Love this place. I have been for both breakfast and dinner - the food is solid, and there's a diversity on the menu from salads to burgers and everything in between. The value of Bucks comes not necessarily from the diversity of the menu, but rather from the high-quality with which they prepare everything. When I ate here a couple weeks ago, the service was prompt and responsive-- they were able to move us indoors when we realized how cold it was going to be outside. Not that the deck is undesirable - it's a great place to watch the denizens of Woodside go by as they run their little errands. Overall, this Silicon Valley institution is a good bet whenever you're looking for a solid meal. Just watch out for the parking end. It can get a bit crowded sometimes. read more

Since people will read this because they are thinking of eating, rather than visiting an iconic Silicon Valley hotspot/antique museum, I have to rate two stars (rounded up from 1.9) because the food is definitely lacking. I started with Buck's Onion Soup - it was sloppily presented, with a good few ounces of a soup puddle in the saucer dish and cheese dollops on the plate. I know any good French Onion Soup has gruyere dripping down the side, but my lord, it needs to be done tastefully. The sourdough crouton was small and already disintegrated and the cheese in the bowl only covered about 1/3 of the surface. I think they should be using a smaller bowl size - it would look much better, or they need to add more cheese on the top (not to the side or forgotten on the plate). The actual broth was okay, not anything special. I also ordered the 'savagely popular' Buck's soft tacos. They are big and filled with LOTS of meat. Unfortunately, the meat (both chicken and beef) was really dry - so much that no amount of sour cream, guacamole and salsa could save it. Disappointing, because the homemade sweet corn tortillas were really good - I could have eating just those alone. I also wanted to order their blended juice of the day (orange juice-strawberry), as advertised on their 'Naked Lunch' menu. Unfortunately, they were out of it. At 11:00am. Hmmm.... The reviews are spot on about the restaurant having so many decorations and displays to look at that would rival many a museum. I could seriously spend a whole day there looking at everything. Really cool looking bar too. But I'm also there for food - and the quality there was lacking. Well. My meal was not as expected. There's a sharpied masking tape label marinated with the beans in my huevos rancheros. It was disgusting to say the least. Reporting this, the server said there's nothing he can say or do. That it wasn't his fault (technically true!). They're also right that I refused to have a new dish from the kitchen, so they couldn't "fix this". No-- this is unsanitary. A reassuring shrug and "nothing I can say or do" is absolutely the worst way for empathy from the server. It's not the server's fault-- but if that's the response from the restaurant, that is absolutely disappointing. But i suppose they generously comped this dish, and didn't charge for 2 coffees. read more

I was here a long time ago. It was mother's day and my family made a reservation for 12:30 pm. We luckily reached at noon and forgot our time and went inside the restaurant when the staff at the reception told us we were early, we thought we would hang out until our turn came but they immediately said there's a place for you to be seated. We ordered our drinks, I ordered their cactus margarita which was great in taste and went straight to order food, fish tacos, burger, pancakes and French toast with granola. The server was great, wished me and then took our drink order first and the food came after that, it was perfect with timing and helpful with everything. I really enjoy the vibe at this place, the food is generally tasty as I have never come across anything bad. It has a lot of history and so we always feel good to come here. I remember one time I came near here for hiking and then dining here. So if you haven't then definitely worth trying out. read more

Came for a burger and outdoor seating with my dogs. Took a while to get their attention, then to get a menu, then to get food, then to pay. Food was fine, atmosphere ok (did not enjoy the two women next to me going through some kind of empowerment counseling session). Average age about 80, so left feeling full and youthful. Last visit 8/3/24...Had a great Double Smash Cheeseburger. I'd definitely have this again. The other dish we had was the Crispy Chicken Salad. The salad itself, and dressing, was really quite delicious. The chicken was indeed crispy...but it was super dry and tough. It actually required real effort to cut through it...and it was a tough bite. I suspect, and hope, that this is not the usual case with that dish. I had breakfast at Buck's today and it was a very pleasant experience. The host and server were pleasant and professional. I had the Avocado Toast with a poached egg and a side of Impossible Sausage. The presentation was very attractive and the flavor very good. I love crusty bread so next time I will ask for a steak knife to cut it! Nice thick slice. The Impossible Sausage was good though not as spicy as the Beyond Breakfast sausage I've had and enjoyed. The coffee was hot and flavorful and they followed up on refills. read more

I am not sure what happened to this place. The huge menu shrunk to few items. The food it's just ok this time. My fish was the bucks eggs - potatoes were almost burn, toast but no jams anymore. The coffee - I order a latte and it was drip coffee with a splash of milk. I get the price increase due to the economy but the food felt absolute than what we remember and we had come often before. Not a nice surprise when the check is delivered to see $4.00 in additional charges after asking for normal requests to a very simple burger that already costs $17.00. Buck's is very unique to dine in. Vegetarians: the Impossible burger is a must to try!! I also like the pretzel bun to make the burger unique, hence at Buck's! They give you onions on the side and I didn't have to ask. The fries were a good pairing with the burger though I prefer a bit more crisp to the French in fry. The pickle is definitely a pickle on the side to enjoy. So we splurged on pumpkin and the fudge pie!!! Please be aware that the fudge is caffeinated because I know my heart was beating after I enjoyed every bite of it. Oh so Delicious! read more

Very overpriced. I came here because they got a shoutout from All In Podcast but I regret that decision. They are very overpriced and the food isn't that yummy. It costs an extra $2 to add a tomato to a tuna melt. Root beer is $6 but its taste isn't good enough to be worth $6. My own meal was yummy but the rest of my party couldn't finish their meal because the taste was so bad. (None of us ordered the JCal onion rings). There are lots of indoor booths which is nice but the bathrooms are kinda dirty. Overall I regret coming here. read more

Awesome family style diner with surprisingly good food and a lot of patience for family's with small kids. I've had their smash burger maybe a half a dozen times and I would do it another half dozen easily. They have a lot of food options for small children as well and my kids eat there happily while they point at all the weird decorations. Had a great breakfast here this morning even in the midst of covid declining. We ate outside and the text when your table is ready was a super handy feature. All the tables are in the parking lot with a ton of umbrellas to offer adequate shade. The tables are socially distanced and staff was great. I have eaten here before covid multiple times and this is the first since the pandemic. While the menu is thinner, they still offer great food and service with a smile. read more

It was a beautiful night, so my party ended up sitting outside, but for those who have never been, the interior of the restaurant is practically a museum of knickknacks. The service quality here is questionable or at least not consisitent. we came here for a quick bite on Saturday afternoon around 3pm, which you can imgaine how unbusy they are. while i am waiting to be seated, (we are the only customer to be seated) the waitress made multiple eye contacts with us but choose to believe we are invisible, turn her face around and "proactively" serve other customers. after a few rounds of making eye contact and turn, i can hardly convence myself she is just too busy at the moment serving those 3 tables. recommdation: a bit more training, a quick nod after eye contact can easily prevent giving the preception of poor customer service, and it is free! read more

Yummmmm yummmm! Tried this restaurant after a hike in Woodside and enjoyed it a lot! The parking is a bit of a pain since it's 1 hour and quite cramped due to the parking lot changes. The parking lot was changed to outdoor dining. We waiting in line for a bit, but the waiters were very friendly and tried to get us seating ahead of ordering. We ordered at the stand and then was able to get seated outside quickly. The food came sequentially (we had four separate orders). The food was great! We tried the breakfast sandwich. Incredible pizza place! Great atmosphere, comprehensive menu, and an arcade to keep the kiddos busy. What's not to like!?! I'm from Detroit originally and can testify that the Sicilian Pizza is about as close as you can get to Detroit style pizza in the Bay Area. They just put mozzarella sticks on the menu- they are about the size of a king crab leg. Definitely do not sleep on this place if you find yourself anywhere near Sonoma. read more

I ordered a crispy chicken salad, my bf ordered a clam chowder & shared a Mac & Cheese. ++ Crispy Chicken Salad: nothing to spectacular, basic salad but the chicken wasn't dried which is a plus ++ Clam Chowder: definitely not the top star but appreciate the vast amount of clam in the chowder. ++ Mac & Cheese: very creamy but lacking salt. It was very plain tasting. Probably catering to people who has dietary issue. Thankfully there were condiments on the side so we could adjust to our tastebuds. Been here twice. A terrible experience everytime when we try to get seated. Talk to hostess for a table 15 min later - hostess in scolding tone: "did you put your name down? You need to put your name down". What's the point of talking to the hostess when we arrive if she's not going to put your name down? Hostess: " there are 3 groups ahead of you" After "3+ groups have been seated, there are still groups in front of us. 3 empty tables available while there're "2 groups" ahead of you. Finally, we got seated at a small table that has been *empty for the past hour*. Wait 10 min to get a server. Wait another 30 min for food. They can afford to be arrogant because they get spillover business from the very popular restaurant next door, so they'll get a constant stream of business. There's no incentives to have any service standards. Hostess has to double up as server too. so the lack of labor probably doesn't help with attitudes. read more

Just had dinner here tonight. I've been here many times and had good food but tonight was a terrible experience for my entrée. I ordered the fillet mignon stroganoff with penne pasta. It tasted like a chuck roast cut I could not even cut it with a steak knife it was so tough. The menu lied about it being Filet Mignon. I asked if I could see the chef and the waitperson said the chef is not here tonight. Filet mignon is a very special expensive very tender cut of meat that you can cut with a fork. This was tough as nails. I think they should just call it meat stroganoff and be done with it and then you're not expecting the best cut of meat. The rest of the dinner was very good. My friend had the artichoke which was amazing and my other friend had the full plate of ribs. The waitress did offer to take it back for another choice but we didn't want to wait for another plate to come for me late and then I would be the last one eating so I just sucked it up and paid for it. It's a fun place to look at all the oddities on the wall and the nostalgia from Silicon Valley. But the food quality and presentation is sub-par.
