We had a delicious dinner here at the Firehouse Bistro. Started with the caesar salad and the carpaccio then segued to the entrees of filet mignon and the Italian seafood stew . The filet was very tender and the creamed spinach and the mashed potatoes were perfect. The seafood stew had very fresh fish in it and the sauce had a nice spicy kick to it. There wasn't a lot of seafood, but what was there was tasty. The only downside was the service which was just serviceable at best. The waiter seemed in a rush and so when he took our food order he was in a hurry to leave the table and we had to stop him as we wanted some wine...wasn't even going to ask. Had to ask for water refills throughout the night also. The waiter also never checked on us after the entrees were served ( like he did with the tables on either side of us) so I would have probably had a second glass of wine. He brought the dessert menu just placed them down. It felt like he and the busboy were just going through the motions....no personality even when we tried to joke a bit with him...no response. Would we go back? We spent with tip over $200 so unless the service improves I highly doubt it. read more

Tucked away in the Woodside foothills, Firehouse Bistro is a gem worth finding. The setting is cozy and quiet, perfect for a relaxed evening out. We had the special of the night -- seabass with risotto -- and it was excellent. The waiter paired it with a crisp Sauvignon Blanc that had just the right balance, with light notes of mango and pear that complemented the meal perfectly. Prices are a bit higher than our usual date-night spots, but honestly, it's well worth it for the quality and experience. Our server touted the Italian seafood stew so we had high expectations - unfortunately not met: thin stock, no scallops, served barely warm (had to send back for reheating). Had dinner there last night for Valentine's Day. Was not able to order from the menu as there was a set menu for the dinner last night which was never disclosed upon making reservations. Ridiculously pricey for 2 from this set menu. Should have just got up and left but we stayed. Selections weren't all that great. Had prime rib and it was not that great. Annoying loud group from the people at the table nearest the entry door dampened the ambiance. No one from the staff even bothered to ask them to lower their voices. Worst of all a cup of coffee was not even available after dinner. There are better less expensive restaurants in the area. Never going back to this place. Just a total disappointment. read more

I took my girlfriend here for Valentine's Day. We were happy to see a quaint intimate space that felt suited for the holiday. It's a shame the ambiance is wasted on a restaurant that serves something closer to sustenance than food and service that feels like an after thought. We sat down and looked at the prefixed menu for 20 minutes before I felt the need to raise my hand to ask a server to take our order. Afterwards we were presented with "soup". It was good but nothing a can of Campbells cream of mushroom can't get you. I had the sea bass which was well cooked but severely under seasoned. My girlfriend had the New York strip which seemed to be well cooked but the quality was worse than what you'd get from sizzler. You burn all the calories from the steak while chewing it. Kind of crazy, gave this place a strong review 7 years ago, but for whatever reason hadn't been back. We went last night and it was great. Despite only 1 person working the front (he was awesome), service was good and incredibly friendly. Decent cocktails, great apps (ahi and Brussels sprouts), good entrees (I got the burger, others were more adventurous) and capped off with out of this world desserts. All in all a solid restaurant. The service is great and very attentive and welcoming. The food however, was not perfect. We got toasted bread that was soaked, and I mean absolutely soaked in oil and garlic. That was unfortunate because it was just oily and no crunch. We had the Brussel sprouts and Ahi Tuna as appetizer which were amazing. I had the salmon as main and it was solid. Not overcooked. It was served on asparagus with two crispy arancini on the side. Christmas Eve dinner was DELICIOUS. Set Menu but we were fortunate that what we wanted was listed. Starter was our only issue... shrimp appetizer. My fiancé is highly allergic and there was no substitute for it. The bread was crazy good!! Salad was light and perfect with blue cheese and the pea soup was very good!! The main meal we went with was the filet mignon. Perfectly cooked to our request and our waitress was courteous and friendly. When I asked for a good wine to go with my filet she brought me a great Pinot to taste. Ended up ordering a glass. My fiancé enjoyed his Long Island ice tea and we both liked our canoli's. We chose this restaurant based on location (wanted to eat in Woodside and take a nice drive) and it looked romantic and private. It opened at 5:00 and we walked in around 5:20. Only 2 tables had diners and there were at least 7 open tables in the front of the restaurant and more in the back which we didn't see. Any way that's significant because the hostess asked if we had reservations, we said no and she responded Oh and asked if we could hold on. She walked over to the waiter and they talked for a minute. She walked back over to us and said "ok, we can seat you but can you be quick, like in and out?". At this point we should have just walked out at that point but we didn't. She started to walk us to a 2 person table and stopped and redirected to a table in a less prime spot. Whatever, we are here let's eat and just do this. The water was pleasant but after he took our order he never checked on how we were doing. Portions were way to small for the price. Three bites of mashed potatoes and two bites of vegetables. Food looked nice but was bland. I think in the end the best part was the gravy on my husbands plate. When the hostess asked if we wanted the dessert menu I almost laughed out loud and asked if that would keep us at the table too long I'd we ate dessert. This was our first visit to Firehouse Bistro since COVID began. What a wonderful dinner and our server, Cameron, was great - very attentive. The dining room is cozy and intimate. The chef sent out an "amuse-bouche" of grilled watermelon gazpacho - fantastic! There were three of us dining - one had the "special" lamb chops, another the Karobuta pork chop and I had the salmon - all of them were delicious! I just took my mom for her 82nd birthday to this sweet restaurant!! The food was excellent and our waiter was great! He obviously was paying attention as I had asked the table if anyone wanted brussel sprouts to start, and no one did, but when my steak arrived there were some brussel sprouts along with my yummy creamed spinach. He had added them as he heard I had wanted some! Very thoughtful!! He also caught that we were celebrating my moms bday and brought out DELICIOUS bread pudding with a candle on top. It's a charming old firehouse building(I think). There's even a nice little bar in back of the main room. Prices were similar to other nice restaurants but they give you an amazing amount of bread when you ask and you're not charged for it (unlike a nearby bakery restaurant!!) It was my first time visiting firehouse bistro and most definitely not my last! The food was delicious and elegantly created! I heard they have a new chef and brand new menu and I must say it was all perfect!! I ordered the lamb dish medium and that's exactly how I received it! I must say the lamb was the juiciest and most flavorful lamb I have ever tasted. It came with garbanzo beans in a green sauce that was to die for-seriously delicious and creamy! The portion was larger than expected for the price paid and the Pinot Noir I was recommended to pair with it was also perfect!! My friends ordered scallops, steak, and another fish and every dish looked and tasted unique and amazing! I was lucky enough to try a bite from all of my lovely friends' plates. The next time I return I will have a hard time choosing which of the delicious dishes to order! Also the 6 of us ordered quite a few appetizers! The cheesy bread and tomato chipotle-like-sauce was great! The raw oysters were fresh and tartar thinly sliced and not too salty! Last but NOT LEAST - the dessert! Banana with a sugar crust was light and sweet but the chocolate ganache was my favorite!! Next time I will be getting the ganache all for myself! Can't wait to go back again! Firstly our server was lovely. This was the only positive aspect of our dining experience. Everything tasted like it was frozen or out of a box. I spent $20 on a hamburger that looked like came out of the concessions at a high school basketball game. I had a side of polenta in desperate need of both seasoning and heat. My wife had the salmon which must have been cooked to an internal temperature of 350; dry as a desert. The risotto was the color of a yellow crayon and tasted, said my wife, "like Kraft mac and cheese." The was also an unrecognizable side of green mush which left an "off" taste in the mouth. For a bowl of soup and two entrees we paid $65. If you are fiscally responsible and/or one who appreciates fine culinary institutions and dining experiences, this place is not for you. This place underwhelmed me because the restaurant was noisy and it wasn't that busy. Definitely need to invest in some dampening materials to make the ambiance a bit more amenable. I order the rack of lamb with orzo pasta...very expensive for a very small serving of lamb and the orzo, was downright boring. No taste or texture to add to the lamb. Ok so lots of people carp about this place - "we don't like the tacky sign!" "It's the same menu as Village Pub but probably not as good". Whatever. If you're in Woodside and you want to eat good food, in a nice atmosphere with friendly service and no hassle, you should come here. It's the only place within striking distance of my house where I can get fresh oysters and a glass of bubbly - heck, I'd come just for that! But the mains are always great - I've even ordered foods I'd normally not eat, just to see how these people prepared it, and they were AMAZING. As in, bring-me-another-plate-I'm-going-to-eat-until-it-hurts amazing! The only thing I wish I could change is the seating - it's a little tight. Woodside Bakery has that fantastic back patio (but I rarely go there b/c their service is so terrible). Wish Firehouse Bistro could take over the Woodside Bakery when it closes (I hear they're losing their lease...). Anyway, I will keep coming back to Firehouse, for sure! read more
