Fries, brussels sprouts

An incredible venue with an expansive patio area. I visited on a Saturday evening for a friend's birthday, and it was the perfect location for a special meal. The highlight was definitely the outdoor seating and ambiance. It was busy, so there was a lovely chatter in the air. Since the evening was a bit chilly, the heat lamps definitely came in handy. The outdoor dining area would be perfect during a warm summer evening. The food was fine, albeit unremarkable. The pizza was a pretty penny and didn't blow me away. The garlic herb and parmigiano reggiano fries had great flavor and were golden brown. The roasted brussels sprouts came with a delicious, creamy sauce. I would definitely come back here for the amazing patio and incredible atmosphere.

A gem of a place! I cannot believe I have not been after working nearby all these years! Plenty of parking though I heard it gets very full at prime times. Lots of outdoor seating, but do advise coming at off peak times so you can easily get a table as well. Order off the QR code and you can either pay individually or order as a group. Heard the burgers are the best, so I went with the Patty Melt. It was very delicious and the side of fries were tasty as well. I actually preferred them over the garlic fries as the garlic fries were mid. The chips and salsas were good though wish the portion of chips were bigger. I also like how their cocktails are actually strong! A really great spot and will be back to try their pizza and other apps!

Had such a great experience at Alpine Inn! Loved the food and the overall ambience--super chill and perfect for hanging out. The best part? They even have a dog menu, which was such a fun and thoughtful touch The service was pretty quick, and even though the line outside looked long, it moved surprisingly fast so the wait wasn't bad at all. Food-wise, everything we tried was delicious--we had the chicken burger, fries, mac & cheese, and chicken wings, and all of it hit the spot. Definitely a place I'd come back to for good food, relaxed vibes, and a dog-friendly outing!

Got to try it recently, after a hike nearby. Even though had it bookmarked for a while . It gets pretty busy on weekends and parking is kind of not enough for the number of people that show up. So plan accordingly. I saw cars parked along alpine road as well, where the shoulder was broad enough. They have an open bar only area, and indoor bar + seating and an outdoor bar + seating area as well. The outdoor seating is obviously more popular and will have a wait time. The indoor seating or the bar only area , didn't seem to have waiting when I went. They have some interesting cocktails . Tried the passion fruit margherita , which was really nice . For food, tried the Brussels sprouts and Francesca pizza . Both tasted great. They also have some interesting side sauces. Tried the cilantro crema , which was really tasty and Zott's special sauce ( which was like a spicy mayo probably buffalo or chipotle mixed with mayo ). Will def visit again to try some of their other cocktails and food and just to enjoy the vibe.

This place had such great reviews and I had been driving past it while visiting my ailing father for weeks. But I was so disappointed when I took my mother specially here to this historic restaurant to get away from the stress of being a caregiver. Parking was confusing, especially for a handicapped person. Then getting to where we needed to be to get into the restaurant was also confusing. There was a stand out front and one hostess. We had to use our phone to register or something, while we waited to be called. Then around at the restaurant there was another hostess. We weren't allowed to go in the front door, which was exactly where we ended up after the circuitous trek around the building!! I was in a boot so it was really difficult to get around. Then, when we finally got seated we found dirt on the seats, like someone had been standing on them. We discovered that there were no servers to take our order, we had to order and pay via a phone app!! The only physical menu was a drinks menu at the table. Unbelievable. I know, I am old-school and this seems to be the wave of the future, but this is how mistakes happen. Which happened with our order, my mother's cheeseburger came without cheese even though we paid for it. Then when we finally get our food delivered it is in greasy disposable (hopefully compostable) trays with condiments in tubes, etc. We couldn't even open the mayo and had to have someone help us!! At least we got a pitcher of water, probably because there are no servers to refill people's glasses!! The "server" was just sitting at the bar, no one came by our table to check on us. Loud music. On top of that, the burgers weren't even very good. The fries were so bad I couldn't even finish them. Then, you have to pay on your phone, which was frustrating as well. How do you know who to tip, there were two hostesses, the guy who delivered the food to the table, the gal who had to open our mayo, and of course the folks who cooked the food. All together it was such a negative experience that I still get stressed thinking about it. It has taken this long to get the review up because I found the pics I took on my phone while I was clearing it off and got stressed all over again and HAD to leave a 1-star review for you guys. Sorry.

We arrived at noon as a planned stop from our hike and lucky we were on foot! There were lines of cars everywhere, going into the parking lot, getting out of the parking lot, waiting at the intersection, at all directions! And mind you, the parking lot is not small at all! Alpine Inn itself is now connected to a bigger part called the beer garden. There were lots of people lingering outside. Don't mind them, you need to find the host right outside of the pub and get your name on the list. If you'd like outdoor seating, you can try the beer garden seating. We like the quietness inside the pub, so we opted for that and it was even better with no wait. As we walked from the beer garden to the pub, we passed an open kitchen space where chefs are rolling pizza doughs by hand and a hot and burning pizza oven was next by. They have plenty of menus, the drinking menu, the regular food menu, and the brunch menu. I like that you can scan the QR code to order and pay by your own or as a group. There are plenty of items to choose from and the prices are reasonable consider they are in the middle of nowhere. We ordered burgers (they have a secret sauce that piqued our interest), onion soup, pizza and smoke salmon bagel brunch. All things tasted good. The pizzas were particularly raved about, especially the ones with bacons. The secret sauce in the burgers tasted like the In and Out sauce, but delicious nevertheless. You can also get fresh pitcher of beer for a group. We did that and it was delicious and a great relief for a hot day after hiking. The soft serve and upside down apple cake is also not bad. Food came quickly but otherwise everything is self serve including getting condiments. They don't have plastic utensils for take away orders though. The inn itself has some historical significance and it was printed on a plaque about the story at the entrance. This is as good as it gets when you hike nearby.

Peak American food. If I had to go to a casual but a staple American brunch -. And I'm talking the CLASSICS, no fusion whatsoever, I would come here! With friendly staff, a super laidback vibe, and generous portion sizes for the $$, you'll definitely find what you you're craving for. Def get their garlic and Parmesan fries! The soft serve def serve 2-3 people I barely finished !

We visited on a Sunday evening and loved the outdoor, beer-garden vibe. They have an extensive wine list, too. There's also a bar area and a cute little table shop with restaurant merch. Parking looked intimidating at first, but the parking attendants were awesome, super organized and directed us right to an open spot. Ordering was all done via QR code, which is something to keep in mind if you don't have a smartphone. I had a mango margarita slushy and a pepperoni pizza, while my boyfriend had a beer and the Wagyu cheeseburger. That pepperoni pizza was impressive. The burrata was amazing, and it's easily one of the best pizzas I've had in ages. I'd definitely go back just for the pizza!

Burrata with meatballs- my dish which I enjoyed!

This place has been on my list for awhile, so was happy to meet up with friends for lunch the other day! Pros- cool spot with a nice outdoor seating area- we were able to enjoy the creek and it's dog friendly to boot! Food, everyone (3 in total) we all enjoyed our entrees very much. There's a huge selection of food and drinks too, so we're planning to come back! There is a huge parking lot, but this place is popular, so I'd suggest getting there early! Cons- long lines, even before they opened! When you order food, the QR code asks if you want forks and knives... those came well after our food was sent to the table (weird timing!)

I love this place! Really nice vibe with the outdoor seating. I thought the Mac and cheese was great!!! I also thought the steak frites were great but a bittttt salty but not a dealbreaker. The ordering system was a bit confusing but.... All good twinnn

Wow! The mac and cheese is still an absolute 10 out of 10. The steak frites is for sure a great deal for 15 dollars but not really a real steak and its a little on the salty side. The tacos are another great option! The seating and ambiance is great!!!! Service is always quick and wonderful. Just the best place to chill and have an afternoon snack!

French Onion soup with fries

This place has such good vibes. Tucked in outskirts of Palo Alto, they have a huge beer garden and a smaller inside bar/restaurant. We went on a Sunday evening and it was super crowded but we got seated right away in the beer garden. You feel like you're dinning in the woods. There's a good list of beer options. Cocktails seemed fun too. But what set this place apart was its service. Food came fast even before our beer and servers check on you regularly. Head chef Donny even made special substitutions for us upon request and unfortunately when they dint go right, he waived off the bill for us. That showed this place takes customer service experience seriously. The food was good too. Besio pizza was good but you gotta love hot honey otherwise don't go for it. The Mac and cheese was the best. The falafel wrap was flavorful and I would get it again. The French onion soup was very sour so we left it as is. The calibrean sausage pasta was decent and lastly the garlic cheese flatbread came fresh and warm, so it hit the spot.

Ask the Community - Alpine Inn

Is it dog friendly?

Yes -- Pranzi is dog‑friendly! 🐶

Is the patio covered when it rains?

They have a small portion that is covered where the TVs are. The other tables just have sun umbrellas.

The chocolate cake was to die for. Any chance we could order the whole cake for the holidays?

What happened to the Brutus salad?

it's still there! just changed the name

Are there outdoor drinking games such as cornhole?

No. And because they are so popular for food and drink, there is a time limit on tables.

I understand they don't take reservations. About how long is the wait on Sunday evenings for dinner?

On a recent Saturday night, we were told 1.5 hours for a table for four, but our table was ready in about 45 minutes. There's also a bar area where you can get a drink while you wait.

Do you take large parties? Maybe 30-50 people?

Nope. They do not take reservations of any size; first-come, first serve. They only seat groups of eight or less

Do they play music here?

They play tunes over their sound system (no live music) that helps to drown out the noise from people around you. Mostly 80's rock or modern country tunes.

How is it outdoors if it rains? Considering there is no indoor option during Covid, and it being rainy season, would be good to know what to expect...

there is little to no coverage from rain

Are dogs allowed in patio/biergarten?

Yep :) lots of dogs there when I was there last.

Do they allow dogs in the beer garden?

Yes in the beer garden section out back on leash. No dogs in the actual restaurant.

Are dogs allowed in outdoor area?

I believe they are allowed if on a leash.

Do they only serve beer?

They have a full bar

Do you remember when it was called Rosottis?

absolutely!! this place generates many fond memories for me growing up in Portola Valley. from the iconic zots to tots run as well as the many AYSO soccer games i played on the field adjacent to the restaurant- Rossotti's is an iconic landmark. i… Read more

I love that each location has its own signature pie, which makes it feel unique instead of just another chain experience! The apricot pizza at this location ONLY completely surprised me! It had that perfect balance of sweet and savory, and the cheese tied everything together so well. It did not feel gimmicky at all and bite felt intentional and balanced. I also tried the Little Italy Detroit style and DET Motorhead style slices. The Detroit crust is thick and fluffy with crispy, caramelized edges and a cheesy center that does not feel overly heavy. The bread to cheese ratio is honestly just right. The DET Motorhead with the sauce layered on top was rich and satisfying without being overwhelming. The Italian sausage was juicy with a slight sweetness and a little spice that added great flavor! Beyond the food, the employees were so nice and attentive. They were patient, helpful with recommendations, and made the whole experience feel welcoming and comfortable.
