These guys are awesome. An honest, straightforward shop that knows what they're doing. I've brought my car in twice now for a variety of repairs. The first: a hodgepodge of things needed to pass inspection. Because my little Honda is getting up in age and things obviously are getting worn, I am always wary of being duped into spending money I don't need to spend. I asked around for quotes for the specific repairs needed (car had already been failed at inspection so I sort of knew the issue) and these guys gave me the most straightforward answer. Every other place said "well come in and we'll charge you $100 initial diagnosis fee" or up-quoted me a full transmission service for just needing my fluid topped off etc. These guys just gave me the numbers for specific stuff I wanted and stuck to it. If they didn't know yet, they said so. When it was diagnosed, they told me, and we said go for it. Simple. My husband and I were very impressed at the quality work and relaxed, non-salesy attitude of the shop. At that visit they did give me fair warning that my radiator cap had been cracking for a while, a quote, and what to look out for (smoke). No other oil change place/shop around that time had noticed this (I have definitely gotten many suggestions on optional things) Second visit: my hood started smoking several months later, which Dave had predicted. I called, they told me they'd squeeze me in to fix the radiator. Next day, done! These guys do great work for a much better price than I've found elsewhere. I just moved to Austin from San Antonio and when my clutch went out on my Mazda I was panicked about who to turn to. I did some searching and found Buddha's. I was really nervous about the price. I had gotten some quotes from other places but I was worried about being stuck with other repairs above the quoted price. My 1998 White Accord (218,000 miles) had problems. Engine light and a shop in Round Rock told me it needed a new Cat and O2 Sensor. Brought to Budda's and Will found the problem...after 3-4 days it was a map sensor o-ring. Total charge $80 for all that Detective Work to find the problem and an o-ring. Took it home and that weekend the engine light game back on. Those pesky 1457 Evap code were haunting the car. I brought it back and told David to keep it until it's fixed. It is now fixed after replacing the Evap canister and solenoid. $385 bucks later it is fixed! Yeahhhhhhhhh. These guy's never gave up and I can't be happier. I found this garage via Yelp. I took my car into Lamb's automotive shop yesterday to have my battery replaced. I came out with a bulb out on my low beam. (curious) I took it back in there to have them replace the bulb. I was quoted an outrageous price. They said the bulb was expensive and would take 1.5 hours to replace. That did not feel right to me so I went home and looked for an HONEST automotive repair place via Yelp. I called Budda garage because of their outstanding reviews. Dave answered the phone and explained that I needed a bulb replaced on a 2012 Buick Lacrosse. He said that he did not have it in stock, but could have it at his shop in an hour. He quoted me a price that was a fraction of what I was quoted at Lamb's. I took my car over to the shop and was in and out in 15 minutes. His sister was helping him out in the front office. I asked her what made him honest? She said that their mom raised them, to be honest. Dave had worked for other automotive shops and they were not honest. He had to be true to himself. That is why he started his own garage. He could be an honest mechanic. I told her that honest and automotive was an oxymoron. They just did not go together. I would recommend this shop to every female. If you are a woman and go into an automotive shop, then you are a lamb being lead to slaughter. This place is wonderful!! I went there for an oil change based on the reviews posted below and because it was close to my house. I'm so happy I found David and his excellent customer service. He was very helpful on the phone, explained my options clearly, answered all my questions, and never once tried to upsell. He checked out my car and told me the repairs I could expect down the road but didn't try to push me into fixing anything that wasn't essential. When I arrived there was a car in the bay and he told me it would be a few minutes before he could get to mine. When he finished with mine he even apologized for the delay, even though I was in no hurry and he had taken the time to check on me several times while I waited. I'd recommend this place to anyone - - so glad to know there's a decent mechanic in town who cares about customers and quality service! read more

Even though I have no idea how much car parts are and how much labor usually is, I felt better about giving these guys my money instead of giving it to some national chain because of their honest reputation. I knew they weren't out to swindle me. Infact, I paid in cash (because credit card processing fees are insane) and he rounded down my total, to make it a flat fee. I was pleased to see the positive reviews of this shop, but I cannot concur. Been twice now with a Lexus SUV. Both times I left the car to be checked out. Both times they said they couldn't fix the problem and sent me elsewhere. Second time I picked up the vehicle, there were more problems than the day before when I brought it in (power windows stopped working). Not saying they caused that problem, but the timing is curious. The guys at Buddha's Garage are honest and go out of their way to make sure they give you the best service at the best possible price. Back in 2012 they really saved me from fixing an old VW bug. At that time I was a single mom in nursing school, and David (Buddha) chose to not charge me for the hours they invested trying to figure out the mess with my electrical system, he informed me the car wasn't worth the money to fix it and to invest in something that would be dependable. I followed his advice and have been a Buddha's fan ever since. They are by far the best, most honest garage in Austin. Now I have a BMW with the dreaded "service engine soon" light and Buddha's always takes care of it! Occasionally I have to take my BMW to the dealer for diagnostics and Buddha's is ALWAYS half the price of the BMW dealership. Buddha's will never charge you for a service you don't need and has proven this time and time again.... Will is super nice and personable, he always communicates regarding price and the amount of time the repair will take to work with my busy schedule. I had a radiator go out on my 2007 Subaru Forester a few weeks back. I Although I've lived in Austin 26 years, and in the past, usually had the dealer service the vehicle, but I retired last fall, and no longer can afford to have their services. I had checked and they wanted at least $900 or more to replace it--money that was beyond what I was willing to pay. After checking with Yelp, I saw that as of that date, they had nearly 500 5-Star review. You can't fake that. It had gone out on a Thursday, I called them Friday and they said it might be Wednesday until they could get to it, and that was soon enough for me. When I called back Monday morning, they said they could start on it that afternoon. They kept it over night and had it done by about 1 pm the next day. The vehicle has 105,000 miles on it, so I figured I'd have them go ahead and replace the hoses and thermostat since they'd have the radiator out, and that'd be one thing less to worry about down the road. The whole bill came in at around $480 or so, and since I'm a senior citizen (Geezer,) they even cut me some slack on the labor, and knocked it down a few bucks. When it was done, I was satisfied with the price, and was happy to patronize a unique, Austin business, where the owner is someone who actually works there, as opposed to a chain store. Dave even picked me up when the car was done, and he drove his Lead Sled, a '49 Merc' "Rat Rod" convertable, about which he told me over the phone, before he left to pick me up, that I would hear him when he pulled up. Ha! He was correct. Also, when I was settling up for it, there was another customer dropping off his car. I told him that I was happy with the work they'd just done, and told him I found them on Yelp. He replied that that was how he found out about them as well. Everyone I met at the shop was courteous and respectful, but most of all, they did good work at a fair price, and they didn't try to upset me on anything. Other auto mechanic shops should check out Buddha's if they want to know how to do customer service right. I couldn't recommend them any more enthusiastically, and now I know as long as I'm around, I'll have an honest, dependable and most of all, affordable auto repair shop I can turn to when I need help. read more

Brought our 2013 Town and Country here for myriad issues. They fixed the big issue same day (driver's side window disappeared into the door), fixed another for free (passenger-side sliding window barely operated), and told us another didn't need to be fixed when I know another shop would've gouged us (brakes were squealing like a poked pig). Firstly, there is no problem bringing your car to these guys for service. They are very honest about the car's problems and price is fair. Had my brakes checked and pads and rotors replaced months ago. Everything is good. (Brake inspection was for free) That's why I decided to come back for other service. The only issue is, as they are getting more and more popular and busy, it's less possible to walk-in in the morning and get the job done by eod. I called to "make an appointment" several days in advance, then found out they were fully booked that day. I was told I can come back in three days but cannot guarantee it can be taken care of at that time. Then I realize they actually do not have an appointment system. So do not hesitate to go there for car service if you drop it off and time is not an issue. l still like these guys. It would be great if they can improve their appointment system. read more

We had an awesome experience here! We had taken our car to another shop first and was told that we needed new spark plugs/wires/etc, which would cost us about $650. We wanted a second opinion and found Buddah's through yelp. SO glad we did, it turns out that the first shop's diagnosis was wrong and we would have just thrown our money away. We were treated like actual people (which was a nice change of pace for a car repair shop) and were given very honest advice about what to do with our car. Not only that, but we weren't even charged for the diagnoses that they gave, despite the fact that we decided to not to go ahead with fixing the issue (the car wasn't worth the amount it would take to fix). I'm so happy that we found Buddha's Garage. I can now say that I have a place that I will always take any of my vehicles! read more

Little Advice: Waiting room is a little small (3 seats). It's best to drop off your vehicle and come back later. If you have to wait you may want to bring something to read or keep busy with. Call ahead and schedule an appointment. They stay busy. Great place to get brakes done if you're tired of the overpriced franchises that have ton of bad reviews on BBB. Some of you know who I'm talking about. Oh, and just because you hear squeaking when your pushing the brake that does not mean metal on metal (more cost), it could be the indicator that's warning you to have your brakes checked/replaced before you get to the metal on metal stage. Dave is an amazing guy. He is very honest, and will thoroughly explain the root of the problem without trying to sell you any unnecessary repairs. I had waited on dealing with the cat converter issue in my car because I knew it was going to be expensive. I called him up and he quoted $300 under the Honda dealership. Done! When I got there, he told me that both of the converters in my car were showing up in the diagnostic codes, and I wouldn't pass inspection without replacing both (!) After hesitating, and wondering if I should just sell my car, I decided to go through with it because everything else seemed in pretty good shape. He told me he'd give me a discount, and talked his suppliers into getting a better price on the parts. He also stayed after close for 1hr 45min to make sure I'd get my car back that same day because I didn't have any other transportation. I haven't gotten service like that anywhere else! On a side note, I had my 2 1/2 yr old in tow, fully packed with entertainment and snacks to stay the whole day. His wife and kiddo were hanging around the shop when we got there in the morning. She offered to drive us to Whole Foods, and then the park later that afternoon! I couldn't believe just how nice his whole family was. At the end of the day, my pain in the ass car decided to throw one more code during the test drive, and it was for the O2 sensor on the converter. He told me if I brought it back he would only charge the price of the part. Home of the good "car"-ma indeed! I'd recommend this shop to anyone. read more

I went to Buddha's after finding them on Yelp. My 2005 pickup truck that was given to me by my dad was making some weird noises underneath. I dropped the truck off first thing in the morning and around noon I got a call. It was several months ago so I can't remember the gentleman's name, but he explained to me that the problems with my truck were severe and would cost about $2000 to fix (labor included). He said that if it was his truck he would not fix it and would just get a new vehicle, given the truck's age. Since my truck model was discontinued I wasn't surprised since, well, when they stop making a model, it must be for a reason. I really appreciated the honesty, and that the estimate was FREE. I also got a sheet explaining the different repairs in mechanic Speak (which was explained to me so I understood) with the cost broken down. I got a brand new car now so I will likely use the dealership for services, but I'm recommending Buddha's to friends when they mention car problems. read more

I've been lucky enough to find an excellent mechanic every time I moved. Buddha's Garage is the one in Austin. I moved halfway across the nation here sight unseen, Yelp steered me to David's shop, Buddha's Garage. I drove up and talked to him while he fished shattered remnants out of a drive shaft. We talked a little about cars, about the difficulty of finding a mechanic and why he started his business. Let me share why I decided to go with him (besides the reviews): As I understand it, David was a competent self-starter working at a garage... where he had to overcharge people for work he was rushed to cut corners on to make money for someone else. So he took the plunge and started his own garage... one where he is free to hire only passionate mechanics, to do the job right, to charge for the job done on the car instead of the job done on the customer... and in general not just to be "a mechanic," but to be YOUR mechanic. Yeah, David looks like a little rough, but think about it... I wouldn't want my doctor to look like a mechanic, why would I want my mechanic to look like a doctor? read more

Honest, correct diagnosis and fair. Took my 2009 Mazda5 to have them determine cause of wobbling when driving. Mazda5 is notorious for wearing out sway bar bushings, tie rod ends, and lower control arm bushings. I told them I fully expected it to need at least one of those. After that was done, I'd figure on replacing the tires. I get the call: "Your suspension checks out fine. You need to replace your tires; they are down to the wear bars." Oh, and no charge. Seriously? They had to have my car on the lift- they should charge for at least 30 minutes. Nope. Not how they do things. Anyway, got the new tires, and all is smooth again. Very honest mechanics - I brought in my car for maintenance (just hit 90k miles) and figured it'd was timing belt and brake replacement time. Will and the crew reassured me that everything was fine, explained a brake issue I had (didn't impact safety or effectiveness at all) and did not recommend any unnecessary work. Dave just happened to be at the shop on a Saturday (the garage was not technically open) and he helped me out by bolting my car together until I could get to Houston for important doctor appointments and when I got to Houston I was able to get it fixed by my insurance adjuster.
