at your establishment are those who pay a premium for expanded services. And I could not help but wonder if the interactions would be different if half of us were not people of color. I am not sharing this because I seek retribution against Cora. I share this instead, hoping that your establishment can be more considerate of your guests. You say that your mission is to "provide extraordinary play for all children"; I hope you will consider that the environment you create for families has an impact on your ability to attain that mission. read more

Very disappointed with my experience at Scramble Alexandria. The manager was extremely rude and dismissive from the moment I walked in to pay and enter with my child. I've hosted my child's birthday here and attended multiple playdates, so being treated this way was upsetting. I was targeted twice and brushed off when I tried to address the issue. I feel obligated to share a deeply concerning experience at Scramble in Alexandria so other families can make informed decisions. Last October, while I was 7 months pregnant, I visited with a friend and our toddlers. We had been regular customers, but this visit turned traumatic. Several older children repeatedly harassed and frightened our kids, and when I addressed the adults supervising them, one woman physically assaulted me--striking me multiple times in the face. What was most alarming was the complete lack of response from staff. Even after I called for help and was attacked again--while holding my child--employees stood nearby and did not intervene. The situation escalated to the point where I was being choked, and it was ultimately another customer--not staff--who stepped in to stop the assault. Police were called, but the attacker fled before they arrived. Afterward, I was told that staff are instructed not to intervene in altercations, and incredibly, both the attacker and I were banned pending "review." Despite the severity of the incident, management never followed up with any apology or concern for our wellbeing. Additionally, Scramble was unable (or unwilling) to provide identifying information or footage to the police, despite requiring waivers from guests, and staff indicating this individual had been involved in a prior incident. This experience was not only physically harmful but emotionally traumatic, especially for my young child who witnessed it. While we are grateful to have since welcomed a healthy baby, the lack of accountability and basic safety measures at this establishment is deeply troubling. I came here with a group of moms so we could reconnect while letting our kids get some energy out. Moms, you can buy bottles of wine here! That's what you call a win win if you ask me! Glass of wine or mimosa for mom and the kids can run around and be free. That could really be the end of this review. They have food like pizza, quesadillas and even PBJ for those picky eaters. The food was alright, nothing to write home about. The place is clean and the equipment looks well maintained. There is maybe just enough staff oversight to ensure kids are in there age appropriate zones. But there is not someone constantly watching each zone to ensure children are playing safely. So keep that in mind depending on your comfort level and age of your child. Also, parking here can be a doozy... the lot is shared with multiple other businesses and some spots are reserved for that particular business. I've been coming to this location since my children were 2 & 3 (now 7 & 8). It's always fairly clean and well monitored in terms of oversight of the children. We haven't been as much due to the increase in price but we took advantage of their summer prices from 4-8pm on Thursdays & Fridays where the rate is $12/pk (normally $16/wk & $22/wknd) and adults are free (otherwise $3). Even with lower prices (not sure if they'll extend indefinitely) the location is across the bridge and I can't see myself taking the drive knowing the hell of traffic waiting for me after leaving. They offer lots of seating for adults (the lazy chairs are peeling unfortunately) and they offer a full menu that includes pizza and wine. Not pictured is well sized toddler area and a small book store. All in all I'll definitely be back just because it's a great space for my kids at this age and is an ideal space when not overly populated. read more

Party Package Fell Short of Expectations I booked the 2-hour Table Party Package for 10 children and added 3 more at the additional child rate of $35 each. The base package delivered on several promises: the kids enjoyed 1.5 hours of playtime, we received 3 large pizzas, a fruit bowl, 10 bottles of water, and the complimentary party favor books. The reserved table was ready, and we were able to bring our own decorations. However, the experience fell short in key areas. The package advertised a designated day-of-event coordinator, but none was provided. More concerning, the additional child rate was supposed to include fruit, chips, juice boxes, water, and party favors for each child, but we only received 1 extra pizza and 3 bottles of water. None of the other items were provided. For the price paid, I expected full delivery of what was advertised. Awesome spot to release little wiggles! Large seating area with tables to accommodate birthdays, families eating, or parents just hanging out while their kids play. They had lots of areas with appropriate play for toddlers. The large jungle gym with flag slide was fantastic, and our 2 yo could manage with an escort. I wouldn't let toddlers in there without a big kid or adult to accompany because there larger kids are running through the course pretty fast and they might trample them. The concession stand has lots of food options, both healthy and less healthy, plus some drink options for adults. This is a great option for 7yo and below parties. read more

Not very safe or clean, no one cleaning down the equipment or even around the large play area. The kids are having a blast, but saw three injuries in about 1 hour. The gym area is large enough for adults if you want to go in with them. One thing that is not fun is some of the parents, the smell of weed (which most likely is from the parents), and the fact it has 5 exits which makes it extremely difficult to watch your child. This was my first time taking my son (12 months) to Scramble and we will definitely be back! I love that there are so many play options for infants. My son was a little intimidated by the 100 or so kids and parents buzzing around him. For the first 30 minutes he just kind of sat in my lap and watched. Finally, he took off and started playing with the mirrors, climbing over blocks, and playing with the other babies. While it was definitely more crowded than I was expecting, I think that stimulation is good for his development (in healthy doses of course). Scramble has several age-appropriate play areas: the soft foam blocks and balls for babies, the neighborhood "pop-ups" for toddlers, the big activity "fun house" area for the older kids....and a big sitting area for the parents where they can eat food from the cafe or enjoy a nice 'adult beverage'. Came here with the little one so they could blow off some steam since we were stuck in the house all day. I have to start by saying I did come an hour before closing, so the customer service may get a pass from me...this time. When we arrived the receptionist was not very friendly and I had to ask her to repeat herself several times to explain the rules and even purchasing socks. The socks for purchase looked "used" and I had to get her to explain that they were new, just rolled into one another. Anyway once inside, there is a bar like area where you can purchase food and I think drinks. Further back is the inside jungle gym for the kids. My little one is a new toddler. Very curious about everything but as a parent, I probably wouldn't recommend this for kids under 5....well the larger part of the jungle gym and indoor "soccer" area. It was crowded and the kids seemed to play a little rough. I saw a lot of parents sitting on the sidelines watching their kids but I think their kids were a little older. I didn't see staff members in the jungle gym area watching the kids as one previous review stated. To be fair, I think there is an area for the younger kids, which is where we stayed primarily but to me it requires me to be very hands on - which is fine and probably to be expected. Still no staff members. I only saw staff members straighten up areas about 15 minutes prior to closing and no I didn't see anyone sanitizing. It wasn't a horrible experience, but I think I expected a little more. All in all would give it another try. My little loved the slide for the little kids and like I said, we did come an hour before closing. read more

I've never seen a business charging 5-11 month olds. They can't even sit up they mostly sit in their car seat and can't even crawl. This is shameful and not a good business practice. As a mother of two young boys with never-ending energy, I fell in love with Scramble quickly. It is one of the only places I can show up and not worry about where my kids are (in the play area that is), relax and just look at my phone, or whatever. They have Wi-Fi so I have seen parents bring laptops and try to get work done which is commendable. I frankly just like the opportunity to not have my kids hanging all over me and asking me 1 million questions. This place keeps them entertained for at least an hour and a half and they also get a ton of energy. It's not necessarily cheap, but in my view it is worth every penny. We had a great time today at scramble. It was our first time in and we felt somewhat apprehensive with COVID. The staff was welcoming and friendly with answering our questions and introducing us to the space. We had preordered online 3 days in advance and got a little discount. Our total price for one toddler and two adults was $16 for two hours which I thought was extremely fair. The space was clean and large. Which made me feel a little better. The bathrooms were tidy and they did a good job keeping sanitizers ok all tables. However, I did dock a star because I felt there were a lot of people by our leaving time. The families fill it up fast and there are kids in close quarters. The center and back stayed mostly open. Not complaining just something to keep in mind. I also noticed a few bigger boys had toy race cars in the slide area and I felt that was an accident waiting to happen. Scramble-Alexandria is our go-to spot for indoor play. Rated 4 stars because we generally have a good time every time we go. Place seems fairly clean, employees are often seen walking around and monitoring the kids, especially if/when the back door alarm goes off, they go FLYING to the back to make sure a child didn't go out the door which I really appreciate. It's not too hard to keep an eye out for your kid depending on where you sit, and adults can even join in on the fun if they choose. Food has always been good and it's a plus that they sell wine/beer! Now the downsides are that a manager (young lady with purple hair at the time) discriminated against my godson and said he couldn't bring his medical walker inside. Well once we let her know that she could not legally do that, we had no more issues from her and he was able to use his medical walker to get around as he pleased...which wasn't far because he's only two and is not able to walk far due to his condition. There is another manager (a Latina woman) who OVERLY manages the kids and complains to parents about every single minor detail...if a kid is yelling in excitement she complains. If a kid is running to their parent because they have to go potty she complains. She's a real buzzkill. Often times a lot of parents don't properly monitor their children, especially parents of children who are 7 and older which is frustrating because I've had some safety issues with my toddler a few times. Despite the negatives, my daughter enjoys going and so does my family and friends so we will continue to come to this establishment until we're given a serious reason not to! read more

Had the worst experience on 2/22/25 with the customer service. We had an African American server who was very rude and kept hollering "I'm from LA & was in the military" excuse me? Very rude! The food for our party with over 15 kids was late and came at 3:50 and they expected us to be gone by 4. We asked for the manager and she did absolutely nothing. With few indoor play areas in the city, Scramble is a great option for D.C. families. Located in an industrial part of Alexandria, you can always find parking in the lot in the front and back (a huge win!). For kids under three, it's only $8 and one adult can enter with each paying kid. Children ages three and older cost $12. The space is large with a cafe, seating, a quiet zone for parents, a younger kid area, an older kid area, and a soccer area in the back. My toddler didn't rest for three hours and had a blast. The only thing to watch out for is the cafe. There were a lot of people there and only three staff working the kitchen backlogging orders. We waited for an hour for a small pizza and had to cancel since we had to go. read more

I took my 8 month old son here on a weekday afternoon. His age group (I think under 2) is $8 and includes one adult. Additional adults are $5 each. On your first visit, you sign a waiver but the registration process only takes a few minutes. There are cubbies to leave your items but it's at your own risk. Make sure you bring socks or you have to purchase them! Other logistics: there is a cafe with simple food (salads, pizzas, sandwiches) but you can bring at least baby food if not other food. There are high chairs available. There's also free WiFi. I noticed a lot of parents with laptops and assume they were working. There is a special soft play area for tummies and crawlers. It was frequently infiltrated, however, by bigger kids who had no business being in that area because, frankly, their play was pretty rough and they almost stepped on my baby multiple times. The staff was pretty lackadaisical and didn't correct anyone and most of these kids' parents were nowhere to be found. I hope on the weekend when it is seemingly more crowded that they are more strict about age separation. My son had a great time looking in the mirrors, going down the slide, and he particularly enjoyed the lights in the tunnel underneath the slide. Since he can't crawl or walk, obviously what he could do was minimal but he was entertained for a solid two hours which is a long time for a baby of his age. The location was a bit hard to find since its industrial warehouse after warehouse and parking was a hassle- I only imagine it's so much worse on the weekend. I'd love to bring my son back when he's crawling so he can do more, but at the same time I'm hesitant to visit on the weekends because I imagine it's a zoo and hard for the younger babies to navigate. read more

This place is great! Go here! Especially if you have a toddler. REMEMBER TO BRING SOCKS! It's one of their rules. My coworker told me about this place. My youngest is a toddler now. I wish I had found this place sooner, especially with how limiting Covid World has been! It has tons of options for kiddos. You walk in and there's a crawling and climbing section. This part has padded flooring. There's also slides. Then towards the back, there's a sporty section where you can build with soft blocks and the kids can play with 4 huge soft soccer balls. For bigger kids, there's a huge maze of games to climb through and a huge slide. In this section, grown ups aren't allowed so we didn't get to walk through. But I know my bigger kid would've loved it (he's back in-person learning, thankfully!!!). I didn't partake, but there's a food bar with food, coffee, and WINE! Seriously. Too funny! read more

We hosted my son's 5 year old birthday party here. The good? The kids love it, and the birthday party planning was pretty easy. Everything from food to party favors is taken care of. They provide a bunch of photos and info ahead of time to help parents plan. Staff were very accommodating and checked in regularly to see if we needed anything. The less-good: the venue is loud and crowded. We had a Deluxe party room so parents without kids could have a quieter place to rest, but that wasn't possible if you're watching/chasing your kid. It was hard for parents of guests to talk to each other (especially if they didn't know each other first), and it was hard as hosts to find guests among the crowd. The venue must have been short-staffed the day of our party, because the wait time sometimes exceeded 10 minutes for guests (which is forever for a kid within eyeshot of a playground). Also, the kitchen sent out adult food before kid food (also a big no-no). The venue was great about letting us add siblings-of-guests last minute, but I'd recommend this venue for a smaller group (no more than 12 kids) or you'll feel even more chaos and crowd than usual at this type of venue. I'd also recommend for ages 6 and under, and tell the grown-ups-without-kids to sit this one out. read more

There are soooo many different areas and slides and climbing and just lots of fun. I truly can't say enough great things about Scramble. Previously we'd been to A different indoor play area in Falls Church and Scramble makes that look like amateur hour ha. Can't wait to go back again and also have her birthday party here. Came by yesterday with some neighbors and to say everyone had a blast would be an understatement! This is fun for grownups (who don't mind loud noise) and even better for kids! They even serve mimosas and Port City beers. The staff were friendly and we saw quite a few people wiping tables down frequently (each table also had hand sanitizer). The food options (we had the cheese pizza and nachos-nachos were much better than I expected!) were pretty vast as well. They should probably do a better job of not letting people eat inside the play structures (as we saw quite a few kids with juice boxes and food inside that made messes) but maybe they need grownup supervision too. When we got there around 1030 it was pretty packed (parking is awful!) and it looked like two or three birthday parties going on; once the parties went into the reserved area or room it really opened up. If you have smaller ones I'd suggest leaving before 1; as that's when we saw an older crowd come in and we opted to leave as some of the bigger kids were running little ones over. Overall, we'll definitely be back... we were able to snag a parking spot after only a few mins of waiting but I'm not sure what other parking options are nearby. We booked the deluxe package for our son's bd. Everything went fine and they had fun. However you must double and triple check the contract and the frequently asked questions the day before the party because they will 100% enforce it, no matter how ridiculous it seems. We were asked to pay an additional $60 for the 3 balloons that the 3-4 year old accidentally let float onto the empty ceiling. For how much this party ended up costing (the package plus the adult food that must be ordered from scramble) customer service must be better. This incident left a sour taste in our mouth and we will never book another party at scramble again. read more

This was my first visit and did not really know what to expect. A few quick Yelp searches about what to do with my toddler grandkids and came across Scramble. Came in, paid entrance, had temperature checked, removed shoes, and went to play with my grandkids. Do they like a slide? They have slides. Do they like to kick big bouncy balls? I guess I've tried a few other indoor playgrounds and find that the options here are actually limited to the soft cushion thingies plus the playground but only kids can go in the playground so it's def not toddler friendly.
