Buck Creek is near and dear to me. I grew up across the field in the neighboring county, so I have been able to proudly support this family owned and operated business for many years. I've been seeing some comments about rude service, and I have to say I can't speak to that. My family and I have always been treated with the utmost respect and hospitality when we visit. I would still highly encourage a visit. They offer a large variety of wines. During the summer, pretty much every Saturday, they host a concert and then in the Fall usually have a wine run on the local county roads. Nice parking lot and areas to sit inside or out to enjoy a glass or bottle. They also serve wine slushies which are perfect for a hot summer day. At times they can be a little too sweet for me so I do limit how often I splurge on them. But still nice to have as an option. Cheers!

I had such an amazing time at Buck Creek with my sister-in-law. They had a variety of cheese, crackers, and meats available to create your own charcuterie board. They also had bottles that were cold and ready to drink on site. The owner was so fun and easy to speak to. They made sure we had everything we need to enjoy our wine and snacks. Outside of their delicious wine that they offer. They also have wine wine slushy. It was $10 to do a Tasting, but we went ahead and purchased a bottle that we had tried from their visit to the Indianapolis home show. They have seating both indoors and outdoors. The outdoor seating outlook towards the vines. We decided to sit indoors. There's also a parking lot for easy access to the building. You can also order items online for carry out. We will be back!

We made a quick stop after seeing the billboard along 74 while driving through Indiana. It was a small family owned winery with quite a few bottles and varieties made in house. They do small batch barrels. If you want a tasting flight (very affordable at $10 for six) you have to stand at the bar. Very odd. We felt very hurried and didn't really get to savor the experience. The owner was there but frankly a little rude and acted like we were stupid and he was the "expert"...as we do actually know a lot about wine this was insulting and I got the feeling if my husband had been with us it would have been different... We left without buying anything and a bad taste in our mouths from the rude service and hurried experience. I wouldn't recommend.

Great tasting experience at Buck Creek Winery. I'm a Hoosier now living in Sonoma, California, and I work part time in the wine industry and I am a former wine writer for various Northern California and nation wine publications. Suffice to say, growing up in Indiana I despised the sweet wines we are known for making and I was a bit nervous about what I'd expect - especially given that the label looks like something you'd find at a hunting cabin wall versus a hip winery and they make a lot of fruit wine. But, we aren't in California anymore Dorothy. I came into this tasting with an open mind and a goal to only taste wines using Indiana grown grapes (no fruit wine or wine using imported grapes from CA, OR, WA, etc). Our tasting associate was down to earth, informative and friendly. He answered all my geeky questions. I was very pleased with his knowledge about the wines and winemakng process, as past experiences with Indiana wine tastings have often been less than informative. I felt very overwhelmed looking at the two page wine list - 37 wines! I selected six (it's $10 for 6 tastings) and I chose estate and Indiana grown wines and one cider: -William Loyd Reserve (red blend) -Seyval Blanc (white semi-dry) -Forget Me Not (Traminette) -Grady's Hard Cider (heirloom apples from a few blocks away) -Pink Ribbon Rose -Autumn Blush (Catawba) I was tasted the William Lloyd first, which was very confusing, as I would generally taste a guest on a dry white wine first, but, whatever. It was the only wine I chose on the official "dry" list, so that's what my first wine was. Overall, I enjoyed the William Loyd, Forget Me Not and the Hard Cider. Those are the three I left with. The Seyval Blanc was really interesting (acidic with a strange bite to it like a Granny Smith apple) and I look forward to trying more of those at other wineries. The Pink Ribbon Rose was bearable and the Autumn Blush smelled like it was corked upon opening and pouring, but, I was told that was "just how it always smelled." I could not get past the scent of that wine when I tasted it. The rose-orange tinted wine is their most popular, which I cannot comprehend. The wines I took home are dry. The red reminded me of a slightly tannic, but comforting and warm full-bodied Merlot or Syrah-based red blend I'd find back home. A good easy drinking, week night red. The Traminette is Indiana's state grape and this was my first taste of it since I left the state. I really enjoyed it. Its parent grape is Gewürz and it's got delicate floral and fruity notes, but nothing over the top. Really nice wine. The cider was semi-dry and just plain tasty. I noticed glasses of wine were being served in plastic cups, so I opted out of that. They were also selling wine slushies to go in big stryofoam containers, which was hilarious and very Hoosier. Overall, I was pleased to find some wines I enjoyed and look forward to returning to the future to try Buck Creek's other wines. Cheers.

The vines are prettier in the summer but are surrounded by trees which were beautiful in fall.

We stopped at Buck Creek returning from some shopping in Bloomington. The staff was friendly and welcoming. My friend and I were able to get a small booth to do some wine tasting-the counter isn't open for this yet. We were provided paper menus that described the wines well and a paper to write in our selections. I liked the efficiency and it's easy to see what you're drinking but for those new to wine tastings, an explanation or caution to write in selections from dry to sweet, as the menu listed them, is a must. It would be easy to start writing and realize you want a drier wine for that 6th pick. They got busy during our tastings with a couple of large groups coming in. The staff did a good job keeping up and were race walking through the place in an effort to ensure everyone was taken care of. Tastings are 6 for $8; you will have no problem finding 6 with the wide selection offered. You will also have no problem choosing that glass to enjoy or bottle(s) to take home. We didn't LOVE all of our picks but liked most of them. We were also offered a free taste of the warmed spiced apple wine which was nice for a chilly afternoon.

Winery Stop #2: 6 Tastings for $10! The wait staff were friendly and they made great recommendations. This is family owned and operated and they have one various awards for their Stellar tastings. The venue is cute and quaint with about 5 high top tables, I saw some ladies reading books.. and a mom with her husband and baby enjoying themselves. I wish there was a bit of music playing .. other than that, Id absolutely return. I ended up purchasing a bottle of the Rhubarb wine

Great wine! Great service! The wine slushees are fun and tasty! Wine tasting is a must! 40 wines to choose from! You'll get 6 tastes for $8 so choose wisely. If you go with a partner you choose 6 and have them choose 6 and you'll knock 12 off the menu :). Happy tasting!

Great sweet & fruit wines. Not sure about the semi drys and dry have not worked up to them. :) The staff was very nice & helpful. We were in on Mothers Day so it was pretty busy. You get 5 sample of there wine. And they do discounts for you buy more than 3 bottles. We will be going back.

Confession: I'm not the biggest fan of Indiana wine. (This isn't actually a confession or a secret…read more I will gladly tell anyone who will listen that I don't like Indiana wine.) It's usually way too sweet for my palate, even the dry wine. But the wine I tasted at Urban Vines was really good! Could it be that I can no longer say that I don't like Indiana wine? If you like dry wine like I do, I suggest sticking to the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. Those were the red wines that I chose for my wine flight, plus the Pinot Gris from the white wine section. These were all delicious and dry enough for me. (If we're really quibbling, they were still slightly sweeter than I like, but I realize Indiana wine can only go so dry.) Mostly, though, Urban Vines is ideal for people who like sweeter wines. The people who see "cotton candy" on the wine bottle and think, "Yes, this is what I want. I want my wine to taste like liquified sugar." That said, I did taste a sample of the Wine-A-Rita, which is a sweet wine infused with agave and lime, and served on ice. Whoo! That's a nice little sippin' drink. I could see killing a couple of glasses of that on a hot Indiana summer evening. I should also mention: The pours that they give you for the wine flights are generous! More than generous, actually. I am no wine lightweight, and I could feel the sweet and bitter fruits flowing nicely throughout my bloodstream by the time I took my last sip. Luckily, Urban Vines has food to offset all of the wine. I came for a pizza flight, but they weren't offering them when I visited, so I got the margherita pizza instead, which came with torn pieces of basil, marinated and roasted tomatoes, and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar. It was very tasty! They also offer things like boards (veggie boards, breadstick boards, cheese boards, meat boards), plus salads and desserts. They also offer brunch on the weekends. This is a pleasant little place to hang out and enjoy wine and food. It's also family-friendly -- they have a small playground that's near the patio seating, so you can relax and also watch your kids play. Urban Vines is a nice place to unwind with some wine and food, and just enjoy the day.

This one, however, rocketed to the top of our list among Hoosier wineries whose products we have tried. Not only was the wine a treat, the experience of the visit was also memorable. The facility was very nice, from the impressive external landscaping to the lovely wine shop/tasting bar to the relaxing garden-patio-themed dining area. We visited with the intention of just doing a tasting but ended up having a light lunch along with that tasting. We were glad that we did as the charcuterie board that we ordered was terrific with olives, naan, hummus, chips, cucumbers and more. It was enough to be shareable. But the highlight was still the wine. We also shared the flight as we did not want to overdo it. We tried the Peach Sangrini, Peach Pie, Lemon Moscato, Raspberry Espresso and Sweet Red Lime. All were good but I'd have to say that the standouts to me were the Lemon Moscato, which was refreshing and tasty, and the Sweet Red Lime which delivered what the name implied with a citrusy, lightly sweet flavor. The prices were not bad as I thought it was a good value for what we received. I would be remiss if I did not also note that the service was top-notch. Our server was efficient, attentive and knowledgeable. The greeter was also pleasant and welcoming. It is likewise noteworthy that we had our 8-month-old granddaughter with us, and it was greatly appreciated that they offered a family-friendly experience that accommodated her as well. Our daughter and son-in-law live in Indy, so this place is just an hour or so away. Even the driest of the wines, the Cabernet Sauvignon, is very sweet. So, if you love sweet wines, this place is for you! Right now, they are only pouring a Cabernet, a red blend, a Riesling and a sweet Rose. The grapes are imported, but Woolley Yak has their own vineyard, and the intention is that they will soon start producing wine from their own grapes. You can get a flight of wine, or a glass of wine, or a mimosa, and then you can take your wine outside with you as you explore the grounds. There are picnic benches here and there. There's also a food truck that sells four different types of grilled cheese sandwiches and handheld charcuterie cups. I think food is only available Friday through Sunday, though. I visited with children (well, a teen and an almost tween), but they are a good hang and will play on a playground with the best of them, so we headed straight for the nature play space. The playground was designed to encourage kids to engage in unstructured play, so it has a lot of natural elements all around, like tree stumps, hay bales and logs. My kids are "co-op kids" for life (their early years were spent at a nature-based cooperative preschool), so they thrive with this type of playground. There's also a tire mound to climb, a balance beam to balance on, and a basketball shooting station made from a grain wagon. There's lots of space to run around, and a few trees to climb, too. The big draw of Woolly Yak is the yaks! There are also Babydoll Southdown sheep, Kunekune pigs and chickens that live on the ranch. You can just sit on a bench and watch these animals do their things in their living spaces. Or, if you want a more up-close experience, you can purchase a ticket to one of the animal experiences, like storytime with sheep or tea with lambs. You can also experience brushing the yaks and giving them treats. If you didn't want to do any of those experiences, though, you could just visit the ranch to see the animals for free! There is no admission to enter the ranch or to park. It's a nice place to visit to stroll around and see what you can see.
