I've been a customer of Buddha's for about 6 months since finding them on Yelp. I took my F150 to get a door latch looked at and also the brakes. They were able to fix the door for much less than the dealership quoted and didn't recommend getting the brakes done yet because it was unnecessary at the time. They also gave me a timeline for the brake repair and told me some things to watch out for that might indicate it needed to be done sooner. I was in the shop this week as I'm car shopping (brakes on the truck still holding up great) and wanted them to do an independent inspection on a used vehicle I'm considering purchasing. The guys were great and got me in for my unscheduled visit promptly and then got me the advice I needed and out of there just as quick! I'd recommend them to anyone. My radiator started forcibly spewing green liquid. I got it to a parking spot at Buddha's Garage in the middle of the night because someone had recommended it to a friend and the reviews were great. They told me what was obviously wrong, what was probably wrong, what I knew was wrong but didn't mention it because it was not the immediate issue, and the costs of each repair. The repair prices were very fair. The thing is they didn't charge me, they let me keep my inoperable car in their parking spot for a few days, and even meet buyers there. That saved me a whole lot of stress! They are so laid back and are really helpful. Of course I have an appointment for my new, used vehicle! I'll update on the repairs. I do wish they had more hours outside of my working schedule but I also want them to have a good quality of life so they can keep being awesome. read more

I was recommended this place from a neighbor. I had dumped bottle after bottle of coolant in my reservoir and cleared and refilled my freon for months. I dropped my car with them at like 5 minutes to closing. They found that there was a good sized hole burned into the line letting everything out. If I could give 10 stars, I would! It's taken me a while to write this review, but better late than never! I had a pretty nasty oil leak that was scarying me. I thought for sure some massive container inside my car that holds all my oil had burst open and definitely my entire engine was busted. (I know NOTHING about cars but do know that an oil leak this bad could mean something bad). I was so afraid of the cost of the repair but I finally decided I had to bite the bullet and get it looked at. I found Buddha's Garage on yelp (great reviews) and called on Christmas Eve to see if he could take a look at it for me. A few hours after I got a call from Dave - "Your car is ready". After Moving out of Austin, I still go back to my regulars, and this mechanic is definitely one of them. I trust them entirely with my car. It is a bit older, but I know the repairs will still cost me less than having another car note. I always call ahead of time and take a day off work to make my way there. It is about a 50 minute drive. I had been taking my car regularly, and had all oil changes done, they already know my car's history. Though I don't come all the way here for an oil change any longer, I will still make my way for the serious things. After dropping off my car, Uber will either take me to a friend's place, grab a bite to eat, or one time I was able to schedule my dentist appointment during that time as well (my dentist is here too) all depending on the length of time it will take to repair my car. I have never had any car issues after repairs. I trust them and I will continue making my drive to Buddha's. read more

Will and Paul were awesome. I dropped my truck off on a Friday. They called me at 2pm and asked if I had to have it back today and I did since we were going out of town. I came by to pick it up a little before 6pm when they close. They were not yet done with the repair, but Will and Paul stayed until 8pm to get it done! No one else would do that. They were very gracious and apologetic for making me wait, but these guys worked till 2 hours past closing with a massive rainstorm going on. They then triple checked it, test drove it, etc to make sure the repair was right. They also charged me exactly what was quoted (and was HALF of what another shop quoted!) The review hype is real. My car decided to blow a cylinder coil on Thanksgiving. Seeing as all shops are closed, I waited until this morning to give a call first thing. I believe I spoke with Vic - he told me if I could get the car in right away they'll take a look at it and see what they can do. I feared the worst. Looking online and understanding that the check engine error code I was getting can mean one of many things, I was worried about an autoshop taking advantage and making me pay for more than was necessary. Well just a couple hours after brining it in, they called me. Recommended new spark plugs and a new ignition coil and said they can have it ready to go by the end of the day. Finding an honest mechanic is like finding an honest politician - I didn't think they really existed. Add affordability and speedy service to that, and you might as well be seeking the last unicorn. So I guess it isn't a stretch to say that stumbling across this little family owned and operated shop was shocking! Seriously, I am surprised a unicorn didn't bust straight out of the wall, fart sparkly rainbows, and give me a big hug. I am admittedly hard on my car and cringe every time I have to take it in. It could be anything from the gas cap being on wrong (yes, done this) to the transmission, and I wouldn't know the difference. I am not an idiot, I am simply an expert in other things ...things that are not mechanical. Hard on the breaks, heavy on the pedal, and light on the TLC and vehicular knowledge: I might as well stamp "sucker" on my forehead as I roll into the shop. It's a good thing that I'm a great judge of character and I know a con when I hear one, otherwise I would still be going to Jiffy Lube, Break Check, or Firestone for all of my unnecessary and overpriced car repairs. But man did I hate shopping for the least of all evils when it came to mechanics. Well, shop evil no more! From the moment I spoke to them on the phone, Buddha's Garage was the opposite of typical mechanic's shop. They answered the phone immediately, were friendly, got me in that day, and were the epitome of professional from start to finish. Since I had no idea what was wrong with my car, I simply dropped it off, gave them my best guess, and admitted to myself that I might as well have said: "Please take my money." But they didn't. I dropped it off that afternoon and David, aka "Buddha," talked with me right away about the car. Then he called me early the next day to go over all of the possible repairs, none of which were surprising, and estimated he would be done in 2 days. I know they would have been able to rush faster were it an emergency, but it wasn't necessary at the time. I had break issues, a headlight out, dirty fuel injectors (however you say that), a squeaky belt, and a few other gems hiding under the hood. He explained everything thoroughly and honestly, told me where I could cut corners or wait on things, and best of all, gave me a repair quote that almost made rainbows shoot out of my butt! A day later they called to let me know my car was ready a day early. I picked it up and they provided me a simple itemized invoice that matched my phone quote exactly (no surprises), and I was out of there with my ride in 5 minutes! Seriously, I will continue taking my car here forever if I can. As a business owner who depends heavily on her wheels, it is such a relief to have found a good, honest, affordable, and fast mechanic. I don't know if they'll appreciate being compared to rainbow farting unicorns, but I hope they take it as the compliment it was meant to be and keep up the great work! I went to Buddha's to have my brakes done. It's a one-bay shop run by a couple--he works on the cars (I didn't catch his name, but presumably Buddha), she manages the front office. I had my brakes done which is important, but kinda cut and dry, so no real insights there. But what really struck me about the place was the chat I had with the owner as I was cashing out. He said that he had opened about a year ago because he was tired of how mechanics were always trying to upsell people on things they "needed" (but didn't really need at all) and that having his own place really gave him the freedom to have integrity. After a new gas cap failed to fix the problem I conceded that I needed to get it figured out by a professional. Buddha had it figured out in no time, already has parts on order for me, and the price quoted for repairs is way under what I originally expected to pay. I drive a 14 year old beater, so I have become quite familiar with a lot of the mechanics in the North Austin area. I've also had some pretty bad experiences, sometimes the issue isn't fixed at all, once it was actually worse when I picked up my car. I had a really good experience here though. My car was shuddering and shaking badly when idling. I called Buddha's Garage and they were able to get me in the next day. The problem ended up being an ignition coil and my last old motor mount needed to be replaced. The price was very fair and reasonable - the price for the motor mount was less than when I had the other ones replaced elsewhere. They even filled up my windshield washer fluid, which had just ran out, and put air in my tires (I am notoriously bad at remembering to do this). My car runs great now and it didn't take them long to get the work done. The reviews here are accurate - if you want a trustworthy mechanic who does good work at a fair price this is the place to go. read more

I somehow survived for several summers in this town without working AC in my Civic. How? Couldn't tell ya. Why? Laziness and cheapness, mostly. But after a while, enough was enough. So I brought it to Buddha's. Dave got the cold air blowing again, and for a very reasonable price. Bonus points go to him for being at the shop while his wife was about to have a baby, and for opening up again only a few days after, and for doing all the work skillfully and promptly despite having more important things on his mind. Like his wife and a new baby and stuff. (More bonus points for being so endearing about it, too. He was super excited about the whole thing. Makes sense that a man like that also puts so much care into his work.) I hear they're gonna move the shop up north, which is much further from my house. I was referred to Buddha's Garage from two good friends who I know would never steer me wrong. I was just needing some front end brakes done and my yoya(toyota) was having a shaky issue that I really needed to get taken care of- not part of the major toyota recall stuff, this baby has 230,000 glorious miles on it. Being a single mother on a budget, I really feared taking it to a franchise place to just have some cocky older beer belly guy talk down to me for being a girl that doesn't get scheduled maintenance done right at the time it should be done and then ask me to fork over 400-600 of my hard earned dollars and pressure me to also get 2 or 3 other things done, and leave my car for a day or so. NONE OF THIS HAPPENED AT BUDDHA'S GARAGE!!!!!!!!! It was like I was an actual human being!!! Initially, I called kinda last minute to get my car looked at but David very kindly offered to check it out the next day. When I told him I wouldn't be able to take it til after I was off work around 5:30 or 6,which was close to their closing time, he said no problem!!! I took it in and was greeted by his wife and soon my yoya was being checked out. When it came time to be given the details of what all my yoya needed, David sat down and spoke normal terms and what he felt needed to be done and explained how my tires were also adding to my brake issue. His wife, Kayla, who was also a pleasure, printed up a slip that broke down the price of everything and that was also explained bit by bit by David. He told me what prices he thought would also be given at a major auto shop and why he felt those were just ridiculous. I took yoya in the next morning and felt like I was leaving her in great hands. Kayla gave me a round about time of what time it should be ready, and let me know she would call when it was ready. Sure enough, pretty much right at the minute-maybe even 10 minutes earlier, my yoya was ready!! Taking her out on the road again was extra pleasing knowing she and my family were safer and at a price that didn't break the bank. Best experience with an auto shop EVER!!!! Note to self (which Kayla gave ahead of time thankfully) cash or check only for now as they are still in the opening the business part of the shop but that does not keep them from still doing a great job! read more

After living in Austin for about 8 years, I *finally* found a good, honest mechanic. I drive a 1999 Plymouth Neon with about 146k miles on it, so Lord knows I've seen almost every mechanic in Austin, and I've been to almost every chain. I always had the sneaking suspicion that I was getting ripped off other places (with the exception of Yost Automotive, but they're so crowded and not open on weekends). I never feel that way here. Dave always takes the time to answer all of my questions and explain any possible problems to me. He'll often give me a ride if I need one. Once he drove to my house and picked up my car to check it out, told me there was nothing majorly wrong with it, and dropped it back off- all while I was at work, and didn't charge me a dime. The work he has done has always been affordable. Dave is a genuinely good guy and a knowledgeable mechanic. If you have an aging car, I recommend you get to know him! read more

I can't say enough good things about this place, but here are a few: 1. The people working there are insanely nice. Friendliest auto shop I've ever been to, hands down. 2. The price was good. I've had other places in Austin charge much more. 3. I came for an oil change and a brake check. They did the oil change, reset the maintenance light (which the last two places forgot to do), topped off all my fluids, and put more air in my tires. They said my brakes were perfectly fine and explained the (harmless) reason they had made a funny noise before. I think a lot of places would have charged me for a brake service that I didn't need, knowing that I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Dave is pretty wonderful! My car's wire harness was destroyed, and he allowed me to keep my car at the shop for free while I figured out what in the heck to do after he told me the car could take $2000+ to repair. When my parents came to pick up my car in their flatbed, he helped us load it up (pretty challenging) and was incredibly kind. He even gave me a free Go Local card since the ones he had expired in March. He refused any payment until I basically forced money into his hand for his help loading the car, keeping the car, and helping us get the window down. I ended up taking my car to a different mechanic (my parents' in College Station that was able to fix it for $350), but I will definitely be back at Buddha's for any minor mishaps with my sassy Taurus due to Dave's kindness and honesty. read more

After attempting (and being turned away) to get an oil change at Austin's Alignment and Brakes. I did a quick search and made my way to Buddha's Garage. The aforementioned business claimed that they are booked many days in advance and an oil change would be impossible unless I left the vehicle with them for the entire day. Upon arriving at Buddha's I was told a similar story, high ranked successful business, I get it. However, unlike the other business, they got my car in immediately and I was out the door in an hour!! My Audi's brake warning replacement warning was on, they informed me I still had 40% left, that the repair was unnecessary for a few months, and pre-quoted me for the eventual replacement. Exactly as advertised! I went to Buddah's Garage after researching and finding all the excellent reviews. Wife had taken breaks all the way down to metal on metal on her SUV so I knew the chain stores would take us for as much as they could. I called David on a Friday afternoon and he told me he was booked all day Saturday but if I could drop it off he'd get back with me about the price and could have it ready Monday. The price was about half the price I paid the last time I had my brakes done and I hadn't taken them down to metal on metal. He charges labor on time, not for each part you need! He even tells you the price of each part and offers to let you buy the part if you can find it cheaper. I never write reviews but feel that David and Buddah's Garage deserve the respect of FIVE STARS hands down! He will be my mechanic from here on out. read more
