My car wouldn't start. Thought it was the alternator or battery. Turned out to be the starter. Called Dave around 1pm Fri and told him I had to get that car to Dallas the next day as I was starting a new job. And he just plain took care of me. Turned out to be the starter. Got me out of there by 5pm. On top of that, Dave is just a plain nice guy who loves talking about cars and other topics. You can tell the guys who work there are also buddies that enjoy their jobs. Highly recommend this garage. read more

We took our ford in for issues that other garage places wanted to charge an arm and a leg for something small like an oil leak. Great service and awesome customer service. They explained everything that was wrong with the car and everything they were going to do. Definitely recommend this place!! We will be coming back for all of our car needs! read more

I love Buddha's garage and really trust them with my car. I brought my car in to their shop with several issues. They were quickly able to figure out what was wrong with it and give me a quote that I felt was more than fair. They even stayed open a few minutes after closing to make sure I was able to get my car the same day. I have had no problems since! read more

Took my car in the other day to see if I could get my suspension adjusted. Even though the suspension on my car wasn't able to be adjusted, they took the car up on the lift and showed me why and explained the reasons why in detail. They got me in and out quickly and provided very friendly service. I would definitely recommend and do business with them in the future. read more

I've been a customer of Buddha's for about 6 months since finding them on Yelp. I took my F150 to get a door latch looked at and also the brakes. They were able to fix the door for much less than the dealership quoted and didn't recommend getting the brakes done yet because it was unnecessary at the time. They also gave me a timeline for the brake repair and told me some things to watch out for that might indicate it needed to be done sooner. I was in the shop this week as I'm car shopping (brakes on the truck still holding up great) and wanted them to do an independent inspection on a used vehicle I'm considering purchasing. The guys were great and got me in for my unscheduled visit promptly and then got me the advice I needed and out of there just as quick! I'd recommend them to anyone. They are honest and very friendly, are a local business, and most importantly do great work at a fair price. read more

My radiator started forcibly spewing green liquid. I got it to a parking spot at Buddha's Garage in the middle of the night because someone had recommended it to a friend and the reviews were great. They told me what was obviously wrong, what was probably wrong, what I knew was wrong but didn't mention it because it was not the immediate issue, and the costs of each repair. The repair prices were very fair. The thing is they didn't charge me, they let me keep my inoperable car in their parking spot for a few days, and even meet buyers there. That saved me a whole lot of stress! They are so laid back and are really helpful. Of course I have an appointment for my new, used vehicle! I'll update on the repairs. I do wish they had more hours outside of my working schedule but I also want them to have a good quality of life so they can keep being awesome. read more

We took our car to fix the AC, they looked at it and must have moved a vent or something. But they said there was nothing wrong. No charge! We are definitely coming back when there is an issue. Very capable honest guys! read more

I was recommended this place from a neighbor. I had dumped bottle after bottle of coolant in my reservoir and cleared and refilled my freon for months. I dropped my car with them at like 5 minutes to closing. They found that there was a good sized hole burned into the line letting everything out. They called me around 9 am the next morning and were already done pulling and replacing the damaged part. I now have AC that blows freezer cold. Thanks, Buddha's Garage! read more

They got us in quick and fixed a problem that several shops/dealerships had not been able to diagnose. Very friendly and professional. We will be back read more

I had a really good experience here. The customer service is good and the turnaround time is good, they only had my car for about a day before I got it back even though I could see they had a lot of other cars to work on too. I definitely would bring my car back here. read more

If I could give 10 stars, I would! It's taken me a while to write this review, but better late than never! I had a pretty nasty oil leak that was scarying me. I thought for sure some massive container inside my car that holds all my oil had burst open and definitely my entire engine was busted. (I know NOTHING about cars but do know that an oil leak this bad could mean something bad). I was so afraid of the cost of the repair but I finally decided I had to bite the bullet and get it looked at. I found Buddha's Garage on yelp (great reviews) and called on Christmas Eve to see if he could take a look at it for me. A few hours after I got a call from Dave - "Your car is ready". And the price was unbelievable. This was over 3 years ago and Dave, Will, and team have since become our "go-to" Mechanics. Trust worthy, fair, and excellent service. read more

The team at Buddha's garage is speedy, honest, and reliable. They respond promptly, got my car looked at and got me an estimate quickly, and had me rolling same day. I highly recommend Dave and his crew for your auto needs! Thanks again, Dave! read more

Finding an honest mechanic is like finding an honest politician - I didn't think they really existed. Add affordability and speedy service to that, and you might as well be seeking the last unicorn. So I guess it isn't a stretch to say that stumbling across this little family owned and operated shop was shocking! Seriously, I am surprised a unicorn didn't bust straight out of the wall, fart sparkly rainbows, and give me a big hug. I am admittedly hard on my car and cringe every time I have to take it in. It could be anything from the gas cap being on wrong (yes, done this) to the transmission, and I wouldn't know the difference. I am not an idiot, I am simply an expert in other things ...things that are not mechanical. Hard on the breaks, heavy on the pedal, and light on the TLC and vehicular knowledge: I might as well stamp "sucker" on my forehead as I roll into the shop. It's a good thing that I'm a great judge of character and I know a con when I hear one, otherwise I would still be going to Jiffy Lube, Break Check, or Firestone for all of my unnecessary and overpriced car repairs. But man did I hate shopping for the least of all evils when it came to mechanics. Well, shop evil no more! From the moment I spoke to them on the phone, Buddha's Garage was the opposite of typical mechanic's shop. They answered the phone immediately, were friendly, got me in that day, and were the epitome of professional from start to finish. Since I had no idea what was wrong with my car, I simply dropped it off, gave them my best guess, and admitted to myself that I might as well have said: "Please take my money." But they didn't. I dropped it off that afternoon and David, aka "Buddha," talked with me right away about the car. Then he called me early the next day to go over all of the possible repairs, none of which were surprising, and estimated he would be done in 2 days. I know they would have been able to rush faster were it an emergency, but it wasn't necessary at the time. I had break issues, a headlight out, dirty fuel injectors (however you say that), a squeaky belt, and a few other gems hiding under the hood. He explained everything thoroughly and honestly, told me where I could cut corners or wait on things, and best of all, gave me a repair quote that almost made rainbows shoot out of my butt! A day later they called to let me know my car was ready a day early. I picked it up and they provided me a simple itemized invoice that matched my phone quote exactly (no surprises), and I was out of there with my ride in 5 minutes! Seriously, I will continue taking my car here forever if I can. As a business owner who depends heavily on her wheels, it is such a relief to have found a good, honest, affordable, and fast mechanic. I don't know if they'll appreciate being compared to rainbow farting unicorns, but I hope they take it as the compliment it was meant to be and keep up the great work! I look forward to sending them all the referrals they deserve. read more

Great place. They are great about giving quotes, communicating well, and providing good car care.

Let me tell you how awesome Dave is from Buddha's Garage. He has saved our work fleet vehicles from impending doom many times. Buddha's Garage is -quick -service rocks -honest -affordable...what? Did I say affordable? Yes. You don't have that pants down feeling dealing with Dave. All of our quotes have been incredibly reasonable. I don't think I can offer more reasons not to call Buddha's Garage for your car repair needs. Just do it. read more

I went to Buddha's to have my brakes done. It's a one-bay shop run by a couple--he works on the cars (I didn't catch his name, but presumably Buddha), she manages the front office. I had my brakes done which is important, but kinda cut and dry, so no real insights there. But what really struck me about the place was the chat I had with the owner as I was cashing out. He said that he had opened about a year ago because he was tired of how mechanics were always trying to upsell people on things they "needed" (but didn't really need at all) and that having his own place really gave him the freedom to have integrity. What a great attitude for an entrepreneur! I will definitely be back. read more

Wow. Five stars. Yes. An honest, friendly, thorough, communicative, hard-working mechanic. Dave offered great explanations, useful advice, and was patient with my many questions. He got to the core of my car problem (it was the harmonic balancer - doesn't that kind of sound divine?). Buddha has now officially restored balance of harmony. Add me to the customer4lyfe list. read more

Buddhas Garage is unique in many ways; family owned and operated, one mechanic, one bay. It is wise to keep these things in mind when planning your repair BUT working with Dave & Kayla was pain free, straight up and affordable. Rather than blather, allow me to simply list what was accomplished...in and out in one day. You be the judge. Computer diagnostic test, oil change, cooling system flush, transmission service, replace spark plugs and wires, replace distributer/rotor, replace air filter, replace valve cover gasket, new headlight assembly, check tire pressure...all for $350 plus parts at cost...no $150 thing-a-ma-jigs you've never heard of! And...my Accord runs like a top. Wonder what all that would cost at a dealership...hmmmm. For quality work, honest estimates, no up selling, warm environ...check out Buddhas Garage! p.s. You won't find Fox news(?) blaring lies with great enthusiasm via HD flatscreen, either! read more

These guys are great. Got my vehicle in with a day or two notice. Prices are reasonable and I checked their work after and everything was definitely worked on/replaced that they said they did. I'll be back for any vehicle work I can't DIY. Prices are quite reasonable and they use good parts. Employees are pleasant to work with both on phone and in person. read more

I checked Buddha's Garage today on recommendation of several co-workers who swear by Dave and his shop. I kept getting a check engine light for an EVAP leak. After a new gas cap failed to fix the problem I conceded that I needed to get it figured out by a professional. Buddha had it figured out in no time, already has parts on order for me, and the price quoted for repairs is way under what I originally expected to pay. If you're looking for an honest shop, key word here being HONEST, in Austin for auto repair and maintenance check these guys out! They won't sell you services you don't need, they won't up-charge you for parts, and most importantly they know their stuff. Awesome family run shop. read more

After Moving out of Austin, I still go back to my regulars, and this mechanic is definitely one of them. I trust them entirely with my car. It is a bit older, but I know the repairs will still cost me less than having another car note. I always call ahead of time and take a day off work to make my way there. It is about a 50 minute drive. I had been taking my car regularly, and had all oil changes done, they already know my car's history. Though I don't come all the way here for an oil change any longer, I will still make my way for the serious things. After dropping off my car, Uber will either take me to a friend's place, grab a bite to eat, or one time I was able to schedule my dentist appointment during that time as well (my dentist is here too) all depending on the length of time it will take to repair my car. I have never had any car issues after repairs. I trust them and I will continue making my drive to Buddha's. read more

If I could give these guys 10 stars, I would. Short version: - finds what's wrong with my car that nobody else can figure out - Amazing prices, completely reasonable - all of the nicest guys you could ask for - goes out of their way to be helpful - honest, straightforward, does not try to screw you. I will believe anything they say - we have many mechanics close to us, but I will drive over 15 minutes north just to go to Buddhas This review is short, I apologize, but long overdue. Great job, guys!! read more

I drive a 14 year old beater, so I have become quite familiar with a lot of the mechanics in the North Austin area. I've also had some pretty bad experiences, sometimes the issue isn't fixed at all, once it was actually worse when I picked up my car. I had a really good experience here though. My car was shuddering and shaking badly when idling. I called Buddha's Garage and they were able to get me in the next day. The problem ended up being an ignition coil and my last old motor mount needed to be replaced. The price was very fair and reasonable - the price for the motor mount was less than when I had the other ones replaced elsewhere. They even filled up my windshield washer fluid, which had just ran out, and put air in my tires (I am notoriously bad at remembering to do this). My car runs great now and it didn't take them long to get the work done. The reviews here are accurate - if you want a trustworthy mechanic who does good work at a fair price this is the place to go. read more

Found my mechanic from now on! New to Austin still & didn't know a place in town for repairs on my Volkswagen. I don't know much about cars & was worried about getting screwed over as I'm sure anyone is. The owner David was welcoming & personable. With all the issues I was having I was expecting my car to be there for 3-4 days. He said he had a full weeks schedule & might not be able to do my diagnostic today. I dropped my car off at 11am & got a call it would be ready by 5pm. Amazing! Pricing was very fair. I'm more than happy. My suspension needed work too & instead of saying it needed this & that replaced (when I wouldn't have known any better) he was honest & said it just needed bolts tightened. My check engine light is off, my engine isn't noisy anymore, & my wheels don't rattle. Get your car here now! read more

Buddha's Garage - Good as new! - Auto Repair Near Me - Austin, Texas

I somehow survived for several summers in this town without working AC in my Civic. How? Couldn't tell ya. Why? Laziness and cheapness, mostly. But after a while, enough was enough. So I brought it to Buddha's. Dave got the cold air blowing again, and for a very reasonable price. Bonus points go to him for being at the shop while his wife was about to have a baby, and for opening up again only a few days after, and for doing all the work skillfully and promptly despite having more important things on his mind. Like his wife and a new baby and stuff. (More bonus points for being so endearing about it, too. He was super excited about the whole thing. Makes sense that a man like that also puts so much care into his work.) I hear they're gonna move the shop up north, which is much further from my house. But I expect I'll keep going back to him for future work, just the same. read more

I was referred to Buddha's Garage from two good friends who I know would never steer me wrong. I was just needing some front end brakes done and my yoya(toyota) was having a shaky issue that I really needed to get taken care of- not part of the major toyota recall stuff, this baby has 230,000 glorious miles on it. Being a single mother on a budget, I really feared taking it to a franchise place to just have some cocky older beer belly guy talk down to me for being a girl that doesn't get scheduled maintenance done right at the time it should be done and then ask me to fork over 400-600 of my hard earned dollars and pressure me to also get 2 or 3 other things done, and leave my car for a day or so. NONE OF THIS HAPPENED AT BUDDHA'S GARAGE!!!!!!!!! It was like I was an actual human being!!! Initially, I called kinda last minute to get my car looked at but David very kindly offered to check it out the next day. When I told him I wouldn't be able to take it til after I was off work around 5:30 or 6,which was close to their closing time, he said no problem!!! I took it in and was greeted by his wife and soon my yoya was being checked out. When it came time to be given the details of what all my yoya needed, David sat down and spoke normal terms and what he felt needed to be done and explained how my tires were also adding to my brake issue. His wife, Kayla, who was also a pleasure, printed up a slip that broke down the price of everything and that was also explained bit by bit by David. He told me what prices he thought would also be given at a major auto shop and why he felt those were just ridiculous. I took yoya in the next morning and felt like I was leaving her in great hands. Kayla gave me a round about time of what time it should be ready, and let me know she would call when it was ready. Sure enough, pretty much right at the minute-maybe even 10 minutes earlier, my yoya was ready!! Taking her out on the road again was extra pleasing knowing she and my family were safer and at a price that didn't break the bank. Best experience with an auto shop EVER!!!! Note to self (which Kayla gave ahead of time thankfully) cash or check only for now as they are still in the opening the business part of the shop but that does not keep them from still doing a great job! read more

After living in Austin for about 8 years, I *finally* found a good, honest mechanic. I drive a 1999 Plymouth Neon with about 146k miles on it, so Lord knows I've seen almost every mechanic in Austin, and I've been to almost every chain. I always had the sneaking suspicion that I was getting ripped off other places (with the exception of Yost Automotive, but they're so crowded and not open on weekends). I never feel that way here. Dave always takes the time to answer all of my questions and explain any possible problems to me. He'll often give me a ride if I need one. Once he drove to my house and picked up my car to check it out, told me there was nothing majorly wrong with it, and dropped it back off- all while I was at work, and didn't charge me a dime. The work he has done has always been affordable. Dave is a genuinely good guy and a knowledgeable mechanic. If you have an aging car, I recommend you get to know him! read more

After the worst disaster of a full front and back replacement of a brake job done at NTB- 8002 Research location, I found Dave and Buddha's Garage because I needed someone trustworthy to assess the brakes and fix the problem. He gave us the 5 star service that he has so clearly earned by being honest, patient, kind and performing the best service work possible. I highly recommend that you stay away from the big chains that you think will stand behind their work with their big dollars and let Dave and Buddha's Garage take care of your car repair needs. His reputation is valuable to him and he proves it, NTB treated us like they were too big to care. I will use Dave for all of our car repairs and maintenance and tell everyone I know to do so as well. read more

Will and Paul were awesome. I dropped my truck off on a Friday. They called me at 2pm and asked if I had to have it back today and I did since we were going out of town. I came by to pick it up a little before 6pm when they close. They were not yet done with the repair, but Will and Paul stayed until 8pm to get it done! No one else would do that. They were very gracious and apologetic for making me wait, but these guys worked till 2 hours past closing with a massive rainstorm going on. They then triple checked it, test drove it, etc to make sure the repair was right. They also charged me exactly what was quoted (and was HALF of what another shop quoted!) I will definitely be back for any vehicle needs! Thanks, Guys! read more

I can't say enough good things about this place, but here are a few: 1. The people working there are insanely nice. Friendliest auto shop I've ever been to, hands down. 2. The price was good. I've had other places in Austin charge much more. 3. I came for an oil change and a brake check. They did the oil change, reset the maintenance light (which the last two places forgot to do), topped off all my fluids, and put more air in my tires. They said my brakes were perfectly fine and explained the (harmless) reason they had made a funny noise before. I think a lot of places would have charged me for a brake service that I didn't need, knowing that I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Honesty is huge, and because of that, I will absolutely be a repeat customer. read more

The review hype is real. My car decided to blow a cylinder coil on Thanksgiving. Seeing as all shops are closed, I waited until this morning to give a call first thing. I believe I spoke with Vic - he told me if I could get the car in right away they'll take a look at it and see what they can do. I feared the worst. Looking online and understanding that the check engine error code I was getting can mean one of many things, I was worried about an autoshop taking advantage and making me pay for more than was necessary. Well just a couple hours after brining it in, they called me. Recommended new spark plugs and a new ignition coil and said they can have it ready to go by the end of the day. Picked up my car an hour later and I'm back on the road. The price was completely reasonable and the honesty is incredibly appreciated. They just earned a continued customer. Thanks guys. read more

David and the crew has always been great to me. He doesn't beat around the bush, he diagnoses your car and tells you exactly what he's found out, and what he suggests needs to be done - he'll give you a flat out price before starting any actual work. I've grown up fixing my own cars from being screwed over by multiple different mechanics and shops. But I wouldn't hesitate taking any of my cars to David. Straight up, communicative, honest, and friendly shop. He gets my car in and out of the shop quickly, without skimping out on quality. read more

Dave is pretty wonderful! My car's wire harness was destroyed, and he allowed me to keep my car at the shop for free while I figured out what in the heck to do after he told me the car could take $2000+ to repair. When my parents came to pick up my car in their flatbed, he helped us load it up (pretty challenging) and was incredibly kind. He even gave me a free Go Local card since the ones he had expired in March. He refused any payment until I basically forced money into his hand for his help loading the car, keeping the car, and helping us get the window down. I ended up taking my car to a different mechanic (my parents' in College Station that was able to fix it for $350), but I will definitely be back at Buddha's for any minor mishaps with my sassy Taurus due to Dave's kindness and honesty. read more

After attempting (and being turned away) to get an oil change at Austin's Alignment and Brakes. I did a quick search and made my way to Buddha's Garage. The aforementioned business claimed that they are booked many days in advance and an oil change would be impossible unless I left the vehicle with them for the entire day. Upon arriving at Buddha's I was told a similar story, high ranked successful business, I get it. However, unlike the other business, they got my car in immediately and I was out the door in an hour!! My Audi's brake warning replacement warning was on, they informed me I still had 40% left, that the repair was unnecessary for a few months, and pre-quoted me for the eventual replacement. I greatly appreciated the honesty. read more

Exactly as advertised! I went to Buddah's Garage after researching and finding all the excellent reviews. Wife had taken breaks all the way down to metal on metal on her SUV so I knew the chain stores would take us for as much as they could. I called David on a Friday afternoon and he told me he was booked all day Saturday but if I could drop it off he'd get back with me about the price and could have it ready Monday. The price was about half the price I paid the last time I had my brakes done and I hadn't taken them down to metal on metal. He charges labor on time, not for each part you need! He even tells you the price of each part and offers to let you buy the part if you can find it cheaper. I never write reviews but feel that David and Buddah's Garage deserve the respect of FIVE STARS hands down! He will be my mechanic from here on out. read more

I definitely recommend this shop for ALL your auto repairs. I was quoted almost $700 on a job. These awesome guys tested and drove and drove and drove my car. They looked at everything and confirmed I did not need half of what I was quoted. They are honest, and tell you what you need, and in the order you need it. Will and Dave told me what I could wait on and what was unnecessary. I have NEVER experienced this kind (or any kind) of honesty in an auto repair shop. !!! Buddha's Garage was worth the trip to North Austin!!! read more

Honest garage with fast service. Every time I've used Buddha's, they've gotten the car in and out the same day. To top it off, I got quotes from Yost, Precision, and a couple other places around town. They were all 200 or more over what I was charged at Buddha's. read more

This was my first experience at the shop after it came highly recommended by a good friend who is a mechanic for the city of austin. My friend told me it was the best shop in Austin, with the best prices. And I can see why. Thankfully I did not have a major issue, but the manager took really good care of me anyway. I told him what was going on and he stepped up while everyone else was busy with other vehicles and took care of the problem for me. Like I said, it was nothing major but kindness and great customer service is always major in any situation. I will definitely be a return customer. read more
