I honestly really like Buffalo exchange. I found so many fun gems here from a very unique finds to just general staples at a decent price. You have to hunt a little because some of the stuff is very random, but I found some really great deals before. I will say if you're going to plan to wait, they seem to get pretty sizable lines and I've had to wait a good amount every time I've brought stuff to sell. They're pretty upfront about how they priced things out and you can make some semi decent money, especially if you trade for store credit. read more

I love coming here a couple times a year to clean out my closet but they don't have the most diverse selection while shopping. I wish they also carried some more mature clothing as Plato's closet doesn't at all, they are better for young adults, but I still prefer Buffalo over Plato's. read more

Great selection of vintage silver jewelry. I always find a ring when I stop in. The men's section has amazing shirts. Women's clothing selection left MUCH to be desired, especially anything above a size large. The first time I went in around September of this year, I found quite a lot of cute items in the plus sizes, but by November, the selection has transformed into shapeless bag dresses and styles that were maybe popular five years ago. They had also added a bargain area, which must be new to the brand, where I found some great vintage jewelry pieces for $3 each. Their staff is super friendly and helpful which makes it worth stopping in. I really like the building it is located in, and it's also nestled right in the arts district next to lots of other great little shops. It's pretty easy to park, though it is metered. read more

I found Buffalo Exchange on Yelp during my visit to Albuquerque for the Balloon Fiesta. The store has an amazing selection of both clothing and shoes and fun Halloween costumes during the season. I would agree with other reviewers regarding their prices on clothing items...it's definitely giving "new clothing" prices, not second hand high-end. This is a used, vintage and consignment type of store. Prices are a bit on the higher end than most stores of this kind. Some styles were trendy but prices seem to be quite exaggerated for items that have been worn or used. Place is very clean and staff are friendly and welcoming since the money you walk in the doors. Parking is limited and it's on the paid meter but convenient for UNM students. read more

Really amazing & unique selection, and very friendly staff. They are a little particular on what they pick to buy if you're bringing in clothes but it is completely understandable. Like most thrifting and second hand clothing stores, what you get is kind of hit or miss. Buffalo Exchange has a wide variety of clothing for all sorts of styles, but doesn't cater to anything specific. The clothing is organized well so sifting through everything is easy enough. Plenty of changing rooms in the back and friendly staff that is willing to help. It's a bit pricy in comparison to other similar stores, but not terrible. read more

Pretty disappointed - they only accept appt's now for clothing drop off for review. Drove 30 min to the location from the west side - NO ONE was at the counter in terms of other customers and they told me they had another appt in 20 min so couldn't review my things. I mentioned I worked in healthcare and was between clients and just drove 30 min and could they squeeze me in and they refused. Just common Courtesy man! Wouldn't do it. Ick. After taking jewelry and clothing and shoes for trade over 18 years(most purchased by employees) - I was told today that expensive boots smelled like smoke and so no go. Everything I'be brought in for 18 years has smelled the same. It is the business' right to make such choices. There are always unique, vintage, quirky, classic, high fashion and interesting pieces that are well curated by the buying staff. Prices are decent as well. They also offer tokens when you buy something-you can place your " token" in your choice of charity where you'd like buffalo to send support. Overall, I really like this store and friendly and helpful staff there. No one said anything to me when I walked in which I usually don't mind I walked around looking for what I needed once I grabbed it I went to the register I was at the register for about five minutes , no one was around. I don't know based on the reviews, but I feel like I'm being generous with my 5 stars. However, I'm going based on my experiences with other Buffalo Exchanges. I'd have to say that this Abq, NM location is up to par. My boyfriend found a button shirt, which he has the hardest time finding shirts. I found a cute Express dress for $15, reg. $92, with the original tags still on it. Score for my trip to Vegas. Staff are really sweet and I find that pleasing. In the Bay Area, you won't find the kindest staff at buy, sell & trade stores. They are just too cool for school. In Berkeley, everything is picked over and looks like you could buy it at a garage sale for a quarter, but you are being charged $12 for a shirt with a hole in it. Yuck! I didn't get that vibe here in Abq. Due to the hip college students, they sell their cool clothes for me to wear. Thanks college students. :^) The only other nice Buffalo Exchange I've been to so far, is the one in Portland, OR. Check it out if you ever go there. Up the street from Powell's bookstore. read more

This place is great, a good shop for a lot of things, I've gotten a dress for 13 dollars there, as well ad a nice dress shirt and jean shorts, and all of them I wear frequently. They started requiring appointments to sell after Covid and have never gone back to allowing walk in sales despite everything else being open. Their jewelry quality has dropped to non-existent from being one of the best places in town for decades. I asked why they haven't gone back to walk in sales and they claimed it was to prioritize sellers, but who has time to make an appointment ahead of time to sell jewelry and clothes? My guess is that the real reason they haven't gone back is that they can pay less employees to be on staff and just mark up costume jewelry. Their jewelry selection used to be so unique and really reflect the awesome jewelry of the southwest's past and present. Now it's mostly plastic and appropriative knock offs of what used to be authentic vintage and local art. Please do better Buffalo Exchange. You can regain your luster. read more

In order to appreciate this place properly, you have to accept two propositions: 1) in order to find something good, you must be prepared to put in the time and 2) you may walk away, after hours of searching, with something amazing or nothing at all. To wit, I have found practically new Iro boots for $60, a new DVF leather jacket for $65, and COH boyfriend jeans for $20. Gems can be found. But for every gem, there are 2-3 trips of fruitless rack combing. If you can make your peace with that, this is a great little spot to spend a few hours on your weekend. read more

I was super excited to go to Buffalo Exchange until I was treated horribly. I went in to exchange a very nice pair of shoes that hadn't been even worn. I stepped in line and they wouldn't look at the shoes because apparently they already didn't like them. When I asked why they said "although they are nice shoes they are outdated" and sent me directly off. The place itself it also very dirty and smelled like weed. You may even have to dig through a bin or two. I have found amazing things here, some from even years ago that I still have. Furthermore: This is the best one in the country. The Chicago Buff? I could leave it. I tried to sell things there a million times and never got a deal. This place? They took most everything- which I think is why this place is awesome and has such a variety of items. SNOBBY STAFF & OVERPRICED VINTAGE! I've been going to B.E. for many years. It used to be the place to go if you only had $20 and wanted a mound of trendy jeans, shirts and shoes. But now its awful. Ive found shirts from Forever 21 that were priced higher than you would buy it brand new! Everything else is now overpriced and ugly. The staff seems to think they're way to trendy for their own good, resulting in horrible attitudes and customer service. The buy back system sucks. They wouldn't buy a pair of Jessica Simpson heels from me so I donated them and saw them on the shelf for sale the following week! Save your money. Go to Savers or some other independent thrift stores in the area. read more

Buffalo Exchange is a chain consignment store and I've been lucky enough to be able to frequent their locations in Berkeley, CA and Washington, DC with many great finds. After visiting two other used clothing shops in Albuquerque, my husband and I dropped in here and were blown away by the size of it (it's bigger than the three story Buffalo in Berkeley and about 10 times bigger than our local shop in DC). We must have spent well over an hour in here and didn't even have a chance to look though most of it. The proximity to the University did me well as I had no problem at all finding awesome dresses in XS and S and to make the trip even more pleasantly surprising, many of the dresses even fit me! For some reason, that's always more of a challenge that it would seem. By the time we went to the checkout, I think I had eight dresses/rompers and a top and my husband had found several short sleeved button down tops (some still had the tags on), all for a steal of a price. The staff we interacted with were very helpful and friendly, particularly the gentleman working the co-ed fitting room. They don't give out bags, but instead donate five cents for every bag they don't use to the charity of your choice from three options. I was happy carrying out my bundle of clothes knowing that my purchase helped local animal shelters. read more

I'm guessing my wife would give this at least four stars. Judging from other reviews I'm not the only man who's had trouble finding decent clothes at a fair price in this shop. On occasion, BAM, I find something well worth the $20+ price (about four times the cost of used and in the neighborhood of new digs) and I go home happy. Usually I wonder why I didn't go to a thrift store to begin with, where you're going to spend a little more time looking for the exact same stuff. Coincidentally, since I began thrift shopping I've learned that Albuquerque has a terrific selection, better than most cities. Actually, thanks to my experiences at Buffalo I can state that I now shop thrift stores first nearly every time, because it just makes cents--er, sense. Love, love, love this place! I travel to ABQ fairly often and Buffalo exchange is my first stop. The staff is friendly and helpful and clothing items are on trend, funky and stylish. The place is great. Jess the store manager has great style and is helpful with fashion advice when I ask. I rarely walk out of here empty handed and have been shopping here for over four years. This review is in regards to the men's department. My recent visit to BuffEx was not good. In fact, it was downright disappointing. I understand the concept of hidden treasures at consignment shops like these, but all the treasures at this location must be still lost at sea. I've been to my fair share of BuffEx stores around the country but the men's inventory here is just dismal. It's just a mediocre selection of some ok and a lot of really bad clothing and shoes. It's too bad because I've found some really cool items in the past from other BuffEx locations. Although service was quite friendly, the poor selection was less than desired. I've found some great stuff here - local bands that haven't printed new shirts since 2001, stuff that was removed from the shelves of certain department stores because it was deemed offensive, fifteen bucks for a brand new hoodie that would have sold for sixty at the mall, brand new steel-toed work boots for ten bucks. For the women, however, your SOL if you want anything cute bigger than a size two. When you sell your clothes there, they'll accept torn up modified stuff from wee girls, but not brand new stuff from my size ten g/f. read more

Buffalo Exchange used to be the place to be. Their selection was bomb, their prices cheap, but now it seems that thrifty is the style and so Buffalo has marked up their prices. Found a current trend moto jacket with my trade card, 42.00, leather. Good score. Other than that I was not impressed. The people that are doing the buying are taking items that you would wear on a greyhound bus to blend. I did see a few sanctuary items priced at 24.00 each, but passed. The point of sale person was not friendly at all, when I took my jacket to her she made it seem she was too busy to ring up the sale.
