I love this place, sometimes but I cannot express to you how annoying it is when you sell stuff here. I have been here for an hour and half waiting to sell but the girl helping just keeps talking and talking which has gotten super annoying because not only is the line not moving at all but the line is getting larger. I get that the people who work here are super kind and talkative but please be considerate of the people who have been waiting for over an hour. I'd like to preface this review by saying I have been coming here for 4 years and have experienced every new team and manager this Buffalo Exchange has hired. My god - the manager and the buyer who took care of me today between 5-6:30 were awful and the store was in pure chaos. The state of the store was incredibly messy - the clothes racked were overfilled. Meaning, I couldn't even move the hangers from side to side in any part of the store. I was surprised to see how crowded the clothes racks were because this entire past year, the store has been so organized and I have even commented how great my experience was to the previous manager (the one with white eye lashes). The pricing of some of the items today were SO OFF. A 100% silk dress from Banana Republic was priced at $22 while a stained Forever 21 dress was priced at $35. This exemplifies the poor buying skills of the new staff buyers. The back of the store had clothes all over the floor and none of the girls in the back were trying to clean them up or organize. I was literally stepping on clothes and hangers. The line to purchase was wrapped around the front of the store. I have never ever seen the line that long. The manager was reprimanding one of her team members in front of me about some quarters. Incredibly unprofessional and she simply does not have the communication skills or patience to be a good leader. This particular manager didn't look ANY of the customers in the eyes - she was robotic in her sub-par customer service skills and seemed overwhelmed to be there. The girl who purchased my clothes really seemed like she either hadn't slept in days or was under the influence of something. She barely looked through my clothes and didn't strike up small talk conversation with me like literally EVERY Buffalo Exchange buyer does at every BF I have gone to from Costa Mesa to Santa Monica. I think the new manager and new staff recently hired need to be evaluated. They lack proper communication skills, customer service skills, and seem overwhelmed at the idea of keeping the store organized. read more

I came here with a bag of clothes/shoes to sell and only ended up selling one item- disappointing, but it is what it is. What was more surprising to me was that some of the items I brought in were higher end (Madewell, J. Crew), including items new with tags, but they were only interested in one pair of pants. My takeaway? If it isn't high-waisted, they don't want it. Despite my complete lack of success, I do like the feeling process here better than at Plato's Closet. Instead of just dropping off your clothes and returning (possibly hours) later to hear the verdict, they actually go through the items with you and tell you what items they'd like to sell and for how much. I've had better selling luck at PC but definitely prefer Buffalo Exchange's process. read more

Buffalo exchange is no longer a thrift store interested in "buying, selling and trading" used clothing. They did not buy one item of my gently used Madewell, Sanctuary, Tahari or Rails brand clothing. I did however observe them buy from a woman who came in with bags and bags of new clothes with tags attached and in online bag packaging. Buying from this person defeats the entire purpose of finding a new home for gently used clothes and to keeping those clothes out of landfills. Kerstin Block the gal who opened the store in 1974 was thinking about sustainability and resale of used clothing not buying new clothes and reselling them. I was very disappointed that the store no longer embraces Kerstin's mission but still advertises as a store to "buy, sell and trade used clothing." read more

Customer service is a hit or miss. Sometimes I'll easily wait 20 mins+ just to check out. Since the pandemic there is a lot less staff and shorter hours. Selling here is pretty inconsistent depending on which store associate you get. Before, you would just stay at the counter while they go through your clothes but now you have the option to stop around but not store associates tell you that for some reason. You do need to show ID and give them your phone number to sell. Your phone number is tied to your account. You can either get cash or store credit, store credit is the better deal. They don't really buy xs, so if you wear sizes other than s-xl don't bother trying to sell clothes here. Originally the associate picked out 3 xs things of mine then the manager said no to them because of the size... I use to like selling here because they offer a bit more compared to other consignment stores and they use to buy a decent amount of stuff from me but I've barely sold anything here lately. This location is pretty small so they can't accept a lot of inventory so don't expect to bring a ton of clothes and have most of them sell. And definitely don't expect to get near retail price for your items, if you do you're better off selling your stuff on your own. read more

As a buyer: Small yet organized well thrift shop. I was expecting to only find items that appeal to the younger teen/ early college students, but I'm actually found a great mixture of high end brands in the mix. Incredible Finds: -$40 free people bomber jacket, retails online for about $200 -some work tops, and casual sweaters/jackets. I found TopShop and Madewell in the mix which are really great brands. As a seller: There was no wait, which is pretty rare when I've gone into other consignment shops, but I came later in the evening about 45 min before they close (maybe that's the magic time). Tara was extremely helpful and gave me a run down of what they were looking for. I walked away with $25 store credit in exchange for some festival tops and a pair of shoes. I chose the $25 v. $15 cash because I know I will find something at a later date! Overall, cool funky shop. There are some real unique pieces here which speaks to the overall unique area and people who live here. read more

good finds if you're a shopper. The selling experience is awful. They desperately need to hire more buyers bc only two people were working it and one of them (presumably) the manager kept leaving a current buy to man the cash register. I called in advance and they stated there was no wait and by the time I showed up the line was about 3-4 people, and they rate they were going at was abysmal. A "no wait" ended up being approx 60 min to be seen. They prefer to keep a convo going during your session which is so extra. If you'd like to sell items make sure you go to the right person. I have 3 young college adult kids who went through their closet and we loaded up clothes from Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's, Victoria's Secret, Chubbies, Active - all name brands and lightly used- O'Neil, RVCA, Hurley, Lululemon, Nike, Adidas, Salty Crew, Dark Seas, and concert and sports tees and the guy just skimmed through the pile and said he'd give us $3. Literally 3 dollars. My time and gas was definitely not worth that trip. The place was loaded with eh clothing and definitely not the best customer service. I sold here before and a woman took tons and was very friendly but that certainly wasn't the case today. I personally would not recommend selling or shopping here. read more

i have had a good experience overall with Buffalo Exchange. They paid me a decent price for some vintage clothing I donated. I am noticing that a majority of the negativity I am seeing here on Yelp is because people are butthurt that they wouldn't take their clothes when trying to sell them. First of all, they have a very specific look they go for when buying and selling. The trend is 90s grunge, the 70s, and OOAK pieces. So even if you bring in something that is "brand name" they won't necessarily take it if it isn't unique enough...so don't bring in brands like Forever 21 or H&M (unless its a really cool piece )or any other mass produced brands. Bring in clothing that is really weird, unique, handmade, and fits the "hipster" look that they have. At the end of the day, they are a business and are not entitled to buy your clothes. Learn about their target market, and also keep in mind what season it is when you are selling. They aren't taking a whole lot of flannels and sweaters, but probably will come September. When you learn about their target market and can hone in on what they are looking for, you can make some extra cash. I received 45+ for selling two vintage items that I didn't have time to sell on my own Etsy shop. Most employees have been friendly towards me, but I think customer service could use a little bit more work. It doesn't hurt to smile. Come on. Being around interesting, pretty clothing should make you happy. in summary: 1) selection: hit and miss due to the donations they receive, but overall great. 2) customer service: fair. needs improvement 3) selling process: good if you know what they are looking for. read more

Upon walking in from the back entrance the first employee I encountered was a heavyset Hispanic female with a chip on her shoulder. Instead of a pleasant greeting I received "What do you want?" I should've turned and walked out knowing that it wasn't going to get much better. I told her that I wanted to sell some clothes. I was told that I should already know that I needed to go up front! How is a new customer supposed to know that when walking in from the back entrance and seeing an employee at a counter area at the back of the store. I turned and told her thanks for the info but she could keep her rudeness to herself. I then made my way to the front to sit in the selling queue area. The next employee I encountered was a heavyset white female that was dressed like a clown, including red make-up on her nose, with green hair and a sloppy outfit with a button that says "I'm a Mess", no sh¡t she was a mess... When I caught eye contact with her I smiled and instead of smiling back she stuck her tongue out and sneered at me... The third employee I encountered was the white female in charge of buying. She was just as rude as the first employee I encountered. With the exception of the rude employees, the store had some nice items, however, I wouldn't and won't spend my hard earned money at a store where I am going to be treated rudely!!! read more

We arrived at 1220 and he said hold on and left for a good 5-8 minutes and then complains that next time we have to be on time otherwise they won't buy from us. I live this store and have going for years. I do trade and rarely cash when I bring my wears. It's such a minimal amount normally it's hard to accept so little. I do however love all the variety and that they miss vintage with newer fashion. I also love the sometimes quirky things as well since I have pretty quirky taste. read more

Very disappointed of this location I've been to many locations and this by far was the worst I've ever experience. I came in to sell and was helped by "alex" which he said he was the manager and has worked at this location for 6 years. He tore through my items didn't even look at them. Totally disrespected my stuff. Went through about half of it and said he didnt see anything he wanted to buy and asked me if i wanted him to put back my stuff in my bag i said no cause of by the way he handled my items in the first place. DO NOT SELL AT THIS STORE/LOCATION The employees were really rude when I sold to them, and didn't even look at all the stuff I brought in. Also called day before I sold, and one of the employees said I was able to bring in more than 50 items and upon arriving to the store they said they weren't going to look at everything. Wasted my time for them to only look at SOME of my stuff. I recommend going to Plato's closet or uptown cheapskate. No need for appointments and you can bring as much stuff as your want. Also the price range here is very high for used clothes, and they are VERY picky with the items they buy. One little lint on the garment and they won't take it in. But looking at all the stuff in the store 80% of the stuff are in really used condition. Save yourself the time and go to another consignment store. Went to sell clothes here the other day. The workers do a terrible job of communicating what they are looking for when buying used clothes and only take a second to glance over your pieces . If it's not vintage or zoomer friendly they will NOT buy your clothes. Absolute waste of time, they'd much rather try to engage in meaningless conversation with each other or with you, but sometimes we just wanna get in and get out quickly. Sad read more

First time visiting this store to resell my clothes, and it felt like there was a lot of favoritism and "pretty privilege" in the store. As a plus size women and POC I walked in feeling judged and uncomfortable, noticing the employees chatting and giggling with other customers who seemed more in tune with the employees style/looks. Retail staff should understand customer service basics. They didn't smile or make small talk with me, and I felt out of place. When it was my turn, they barely examined my clothes, even though they were in excellent condition. All of the items were from Lucky Brand, Zara, H&M, and PacSun. I only received $20 in cash for 10 pieces of clothing. They offered $45 in store credit, but after this experience, I will NEVER return. Despite being a "thrift store," it's very expensive and survives only because of its "unique" clothing. Either the staff should be retrained for better customer service, or the store should shut down, as no customer should feel uncomfortable and judged. A couple of days ago I found a BRAND NEW Olive-colored Toms for just $20!! (and it was my size too :D) They seem to not have a bag though.. This thrift shop wouldn't know fashionable, quality clothing if it hit them in the face. This was my second time bringing clothes in to sell and they rejected everything. Much of the clothes were barely worn and the only reason I was getting rid of them was because my body shaped changed after having a baby. The staff was snobbish and everything they were wearing was severely outdated, ragged, and ill-fitting so I guess I shouldn't have been surprised when they turned away all of my clothing. Many pieces I had just bought a year prior and you can still find similar styles in stores. I get that it may be more vintage in style but everything I saw in there was not nice and was very worn or gaudy looking. Clearly this place isn't for me or people with taste so I'm going to sell everything on Poshmark instead. Thrift stores like these are just a thing of the past now. read more

First and foremost I HATE to leave bad yelp reviews but damn, BE def takes the cake for worst thrift experience ever. Literally in a line of 5 people who are selling and they have 1 girl on register who decides to make small talk and crack jokes/ have lengthy conversations with EVERYONE. The manager and several members of staff came by multiple times to look at the register, arrange those little wooden tokens they have and then proceed to walk in the back. I wanted to buy a shirt and jacket that were super dope, but ultimately ended up leaving after waiting 30 min since all the other staff "were busy". I asked several times if someone could come out and check me out since I wasn't selling but nope, the little pow wow the other 4 staff members were having in the back was more important. came in with a giant trash bag filled with clothes, unfortunately only 2-3 items were selected and i made about $9 and about $16 in store credit. ended up taking the cash because i wasnt able to find anything that i liked since everything was quite pricey for a thrift store. however, the girl helping us was super kind!!! she was really friendly and conversing the entire time, which i really appreciated!! not sure if i would drive back to sell or buy due to the pricing, but maybe if i was in the area? because of the great customer service i experienced :)) read more
