I picked up an appointment card, and Lady Jin said they could fix something that had come loose if I just dropped off the car for the next day (they were full up on appointments that particular day). They have a small spot to park your car and there is a slot on the left side of the right bay door where you can drop off your key for the next day. Lady Jin even encouraged me to text her with any details, and she and her husband texted back in a timely fashion. Mine was a minor job, so she only charged $20 for the part, insisting she didn't mind doing such a small, quick task for free. I remember one time going to (brother) Jin to have him certify a paper confirming that I had fixed my broken tail light and when I asked how much I owed him, he waved me off like it was a silly notion. Lady Jin said they are proud to serve the local community and want to be an affordable option. I might start making this my go-to place for regular work. She said they do most jobs (oil change, brakes, engine issues, tire rotation), though they don't do wheel alignments. Specifically, I had to change my license plate and the screws were rusted and stripped. The owner/manager told me I could bring down the car and he'd do it for $20. Unfortunately, American Foreign Car Service is not open on weekends so I called around a bit to see if I could get it done faster. Most places I called wouldn't even do it for me, and then I got a quote from yourmechanic for $80. Um. Okay. I took it in on a Monday and I stood close by while someone worked on it. The entire time I was kept in the loop about what was going on [steps taken to try to get the darn things out.] Probably took him about 20 minutes to get it out. He kind of took a shortcut and drilled one new hole (a little above the one screw he couldn't get out) and put in one new screw. My license plate is a tad bit askew now, but I kind of don't care and it was done quickly and pretty cheap, so I'm basically alright with it. Now I have the right plates. Woop. That warmth is matched by extraordinary service. When my niece's car would not start several blocks away and she hoped to avoid paying for a tow, Johnny walked over to examine it. When a friend was stranded in Takoma and needed to leave town, he helped get her car running in time. I have also brought prospective car purchases to him for honest pre-purchase inspections. Johnny stepped back from the business several years ago to spend more time with his newborn, but when he heard that customers were dissatisfied with the way it was being managed, he came out of semi-retirement. His name, standards, and reputation in the community mattered too much to him to let the business decline.
