Right on the corner of Madison and Main St is this nerdy, quaint little spot that has good beer, awesome decor, friendly staff, and the best trivia around every Thursday night. They do not have a full kitchen but they do have a different menu with options like pretzel bites with beer cheese, soup of the day, chips and queso, etc. If you are into outer space, Star Trek, or Star Wars, or are just a nerd at heart YOU WILL LOVE THIS PLACE! The Planetary has so much potential and is a nice spot to grab a beer and a snack. It is located in Greenwood on Madison Avenue and is easy to find with the cool neon lighting above the exterior door. You'll find a free parking lot across the street, corner of Main and Madison, with an entrance off of Madison. The sidewalk and step were cleared during our visit which I so appreciated. The steep step into the Brewery was a bit tricky though. I hope the new expansion will have a wheelchair-accessible entrance or at least a step that isn't as steep. We were greeted immediately as we entered and found a tall-top table in front of the bar. Additional seating is available upstairs. We weren't sure if they had servers or if we ordered at the bar. We waited for a couple of minutes then my husband walked up to the bar to order. Eight beers are currently on draft with a limited food menu. 5 oz flights with 4 or 6 beers are available. My husband ordered the Brack, a malty bock beer, with the tasty Pretzel Bites served with either mustard or pimento cheese. I had the Orange Creamsicle Beer with a bowl of Chicken Velvet Soup served with thin, toast points from Amelia's bread. The soup was creamy, loaded with pieces of chicken, and had a nice flavor. As I told the Manager, the bread was delicious, and a perfect accompaniment. Food is available Thursday - Saturday only. While chatting with the Manager, he told us Planetary was taking possession of the business space next door and enlarging their current footprint. They have hired a Chef with plans to expand the menu and the restaurant. I look forward to returning once the expansion is complete. read more

Super cool little brewery downtown Greenwood. Inside is pretty neat with a spiral staircase that leads to the upstairs. They have a nice bar that seats a dozen or so people and several table downstairs. We sat at the bar to sample a few of their beers. They offer a good mixture of beers including an IPA, porter, cream ale, hefeweizen , pale ale and a few other. Bartender was super nice and helpful. I ordered a 4 beer flight. The porter was my favorite. They beers were not the best I have ever had but they were not the worst. You could definitely find something you would enjoy. I don't think they have been around that long so hopefully they will continue to try new things and push out better beers. Just based on the logo and concept, Planetary Brewing had me curious from jump so we included it on our 'tour of breweries on the south side' road trip one afternoon. It's totally hard to find -- go through some apartment-type thing to an industrial area...then look at the *ends* of the buildings. Park across the street from the end of the building and enter the tap room on the left (brewing space on the right). The high points: - 3oz Fight $5 - 5oz Flight Test $9 - Try all beers offered on tap via flights for a super reasonable price. - Star Wars memorabilia and toys and goodness adorn the space. - They have a record player... not sure if it is for looks or for playing as it was quiet when we were in there aside from the sounds from the TV. - Today's favorite for me was definitely the Parallax Vanilla Porter on Nitro. - Individualized attention as we were the only ones in there for most of our visit. - Clean bathroom was a plus. Overall, I would give the beers an average of 3 stars -- given that I am not a hoppy beer person I cannot down grade them for theirs just because it is not my taste. The space is kooky, but the concept is cool...so 4 stars with a boost stemming from their oringinality seems about right. We will stop again if in the area to see what dark goodness they have on tap. read more

The tap room opened late in 2016 and looks great! There is a space theme that perks up the industrial look of this shotgun style building. Although there is no food sold in the taproom, there are some tasty options in the area that you can grab something on your way here. Free parking is available about a half block south of the taproom in the municipal lot. The beer options in the taproom had five Planetary brews available and three guest taps. The flight of six options has a great price of $10. I enjoyed all the brews in the flight. The Chemtrails Cream Ale (5.6% 16 IBU) was a nice starter to ease into the flight. The Strange Planet Java Mint Stout (5.8% 24 IBU) was full of chocolaty flavor. I am a big fan Belgian Tripels, so the Hovercraft (8% 34 IBU) was my favorite of the flight. The Vostok 6 Russian Imperial Stout (8.5% 64 IBU) was robust and had lots of flavor to temper the higher IBU. Although I am not a fan of IPA's, The InterPlanetary Ale is an English IPA (6.5% 60 IBU) so the hoppy flavor comes through without the smack in the face you can get from American hops. I also tried a guest selection from Burn 'em Brewing in Michigan City. Their 21 N9NE Citra/simcoe Session IPA was a tasty sour/bitter combo. Overall, the selections were very tasty and the atmosphere was pleasant and during the day, easy to carry on conversations. Note: The business will expand to include the building to the north, possibly adding a simple grill along with bringing over the small tanks from the original location. We were in town for a couple days and saw this cool brewery and we were excited to try it after we checked out the tap menu online! It's a cool vibe inside, real low key and relaxed. Stopped in here Sunday after Church and it a cute little place with a lot of character. Sci-fi theme so if you are a fan, you will love the decor. It's a small taproom with a bar and a few tables. They have a huge TV always playing a sci-fi movie (itwas Tron on Sunday :)). We were greeted immediately by the owner and ordered they larger size flight. They had 7 beers on tap and the larger flight got you a 5oz pour of each. You can also do a 3oz pour of each for $5, pretty amazing pricing. All the pints or snifters were $5.50 and growler prices ranged from $14-$19 I believe. The beer was very solid. The only one I didn't enjoy was the cream ale, sunking is hard to beat in the cream ale category in my opinion. The Nitro Vanilla Porter was my second least favorite, it was smooth but lacked any sort of taste at all to me. Now, the favorites...tough choice, the Imperial IPA was amazing, something you could drink all day but would put you on your butt at 9%. If I was forced to pick a favorite, that would be the one. But their Amber, Nut Brown, and Pale Ale were excellent as well. We will defintely be back! read more

Been to planetary a couple of times now. First time I stepped in this unassuming brewery, which is at the back of an industrial area, indiana jones and the temple of doom had just ended. The guy asked us if we had a preference , and we asked to watch the next indiana jones movie. I had the 5 oz flight, which is at a great price. They also have 3 oz flights which are a bit cheaper. Liked their cream ale and the nitro stout. They also let you fill a growler (32 or 64 oz),which is a great idea , especially on a slow sunday afternoon! Love the sci fi theme in here. First time here, couldn't have been better. First off, Sharknado was playing and it was a comical change compared to most bars with everyone to watching the hokey sci-fi film. The server got right to us and explained the 7 beer options. I had Solar, which was their oatmeal milk stout on nitro and my girlfriend had the InterPlanetary Ale, their English IPA. Both beers were great tasting, the stout had a nice light flavor compared to most stouts, which I enjoyed. The place, which is in a little industrial park, seems out of place. The outer space feel is awesome and very different compared to the vast majority of breweries around the city. What an adorable place. Not only was the beer good, the bartender was so helpful and the owner was willing to tell all the plans he had for the place. This is definitely one of my new discovered breweries that I love. The main place has a sic-fi feel to it. I love this and the family I married into does as well. When we were talking to the owner, he talked to us about the kitchen space they are adding, the family dining area, and the banquet area. And we are stoked about it. It really will be awesome. The open hours aren't great yet but as with any good business, it takes time to work up to being open all the time. The city of greenwood is currently doing a lot of road work but when that is finished, I really think this place will thrive again. I loved it and will definitely be back. read more

Wow! The beer is bananas! No seriously Apes#!t (Apeshit), their flagship beer, tastes like banana bread! So good! Went in to taste and buy a growler and lefted wowed by the beers and with a growler and glass (!!) bullet in tow. They have a small selection and beer selection changes weekly. They are tucked away in Greenwood but totally worth the drive. Spoke to Doug, one of the two owners, and told me they are planning on expanding the taproom into a tasting room towards the beginning of next year so totally plan on spending time there! Newest brewery in town just getting off the ground. They had a solid line up of a cream, dunkle, stout and pale. I enjoyed them all and walked out with a growler of the stout, new for $18+tax. Andy the brewer said their were 2 IPAs coming up. Looking forward to those. Check it out there's a killer mural in the entry by CBL Imagery. Fun spot that will only get better. Update to my original (way too short) review: This is a really great brewery doing some cool, interesting things with their beer. Do not let the location and size of the taproom dissuade you! It's rucked back in an industrial-looking complex and the taproom is fairly small compared to other breweries, but they're looking at putting in a patio and the beer is worth it. They have lots of great varieties of wheat beer, including the infamous ApeShit, which does have a little bit of a banana taste on the back end. If you go in, they will give you a sample flight and talk beer with you while you try each one - does it get much better than that? read more

So glad I found this little gem. I like that it is an ever changing lineup of beautiful blends. From the interplanetary ale, double IPA, brown, creme, I could keep going... Its a very small place (currently), as it has not been open incredibly long. While pints are not served currently, Doug is more than happy to give some samples to help the indecisive beer surveyor. I like that I don't ever know what I want to fill when I go here. Also, typically some keg from here can be found at shallos if you are in the mood to just destroy some pints of it in a public place. We were given 7 different fantastic beers to try and I don't remember the price but I remember my group being shocked at how inexpensive it was. I've only been once so I can't say much about the crowd. We showed up at 8pm and it was fairly busy with people hanging out, playing cards and enjoying Star Trek playing on the flat screen. The new taproom is here, and all the hard work that went into this location is readily apparent. While it is noticably still a work in progress, it's already much more spacious and comfortable than the previous location. It's also much easier to find, being just north of the intersection of Madison and Main, smack dab in the heart of downtown Greenwood. The large windows, looking out onto Madison, create a much more open atmosphere, sure to attract many new customers from curious passersby. And they'll be treated to an already established lineup of fine brews, featuring a wide variety ranging from the Chemtrails Cream Ale, Nitro Parallax Vanilla Porter, Strange Planet Java Mint Stout, Elstree Bourbon Barrel Old Ale, and Pumpkin Suit Spice Beer. There are even a couple of pale ales, as you'd expect, CEC-829 and Microcosm. There isn't a bad one in the bunch. As of now, there isn't food made on site, but they do have food trucks dropping by, like Johnson BBQ today. I can see this location being a big success, with the concerted effort to revitalize the downtown area by the city of Greenwood.
