On my quest to keep my business as local as possible, I came upon C&C during the pandemic. They were offering a Corona quarantine package of 12! assorted bottles of wine for $99. (They are still offering a similar special!) You had a choice of multiple reds, whites, roses and even a couple of sparkling choices. It was/is a great deal, and offers the opportunity to enjoy different brands and styles of wine I may not have tried otherwise. Ron, the owner is extremely knowledgeable and can provide you with great recommendations, should you need them! The store is well-organized and offers many different varieties from budget to high-end selections. They also offer a nice assortment of gourmet foods like crackers/cheese/sausage/cookies to accompany your wine choice. Most recently I emailed to see if they could make me a gift basket. Ron responded immediately and said they already had a basket made in my price range with two bottles of their best-selling red and white wine. This is a cute spot that I was fortunate enough to find thanks to Yelp. I needed to pick up items for one of the at-home events, and this was one of the locations. The staff is friendly and welcoming and seems very knowledgeable about all of the in-stock products. I love the focus on local items! Where do I even start. Located right off 62nd street by the Pet Supplies Plus sits this little gem. When I first walked in, I definitely thought it was going to be a store full of snobby and high-class (expensive) wine. I've never been more wrong. I went in when the owner was there and he immediately picked me out a wine based off what I likes. None of the wine on the floor is more than $20 a bottle. The average price is $8 -13/bottle which what I normally pay. He tests out all the wine himself (dream job) to ensure quality. The store also has a bunch of grocery store items that you would typically pair with wine, making it a one stop shop. I've gone in a couple times now and the staff is consistently helpful and knowledgable. This place is an under appreciated. I've never stopped in here because I'm not a wine drinker. However, my interest was piqued after my boyfriend surprised me with frittle and chocolate-covered caramels from Best Chocolate In Town. When I asked him where he got it from, he told me Cork & Cracker. I was curious: what else did Cork & Cracker have inside their shop other than wine and frittle? This seemed like a job for Allison F., self-appointed Yelp Investigative Reporter. I decided to go undercover, using the story line that I needed a frittle fixing (that just so happened to be 100% true). I had the intention of coming in quietly and slyly scoping out the shop, but my cover was blown within seconds of walking through the door (WOMP WOMP). I was greeted by one of the owners at the drop of a hat, and I could tell he was going to be sure that I would walk out a satisfied customer. As it turns out, I'm lousy at going under the radar, but I can happily report my findings. Here's what's inside Cork & Cracker for a non-wine drinker: -Newfangled Confections' frittle and spiced pecans -Endangered Species chocolate bars -Hoosier Mama Bloody Mary mix -Best Chocolate In Town truffles, chocolate-covered caramels, and more caramels -Unchilled bottles of beer - the bottles sit on what appears to be a tall bookcase, and the breweries include Stone, Founders, People's, 3 Floyds, and He'brew. -St. Elmo's cocktail sauce -Local Folks mustard -Smoking Goose Salumi -Tulip Tree cheeses (including beer cheese) -Ludwig Farmstead Creamery cheeses (Fun Fact: this is the creamery Fonz and Laura from Tulip Tree used to work at) In short, one can pick up all of the ingredients for a stellar meat and cheese board, pair it with beer, wine, or a bloody mary, and even include dessert. First, I love Byron, but I gotta disagree with his assessment of only 50 wine bottles at the 'Cracker ... They probably have about 120 bottles of wine per rack, and 10 or 12 racks, Cork and Crack definitely has over 1,000 bottles of wine on the floor alone. As for varities--I'm with you there, By. It's probably more like 250-300. Nonetheless, that's still not bad, especially when you throw their decent craft beer selection into the mix. Cork and Cracker just opened a new location on Michigan, but I visit the Broad Ripple location. One thing this location has that that one doesn't: manager Justin Goldstein. He explained the store's thrust: They try to carry some lesser-known wines on the wall next to their claim to fame, an entire floor of $15 or less wines, arranged from crisp, soft whites to big, bold reds. One of their lesser known wines is from the inventor of Cap'n Crunch cereal, according to Justin. On another wall, upscale box wines (yup, it's becoming the rage now--even in Europe) like Cuvee de Pena (88 points from Wine Spectator!) sit complacently. The food is interesting too. Cork and Cracker carries Graffiti Zoo, a line of interestingly flavored chocolates whose proceeds partially benefit the Conservation Endowment Fund of the American Zoo & Aquarium Association. Mosey over to the refrigerator case, and you'll find an array of pate--comically labeled "Contains no foie gras"--To a food lover, it's almost blasphemous to nominally support Chicago's now-defunct ban on fattened goose liver. But I digress. The Cork and Cracker is situated next to a couple of dog-oriented stores, so it's appropriate that they have one last luxurious impulse buy next to the cash register--gourmet treats for your dog, made by their own banker's daughter. read more

On a recent trip to visit family, they guided me to this gem of a wine shop. The owner was there and is very hands on. More lesser known and interesting wines but there are some usual suspects. Nice import selection as well as rose and serious blends. My husband and I LOVE this place! We just recently joined their wine of the month club, which is very affordable and so fun! We love getting to try new wines together. I appreciate that their wines are good value buys (affordable and very tasty!) and that the owners/employees take time to explain the wines to you. They do a weekly trio which includes three wines (usually there's a theme) for $30! Such a great deal, and we love supporting this local business. Outstanding! First of all, I have to praise the customer service. I walked in at 8:01 without realizing they closed at 8:00. I apologized, and was ready to leave when the woman at the register told me she'd be happy to stay open. I've had places that roll their eyes when I walk in 10 minutes before closing, so this was refreshing. I promised I would be quick, but I didn't realize how challenging it would be to pull myself away from this adult candy store! The woman explained that all wines located in the center of the store were under $15 and were arranged by style. Wines in racks on the perimeter were pricier. There is a discount for buying a case, so I was happy to find six bottles that looked yummy. This was not a difficult task, as I had a cart full of wine in about 4 minutes. Don't let this place intimidate you. Some people assume coming into a wine shop will be a bad experience unless you are a vino or have $50+ to drop on a bottle. Not the case! I really don't understand how a retail outlet can pay the rent by selling only wine. They don't offer free samples, only the advice of the manager. I have bought several reds from here and I have NEVER been disappointed. This must be his secret to success, quality at a good price. A boutique wine store with affordable options and a knowledgeable attendant - this is the place to go if you don't know a lot about wine or you want to find wines unavailable in traditional liquor or grocery stores. The wines are sectioned by flavor and price, making it easy to only look for what you like and can afford. There's a small craft beer section, mostly imports I hadn't heard of before. I'm not sure the beer holds up as well as wine so I wonder if they are able to rotate them out frequently. Indiana artisans like Frittle Candy and Fermenti Artisan align the shelves along with gourmet snacks and olives. Salami and duck confit from Goose the Market were enticing options for this meat eater. We were assisted by someone who knew their wines and offered a suggestion for a zinfandel I very much enjoyed. I was going to give it 4 stars...but when I was looking up it's address and website to add to the information...it said they have over 400 wines. If you have ever been here, I think you will share my chagrin, that they must be hiding about 350 wines, because I certainly don't feel like they have 400 bottles of wine in the store period, much less 400 different bottles of wine. Alright, now that I have that out of my system, the place is great. They have some great wines that are hard to find at great prices. It is certainly one of the most approachable lists of wine that I have seen, it's a great place for a novice wine enthusiast, if for no other reason than the staff is super helpful and know a ton about their products. They have a cool e-mail list that you can get on to hear about features, new wines and events in the store. My favorite neighborhood wine shop. They specialize in good wines for under $15. Or maybe it was $20, but either way it's good wine for good prices. They also have some higher end stuff along the walls if you're looking for something fancy as well as some local cheeses in the fridge up front. You'll often find the owner there, running the register and giving out wine recommendations. Even when Ron isn't there, all of the staff are friendly and knowledgeable about wine and can help you with whatever you're looking for. I don't go to the big stores to buy my wine anymore, because this place, although having less selection, always has great bottles at reasonable prices. Everything I buy there is great, even if I spend under $10, unlike the big boys which regularly stock overpriced crappy bottles. If you don't like a bottle, cork it, and they'll take it back, even if there is only a glass left (haven't had to do that yet, but corked bottles happen, you know). I don't care what their website says, they sell a wide selection of wines, and I know that their back room is absolutely packed with stuff thats not on the floor. Don't know anything about wine but wanted to bring some to a party I was going to. After reading yelp reviews I decided to give this place a try. Walked in and told the person working there that I wanted two nice bottles (a red and a white) for someone who is very knowledgeable about wine. He asked my price range and immediately helped me pick. They were a big hit at the party. This store continues to amaze me- a constant selection of changing wines and price points- most of the store features wines under $15- but you can also find a wall of wines up to $25 and another with wines that are $25 and up. The people who work here, do an amazing job of trying everything that comes into the store. Also they host events around town, and do a tasting every so often in the strip center where they are located. I am looking forward to following them more on facebook. They are more than happy to help you find something you'll love at a price point you're looking for, even if that price point is "as cheap as possible" like mine usually is. They have a great email newsletter that let's you know about all the awesome events they have (tastings, book clubs, educational events). We attended a wine tasting at Fire by the Monon on Friday night, sponsored by the local University of Wisconsin Alumni group [a.k.a. IndyBadgers] and hosted by Ashley of Cork and Cracker. What a good time was had by all. Ashley brought selections from Italy, including: Whites [2010 San Pietro Pinot Grigio and 2011 Donnafugata Lighea] and Reds [2009 Masi Modello, 2009 Cantina Zaccagnini Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, 2008 La Maia Lina Gertrude, and 2998 Passitivo Primitivo]. The selections were excellent, and Ashley's discussion of the wines, the regions, and the tastes/aromas were on point. We had a small group, but there were many who remarked very favorably about the store, the knowledge and helpfulness of the staff, and the selections and price points. My wife and I had went out for dinner and she found a wine she truly enjoyed. We called around and found that they had the wine in stock. They went over and above to accommodate me and held a couple of bottles aside so I could be assured of having them upon my arrival.
