My friend and I came here after abandoning the crappy meal we purchased from Alice's Restaurant ($32 for NOTHING). Buck's was a 180 degree change. I was SO HAPPY. The ambiance was good; the owner was checking in on people; we had several people check in on us for drinks; and the food was FABULOUS. Let's just talk about the fries. The fries. They were everything a French fry is supposed to be -- light, crispy, and fluffy inside with a light coating of salt. Mind you, I was hungry, but my friend said it best when she told my son that I INHALED them. I did. They were so good! And the crispy chicken sandwich was incredibly flavorful. It was crispy and crunchy without being greasy. The slaw and aioli added to the overall flavor. And the bun was so soft and still grilled. Despite my being incredibly hungry (and probably hangry), I was so satisfied when I was finished. And this has NOTHING to do with food, but I loved the owner's shirt which he had made. It was a beautiful California poppy shirt with ladybug buttons. That alone made me happy, but the young women who brought us our bill and talked to us was charming, sweet, interested, and truly interested in our experience. While I will NEVER willingly go to Alice's Restaurant again, I would go to Buck's every day of the week. I've been told to come back in the evening for pizza. :) I think I will because I was so happy there. They know people and food. read more

Well, it isn't what Buck's used to be. There used to be a wonderful variety of food and a decent wine list. Speaking of wine, who doesn't put the name of the vintner on the menu? The new Buck's. I went there with a friend with whom I have hung out at Buck's for years. We were hoping for Yakima Pie and a good glass of wine. This place is a must for great atmosphere, super fun to play eye spy. We came around noon on a Saturday and were immediately sat. Ordered the eggs Benedict and it was pretty good. Also had the calamari, if it's on a menu we always seem to try. We were surprised at how good it really was! I happen to be in the area and I was super hungry. I remember this place was on 85 and decided to stop by. They currently have a bunch of outside eating and indoors is also open. The girlfriend ordered a chicken sandwich that she really enjoyed and I ordered the crab stuffed artichoke and beat salad. I don't know what kind of sauce/aïoli is on that artichoke, but damn is it good! If there's one thing I love is a good beat salad. All the ingredients were there on this one, but there was a little too much salad for my taste. It would've been perfect with less salad, more arugula and more beets and pears. If you eat inside, you will be blown away by all the memorabilia and decor. There is a ton of history and just a bunch of stuff to look at! It's a fun little spot. Lets start with the host.... Not a skilled man at customer service. WIth in three minutes of being inside waiting for the rest of a oart to arrive, he was rude, and insistant that I "check in" with him for my reservation. I did not even make a reservation and had no idea the name it was under... This was of no accord to him.. I bought a drink and went out side to the many many empty tables and waited... not good enough for this "Gentleman" He followed me outside and decided to have at me some more. I told I had no respect and other shaming. I only was there five minutes and off to a start... not a good one at that.. If Iwas not meet others there I would have taken my money off and out the door to some place else. Not only that I got nothing but dare I say it Bitchy dirty looks from him the rest of the evening. Owner of this business...consult with your employee... if he did this to me there are other customer make that EX customers out there. Food was O.K. Crispy Chicken Salad. My parents have always loved this restaurant but when we ate there today I was really frustrated because they had really aggressive flies buzzing at our heads and landing on our food the entire meal. I felt like a cat batting at flies and it was incredibly gross and distracting. I ordered the "shrooms pizza" and it was fantastic. I've always enjoyed the fun decor. Had lunch outdoors. When ordering at the window, the woman taking orders was very helpful. I was interested in the Crispy Chicken Salad, but didn't want the breading. I was going to order a different salad but she offered to substitute grilled chicken for me. Perfect! Our orders didn't take very long. My salad was good sized, and especially liked that it wasn't drenched in dressing - just enough to keep it moist, and it allowed the other flavors to come thru. LOVED the combination of the crunchy almonds, the sweetness of the chopped dates, the tender leaves of lettuce, the creaminess of the goat cheese against the tangy dressing. The only item that didn't suit me were the cherry tomatoes - usually I love them, but they didn't work for me In this salad - easy enough to ignore them though! Spouse had the Mushroom Rueben Sandwich, which he devoured. I had a few of his fries, which were tasty and crisp. It took me a few times to "get" this place but now that I have, I love it. I love the kitschy decor, I love the retro salad with iceberg lettuce and other tasty things like garbanzo beans and the best garlicky dressing, and I love that this is my favorite burger almost anywhere. Sesame seed bun, add avocado and have a cup of chili too while you're at it. Sometimes I go in the other direction and get the artichoke stuffed with crab. A fun place for lunch after browsing at Emily Joubert, the upscale gift place a few steps away. read more

I love Bucks. I love to meet people there for breakfast before the work day starts. It's great. I love the feel of the place and the food is always good. If I had one criticism, it is that the servers always seem to be, at best, elsewhere. After much waving and signaling, nothing. It took me getting up and going over there to get the attention of someone who could take my card and let me pay my bill. That's fine when I'm really not on the clock at all, but you don't have to be that much in a hurry for this to get a bit annoying. It isn't much easier to get your coffee refilled. Still, I love Bucks and will keep going but, maybe if someone is listening, something could be done to improve server attentiveness a bit. :) read more

Over the years I have found Buck's Restaurant in Woodside to be a gem. The good food combined with the historic Silicon Valley knick-knacks on display make for a truly unique dining experience! The "Double Smash" burger is my favorite... and I have always had great service from the wait staff. Menú for breakfast was limited but enough to pick something out. Strong coffee, good looking shakes. Overall priced a little high but I guess it's California. Attentive waiter, interesting items displayed throughout the restaurant. I had the Ranchero Bowl with avocado and the $3 for avocado was not worth it. It was just ok. Little Buck plate was enough but the amount of potatoes served was not enough. Side order of potatoes for $6 was not worth the price but they were good and crunchy. You can see it from the side of the road. It's in a plaza with other shops with shared parking lot. Parking for weekend brunch is very difficult to find. Come here more for the the quirky diner vibes than the food. Food was ok. It came out hot and well cooked, however nothing stood out for me and it was very overpriced. Lots of flies and bugs when seated outdoors, constantly had to swat them away from my food and drinks. They do have picnic tables so great for large groups. read more

I recently went to Buck's for a Sunday lunch for the first time in years with my family. We all had a great meal with excellent service, great food, and fantastic outdoor seating which is dog friendly so our English Cream Golden was able to join us too, who the waitress brought water for . The entire experience was a notch better than what I remember pre Covid. I ordered the Benedict vs Florentine which was well cooked but particular kudos to the chef for the side of potatoes (which most places treat like an after thought). Practically a staple and a place of Silicon Valley lore! Outside dining is plentiful and even on a Wednesday afternoon for lunch, the parking lot was completely, totally, and thoroughly jam-packed. The downside is that service can be a little slow (but there's also a labor shortage) and parking is scarce. Other than that, great food! read more

One tip to start out with, is make sure that you are leaving enough time to find a parking space. The parking lot across the street is a members only parking lot with security guard. For the best thing to do is go into another parking lot or hit the back and wait for about 5 to 10 minutes for someone to leave. Another thing too is that the outdoor seating is super crowded and the indoor seating is plenty fine with lots of great booth seating with some great window views. The bloody Mary's are to die for! Here's a picture of a beautiful bloody Mary's that you can get this lovely establishment. I'm definitely gonna go back and I'm gonna have the eggs Benedict with a beautiful side salad and he's amazing looking crispy potatoes that go with it. I had a Ranchero Bowl and it was ok. The waiters and waitresses are working super hard and right now with limited supplies, you might not get everything you want. Came here for brunch a few months back but never got around to writing a review. We loved their revamped menu! We got the Eggs Benedict, Fish Tacos, Fried Chicken Sando, Mac n Cheese, and Brussels Sprouts. Everything came out quickly and the food was great! Not amazing, but definitely up there. The milkshakes here are really good too. There's also plenty of outdoor seating (with umbrellas too for shade) and the wait times usually aren't bad. Buck's is a "historical landmark" in Woodside famous for meetings that were had and their kitchy, unusual decor which is plastered all over their walls, ceilings, and tables. The food is on the expensive side (my filet mignon sandwich was $21) while being incredibly mediocre. I'm not really sure why anyone would pay this much for sub-par food except that there aren't many brunch options in the area and Woodside Bakery (next door) has 1+ hour waits. We ordered the Pumpkin Pancake with a side of bacon and the Devine's omelette. My pancake had the strong pumpkin flavor that I was aiming for. The omelette was not bad. For being in the boonies parking here is a bitch. Never once have I ever found a spot in the lot and always end up on the street. Ok, the negativity of the review is now out of the way and I can move on with my bad self and talk up Bucks. This is the only place where you can see airplanes hanging from the ceilings, chow down on some of the best eggs benedict and have a Michelle Pfeiffer sighting all at the same time. I learned about this place from a friend who used to be a waitress here. So my wife and I made the trip up the hill to check it out and we were not at all disappointed. The breakfast menu is massive and includes all your traditional favorites and plenty more. The ingredients are fresh and the coffee strong. Keep in mind that Bucks is also open for dinner and the menu looks fantastic and I will for sure be paying another visit soon. read more

I've been looking forward to try this place as it's a Silicon Valley legend and it boasts eccentric and eclectic decorations. The inner decor is indeed fun and I took a self-guided tour as I waited for the food, the kids are having fun playing scavenger hunt as well. Foodwise, it's traditional American fair, I tried the impossible burger for the first time, it's quite interesting. As I came on Saturday night, diners are mostly Woodside locals: family and senior citizens. It's not exactly the SV vibe I was expecting. It's a fun experience after all. read more
