It's a cool spot to check out for the ambiance, but the high drink prices keep it at a flat three stars for me.

The cocktail list was more extensive and sophisticated than I expected. And while there wasn't live music at the time, there's clearly a stage for music, which I'm sure is fun. Definitely worth a visit when you need a refreshing beverage.

I completely understand that restaurants get slammed and wait times can be unpredictable. What was frustrating wasn't the wait itself - it was the lack of honest communication. If it was going to be a 1.5-2 hour wait, just tell us upfront so we can make an informed decision about our evening. Honestly, the host seemed to have forgotten about us as she seemed surprised and scrolled way down the list to find our name even though we were "top of the list". After waiting over 1.5 hours with no end in sight and getting increasingly hungry, we had to leave and grab food elsewhere. With three hosts working, I would have expected better expectation management than what we experienced tonight. I hope this was just an off night, but we left disappointed and hungry.

I chose the Longhorn (tri tip) sandwich and fries and a Lillikoi Mai Tai, and the spouse chose the Pastrami Sandwich and a beer called Dank. They do not do table service so after ordering we grabbed a seat. This is a pretty large open space with an outdoor patio, several roll up doors and misters at the outside. Shortly after sitting down a server came over with our meals. I started with a french fry, and I have to say these are the best french fries I have ever had, in my life time. I don't know if its the way they cut the fries, the way they are seasoned, what they are fried in or all of the above, but they were delicious! Our sandwiches were outstanding! Both were incredibly flavorful and filling, and even after I was full I continued eating because everything tasted SO GOOD. The drinks were excellent too, so good that we ordered a second round. The young man at the counter also made my mai tai and did an excellent job. About halfway into our meal other guests started to arrive and by the time we left there were at least 4-5 parties of guests in the restaurant. I will absolutely return, and highly recommend Burning Barrel. I was also pleased to see that they have a Rancho Cordova location, which is a little closer to my home in the Valley. Thank you Burning Barrel for the excellent food, drinks and customer service! You made our great day even better!

And as for prices, I found them pretty darn reasonable, especially given this is Tahoe, we're talking about. So yeah, all said, I have been fairly impressed with Gaviota. When we came back, there were several more people which was nice but it was insanely quiet. It's disappointing that music only plays if people pay to play music on the TouchTunes juke box. I played about 15 songs- I was also working on a challenge for more gems so it worked out for everyone. I am not going to deduct a star for it, but honestly, it would be nice if TouchTunes played more music during the downtime of patrons playing or the bar played songs. It's not a bar without music. On recent Jeepers Jamboree trip, we ended up at the Buckeye as the restaurants were over-full in Georgetown with an hour plus wait. I hadn't told our group about the low star Buckeye Yelp rating and was a little nervous of the food/service but we were hungry. We got there late, around 8:30pm and they said they'd still serve us, a party of 6. And while some meat cuts weren't available due to it being the end of the day, we all found meals and sides that worked for us. The service was great, very attentive as glasses were kept full and bread baskets refilled. Most of us had some sort of steak dinner, ordered medium rare. And SURPRISE, our steaks were medium rare! All of us truly enjoyed our dinner as it cooked as we wanted it, there was plenty of food and we all left fat and happy. It may not be a fancy looking restaurant inside or out, but the pricing is where it should be and the steaks were cooked perfectly! We would definitely recommend this restaurant and go back when we do Rubicon Trail again! Oh and I nearly forgot, the owner of the restaurant also provided the ICE CREAM at the Jeepers Jamboree - which was awesome with special sauce, tasting a lot like Kahlua :) read more

We Have always thought it was the best place of the county and LOVE their food, of course if you have a name like "Roberto" perhaps you would like Taco Bell better! The food here is real American food and you feel like a real upperclass woodsman when you dine! I don't even know anyones names there but I've been going there every couple of months for at least 13 years! I took my girlfriend to the Buckeye recently and the Five Star rating isn't high enough for us. We had the filet steak. Soup and salad are included. The filet is the best we have had and the vegtables were cooked perfectly. The 70 mile round trip was worth it and we will definately return. Having said that, I do agree with Roberto G. that they're dining area is dated and all the stuffed dolls and taxidermied animals are creepy and do not aid in digestion! Good food. We come here often for the tacos, and we love them. But a well run restaurant, it's not…read more We ordered beer and a wine, then hung out at the bar until someone comes to serve you. Then, since there is currently no beer list, try to figure out what is available under somewhat generic tap handles (4 were Fort George handles, but what exactly each was remained a bit of a mystery). For wine, the only white was a jug of cheap Gallo left out of the cooler so it was room temperature. It seems like it's in the verge of closing down, and I truly hope it's not. But upping its game would not be difficult, and that would be welcome.
